my friends and I stopped by for sandwiches at limoncello after seeing all the rave about it online. there were so many options and we were also excited to see the deli was actually part of a larger italian grocery store and grabbed some italian sodas too! we were a bit disappointed by the sandwiches themselves- for $18, we felt that the proportions were a bit off. it still tasted great and ingredients were high quality, but there was a monstrous amount of meat and lettuce so it was hard to get any of the other flavors. the portions were huge though, which is a plus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]overall, the store was very cute, clean, and seemed like it stocked authentic italian ingredients.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] the service was pretty quick since we just ordered at the counter, and they are all very friendly.

The sandwich filling was tasty. Was a good blend of salty and spicy. I was given a choice and chose the Dutch bread but it was very stale. Other than that, it was a decent sandwich. The service was fast, considering there were about 6 people ahead of us. They had three people working efficiently.

My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!

3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.

Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.

I don't think my bread was toasted but I wish it was by default (or maybe my fault for not mentioning it). Overall quality of meats were really good and flavorful. I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.

Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space has small grocery section and a deli counter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.

Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.

There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the store is clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.

I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but Limoncello is more of a 3.5-star spot for me now. I used to love it, but lately it just hasn't been hitting the same. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or what, but it's no longer my go-to sandwich shop. I ordered my usual Cuban, and the balsamic vinegar and mustard were a bit overpowering. The portions are definitely generous (as they should be for a ~$20 sandwich), but it's disappointing that it doesn't come toasted.

Two thumbs! Companion has been wanting to take me out for a deli sandwich for quite some time. He has his list of spots in the city, Limoncello being one of them. We were able to finally go and I was quite content! What's fun about Limoncello is that it operates as an Italian market and a deli. The shop is on the corner and decently sized, with narrower walkways for the market and open space for the deli. Highly recommend perusing around the store since there's a lot of cool Italian goods! We came for the food and walked up the steps to the deli. You can see all of their meat displayed along with a menu on the wall boasting their sandwiches, salads, and other dishes. For those who get food, they have counter seating plus a few tables outdoors. Service by the staff was friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're also dog-friendly inside, and the pup had fun sniffing around![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I honestly don't eat deli meat often or crave an Italian sandwich, so this was a treat! I got the Siciliano Sandwich, Dutch Crunch, No Cheese and Pepperoncini. Companion had the Goodfella, Dutch Crunch, No Pepperoncini. They mixed up our sandwiches and didn't label them correctly so it took us a while to figure it out. Once we did we dug in and it was so good! The quality and freshness of the meat and veggies were superb! My companion commented that they loaded the greens up compared to other times he'd been there. The sandwiches themselves are massive and I only ate half of mine, so it's great to save for later! Limoncello has a few locations in the city, the Sutter Street one being their original. Highly recommend coming here to try their sandwiches or just walking around the shop. Parking around here is limited to street parking only.

Limoncello is MY SPOT! I eat there at least once a week and shop there at least once more. If you love Italian style / deli style sandwiches, you will enjoy their finely crafted and stacked sandwiches. My favorite is the Speciale which is a magic mountain of cured meat with mozzarella & olive spread. So damn good. My wife goes for the Alpino (+avo) which is like a club sandwich remixed by an Italian chef. They also have a ton of packaged Italian products (oils, sauces, pasta, candies, cookies, chips, etc) that I like to use when I feel like cooking. Combine this with their small assortment of cheese and pre-made options (lasagna, pasta salads, etc) and you got yourself a dinner. On top of that, they have an amazing selection of wine, beer and alcohol. My favorite part of the store is the owner / employees. They are such great people and really add to the neighborhood. As others have noted, my dog might be their biggest fan due to the treats. In summary: If you like sandwiches, Italian packaged good or booze - you WILL like Limoncello. read more

Best sandwich I've had in sf. This isn't your subway or even Ike's. It may take a little longer for each sandwich, but they're made fresh each time with real ingredients. The Caprese sandwich I ordered had fresh mozzarella, not your avg sliced cheese for example. It's a big sandwich too. I'll be coming back to try more of the many other sandwich varieties they have. Went in on a Friday evening. The place was immaculate and the aroma was exceptional. A lasagna was just coming out of the oven. I bought a piece of the warm lasagna, a bottle of wine, a mozzarella & tomato salad, and a cannoli. Brought it all home and had a feast! The lasagna was one of the best I've ever tasted. In addition to the above, I bought other food for the weekend. Chris threw in a chocolate croissant and an apple muffin. They were both delicious. The selection of foods and wines was amazing. Highly recommend!!! Get the LASAGNA!!!! read more

This place is amazing! We order the sandwiches from here all the time on postmates but finally stopped in to the actual store and were so impressed. The store is very cute and clean and has a huge selection of fine food products as well as my favorite sandwiches in San Francisco. The owner is so nice and introduced himself. We were waiting at the Spanish consulate across the street and found how many 5 stars this place got so decided that we got lucky for our lunch. Luckily also it was a sunny day and we could sit outside. The sandwiches and olives were amazing!!! I think they are the best sandwiches bid ever eaten. I joked with the owner that he must be putting cocaine in his sandwhiches to get such good reviews. He was a jovial guy and his recommended sand which of the Especiale was the best. It had the purest taste. But all three were excellent. I didn't know sandwhiches could taste so good. Bravo!!! read more

I came to San Francisco to visit my mother and was in the mood for a good sub spot as I am from jersey and there a number of places I can stop in and get a good sub. anyways I decided to use Yelp to find a good place and this came up. I ordered a turkey milanese and was thoroughly happy with my sandwich. The mixed greens in the sub were fresh, the bread was nice and soft , it wasn't soggy it was perfectly made to order. I decided to get it made spicy because I enjoy spicy food but for the faint of heart no worries it's not overly spicy so you would also enjoy it if you felt like giving your taste buds a lil more flavor. Not to mention the staff were friendly which added to my experience. Being that they are gourmet sandwiches it is a little pricey I ended up paying 14 bucks with a avocado added on the side but for the enjoyment of the sandwich I felt it was worth it. Also they have a few pastries not a huge variety but if u have a sweet tooth they may have something for you enjoyment. I ordered a chocolate croissant and it was great. At first glance in the display of pastires I didn't think I would of enjoyed it but it was delicious. They also sell alcohol so if your in the mood for a beverage they have it as well. It's not cheap but if you don't mind the price tag for alcohol go for it!!! Overall I recommend this place. read more

We are from the L.A. area. My first time in San Francisco and all of the touristy eateries were overwhelming me. I saw this place on yelp and somehow while driving around the city, starving, we turned a corner and there Limoncello was. We had to try it. The best cold sandwich I have ever ate. I chose the Goodfella because it provided all of the meats. You have the option to make it spicy and he will add some sort of hot sauce spread. They do not use Mayo and mustard. They use Olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar. It soaks into the bread, and although the bread looks rustic, it is very soft and juicy from the oil and vinegar. You can taste the tangy sweetness with every bite and the meats and cheese all blend together so well. The cannoli was very light and flavorful. The stuffed pepper was amazing as well. stuffed with a ball of mozzarella wrapped prosciutto. The owners are very nice men and they had great customer service. I can't wait to come back on my next trip. "When in Rome"... come here. you will be so happy you did. Did I forget to mention there's a ton of wine that you can sample. nice touch! read more

Excellent addition to the neighborhood! Tried Limoncello for the first time today...what a treat! The array of items in this place is incredible! Everything you'd expect to find in a convenience store PLUS amazing delicacies from Italy. The deli is full service offering everything from pastries to sandwiches, espresso, pasta dishes and more. Stumbled upon this spot while running around the city. What a gem. Ordered the Goodfella sandwich and sat outside to enjoy it. It was really good, and could probably feed two people. A good corner to people watch and soak in the city vibes. Chris, the owner, is super friendly and hardworking. He greets customers with a smile and prepares the food himself. The store also has really cool stuff--cute jars and bottles with all sorts delicious ingredients. Will definitely come back again! read more

Limoncello is my neighborhood sandwich spot and it has such a cute Italian feel to it and it's so delicious. When you walk in you feel transported to the streets of Italy. They have a fresh food (sandwiches, pizza, salad, etc.) counter, an ice cream, gelato, and dessert counter, and lots of specialty ingredients. All of their stuff is high quality and the owners and staff are so friendly and make you feel so welcome. I'd highly recommend this place. Please support them during these tough times for small businesses! read more

I had the Milanese sandwich at first, then the margherita pizza, and then the caprese sandwich with avocados. Everything was perfect! Chris and his staff are so nice and helpful. Even though I only visited San Francisco for a few days, I found myself stopping by every day and sometimes twice a day. An excellent place to get food, a must for anyone who loves Italian food! I ordered the Alpino and forgot to take a pic because I was so hungry and I was on a motorcycle. Ordered this to go and was not disappointed‼ the sandwich bread was fresh and not too thick like most deli's. Perfect amount of meat, lettuce was fresh greens not romaine or iceberg. Staff was friendly, professional and followed all procedures for the Covid19 guidelines. So happy I found this gem. Thank you for staying open during this uncertain time. Amazing food and owner! Girlfriend and I split a Mafioso sandwich with salami substituted for prosciutto because I'm not a fan, and Chris (the guy who made our sandwich and rang us up) was super nice about it. Went with the spicy spread since every review for this place recommends it, and it was tasty! For dessert we got a slice of tiramisu, and Chris noticed we were gonna eat it outside (side note: there's only three or four tables with two chairs each, so not the best spot for a huge party of people) so he let us go eat it before having us pay. After devouring dessert, he joked (or could've been serious) that if we hadn't liked it he wouldn't have charged us. He was super nice, asked us if it was our first time and how we heard about the place, and even asked for our names. Next time I go to SF I'm going to stop in to try a different sandwich and hopefully one of the many treats in the deli! read more

Been looking for a good local deli since I just moved up to the city and the search is over! This place is amazing. From the service to the quality of food, it doesn't get much better. I've had the Alpino and Speciale several times and need to try the rest. Be sure to add spicy spread! read more

The pastrami, Swiss, and sauerkraut balanced out well, nothing overpowered anything else, and it wasn't oversalted like a lot of Reubens end up being. The rye had a nice distinct character to it too. Next time I'll probably just walk in and order instead of doing delivery. I'm curious about their other sandwiches, though something cold would probably survive the DoorDash trip a lot better than this one did.

I was wrong because it actually was a hard chocolate exterior with caramel filling inside. I'd skip on this because of the price and how difficult it was to eat--we only finished it because we paid so much for it. The strawberry cream cube was also different. It sort of reminded me of a croissant but had a different texture alongside a peppery aftertaste while being sweet pastry. While I liked the texture of it, I personally wasn't a fan of the sweet peppery flavor, but the others in my group liked it. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait in a decent sized line to order our food. Even though the line looked long, it does move pretty quickly. Service was average. The store itself was very aesthetic and had some limited indoor seating. Overall, I'd say I left feeling a bit underwhelmed and I don't think I'd personally come back.

I wanted an approval for a car but I had a fico score of 578 Equifax, 643 Transunion and 659 Experian. I'm not sure which is more of a spectacle, the HUMONGOUS sandwiches here or Chris throwing it down like a boss at the deli line. If I were to say, I'd have to go with both! When you enter Limoncello, you'll always be warmly greeted. This specialty Italian shop divvies up a broad selection of imported wine and packed food products. It's always a treat grabbing up a few items from here. They have huge Italian dry salamis hanging over the deli section as well as various cheeses to choose from when buying on its own or when creating custom sandwiches and salads. I was at Limoncello a few weeks ago with my brother, when we were on holiday in San Francisco. This place is amazing! The owner and his wife are the nicest, kindest people you can imagine. They are so friendly and warm-hearted! The owner made us beautiful and delicious sandwiches which made us feel like we were on holiday in Italy. The sandwiches were packed with a variety of high quality cold-cuts and vegetables, so yummy :-) there is also a big selection of excellent pastries and Italian biscuits. I recently walked into Limoncello, hoping to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and perhaps a bite to eat. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Despite there being both cooks and a server present, neither acknowledged me, let alone offered any assistance. I waited for some time, but their lack of attention left me feeling unwelcome. Frustrated, I decided to leave and walked down the road to Pacific Plaza Cafe, where I was greeted warmly and received excellent service. It's a shame because I was looking forward to trying Limoncello, but customer service plays a huge role in creating a positive experience, and they fell short. read more

Sandwiches are okay. Nothing mindblowing. They deliver late night and I crave Italian sandwiches frequently, so I ordered delivery from here a couple times. Won't be making that mistake again. Last time I ordered, ETA was 30/40 min. Food arrived 90 min later. I live 6 minutes away.. I had food poisoning for 5/6 days after eating their sandwich. Odd because everyone raves about how fresh the ingredients are. Won't be ordering from here again. There are way too many quality Italian sandwich joints in SF for me to risk food poisoning. Tried the Petto di Pollo and the Sicilian sandwiches for lunch. I was very excited to try Limoncello's because I came by a few weeks ago (unfortunately, after I had eaten) and was intrigued by the menu. The sandwiches did not disappoint me. I liked the Petto di Pollo but would get it a little more spicy next time. I chose the regular because I was sharing. The Sicilian was a tasty sandwich with lots of Italian meat. Amazing! What a great place! The food was excellent and the owners were really sweet. We went for lunch after an appointment at the Spanish Consulate (across the street.) My daughter got the lasagna; my wife the Caprese (the owner recommended adding avocado; my wife loved it); my son got a hotdog (he's the least adventurous of us), and I got the Toscana. This place is an incredible addition to the neighborhood! I live and work here and it has become a weekly indulgence. You are greeted like an old friend when you enter. It is great for vegetarians, the Roasted Vegetable sandwich is one of the best I've had - super fresh veggies and pesto! Very friendly and have fresh good tasting sandwiches. They also serve wine, beer and other drinks. There's a market inside the place. it has limited to no indoor seating but has 6 outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Their Specielle Sandwich with prosciutto was good and sour dough tasted fresh. They have lots of wine and alcohol choices along with other items for a small market Street venue. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we saw lots of people coming in and out with orders. It's clearly a staple in the area. read more

Delicious sandwiches, a great selection of cured meats, and enough sweet treats to make even the sweetest tooth need a break. A great spot to find a specialty ingredient for a home made Italian meal, or to pick up a warm, premade comfort meal after a long day. The owner is a really nice guy. We got three sandwiches from their deli and they all tasted great. Try them for sure! The store itself also have a great vibe to it :) We will be visiting again without a doubt. read more

I recently visited Limoncello, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish! I recently visited Limoncello in San Francisco and tried the Mafioso sandwich. The flavors were on point and I enjoyed every bite, although the bread was slightly chewy. However, what truly stood out was the owner's assistance and kindness. He was super sweet and made the visit even more enjoyable. Wow, only 9 reviews that show up in the Yelp search and 354 reviews that Yelp took down and marked as "not currently recommended". Yelp is not even displaying my Yelp reviews for this business and I used to be Yelp Elite. The sandwiches here are still good and I would definitely recommend....but it looks like they had a lot of fake reviewers with only 1 or 2 reviews. The business probably also decided to not pay the Yelp extortion fees. read more

Each dish we ordered--from starter to entree--was absolutely fantastic. Rustic Canyon showcases fresh, seasonal ingredients by marrying global flavors with adept execution. From a pozole with mussels to sunchokes with romesco, our palates were taken on an adventure to several continents right in my local neighborhood.
