Come early for brunch if you want their famous Buffalo Bloody Marys. They were out when we got there at 11am. Ordered an omelet and hashbrowns (omelet was good, hashbrowns were awesome!), also had a orange champagne, which was just okay. The place is always busy, lot of loud music and crowd noise. Before heading out on Saturday, my friends and I gathered to determine a Capitol Hill destination. Whilst discussing which new bar to try, an episode of Northern Exposure was playing the background. How appropriate was it then, when we walked into Linda's and noticed the buffalo head, wooden bar, and lots of (pseudo?) hipster kids wearing various plaid shirts and hats. This must be the Seattle version of a townie bar in the middle of Alaska. I don't know what the social scene is like in Alaska, but I really liked the vibe here. We sat at the bar, so people were constantly jutting in to order drinks. This wasn't so much an annoyance as it was opportunity to chat us up and offer shots (we declined). I like the fact that you can sub chicken breast for burger meat. The chicken/bbq/onion ring combo is booomb. Everything I love in a chicken breast buger. Well, if you're willing to wait for it to come... Everything else is not so awesome. Yes, the bathroom sucks and is very strangely laid out- one stall, one sink, no lock. Yes, it is always crowded as balls. Table service is pretty much non-existent at night. It takes forever to get acknowledged for a menu. They don't write anything down either- I tried to sub my fries for a side salad and the server seemed to understand when I ordered, but I ended up with a huge pile of fries and a dinner salad -which I got charged for. I arrived to get a quick drink after work and I was waiting 25 mins before I eventually left. It was Saturday evening and it was busy but I was sitting in a clear section at the end of the bar. The bartender deliberately made eye contact with me, smiled, and turned away to serve new people who arrived after me. Couldn't understand why she did that. Going to school at SU, my friends and I always tried to find places around capital hill to unwind after our evening classes. One night someone suggested we hit up Linda's, and that's where our class gathered at. Pretty busy for a Thursday night. Happy hour food was decent and cheap. Drinks were nice and stiff. Grungy, yet, acceptable. I really have no concept of why this place is so packed out. It's too loud, the food is mediocre at best, you have to fight to get a drink, and the place is always packed out. But will I go there again? Probably. Why? Because it's hip and fairly cheap. I am not a fan of Linda's. It's dark, divey, grungy, of questionable cleanliness, one unisex bathroom, loud and crowded. The pool table is cool, but you have to pay to play. Otherwise the food and drinks are reasonably priced. If you want to be in a frat basement outside of a frat, this is the place. I typically avoid this bar unless friends insist on going. I would not make this place the bar of choice of my own volition. The only reason to go is because Kurt Cobain was seen here; go in, check it out, and then leave. read more

I would say this is a less-than-spectacular bar that's great to go to if meeting up with your friends is the number 1 priority. I was forewarned about the hipster vibe, but when I was there from 10-11:30p last Saturday night, it was a decidedly casual vibe (classic cut jeans and goretex, for sure). There was a definite lack of seating inside but we were able to share a table with a couple around us. Patrons were definitely polite and friendly. Something that really pissed me off, though, was that 1/3 of their seating is outdoors and they have tons of heat lamps -- but even though it was a chilly night, they didn't turn ANY of them on. This is a trend I've noticed and it's really quite aggravating. What's the point? I think we would have stuck around the rest of the night had there been heat lamps on. read more

I feel like Linda's is not a place any grown adult person would want to hang out at after a certain hour of the day, particularly on the weekends, and so I don't. This review is based on the times of day I DO hang out there, which is weekend brunch-time, and weekday happy hour-time. If you are a grown adult person read on. If you are a little baby read on. Linda's is for everybody. The servers at Linda's are human beings, with different temperaments, and personalities. Some of them are very engaging and warm, some of them are all business, but it takes all sorts, and each of them has been nothing short of attentive and accommodating every time I've been in, and I've been in a lot. The patio still manages to feel like a special, secret club house, even with the new condo looming oppressively above it. Bring your binoculars and let's let staring into rich people's homes, once they move in there, become a new, favorite pastime! Don't bring crayons, or markers, or those little plastic water color trays because I don't think we're allowed to actually fill in the paint-by-numbers mural on the patio wall, and why tempt ourselves? The food at Linda's is standard bar fare, but the chicken fried steak they serve for breakfast is special and delicious. They cook a pretty perfect tater tot. For some reason their pitchers of Olympia Beer taste crisp, and refreshing, and delicious in a way not typical of cheap beer from the tap. They'll also serve you a whole pitcher of mimosas at breakfast if you're getting your weekend day-drinking on, because they know how to have a good time. Maybe most importantly Linda's feels like a Capitol Hill institution, and as places like that increasingly give up the ghost I think it's important to support the ones that manage to hang on. The tacos are delicious, mimosa pitchers are made using an entire bottle of champagne, and seating is never a problem if you show up at or before noon. This is really simple. Do you want a dive bar with great music, good vibes, a pool table you'll love to hate, great burgers and fries (love the fries), always has people inside, allows you to smoke in their patio, pours stiff cheap drinks, and bouncers/bartenders that remember your name and face? Go. This has been my go-to bar since I moved to Seattle and, for me, will always embody the spirit and vibe of the city. Go. Seriously go. I only go in for breakfast, which is usually greasy but...palatable. The gravy has so much dill in it though I'd rather die than eat it ever again. Price is decent-like 7-10 dollars. The servers in the morning have always been way amazing and friendly and they are able to keep up on the coffee better than any other breakfast place on the Hill. Being from the Midwest, I'm accustomed to Flo the waitress being permanently attached to the coffee pot. While they aren't quite up to Flo's standard, they don't do too bad. If I have a group with me I can usually talk one of them into plunking a pot on the table. The juke box is cool except when some d-bag decides to spend all their money on making the rest of the restaurant miserable. It doesn't happen often in my experience though. And their pool table is fun to play with while you're waiting for your food, or you aren't ready to go home yet. You can plan on waiting a good while if you show up during the big "breakfast" time. But again, everyone's friendly. They're more concerned with getting you a table than chatting, and everyone's usually on task. read more

I've never really been here except for brunch. However, every time I go I love the place. I almost always end up with french toast on my plate and some mimosas. The drinks are always nice and stiff and the food is always tasty. some days the food is a bit greasy, but where do you get food at a bar that isn't so greasy? It's just so delicious. I highly recommend getting there about 30-45 minutes before you want to eat though because there always seems to be a line and a wait for the food! ----------------------------------------------------- Updated review: I'm knocking it down a star because the past few times I've gone my food has been burnt and cold. How I end up with burnt french toast that is still cold on the inside is beyond me, but it has happened now twice. Tried the special and I'm normally not a pancake person but I loved the strawberry pancakes! The pieces of strawberries in the actual pancake made them sweet already so I barely needed syrup. Did not love the service. Maybe it's too dark and no one could see we needed help? Either way, the food was decent and Linda's is so close by we'll probably be back to enjoy the outdoor patio someday soon! Also tried the huevos rancheros and added avocado! Eggs were nice and runny, and the overall dish was okay.. Too much beans for me but still delicious because eggs are life. read more

Linda's is a good place to go for a cheap standard American breakfast, but they've definitely raised their food prices a lot over the last few years. I don't think I've had drinks there more than a few times (besides Blue Moon, their beer selection is pretty boring). Service is really hit or miss. Yes, Linda's is a dive bar. But Linda's the BEST dive bar. Its huge, has a patio, and has happy hour from 7-9 everyday. Their food menu is pretty tasty and they serve up all the bar food classics like wings, fries, and burgers and also have some delicious southwest style plates. I have been here when the service is absolutely incredible and there have been times where its just been so-so. It never takes away from the experience of Linda's. The outdoor biergarten is why people come. At least that's why I'd come. Why stay indoors? The vibe here is, of course, hipster. We're on CapHill for goodness sake. This is a great place to just walk around and explore. Stand outside and have your beer in peace. It's a cool space. The HH is every day until 9pm. $14 for a pitcher. The funniest part is there are no smoking signs all along the wooden walls in the biergarten. Haha -- given that the whole place is made out of wood let's hope people do indeed heed that posting. read more

Linda's is a brunch staple for my fiance and I, especially on hungover mornings. We used to schlepp up from our nearby apartment on foot, but now we make the commute from farther away, just because it's a favorite. Great prices, strong drinks, and friendly wait staff make this a great place to have breakfast. You may have a wait, but it's worth it! Minus one star for the sometimes less-than-stellar service. But it's a busy place, and it's on Capital Hill, so what can you expect -- and the service has definitely improved in the last few months. read more

I am so torn on this location. A group of us came a while ago, and the only seats open were outside. The heater was not working, my drink was mixed wrong, and the food took so long our drinks were done by the time it arrived. Tonight (Friday of memorial day weekend) we got seats inside. However, it is super loud, our waiter looks like Waldo from where's Waldo. It's honestly too lout to order food or drinks. I'm kind of disappointmented with both experiences. If management rolls back the cameras to 3pm ish Sunday April 22 you see how slow the establishment was and the bartender was def on something. Very very very rude, forgetful, crazy slow ....it was an inconvenience to him he had a few patrons to wait on and with a few patrons was in the weeds. Meh. I've only been here once, but I was pretty disappointed. I am willing to give it another shot though. We sat outside since it was a nice day and had some brunch. The service was really friendly and competent, but the food wasn't good. I imagine that most people who eat brunch at Linda's are either drunk or hung over, so I can understand why people would love it, but I was sober. Way sober. I had banana bread french toast and it was way undercooked and mushy in a really gross way. It took forever to get our food and it wasn't even that crowded. The bad food and slow (but friendly!) service sucked, but my least favorite things about the experience were (1) the fact that the outside smoking area is so close to the outdoor seating that you get constant whiffs of smoke and (2) the fact that I felt like I was at a hungover hipster convention. Most of the people didn't seem like they were judgmental or anything (too drunk/hungover to notice anyone not at their tables), but I definitely felt out of place and I even live in Capitol Hill so I'm used to hipsters and douche-bags. I didn't hate it so much that I'd never go back, but it'll be a while before I'll be in the mood to try it again. Sad too since it's one of the few breakfast/brunch places on the hill. :-( read more

Go there for happy hour when the beer is cheap. The happy hour sliders are super tasty and it's a relatively fun relaxed crowd (until you have to wait in line to use the restroom). Unless you are on a mission to drink a pitcher of mimosa, there's really no reason to wait in line to get brunch there though. I could have made a better brunch at home even if I were still wasted from the night before. Bland and crappy and you will probably be sober enough to realize how grimy it is in there. So yeah, stick to Linda's after the sun goes down and you're a little liquored up. read more

This place is classic. The patio is perfect. A moment from the evening: I tossed a miniature action figure into my friends nearly-empty beer, then the waiter came by and scooped up the glass. I blurted/shouted "WAIT WAIT WAIT, our action figure is in there!" Waited apologized, delicately handed back the glass, and didn't even laugh at me, at least not to my face. I had the pleasure of going to Linda's a few times on my recent trip to Seattle. The first night I went was the anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death, and I guess Linda's is rumored to be the last place he was seen alive? This place was moderately packed when we went. It's a very hipstery type of place. I honestly felt like I stepped back into the 90s! Cheap drinks and cool bartenders. I tried a really good red ale, the name of which is escaping me right now-boo. First, a disclaimer: I've never had the brunch. I don't like crowded brunches. It's probably great, food-wise. Who knows? Ok! So I've been to Linda's for drinks lots and once for food. The food was a no-go because, apparently, they close the kitchen for like.. I don't know, half an hour? On Sundays? We were bummed and left because I was in serious need of a burger. (Love you Mia's.) So for the drinks, I guess I've been at weird times or whatever, I dont know, and the same guy always serves my party and me, and we call him Palm Tree Neck Tattoo Guy. If you're a regular then I'm sure you know who PTNTG is, and he's probably an awesome dude or whatever, but man... the service is seriously lacking. Sorry, PTNTG. I feel bad, I really do, but it must be said. I keep going back to Linda's because I love the space and the vibe, but I actually try to avoid being served by PTNTG, because the service is slow and inattentive. So yeah, basically, this place is popular, and if you are into popular places and crowds and (probably) decent food and cool vibes, it's awesome.
