I dropped into Linda's to meet an old college mate I hadn't seen in 12 years...to enjoy a good juke...and local brews...and a biergarten vibe on a summer evening... and Linda's provided all of the above... I was staying at the Grand Hyatt in the hotel district.. but this district is a short but invigorating uphill jaunt from downtown.. I enjoyed the evening sky...and the slow melting into a alternative kind of space... the neighborhood had some cool book stores...and second hand furniture spaces...and restaurants and cafes.. many spots I would remind myself to check out next time I'm in Seattle.. Inside Linda's.. there was space in the biergarten.. the service was friendly and casual...and the beers were cool and refreshing and the energy in the space was warm... laughter.. tunes... nice mix of peeps.... the time went by fast.... which is a good thing when you're in a bar/beirgarten. Dive bar with a good happy hour. Linda's has always been a standard stop for a night out on the hill. There's a good amount of people on Fridays and Saturdays, but there's still room for a larger group. It has a really nice outdoor patio during the warmer months. I wasn't impressed with their brunch, but they have good Happy Hour from 7-9pm daliy. The last time I went there, they had a somewhat craft cocktail menu that looked pretty good. read more

I had forgotten how good the brunch is here. There's not one entree over $10--except maybe the steak and eggs. They want you to linger and enjoy your meal. Super yummy huevos rancheros. Hubs got the Texas Taco, and it wasn't as good, but filling. Being able to eat on the back patio is awesome. They also have space for large groups. What takes this place from 4 star to 5 is the back patio, especially on a nice day. A great place to hang out with friends at the end of the day. 5 stars in the short Seattle summer. A bartenders are cool, and give great pours. The vodka rocks I just had was nice and stiff. There's a pool table which seems to attract some real good local players if you want to be challenged. Aw, such good times here. Being out-of-towners on my bachelorette party, this was an unexpected stop at the end of a Saturday night, after partying at a club beforehand. Yeah, we had a solid buzz going already, but I'm so glad we decided to end our night here. From the doorway, this looked like a dark little dive (and it is) but so much more than that. We hung out on the patio with a mixed crowd - students, hipsters, hippies, techies, a little bit of everyone. It was a good crowd. The bartenders on the patio were awesome and we didn't have to scramble just to get a table and chairs - added bonus. What can I say about Linda's that hasn't already been said? First the good: the patio rocks. We managed to snag a table outside, and it was just the right kind of crispness in the air for a great summer/fall night. When it started to get cold, they turned on the heaters. The beer is cheap, and good enough to drink. The food is standard pub-fare. We had the nachos, onion rings, and fries, and they were all good, but nothing to write home about. Now the bad: The beer selection is not always the greatest. Now, I was outside, so the beer selection at the bar was a little different, but they go for cheap instead of good...which is definitely a good thing for certain nights, but I would rather taste good beer than cheap beer sometimes. Also, don't go for the drink specials. I was seduced by the "planter's punch" for some unknown reason, and it disappointed, to say the least. Linda's is the reason I've only reviewed one other bar. Well, not the whole reason, but part of the reason. I go to Linda's far too much. My friends and I always start out the evening thinking about all the new, exciting places we can go to, and new exciting drinks we can get, and then end up at Linda's drinking cheap PBR pitchers on the patio. The crowd at Linda's seems to be shifting from very hipster to a pretty even mix of hipsters and "bro's", but everyone seems to get along just fine. Linda's has a great jukebox, tiny bathrooms, a pretty good staff, and it's one of the only places left in Seattle to sit down and smoke. I haven't had the food yet, but I doubt it will affect my review one way or the other. There is some sort of unaccountable inertia at Linda's that keeps there on my nights out. Best hangover breakfast spot! Mimosa pitchers and Bloody Mary's served with a stick of buffalo jerky!!! I'm in heaven. I took one of my good friends here the morning after his 21st birthday. He was so sick he puked right at the table. I'm sure we ruined the Linda's experience for anyone in our surrounding area. The waitress kicked us out (no hard feelings, I would have kicked us out too.) But they made our food to go. We had an excellent outdoor brunch on the patio at Linda's a few weekends ago while in Seattle for a college friend's wedding. We were seated pretty quickly as we arrived right after Linda's opens at 11 AM. We really liked the campy queer Twin Peaks vibe and the friendly staff. The crowd was cute and fun, and the food was excellent and the right price. The real show-stopper was the bloody mary, though, which had just the right amount of heat and a variety of delicious pickled veggies as the garnish. Plenty of people get excited about the patio for afternoon drinking, but for me, having brunch out there is really where the action is. I've been there plenty of times and eaten inside, but it's a much better experience out on the patio. Having the first meal of the day while getting some rays is easily the way to go, and less depressing than starting out the day in a dark bar. The food is always pretty good, and there are always specials on the menu, so there's something for everyone. My faves include the biscuits and gravy, the chicken fried steak, and breakfast sliders (it's not as weird as it sounds). read more

For the amount of times my friends have been kicked out, we seem to end up here quite often... There is definitely something to be said for how forgiving they are, LOL. Sometimes they have these great drink specials. Once it was $5 for a shot of Tequila and a Tecate! I stumbled out that night with a light heart and a heavy wallet. I'm not a music critic, but if a bar or club is playing bad enough music, it is really distracting and makes the beer taste worse. Linda's beer tasted like Def Leppard. A friend visited from out of town and we wanted to try some of the well-yelped CapHill spots so Linda's was first on the list. We were impressed with the selection of beers on tap and the authentic but somewhat clean dive-bar vibe. The beers we tried were very good. However...the entire time we were there they were playing Def Leppard and Guns N Roses songs. (It could have been just one of those bands, I can't tell them apart. Either way, after the 2nd beer and 6th or 7th GNR song I was ready to leave and go anywhere else.) + 3 stars for having good beer and a unique vibe. - one star for allowing the Wayne's World guys to choose the playlist during Friday night happy-hour. read more

Best hangover food. I've been here a few times for brunch on the weekends. There is usually a 15-20 minute wait depending on what time you get there. Usually packed around noon time when all the hungover people wake up hungry. The food is consistently good. The staff is funny and cool, yet not overly friendly. I like that it's hip and has great food and drinks! I can never decide on one thing so I usually order two items. I can't remember what I ordered last time. I think some eggs benedict or something and pancakes and some special omelette, but I have never been disappointed. My friends love coming to this bar. It's dark, smells kinda funny and is always crowded on the weekends. Love the back patio area, especially during the summer. Haven't eaten here yet, but their drinks get me plenty drunk, so that's a good thing. They have a pool table that's usually always occupied and a jukebox that I believe works. Linda's serves food for cowboys. Although probably better as a bar, I have been to brunch at Linda's two times too many. Both times, I was underwhelmed with their breakfast foods. I could've made a better breakfast burrito in my sleep. Then I wouldn't have had to put on pants to eat it, when I woke up. Also, there seems to be some major disconnect with the ordering of a BEERMOSA. I am unsure if the servers are just so busy, that they only hear the "beer" part, and bring you back a Pabst, or if the bartender is just fed up with all the alcoholism on the hill, and figures that anyone making up drinks ought to sober up with a tall glass of OJ, but Great Balls of Fire is it hard to get them to pour beer into a half-filled glass of orange juice around here. Other than that, I dig the fact that their jukebox (muzak? 5-disc CD player?!?) only seems to carry Pearl Jam and Nirvana tunes, because this is the kind of music cowboys like to listen to while they eat sub-standard breakfast sliders and beerless-juice. As far as food, I'd take the Canterbury over Linda's, any day or night. Hands down, or dukes up. I am being completely honest when I say I was a little intoxicated by the time I got to this bar. However!!! I absolutely remember how awesome it was. It's a little divey and the prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for this area. I think a shot of tequila and a PBR cost me 8 bucks. It has a beautiful outdoor seating area that kind of surprised me. I stepped outside and was shocked at the space they had! Our server (even though it was super busy) was quick and always there for anything I could have possibly needed. So I'm in between giving this 3.5 to 4 stars. Both times I have been here, the food and drinks have been very well made which would be a 5 star. The service is a little off and on. Tonight we had a really great server 53 Dale, is what is on my receipt. He was fast and efficient for how busy it was in there. So I give him a 5 star. But we were there last month and our waitress, I don't have her name was slow, unfriendly and not very good on checking in on our table. So maybe next time I go there the service will be 100% amazing and I can give Linda's a 5 star re-review. :) read more

I end up at Linda's quite frequently. I like the vibe. Even if there is a touch of hipster pretentiousness, it is dealt out by generally friendly staff and clientele so I don't mind. The interior feels warm and cozy, and the outside area is genuinely great, even if it doesn't get much sun. Drinks are strong, and happy hour is from 7-9 which is fantastic. You can end an early happy hour pub crawl at Linda's. I've never had food, but I don't need to and this place still earns a solid 4 stars. read more

I came here while visiting my friend in Seattle, and besides the lore of this place, we visited because my friend loves it here. It's a relaxing place to knock down a couple pitchers of beer. Happy hour is reasonable. By the way, they also have a good playlist. Yes, the bathrooms are crappy-- I didn't get trashed that night so I guess the bathroom wasn't too much of an issue. I would hate to think that I would be kneeling on that floor though... yeck. Plus, I think I interrupted something when I went in there... these two chicks' dirty looks told me I intruded. Go to the bathroom on the bottom floor. But that's besides the point. The beer was good, and our server was nice and checked in. She was pretty cool about our slowly growing group as well. (I don't know, some servers get huffy about it.) We ordered some food, and the sliders I got were really filling! My friend got some onion rings... it was slightly deeper fried than I'm used to, but still really good. Overall, a good time was had by all and we left with round bellies and smiles. Went in yesterday for a quick well drink right as the bar opened and was appalled by the bartender's behavior. As I was walking away from the bar, he called me back and said, "Did you forget something?" This a$$hat treated me like he was my parent guilt tripping me over taking out the trash because i didn't think to take a PAPER COASTER with me back to my table. Stopped by the other night quick fix for the first time. Ordered hot wings and a glass of beer from the bartender. I waited for the hot wings for like 15 or 20 minutes then noticed that the wings were sitting by the under heat lamp by the kitchen window. How did I know it was mine? Because the two servers were taking other plates but not that one. The bartender was too busy to get my attention as she was getting drinks for endless walk up customers. Finally, she looked at me and noticed it and briskly brought over the wings. I told her that it's been sitting there for how long and it's probably lukewarm and dry by now. She graciously offered it on the house. Well, the wings weren't fried all the way and it was still bloody near the wing bones. Zzz, it was comped and I didn't' want to call her back again, waste of my time and hers. What pissed me off was those servers. Why couldn't' they just brought it to her attention that the wings were sitting there for how long.. It's about 6-7 steps from the food pick window to where the bartender stands. I'm giving a poor overall rating but did tip more than 20% for her efforts. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. Low key, chill environment. Perfect place for a group of friends to get together to have a few beers and play pool. I wish they had more than 1 table though. One of my favorite dive bars in Seattle. I have been there for breakfast once so far, and their mimosas are GREAT. Order one pitcher and you'll be very satisfied. There is a jukebox with super awesome old school rock music. Highly recommend this place. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because of parking. We always walk because it's not far from us, but for others coming from further away it can be a pain to find street parking, especially on the weekends. read more

The Long story short Pros: they serve beer Cons: Rude bar staff, ignorant and violent bouncer, strict rules against making noise, laughing and having fun. Dress code: must have dreads, wear a tuque (re: French for knitted hat) or a handmade sweater Warning: This place does not want MS employees, programmers or anyone who doesn't look the part. We'll call it hipster-ism for lack of a better word. The short story long: I'm a pretty laid back guy. I made the mistake of, in addition to a plain black t-shirt and blue geans, wearing a sports jacket as a coat to Linda's one night. The snotty bar staff reluctantly served me, despite my friendly attitude. Once seated, the waitress was snobby, when she was actually around. As the short night went on, I started to realize that my friends and I were subtly given hints that we did not belong there: people bumping into the backs of our chairs, the lack of service to us but not to others (see dress code). Regardless, the night was marginally cordial, until I made some noise at my table. I was telling a joke to my friends about singers and I did my best rendition of old-school rock singers, resulting in an accurate 3 second long screech resembling Ozzy and/or Robert Plante. From across the room, the bouncer with flashlight-in-hand, was waving at me in disgust. I laughed it off as if it was humorous, and a few minutes later made the same noise, this time for a much shorter duration. Keep in mind, I do sing on a weekly basis. I do have a loud voice. But we're talking about a 3-5 second outburst of laughter and song at a busy and otherwise noisy bar. There were no lyrics, let alone racy ones, as a part of that singing. I calmly questioned the bouncer at the door what was up with the flashlight in the eyes and his hostile motions from across the room. After a quick conversation, which was like talking to a post, he quietly but threateningly told me that the two of us were going to "step outside". I called his bluff and said "ok, let's do that". At that point some over-reactive bartending staff rallied behind the bouncer, claiming I was some hostile monster of some sort. One bartender confronted me and said "if I call the cops, which I will, then all the staff will say 'you were hostile'". Meanwhile, the hostile words of the bouncer to me remained un-witnessed. His name is Tim. Don't even talk to this guy, laugh or have fun (and definitely don't sing) or he'll kick you out. To repeat, I was kicked out of the bar for making noise. The bouncer was adamant that I was disturbing other customers, in an otherwise noisy place. There were no bands, karaoke or other acts going on, just some standard radio music in the background. The real reason was something more like we were sitting at a table that some of the hipster-Nazi-friends of the barstaff wanted to sit at and that we didn't look the part. I now know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of some sort of "ism". Hipster-ism? Whatever it was, it was ugly. I am miffed, annoyed and was very embarrassed. read more

I am disappointed with this bar. The bartender was rude and did not show me the same common courtesy as the other customers. Furthermore, I was the only black person in the bar and felt as though I did not belong by the cold stares I received by the other patrons and staff there. In addition to the poor service I received, I was dastrastly over priced for the liquor I received. I return on the 16th of August, and I remembered some of the bartenders there because I have given them a ride home. The bartender over charged me for a Long Island Iced Tea. Linda's is my favorite bar on Capitol Hill, mainly for its laid-back and chill atmosphere -- a quintessential Seattle bar. The staff are friendly, so long as you don't walk into this place expecting a martini. Instead, order one of their craft beers on tap or an Oly. At Linda's you come as you are. I walk in and didn't realize it's a damn tavern... translation have you f$&king ID I didn't so Curtis turned me away so me being irritated I wasn't happy so I was like well f$€k it I'll get my ID I did and my boyfriend(partner) called me mind you he is a truck driver and travels long distances so I don't stop my life to handle my partner call. So then I come back in and I'm on the phone and I don't get service I'm like what the hell is the hold up. So Curtis comes over and says he doesn't interrupt people on the phone... wth lol I'm like f$@k that he don't know me I'm not on the phone with a friend so be mindful everyone is different feel free to interrupt people on the phone. You interrupt people talking to each other in person please interrupt them on the phone. I work at a hotel and definitely know what it means when some bimbo is on the phone and I'm checking them in. I love when the guest does put down the phone... ohhh anyways I order a salad not my liking gross af but I don't drink so I ask Curtis what do I get if I don't drink and he says the mango White Claw yummy sh!t you will ever have if you don't drink!!!! An oldie but a goodie, warts and all. Great place to grab a pint with some friends and talk about whatever. Their huge patio in the back is perfect for summer afternoons/evenings. Definitely stick to beer or the most basic of cocktails (rum and coke, anyone?). One of the most appropriate places to drink PBR. read more
