I'm intrigued by Linda's. I can with utmost honesty say I would never have ventured here on my own, but Miss Emily had a Birthday and this was the location of celebration. When we got here it was jam-packed, but luckily the group had already secured their (3rd?) table for the evening, which we eventually moved one more time. Other patrons were none too pleased with our need for a larger table and incessant hogging of chairs, but they can piss off ;) Decor is interesting to say the least. As others have stated, it's like a hunting lodge in the middle of the city, very peculiar. Our waitress, although busy, did a good job keeping our drinks coming. I wish I knew her name so I could throw out some "mad props" but I never caught her name. Several times she forgot one or two of our drinks, but would remember and get them back to us as quickly as she could. When my roommate spilled his drink (only his second of the evening, he's just a klutz) she supplied him with a complimentary one. I honestly don't think we were charged for all of our drinks, because our tab was really cheap, but no complaints about that. Linda's boosts a full bar, a decent beer selection, pool, sort of icky bathrooms, cool staff who never appeared frazzled or overwhelmed, and kicky patrons. Apparently they draw quite an diverse crowd and Friday showed that. It's hard to convince the roommate to go anywhere except the one bar he frequents in the city, but it's safe to say we'll be back time and again, he loved Linda's. read more

Linda's positives are menu variety (delicious, spiked hot cocoa!), relative cheapness for neighborhood, outdoor bar area perfect for summer, and good service. I went there late on Thanksgiving night, and our table had a designated server who was quite attentive about checking in on us even though we had drinks but no food. The main reasons I don't give this a higher star rating is that it has a major hipster vibe (not my thing), there's basically nothing special about it, and it seems dive on accident. Kind of sad that they are changing the happy hour time, because it was amazing when it was from 7pm-9pm to get a small discount on beers. But, this is the perfect place to drink beer and have bar food. The burger is kind of whatever. The fries are really good. They have tater tots that aren't sad and mushy. The chicken strips are unique and have some interesting spices going on. Quesadilla is pretty good - but warning: you have to pay extra for sour cream and guacamole. It also comes with tortilla chips. They have a patio. It's not like an amazing culinary experience. It's a low-key place to have beer and eat chicken wings. And it's perfect for that if you live close by. They play good music, too. read more

I have a feeling that Linda's is one of those places that either clicks with you or doesn't, and for me, there was not much in the way of sparks. While I respect the bouncer is doing his job, would you mind letting us come in from the cold (and by extension not leaving the door open to freeze everyone else) before demanding IDs even as we are digging them out of our wallets? I didn't personally interact with the bartenders so no comments there, and there were two staff members who bustled around the floor taking orders and serving food and drink. Both seemed diligent and on the ball and are a major reason why I didn't rank Linda's lower. I didn't eat anything, and my rum & coke was fine but not good enough to entice me to order more than one. The space itself is decently sized with a few booths and tables down near the bar (that our large party took over) and a more spacious upstairs collection of booths and tables. The place is popular enough that it was quite crowded on a Friday night and the disadvantage of our location was that there were a lot of people pressed up around the bar as well. The bathrooms were reasonably clean, but 2 bathrooms (one per gender) really isn't sufficient for the number of people that were hanging out, and waiting in the hallway is inconvenient as people are going back and forth to the outdoor patio. The music ranged from loud to painfully loud, which is never a good situation for me, and I was starting to get a headache by night's end. While I had a good time, it was more related to the good company I was with than to the establishment. However, it didn't really do anything 'wrong' either. I love this bar! It's a dive (I came here once in the afternoon and it smelled like the Canal St subway station in NY... ahhh happy memories of the Big Apple!), but it's legit. I came back last night and the smell seemed to have gone away. The bartenders are super cool and I have to agree with Vas that the back patio is pretty awesome. It's spacious, not overly crowded (okay, it was a Wednesday night, I'm kind of a lush, I get it) and was just great for chillaxing with friends on a summer night. Drinks are cheap! We had 2 beer and 4 double G&Ts, and my total bill came to $35! Mind = blown! They have the hell or high watermelon beer on tap (yay! Perfect summer beer! It tastes like watermelon juice). The crowd is also cool... they actually lined up at the bar to place their orders and close out their tabs. I'm so used to clamoring at the bar for the bartender's attention, so I just parked my ass at one of the bar stools to re-order and one of the patrons gently told me (after I got my drinks) that I had just cut in line (sorry, guys!). There's also a pool table (although the table is kind of old, but what do you expect for 50 cents?). I like to pretend that I can play pool here while sipping on my girly beer. This review is for Claire who took care of me and my friends for Sunday brunch during pride. She took all of our breath away by how on top of everything she was with a friendly smile to boot. I love the cowgirl taco here and would love to come here more often if the service weren't so spotty. Claire totally restored our faith. She was there when we needed her, refilled our water like crazy, and was funny too! When we asked for our check she said in total Terminator style, "I'll be back." So many bonus points for that. She split our checks without us asking too, though we didn't need it, it was a nice gesture.We are all in the industry and felt her so refreshing for Linda's and the city of Seattle in general. This is a Seattle Icon. However, know this. It is a true Dive-Bar! Complete with a Moose head on the wall. Weather it be for brunch, or a night out with your friends! Always a good time! Their outside patio is what truly gives this bar its rating. Probably one of the most unique patios in Seattle, (And very big). Its like being in a friends backyard, only there are servers to wait on you! Great mix of music that will always keep the night going. Another great spot for people watching. I've been to Linda's once before. My experience was pleasant and the veggie sandwich I had was quite delicious but I found no appealing qualities of Linda's to compel me to go there again. I found myself there once more on an early Thursday evening for a pal's birthday get together. At about 4:30p.m. on a Thursday, Linda's was fairly empty. No complaints from me there since the last time I stepped foot in the joint it was packed to the rim. The absence of hipsters was a relief to me as well. I went up to the counter to order my beer. I choose the beer that had a St. Bernard dog's head on the tap. The barkeep pulled down the lever and my cup was full of foam. It was keg changing time but I told her to switch my beers because I didn't feel like waiting for a cold one. I settled on a Hamm's. I decided to get some food and browsed the menu. I immediately found the nachos and decided to get those. Being the nacho lover that I am, I am willing to try them once anywhere. You get the option of having regular ol' meat chili or vegetarian chili. I got my cow free and waited for them to come. About 10 minutes later I get my nachos which are loaded with multi-colored chips and loaded with beans. I dug and was disappointed. The chips had no flavor and the beans were missing some spices. I didn't even finish the nachos which is sacrilegious to me. I can't remember the last time I didn't finish a meal. As the night drew on it began to get crowded signaling it was time to go. I don't get to Capitol Hill often, which is one thing I often regret because it means I'm missing out on places that are as fun and great as Linda's. Honestly, I'd never ever heard of the place and had to Yelp it pre-visit to read up on the food, the drinks, and to find out where the heck it was! Happily, the place was pretty darn good. The patio is fantastic! I was surprised to see that it even existed - it's like a little oasis in the middle of Capitol Hill. It was a fairly warm evening and it was really nice to just be out there, chatting with friends and chomping on french fries. Speaking of the french fries - SO GOOD. They reminded me a little bit of Dick's fries, which means they MUST be decent because Dick's fries are my absolute favorite. The cheese fries are good too, but the plain ones are where it's at. Plenty of salt and just the right amount of grease. Our waitress was quite attentive, which was a pleasant surprise considering the number of people out on the patio. She got us everything we needed and was friendly and nice while doing so. Happy hour runs until 9pm (at least on Saturdays!), so try to get in there and save a few bucks. One downside is that it got VERY crowded later in the night. It seemed like the people checking IDs were letting every single person come inside, which made for a lot of cramped space and a huge line at the bar. Luckily I'd got my fill of drinks earlier in the evening, plus we'd managed to grab two tables on the patio around 8:30pm! I'd recommend this place. I get up to SEA every couple months and last time I was at Linda's there was a distinctly bridge and tunnel elment happening. What?! I've only come here a couple times to drink, but for post-drinking weekend brunch Linda's hits the spot. The biscuits and mushroom gravy are awesome and totally filling, double-awesome when you're hung over and looking to please your stomach. The nowboy taco is good, make sure you've got a side or such if you have an appetite. The tofu scramble is my third choice but it doesn't compare to the scramble that the Globe used to have before the death of the menu. I'd recommend a side with the scramble as well if you're hungry. Of course, there's meaty fare here as well. I wouldn't know about that. The service has always been friendly, albeit a little sporadic at times. Today the coffee kept coming and coming which is always important. This place is good for groups when they aren't busy as there's lots of tables to slide together in the upper eating area. Discovering a good ol' greasy breakfast on the weekends at Linda's has made my life complete. Truly, what else could a girl ask for? Not only is it close by - it's DOWN HILL (very important to this yelper ;)) - and I can get a pitcher of Mimosas for $15 and the best bloody mary on Capitol Hill - in my humble opinion - for a very reasonable price!! Get the "Buffalo Mary" instead and enjoy your drink with a LARGE stick of buffalo jerky...mmmm...(if maybe a leetle heavy!). Don't get omelettes here and definitely go for the Huevos Rancheros, Cowboy Taco and Linda's Really Special. The Blue Corn Migas are super tasty, too! Food is okay, the patio is crowded if there is a glimmer of sunlight, its hard to get a place to sit after 6pm. It gets loud. The bathrooms are usually pretty gross. Plus, who can go wrong with a 7-9 p.m. happy hour? You get a range of capitol hill people at this bar. It's a Hipster Divey Bar with taxidermy on the walls and old west paintings. their Mac n' Cheese with bacon was great with a bread crumb topping and everything looked good for their style of cooking. Possibly the shiniest star in the Linda's universe is their brunch. I call it "hangover brunch" because... I always want their brunch when I'm hungover? And guess why? Someone said in their review that, "Linda's fit them Iike a pair of worn Chucks". I own a pair of Chucks and if they ever fit like the service I received they would be in the trash. The service was my main complaint. It took at least 10 minutes to be seated in what look like an empty house. We watched as the servers walked by looking in out direction. The bartender did the same thing. I wasn't expecting first class treatment, but a simple courtesy to let me know that someone would be right with me would've helped. Before being seated we also got snubbed by not one, not two, but three servers so that they could greet(this included hugs) there friends standing behind us. I mean could it get any worse? After almost being bypassed and some uncomfortable eye contact as to whether to seat us or their friends first we got seated. The service continued to go down hill from there. I could go on and on about all the things that went wrong while dining there, but it would take forever. There is something about waking up hung over and coming to Linda's in pajama bottoms, messy hair, and a sweatshirt, and then being seated outside on the sharpie covered lopsided picnic tables. Cool bar. Never had the food or will. Last time I was here I was pretty trashed, but I do remember it was Halloween and I was dressed as Che Guevera...AND I met Che at the bar, yup, Che. I went to pay my tab at the bar and some dude said he was Che and wanted to know if I was Fidel or Che. With the sporadic and ugly beard of course I was Che. Doode showed me his ID (although later I found out he probably wanted to show me something else). Yup, product of hippie parents named this child Che. He then gave me his Che wristband which was a queue for my friends to pull me away. Me has bad gaydar, I thinks peoples have the best intentions. I come here often! I wish it was bigger! If you're arriving after 9pm on a weekend, I wouldn't come if you hope to sit, but we usually just try to arrive a little earlier and we can get a table. It's best in the summer since they also have the outside area. I really love that they have waiter service which comes to the tables. They have always been pretty attentive (for a bar) which I really appreciate. The food definitely isn't anything to write home about, but it's bar food! It is acceptable. I hit up Linda's last night, expecting to arrive just in time for happy hour at 5:30. Well, for whatever reason, Linda's happy hour does not begin until 7pm. While this could have been advantageous had I known in advance, my ignorance of their unorthodox practices left me paying full price for my booze. Nevertheless, I had an enjoyable time chillin' out max and relaxin' all cool on the back patio. I would like to emphasize the cool and the chillin' as once the sun went down, the outdoor setting got a might nipply. Unfortunately, none of the staff bothered to turn on the gas heaters until one of the guests, obviously delirious with cold, got up and started messing with the propane tank. I ordered a couple of Guinness and the meatloaf. The service was friendly and reasonably quick at first, though once we began eating, the waitress became more scarce. The meatloaf was tasty, with big chunks of onion, but it was one of the crumbliest meatloaves I have ever eaten. Also, they were mighty stingy on the mashed potatoes. If I had known I was only going to get a wee dollop, I would have asked them to substitute the other veggies (evil broccoli and filthy, vile zucchini) for a double helping of spuds. read more

In our attempt to drink less, we told ourselves that we would withhold from drinking for the night. At least, that was before we found out that Linda's Tavern served our beloved Ninkasi Total Domination IPA on draft. For over the past year, while going to school at the University of Oregon, we had fallen in love with the beers that the local Ninkasi Brewing Company produced and it saddened us that Seattle had not yet picked up on the trend, or at least that was what we believed. Though a bit sad that they did not have the Ninkasi Tricerahops Double IPA on draft, we hope that some of the other seasonal beers from the brewing company will make its way up to Linda's Tavern in the following months. Our group was here for a going away celebration and it was surprising to witness the sudden influx of people that made their way to the outdoor area at the rear of the bar after happy hour. Though a bit hectic during the later hours, especially if you do not make it outside, we are likely to make another visit until we find another bar with Ninkasi on draft. Really really fun and simple dive bar. Badass outside patio with a separate smoking section. (I'm a former smoker so I thought this is great for smokers) The employees are really cool and easy to talk to. It's just a fun place to go to and kick back with a beer! :) Also, I'm pretty sure it's one of the longest running dive bars in Seattle!! My fiance and I come to this place at least once a month. I want to emphasize this is the type that has breakfast/brunch options all day. We come here for Sunday brunch, when we have had a long night of partying, or a long weekend. We love the bloody mary's, it's like an appetizer because of the several garnishes on that drink, like celery, green beans, olives, a carrot, and if you get the Buffalo Mary, its a huge piece of buffalo jerky. My fiance loves it every time. We have tried a great variety on the menu and have never been disappointed. The last particular time, we had the huevos rancheros and the eggs benedict. The huevos were awesome. It contained two crispy tortillas, which were used to separate the poached eggs and the chili with the cheese. It was topped with salsa and served with a side of sour cream and hash browns. I ate every bit, it was so good. They provide basic condiments on the table and all I had to add was hot sauce. The fiance ordered the eggs benedict, which were english muffins that had ham and poached egg with the hollandaise sauce. Served with hash browns. This was yummy as well, and they were topped with cayenne pepper. This is not a fancy place, its a casual atmosphere, you can come in your PJs and still blend in. Went to Sunday brunch per recommendation and we were not disappointed. The food is delicious and generous at a reasonable price. Rio Grande Scramble was perfect. But more impressive was the service; we sat and ate at the bar, where the Bartender was attentive, courteous, well mannered, and extremely polite... the man did his job so well that - for me, it stood out more than the food.
