I'm been coming to Lindy's for over 50 years. The original location on archer and western (closed) was a favorite of my grandfather and father and of course me. I prefer their dream meal combo, I get the cheeseburger and chili no beans with a nice slice of raw onion. You can get your chili with it without bean and with or with Mac, creamette style noodles not spaghetti. The meal come with either burger, cheese burger, dog or polish. Chili is very mild but they have a rack of hot sauces. Fresh cut fries add to the meal with crisp tastey fries. The location is old school soda shop feel, all booths, and a nostalgic feel. You seat yourself and the service is fast and friendly, you don't wait long for your food or ice cream treats. They have Gertie's ice cream shop too. Chili places are rare here, so get in and try it so it'll be around a bit longer, you won't regret it. read more

This was a childhood staple for me, so when I learned there were 2 locations still open, this one and the one off South Pulaski in Chicago, I had to relive the taste and smell. The usual waitress always presents service with a smile. Today's waitress resembles more of fatigue. Our current food was mediocre, at best. They also have a television for the dining area. For the adults, they have slot machines as entertainment. They have plenty of merchandise for sale. Overall Thoughts: A simple but lengthy trek from Chicago (orange line to Midway then bus), my friends and I initially didn't intend to dine here but stumbled in after the spot we originally had in mind was closed. We were glad we came though-- the vibes were chill, and the staff were so kind and friendly. The food is pretty standard diner / fast food grub, and tasted good. The prices are affordable too, and the portions are large. If I lived in the area, I would probably stop by more often with friends as a chill hangout spot to grab a quick bite or milkshake. It had tons of flavor and nice textures. - Polish Sausage Dream Meal (4.2/5): The polish sausage as quite good-- I prefer its coarser texture and smokier flavor over a traditional hotdog. This is one of a number of locations of the merged Lindy's (classic chili that originally opened in 1924) and Gertie's (classic super rich ice cream that originally opened in 1901). There are about a half-dozen of these outlets (they have now gone to a franchising program) around the greater Chicagoland area with most of them within Chicago city limits. Each in their own right used to be well-known in Chicago for their specialty ... and the merging of two Chicago classics in 1974 has not hurt them. In the hunt for a sweet we visited this location, and we were not disappointed. Old-fashioned ice cream (not soft-serve) served in a classic ice cream dish. The number of offerings will boggle your mind ... all the way from a simple scoop of one flavor to the multi-scoop specials. They offer sundaes, sodas, phosphates, shakes, banana splits, and more ... and that's just the Gertie's side. Lindy's offers more of a full dining menu with their chili ... appetizers, sandwiches, hamburgers, polish sausage, etc. Inside had a nice ambiance, old-fashioned table service. They also do carry-out, but I'd stick to the dine-in stuff where you have fewer errors. We visited for the ice cream, but we'll return to have the chili. Recommended. read more

Great service and just like I remember on the food from when I was a kid. The chili and chocolate malt never changed- still yummy! Also tried the mozzarella sticks-glad I did. This is the best ice cream sundae I have ever tasted. The hot fudge is perfect in sweetness and they make their own whipped cream that will keep you coming back again and again. I love their burgers here also and they are so inexpensive! Service varies on the day you come and who the server is. I've had slow service and attentive service, so one never knows. The ambiance is happy and playful with stuffed animals everywhere and an abundance of decorations for the holidays to bring you in a festive mood. I ordered the hamburger meal it was a little over $11 and came with hand cut fries, a cup of chili and a drink. I will say this the chili was absolutely delicious. It was probably the best chili I think I've ever had. I ordered mine without beans and I really loved it. The hamburger was pretty good and they give you a lot of fries. They got my order wrong so I called. I only live 15 away so I get in my car to go over there and a woman called me back and argued with me that they only got my fries wrong and not the rest of my order. Then when I get there and tell them "hey I just had a confrontation on the phone and she says I'm lying about my order" and I swear to god this woman's answer was "oh sorry about that"... The ice cream here was delicious! We were looking for some dessert after lunch at Kabul Kabob and walked across the street to this gem. It's an old school diner feel and they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The shakes were good too, but the cup of chocolate ice cream was a delicious classic. I orders my food and they gave me fries instead of the chipi I ordered The cashier made a mistake when putting my order thru and she rang fries even though I ordered chili ! I called and she said come now to get chili so I did but since I had to drive all the way back I asked her to remake my burger so I could eat all my food together hot. I was gonna give them the cold burger and fries back so I could get the burger and chili made at same time. They refused told me to call the police to get my order corrected. What a waist of police resources. Went to the speaker box in the drive through and a young lady took our order. A burger, fries and two chocolate shakes, pretty simple order.... go to the window and the (maybe high school) girl looks at us with a blank stare in her face, and asked what our order was again.... she didn't write it down the first time and struggled to write it down again as we waited her to stop her giggle fit. She kept leaving the window and failed to take our simple order. We ended up just driving away and settling on Andy's down the street. The main reason for this review, last week we stopped again just for shakes. It was 10:30 aand the girl behind thE window said they were closed when they clearly close at 11. Lindy's is my absolute favorite place to get ice cream. Their sundaes are delicious, but the staff not so friendly. The last time I visited Lindy's I ordered a hot fudge sundae with chocolate ice cream. The waitress brings the sundae, but with vanilla ice cream. I told her that I had asked for chocolate ice cream, not vanilla. Instead of making me a new one with the flavor I had asked for, she responded rudely insisting that I said vanilla. When I repeated that I asked for chocolate, she rolled her eyes and snatched the sundae. After her unnecessary sass and arguing, I finally received the sundae I wanted. read more

In the parking lot of a Tony's Finer Foods in Bridgeview sits a small restaurant touting Lindy's chili. Having been told by a friend in the area that they have hot dogs, I decided to stop by and give them a try. To my surprise this is not a typical greasy spoon diner but is in fact a restaurant with waiter/waitress service. My friend and I placed our order and in shortly thereafter a cup of chili was brought out to us as we waited for the hot dog. First off, let me go over the chili. The chili here was not particularly spicy but had a very nice well defined flavor. There was a good amount of meat in it, a lot of beans and no sign of peppers. The chili was thick and flavorful, I found this to be very good chili without being over the top with strange ingredients or weird peppers. Eventually the hot dog arrived. This was a skinless dog on a regular Chicago style poppy seed bun. It had two hamburger style pickles on it, slices of tomato, nicely chopped up onion and mustard. There was no sign of celery salt or hot peppers on this dog. The unusual pickle slices were quite a bit different than the usual long cut of a pickle found on a Chicago style hot dog. The sausage used here was skinless and by the taste I'm guessing was either a Hebrew National or a Best Kosher dog rather than a Vienna Beef or Red Hot Chicago as is commonly found throughout the area. Overall this was a solid place to try a hot dog, though a bit pricey. The hot dog came with fries and a cup of chilli for around 6.00. I'd say it was a well above average hot dog with excellent chili and would recommend visiting Lindy's if you happen to be in the area. I'll give this place four stars. read more

I-scream, you scream, we all scream for Lindy's and Gertie's!! To say I love this place is an understatement!! Although I do not discredit the quality of a chain franchised ice cream shop, I have a soft spot (not to mention sweet tooth) for old fashioned mom and pop ice cream parlors. There's just something about those places that makes your heart filled with a special kind of joy that's really indescribable- it's a level of comfort that franchised ice cream parlors cannot get their fingers on. QOn our way home from hickory hills- my fiancé and I stopped to enjoy a moment to ourselves and enjoy some ice cream. When you walk into Gertie's, you're automatically welcomed with a homey and loving feeling. They have those rather old fashion food booths accompanied with plenty of stuffed animals on the walls. The music was the finished touch- it just takes you back to a time when life was easier and walking to get ice cream after dinner was a ritual. It just reminds you of the small things in life that make up a big picture. I just loved the inviting and pleasant environment. It was slightly awkward because when you walk in, it says please seat yourselves but we just wanted to order ice cream to eat outside of the establishment since they had outside sitting. We ordered a banana split to be shared together and we took it to eat outside. I think there may have been some confusion because our waitress brought out our banana split container in a brown paper bag and the banana split just looked completely mashed together. It may not have looked aesthetically pleasing but let me just tell you, it was amazing! I haven't tasted a strawberry flavor like that in a long time- it was creamy, rich and very flavorful. The vanilla was good too but the chocolate- wow! They don't make them that rich or delicious anymore. I was sooooo happy that we stopped by and tried the ice cream. I love this place! Me and my boyfriend come here every time we want to good out for a good priced, delicious dinner. I would never hesitate to recommend this place to everyone. The prices are good for 2 people we always leave spending $20 or less even with ice cream. I love the staff here so nice and it is always the same people so you get to know them. I love their chilli. I order it without beans because I do Keto. I add other ingredients like, salsa, hot sauce, cheese and sour cream.

We gave my inlaws a list for their 50th anniversary dinner and they chose Lindy's & Gertie's in Bridgeview. I was wondering if they would live up to the memories of the last time I was there... it's been a few years. I was very happy. Not only was the food extremely good, they added new and exciting items. I had a chili dog because I absolutely love their chili. I also love that you can have it a dozen different ways too. The hot sauce wall is intriguing. I might try that next time with the chicken sliders ( but I digress ). We had to save room for the icecream because that's what most people come for right? They have a great variety and the presentation is FABULOUS! They met and exceeded my expectations and that is not easy to do! read more

If you want good classic food, try this place! Very good service and food! The service is not bad, when it's busy, they go faster than you think. The waiter takes a while for a small place like this. They are still friendly and nice. They always help. The food is excellent, same as the drinks. For my drink I always have a good Green River, which is popular to my family (I'm not Irish). They go quick with the food. I had the chicken parm sandwich. The chicken was well cooked. The bun was unique for a sandwich like that. The marinara was a little messy, but still very good. The mozzarella is good too. The ice cream is rich, creamy, and fantastic. It is one of the main reasons why I come to Gerties. A s'mores sundae is what I get. Graham crackers are good. The chocolate ice cream is good. They have a small cookie, which is good. Cherry is good with the good whipped cream. Overall: Fabulous food. Ice cream and food are great! The stuffed animals are good decoration to the restaurant. I have a t-shirt for this place. It's not the pepper one, but the one that shows Chicago.
