You know what, this place kicks some ass for an ice cream fix when you are in the SW burbs. It is located at the front of a shopping mall. It is my opinion that the closing of the movie theater and the pool hall seemed to negatively impact the business here. I really don't eat much ice cream, or many sweets for that matter but whenever I get that crave, that urge, this is the place that will always satisfy it for a while. The staff here is always helpful and friendly and I like the old fashioned , retro feel to the place. What really impresses me is that the prices here are not bad at all. For what you get, it is definitely worth it. they have your typical lunch, dinner menu that you would expect. Basically a roomier and livelier version of the Lindy's in Mt. Greenwood. It's decorated with a bunch of stuffed animals and shit so bring your young ones and maybe they wont scream their heads off and actually behave while I try to enjoy my peaceful meal. The food doesn't taste any different. Which is a good thing because it means it's consistent at each location. I opted for a greasy 1/4 lb burger with a cup of chili on the side. As always, it was very satisfying. Because chili is one of the few things I know how to make at home, I don't really choose chili when dining out. But when I do, it's pretty much automatic. It was a cold winter night and I needed some chili to ward off the chills. I've seen Lindy's in several areas in town and I thought I'd just stop in and give it a shot. This particular one is located in an area with several struggling strip malls in a changing neighborhood, the intersection of 87th and Harlem. Now I dabble in chili competitions and there is a characteristic flavor profile that competition chili has, and Lindy's has captured it. I had a bowl of chili, no beans with onions. These guys kind of overdid it with the onions so I had to scoop some of it out, almost a cup of diced onion for crying out loud. Next time I just skip the onions. Chili itself was delicious, best I've had coming out of a restaurant. Followed it up with some Gerties Ice Cream, I kept it simple, one scoop vanilla. They make all sorts of malts and sundaes if you want that. They also have Filberts Root Beer. The restaurant would definitely be classified as "family friendly". They have all these stuffed animals on the windows which would certainly have most parents reaching for the ritalin once those kids get all hyper from the ice cream and root beer. Restaurant itself is kind of small, almost cramped. Service is a touch slow. I would definitely come back, but only for the chili. read more

Had chili with no beans, the best chili ever. It had some kick to it, not iniatially but after a few spoonfulls, i started feeling the hotness in the back of my mouth, which is how i like it. I've tasted the pistschio-almond ice cream, it was pretty good. I also sampled the chocolate and rocky road. Overall i think their ice cream is above average, and slightly better than the cold stone or oberweiss franchise but easier on the wallet. read more

The point is that I love Lindys chili/food and love Gerties ice cream as the taste and price is pleasing. This Bridgeview location is more like a bar which is always fun (especially for the kids). I had my 2 scoop ice cream usual but the mini-skirt girly was kinda cheap on the serving which was very disappointing. At Gerties they usually know what you want even when you mime it, so it makes me think that the mini-skirt girly didn't know the flavors or didn't understand my english. Ordered delivery. Used to order from here when I worked. They have the MOST amazing fries. And still do. The hand-cut fries arrived hot and fresh. One of their specialties is chili. The service here was absolutely terrible. I mean highly rude as well. When we walked into the restaurant the atmosphere was very nice actually me and my family thought it was going to be a good place to eat. We sat down because the sign said sit where you want so we did that. We waited for ten minutes to be served while everyone else around us was being served. My dad after 10 minutes got up and asked one of the workers if we can get some service and with a big attitude the older lady said the waitress will be there in a minute. We waited and still no one came to our table. So we got up and left and while we were leaving the waitress said okay with again another attitude. You can even order up the chili for parties It is available in 5lb party bucket up to a 55 gallon drum. Have some beer and blast away. After the chili you need to have Gertie's ice cream. This place is awesome! When I come in I feel transported back in time. It makes me think this is what it must have been like to go to a burger joint back in the 50's or 60's before everything was processed and thrown together. It's obvious they care about their food and their customer service. There is always a smiling face here to greet you. The food never disappoints the chili is the star of the show but let's not forget the burgers hotdogs and fries. They are always fresh and delicious, classics, no fuss. I'm not a chili man, but I'm told that there chili is great as always. I am however an ice cream lover since the original gerties opened In chicago at 59th and kedzie . I Find that this new gerties in Tinley park Is nothing compared to the original gerties ice-cream. There chocolate Malts used to be thick and full of there homemade ice cream. Also their was a wafer cookie. The Tinley Park gerties malts tasted thin and watery. They are a big disappointment to me. And I will never go there again.They don't deserve to have gertie's name. This place is sooooo unprofessional. I ordered food from them w/ delivery and when I got my food, I wasn't what I payed for. When I called back The lady told me there was nothing she could do and hung up in my face. I was soo pissed. when I went to them and picked up my food, and the lady seen me, then she wanted to apologized, by then it was too late. We always come here for desserts, shakes etc. So tasty... employees can be rude and impatient though which is unfortunate. Twice we stopped in around 9:30pm, they close at 10 and they were really upset... I guess we gotta get there hour or more before they close. Very stern voices, eyes rolling and just rude. As an update to my last post, one of the owners decided to contact me privately here on Yelp, complaining to me about the bad review I left, continuing with the same unprofessional behavior his wife presented to me in person, blaming me, for not reading the menu. I was treated horribly when I was questioning the high price of my bill, and immediately met with hostility from the owner, and my bad experience continues as months later, her husband has harassed me on Yelp. He's informed me, he also owns the restaurant on Archer, and I thanked him, as now I will avoid that location as well. His last statement to me was "Next time read the menu and think before you open your mouth! ! !" Real nice, huh? Well, I thought this time, and now I open my mouth to let people know, if you have a bad experience at either of their restaurants, and post about it here, expect a private message with continued harassment from the owners of these locations.
