I had the cows on mushrooms sandwich, unfortunately standard not magic mushrooms, but that would be a bit much for lunch anyway. Came with perfectly cooked French fries, a pickle, and a roasted chili Dolores, and I got iced tea. Price was very reasonable Sandwich was 9.95 and with the iced tea and tax a bit over 13 bucks. Food was outstanding and the customer service was excellent. The lovely young waitress from UNM was super, my Iced Tea never got less than half full. The bartender/server Steve was a real gem! He kept us coming back all week long. The service was excellent and loved the green chile cheeseburger. So, I'm not sure if being a little (reads overly) intoxicated skews my review but I quite enjoyed my breakfast burrito at 2 AM. The server had a little rockabilly look going on and she was very friendly and attentive. Even though she was dealing with tables upon tables of drunkards. My burrito was good. Eggs, potatoes, chile, cheese. She recommended the spicy green chile and it hit the spot. BUT...the best thing about my meal was the hashbrowns. I love potatoes and these were some darn good hashbrowns. I couldn't stop talking about them for at least three days. Very very good. We just stumbled in here to eat breakfast with our kids while on vacation. The food was great. We liked it so much we may make another trip to downtown to go here. 1 star = Terrible. Multiple things went wrong. Never going back. 2 star = Not good. I will not go back, but it wasnt absolutely awful. 3 star = Good, not great. I wouldnt go out of my way, but I *would* go back. 4 star = Excellent food. I really liked it. I could be a regular here. 5 star = Phenomenal food. Something truly special here. Staying at the Hyatt, and there wasnt much open on Central on a Sunday, so I ended up at Lindy's. I got the app combo (onion rings, fried mushrooms and mozz sticks) and the chicken quesadillas. These were all from frozen -- the rings and shrooms were pretty good, but the mozz was just luke warm in the middle. The quesadillas were very good -- the green chile was a nice flavor, although the cheese wasnt high quality. The service was fine. Based on my 3 meals in ABQ so far, my conclusion is that in this area the food options arent super great. bRgR was head and shoulders above the other 2 places I have tried. Went in for Sunday lunch/brunch. There were a few other tables of customers, and one greeter/waiter. We were seated, and our drink orders were taken right away and drinks were delivered promptly. The trouble started when the waiter didn't write down our order. They repeated everything back to clarify as though committing the order to memory, and came back once to ask which meat we had ordered for the quesadilla starter. When my food came, I had been brought boneless wings instead of traditional. The waiter apologized profusely and said they had originally put it in as traditional and then second-guessed it. We noticed afterwards that she used a notepad for other customers after that, so hopefully she learned from the experience. I think she was embarrassed because she hardly came back to check on us the entire time, only asking my husband if he needed his tea refilled once. The food was all fine, although I spent most of the meal picking breading off the chicken because I don't send food back to the kitchen as a rule. Probably won't be back soon, which is a shame as the ambiance is great in that old building with the coffered ceiling and they were playing great music. read more

This place is just good all-around. It's not very pricey but the food is definitely tasty. The customer service is delightful especially for a downtown location. I ended up getting a chicken fried steak that I found to be very good. It was obviously made in house which was good. Also I like the good portion of mashed potatoes and gravy that came with it. I have only been here twice, and both times I was very satisfied. I got the burger that has an over-easy egg on top of the pattie and that was more than enough to satisfy my hunger. The burger was cooked medium and it was correct to what I expected it to be. My only wish is that Lindy's would stay open late at night so the bar crowd (which includes myself) could enjoy the late night fix. It's kind of a drag that the only food establishments that are open on the late night weekends downtown are ONLY food trucks, which can be an inconvenience since you have no tables to sit anywhere and you are forced to eat standing up. Lindy's would have so much more business if they were open late at night on the weekend. Please consider it! I am still a fan either way! :) read more

Yelp needs a Meh 1/2 rating. First, let me say I wasn't expecting much. And that's what I got. So my expectations were met. The place does have a nostalgic feel of the 50's-60's diner. Red cushion booths, long diner counter and round stools. The place wasn't packed at lunch time, but it was occupied by customers. I felt like I was the kid in the joint as everyone was 10 to 20yrs older than me. And I'm not young either. The food was meh 1/2. I had the green chili cheese burger with fries. The fries were rank, dry and over cooked. The burger was no better than BK whopper. But the waitress was nice and probably a hottie back in the day. She made sure I had everything I needed. What was odd to me was the music in the background. I think of diners as playing 50's music... old classics. But when I heard Van Halen's JUMP and A-ha's TAKE ON ME, I realized I AM an old fart. These were hip when I was in my teens. Now they're considered oldies but goodies. Fuck. 20 years from now, Lady Gaga will be considered the oldies. FUCK. read more

Lindy's is OK in my book. It's an Albuquerque staple, and I am not sure of the recent run of bad reviews. I had breakfast or lunch (I mean, it's a diner - I am supposed to) and it was fantastic. One of my dining partners had a $5 shake (I don't really know if it was a $5 shake and it wasn't called Amos n Andy either, but it was a damn good $5 shake, just the same) said shake also led to a lengthy discussion and an adrenaline shot to the heart later in the day. Well, really it was a 5 hour energy, but whatevs. Anyway, food was great. Had the Cowboy breakfast - a chicken fried steak like a diner should serve, hashbrowns like at a truckstop (in a good way), and toast that was an inch thick. Bathrooms were clean. Met the owner, Steve - good guy, runs a good business. Also, they have beer again, maybe not on tap, but certainly in the bottle. read more

My second meal in Albuquerque, like my first, was disappointing. The hubby was looking for breakfast and I wanted a salad. Unfortunately, the big salads - all three of them - did not sound appetizing at all. So, I chose a grilled chicken sandwich and a dinner salad. The chicken was a little on the dry side and absolutely tasteless. It did come with cheese and bacon (which had an odd taste). The lettuce, tomato and onion was on the side. There was no dressing of any kind, which probably enhanced the dryness. The dinner salad was nothing special and the ranch dressing was obviously not homemade. The fries were okay. The hubby had eggs, sausage and hash browns. He said it was okay - a place you would only eat at if nothing else is open. On a positive note, the waitress was nice. She refilled our drinks without being reminded. Note: the menu says only one refill on soda and coffee. However, the hubby had three cups of coffee and was not charged extra. The restaurant was empty when we walked in around 7pm on a Sunday. By the time we left an hour later, it was full. The menu seems good. Lots of burger options, Greek options. The Greek salad was pretty good. Although, I specifically ordered the salad without olives, and it came with - you guessed it - olives. :( I also ordered a reuben (which, in the menu, stated it came with swiss cheese, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing) with turkey instead of corned beef. Dinner came - with corned beef reuben, swiss (??) cheese, an orange piece of American cheese, loads of sauerkraut, imitation-thousand island dressing. I sent it back to get the turkey I had requested the first time. I took one bite, and realized the entire thing tasted like sour cardboard. No I haven't eaten cardboard, but what I imagine cardboard to taste like. My friend ordered a BLT with a fried egg, and it came without the egg. The bathrooms were filthy - have they ever been cleaned? On the positive side, our waiter was very friendly (the only waiter in the restaurant), and the restaurant itself was pretty clean. They advertise taps, but apparently they have been without a liquor license for years; the owner refuses to remove them (according to the waiter). At the end of the meal, the waiter offered to take off the price of my salad. I told him I would prefer he take off the price of the sandwich. He decided not to charge me for anything. The food was not all the issue. The staff was unprofessional and an embarrassment to all who work in the restaurant industry. The cook was lazy. Our waiter was so overly enthusiastic and wanting to be helpful that he made a fool of himself. This is a hard review to write. I do my best to support local businesses, and have given Lindy's several chances, but their continued poor customer service and bland food have me thinking it's time to nudge them towards some improvements, or nudge other diners towards better restaurants. First off, when I walked in, I was left standing around trying to figure out whether or not to seat myself. Several staff members walked past me in this time (1-2 minutes) and none of them offered any direction. I chose to sit down at the lunch counter, which was dirty. After being ignored for several minutes- as one of only five diners in the place- my order was taken. My burger was uninspiring, and the fries were unpalatable. The proprietress seemed majorly checked out, and, in general, my dining experience sucked. Would that I could say that this was a one-time occurrence, but I have had similar experiences the two other times (spread out over as many years) that I've given Lindy's my business. After asking around once I returned to work, I found that many of my coworkers have had similar experiences, and we all wondered how it is that the place stays in business. How indeed? read more

I was in the area for business and nothing around my hotel was open for breakfast so I decided to walk down Central Ave & found this place. The owner/cook was nice enough to open the door before their actual opening time. He made me feel welcome and offered to cook fast since I was in a hurry. The food is your typical diner food but what I truly appreciated about this place is the décor. They've got some retro signs that are funny and they will keep you entertained while you eat your food. The service was stellar and everyone was very friendly. I would encourage business in the area to open a little early in case there are conferences in town and people staying in nearby hotels want breakfast. read more

We go in and see a mostly empty restaurant. After awkwardly standing there for awhile a girl tells us from the back of the room to sit where we want. We head towards the back and sit at a large booth with a sticky table. We sit next to some guys playing poker who we find out later were the cooks. The girl comes to take our order. She seems indifferent and disinterested we tried to order a tamale plate but were informed they just ran out of the last batch strike one. Instead we order a enchilada plate, a Texas burger, chips and salsa, and chile cheese fries. While we waited we got to see some pretty unsavory things. We got to see a staff member taking some selfies, texting, incredibly slow service, and horrible horrible wardrobe malfunctions! Honestly, I will cut you a break for texting and selfies but you are in a professional place! Do not come to work with unflattering summer tops with parts of you hanging out. When you go eat out with your family you want to see waitstaff looking clean, kept, and sharp! It's very unfortunate to see parts bouncing out of the clothes. If I were a manager, I would have sent that individual home so quickly. I think maybe a dress code of sorts is in order because it appears that anything goes. Beside all that the bell was rang several times, we see our food, our food saw us! We were so close yet so far away! Many minutes later our food finally comes. The chips and salsa were delicious! I can still taste the tang of the salsa on my tongue! The chile cheese fries were pretty delicious too! I typically prefer to eat cheese sauce on my fries, but I didn't at all mind their shredded cheese. The burger was quite tasty as well! However, after this flow of good news I must head to the bad. The enchilada plate... The beans were hard, the enchilada was stiff (mainly hard as well), and the tomatoes were rotten! When the girl finally decided to come check on us again all the food was gone except for the ickiness of the enchilada plate. How was the food she asks? Well the tomatoes were rotten on the enchilada plate (and she could obviously see it pretty untouched) "oh I'm sorry" she says and she walks away. There was no, would you like to try something else or can I take this off your ticket just oh I'm sorry as she walks away. This girl has a lot of customer service training needed. It's just the fact of the matter. So tips to the restaurant: Keep it clean. There are many staff members available to make sticky tables sparkle! Maybe enforce a dress code. Inform waitstaff rotten tomatoes aren't normal. Check the bathroom the entire hour or longer that we were there, there were no paper towels in the men's or women's restrooms and the soap was out in the men's bathroom. Maybe we went on a bad day. Upon entering the establishment I noticed how not busy it was which was convenient for us. I then noticed that a few tables were not cleaned. Where was the attention to detail? No rush in a restaurant means checking and re-checking tables are bussed floors are swept How are we supposed to know who is an employee? I did not see anyone in anything resembling a uniform. Our server was clearly undertrained. Our order was taken but when it was taken there was nothing written down and my lady's meal wasn't prepared the way we had specificied. I thought writing a customers order down was standard practice in restaurants. Now My food wasn't bad at all I enjoyed it. The problem is the lack of training in the serving staff. I don't blame the server because I had to ask for silverware when our meals were presented, I don't blame the server for not checking on us and I don't blame the server for the 10 dead flys in our windowsill. I blame the leadership. No attention to detail. Complacency. No pride in their presentation. But hey my food was good. read more
