Went to Lindy's this past Monday around 3 pm. The place was crowded, so we put our name in, asked to sit at the bar and was told there were 4 parties ahead of us. No big deal. Walked up to the bar and was able to get a couple of drinks after waiting for about 10 minutes...again, the place was very busy, so no problem with that. Waited outside and was seated approximately a half hour after we put our name in, so that was great...or so we thought. When we were led to our seats I could see that 2 seats at the bar opened up....WHY DIDNT I ASK FOR THOSE SEATS??? That was my bad. After waiting at least 10 minutes, our waitress Dawn came over and asked if we would like a couple more drinks. We said yes and also put in an order for calamari app. (Served with cocktail sauce, not marinara) what's up with that? Dawn came over about 10 minutes later and said they lost the slip and only made one drink, so they were making the next one. (We had Jack & coke and Jack & ginger) so I'm not sure how that happened. 20 minutes later our calamari came out...it wasn't that hot and it wasn't that good. Finally, we put our order in...15 minutes later, Dawn tells us, they ran out of steak so we change that to a bowl of chili. By this time, the 2 people who got those seats at the bar already have their meals. About a half hour later, after being in our seats for 2 hours, the people at the bar have paid and left and we still don't have our food. We told the bartender that we want to cancel our meal. Dawn comes over and apologized for the wait and says the food is coming up now....she was nice and apologetic and obviously way too busy, but we were sick of waiting. Paid our bill and left. Definitely won't be back. We would have went to Lucky Dog if it was open. read more

I really wanted to like this place more but the food was a bit of a disappointment. I still gave it 4 stars because as a BAR, it deserves 5 stars. Super friendly staff and the atmosphere was great considering how packed it was. The "prime rib" sandwich was a typical roast beef sandwich. The Strawberry Rhubarb pie had no discernible strawberry or rhubarb, just a pink gelatin...? The fries were good. read more

After reading other's reviews, I felt confident I'd like the menu and I did. I only looked at the daily specials, there were many, and there was a varied selection. I decided on the Pork Belly BLT sandwich and am glad I did. The portion of pork belly was ample and tasty. There was a choice of bread available, I chose marbled rye. My friend had a cheese burger with a side of cole slaw and she ate well. The service was pleasant and efficient. As others have stated previously, the acoustics are an issue. It IS very loud, but it didn't diminish the quality of the menu. There is outdoor seating on the deck for take out order only. Something to consider on another visit; might be more quiet. I'd recommend Lindy's, with the caution about noise only. Enjoy! read more

Very disappointed with this restaurant didn't even get to eat. My wife went up to the hostess and asked how long the wait is? and was told that there were 16 parties before her and that she didn't know! That they don't do wait times!!! How is this possible? She was also told that they don't do reservations but someone called right in front of my wife and took a reservation!! Thats bs!! Very good food! Prices are reasonable. Very busy place. We do take out all the time because my husband does not like to have to wait to sit down. When we call for takeout, they call you when your order is ready so you can go and pick it up. Depending what time you go, you may have to wait to be seated. read more

The food is great! The problem is the wait is always extremely long! My family has told me about this place since it opened. good morning to all. i have been going to lindy's tavern for years. i always have enjoyed their food in the past. i did a take out order. i don't live close and i am disabled. i bought 2 dinners. the first dinner was whole belly clams, what i received was no bellies and the clam was like chewing rubber. the 2nd dinner i bought was the fried scallop plate. the scallops were bay scallops which i like. they were over cooked and the coating on the scallops was like mush. i called several times asking to speak with the owner. no one ever called back. like i said do not live close and disabled extremely disappointed. my guest i took there was like really. i was told by richard just bring the dishes back and it would be remade. again i told him i am disabled and i do not live close. he basically told me oh well. i still would love to talk to the owner, but he does not talk to dissatisfied customers and to be honest all the people i told about lindy's. and how good it was i take it back. i can NOT recommend lindy's. last time very poor quality of food. read more

Have been wanting to try this place after hearing so many good things! Formerly a small dive housed in an old VFW hall, they recently built a brand new building to accommodate the crowds that flock there for their seafood. There's a nice parking lot and a huge deck that will make for nice outdoor seating - But we visited in January. We decided to go for lunch at an off-time and arrived about 2:30pm on a Saturday. We were told the wait was 30-40 minutes, which turned out to be an hour. We were surprised but took this as a good omen that the food was as good as we'd heard. I ordered a cup of seafood chowder, which was very good and thick with seafood, potatoes, celery and onion. My date ordered a side salad that was very nice. It was larger than most and he had to ask for another side of dressing. Our waitress was courteous and efficient. For lunch, ordered the Tuna Melt with Onion Rings. My date ordered the Turkey Club with Fries. The place was very busy but we were still disappointed to wait 30 minutes between soup/salad and the main event - especially since it was only sandwiches. My tuna melt was nicely toasted (I chose marble rye) and overstuffed with white albacore tuna that was not over dressed with mayo. It was so good that it overwhelmed the cheese, which was only slightly melted and almost undetectable, taste wise. I enjoyed the sandwich just the same and could barely finish it. The onion rings were a thing of beauty - sliced thinly with a light, crispy, not greasy batter. They were warm, but not hot, rendering them cold by the time I made it half way thru. I couldn't finish them anyway. My date's Turkey Club was very good and he was complimentary of the steak fries. His only complaint was that the bacon on his sandwich was cold - Hardly a deal breaker. We admired some of dishes being served around us, like Surf & Turf, Fish & Chips (a very generous serving of Haddock at $8.99) and other fried seafood offerings. There were several doggy bags sited, an indication of the large portions. We hope to return for dinner, hopefully without the two-hour wait that I've heard about. read more

One could say we are "regulars" here. This our go to spot. If you want great food at fair prices, look no where else. Be prepared to wait, this place is always packed because it's that good. I love the red chowder. I've been through 90% of the sandwiches, all excellent. The best Lobster Roll in Northern Rhode Island. Erica is usually our server at the Bar. Still love the food and the large menu selection. Food is great and reasonably priced. But I have to admit. We have been several times since it reopened in the old VFW Hall and the old Lindy's charm was lost. Too big, still a huge wait at times and frankly, just too loud. There is nothing to absorb the sound. So I understand if a restaurant is full and I can't hear....yeah, I get it but full or not, I can't hear a thing in Lindy's without yelling at the other people around me. I have a booming voice and certainly can cut through the chatter but still can't hear comments my wife makes during dinner. Still on the regular list for take out since the food is still delicious though! read more

By far one of my favorite spots to eat in RI! Went this past weekend, was busy but we were seated in the bar area immediately. Best White Russians around! I had the snail salad which was to die for and a cup of seafood chowder that is the best in the state IMHO! Other favorites here... lobster Mac and cheese, anything oyster related and the steak tips! I LOVE this place! The food is delicious and HUGE, the staff is amazing and the drinks are seasonal or at least they seem that way to me since I only make it here once a year or so! My last visit included a peanut butter and jelly martini and the biggest platter of fish and chips I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure it was around ten bucks, too! (Each. Let's not get crazy here.) This visit's selection was a meat pie with mashed potatoes and a wine spritzer with frozen cranberries. This was my first of both so I have no basis for comparison but I enjoyed them! We have a different server every time but they are all super friendly and quick. Whatever your little heart desires, they're on it. read more

Too Busy Small pub style restaurant in North Smithfield. The food is pretty good and is always very reasonably priced. This place specializes in mostly fried food dishes, but it does them pretty well. The issue is that the restaurant is just too busy. They may need to expand the dining room. I am a bar guy. Went to the new location. Huge, packed, rreeeaaaallllyyyyy long waits... and the noise level is insane! Food is still excellent! Staff is very good! I'm happy that they expanded and business is doing well, but I won't be back until they can do something about the noise. The ceilings are very high which doesn't help, and the bar area is a lot bigger- the noise just booms in there... maybe some plexiglass on the separating wall could help curb that? I don't know... but it didn't make the experience very enjoyable! I noticed a lot of people on tables around us yelling at each other to be heard- lots of comments in the restaurant about the noise. I will maybe go back in warmer months when we can sit outside and not get a headache! Again, I'm very excited that the business is growing- but I would recommend you go there, if you don't mind waiting, and you don't really want to talk to anyone. read more

What a great hole in the wall find, I will be back!! We had a great server, young girl and very attentive, kept checking in with my wife and I for beer, water, food, etc.... I had the Fish and Chips. ($8.99). Great size portion with hand cut fries, cooked perfectly. Wife had baked haddock, same story. great scratch made food. We were there about 4:30pm and the early birds (older folks) were there which is always a good sign. A little later the dinner crowd came in which was a really interesting mix. Not a suit and tie place if that is what you are looking for. It is a Jeans and TShirt place but I really did enjoy it. Excellent food, great servers and a nice casual place. FYI yelp has the wrong address, GPS took us a little ways down the street from where it actually is. Good thing it's only a 1 minute difference. Huge parking lot, easy parking. Went up to the doors with a guy to come storming out saying "1 hour wait" my party looks amongst each other. We go inside and are told it's a 40 minute wait. We decide to wait as we know the reviews here are 4 stars. Tables clear, other people sit. We're still waiting. Our pager never goes off. We decide as much as the food smells good, it's not worth waiting 40 minutes on an empty stomach during dinner time. I recommend doing reservations if you plan to eat dinner here. Very loud ambience too. Hopefully we get a shot to eat here next time. read more

Meh. I'll get over it. Then I had a 1 1/4lb lobster, steamers, hand cut fries And broccoli. The steaming liquid was amazingly seasoned. I Barely used the butter. And that is saying a lot. And I LOVED the fries. Thick but crispy. Amazing. Had a Blue Moon with the meal. Sorry no pix today. I ate it before I could even click. First time I was in Violin River played a few sets. I read all the reviews for this place & was excited to try it out. Then I walked in & was unsure what I would get as it just looked like your average neighborhood bar. Boy, was this a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover!" Great menu size with diverse offerings included things like ribeye, lobster, & steamers. Portion sizes were great & reasonably priced. Food was pretty darn tasty too! Onion soup was a stand out Seating area is on the small side; not too many tables. Dive-bar type of atmosphere, but definitely in a cool sort of way. They do have kids' offerings, but I wouldn't bring my kids here. Not that it's rowdy or inappropriate...just that it's unmistakably a bar atmosphere. Waitress was great; knowledgable about the menu & gave her 100% honest opinion on anything you asked. And, they were accommodating with menu substitutions without the nickel & diming you can get some places. Hubby & I will definable by back. So much more we want to try! read more

What can I say about Lindy's that hasn't already been said?!? This place is AWESOME!!! We had the best seafood that we have EVER had in RI and the prices are more than reasonable. Yes, there is a wait no matter what time of day you get there, but trust me...it's worth it! The restaurant is clean, the menu is extensive, and they have many different beers (bottled and on tap). We're ally like the new place. The menu has a lot of choices from seafood dishes to steaks and sandwiches. We all had prime rib that was a hearty portion and very tender and tasty.
