Oh my, the food was so greasy and flavorless. The Malaysian Curry dish was mixed vegetables floating in oil and congealed curry sauce-- so nauseating that I could not eat it. The fried chicken wings were over-cooked into a tough, chewy game meat. The fried rice was also over cooked and the shrimp did not taste fresh. $32 literally thrown in the trash bin. Started off with a nice greeting from gentleman at the front. THEN we got to our waiter, who, in a word, was rude and nasty. Not curt... but downright MEAN. I asked about TEA, he bit my head off that it wasn't ready yet (we arrived at their opening time of noon). Then he kept pushing us to order, when we asked if the tea was ready yet, he yelled AGAIN, and then stormed off when we said we'd need a few more minutes (much like the tea, but I digress). After about 15-20 minutes, it become obvious that now he was totally boycotting us and we would not be allowed to order. Had to get up and ask front desk.. where a woman who saw us come in responds, "Oh we didn't know anyone was sitting there!?!?!" Wait, WHAT? You saw us come in and the guy next to you told them to seat us... So we order... my friend orders her meal and I order mine and ask for a different sauce and no mushrooms. He then asks, "What else do you want?" I'm like.. does it come with anything else? He gets NASTY AGAIN and says, "No, it doesn't. I'm just ASKING what else you want to have!". Ummm... it's an entree... exactly how much of an appetite do you think I've worked up in the 20 mins since we last interacted? Food was ok. Nothing too amazing. Ours looked exactly the same although we both ordered different dishes. So they basically prepped it the same and then just tossed shrimp in hers and chicken in mine. No lunch menu on Saturdays. One big bowl of white rice for both of us. Sadly, I'm over this place. We've been here before and service was fine. Today was just abhorrent. There was no reason to treat us like that... especially since we were the only table for the first hour they were open and we were only 1 table of about 3 the whole 2 hours we were there. If you're idea of Chinese cuisine is from Iowa, then you'll love Ling Ling. I ordered the Special Noodles. Although they came quickly, they were bland and sauceless. Not an onion in sight, let alone ginger. No complexity. I also ordered Chicken with Green Beans. Same deal. And yes, these were Green Beans and not Chinese style long-beans. No one liked it, so I took it home for the dog. The next morning, it was still sitting there. I asked for a pack of Fried Noodles and was told that these were $0.50. This is our "go-to" Chinese restaurant. Always fresh, hot and fast. Crispy egg rolls, chicken fried rice and eggplant with green beans in spicy brown sauce were all top notch last time out. Never had anything less than stellar there. read more

There was a time when this was the best Chinese restaurant in the area fresh tasteful delicious but now I ordered takeout today we had pork dumplings fried rice and beef with broccoli. The pork dumplings might've been the worst I have ever tasted they were unedible and I had to throw it out they were either days old stale I don't know why but horrible. The fried rice was tasteless I don't know how that's possible because It couldn't be easier to make , the beef and broccoli was fair the noodles they gave us stale And I had to pay for them what Chinese place doesn't give you noodles complementary The mustard and the duck sauce that I asked for I had to pay for two and that taste it off this place is a disgrace and anyone who goes here beware I am thoroughly disgusted with this meal that I brought home. There are too many Chinese restaurants to go to the have to suffer through this crap what a waste of money never never never will I ever go back to this place do yourself a favor and find another place and if you think this place is good then McDonald's is your favorite store read more

Ex Customer. I have been going to Ling Ling for the 12 years that I have lived in Basking Ridge. Have had mostly good dinner experiences to date. But today I stopped in for lunch to go and asked for an extra plastic container so my wife and I could eat out our own containers and the guy wanted to charge me an extra dollar. This used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area but within the last month I have had 2 of the worst experiences with them. The first was a dine in problem. 3 other tables only and it took an hour to get most of our food. Sorry sorry was all they could say. Second time was take out last night. The food was horrible. They must have fired the lazy chef as they say. Whoever they have now should be working in a low end place if anywhere. Cold noodles were pasty and sauce was thick and slimmy. Not like it used to be. Tangerine chicken were big fat chicken pieces. Did not taste like tangerine. Beef and brocoli bad. Brocoli was way overcooked and the sauce was bland. Brown rice was cold and gummy. The price of the food is premium and not longer worth it. I shall never go again which is a shame after 10 years. read more

As a new resident from the Midwest, I neglected to review the other reviews before venturing here. Seemed to have all the bells and whistles for an authentic Chinese so we dove right in and ordered the noodle soup with chicken, hot pepper shrimp and eggplant in brown sauce as it's advertised. First warning sign: cold semi crunch fried dough with side sweet dipping sauce. Yes, 1990s must have for any Chinese. We ignored that too.. The noodle soup, tasted like bland boiled noodles made from a canned chicken stock and boiled mushrooms and vegetables. 0 taste. We loaded it up with Chinese white pepper to give it something that tastes remotely not made be our child. Pepper Shrimp: You would think it's spicy. Nope. 3 pieces of pepper in a semi large shrimp with string beans. Again, we asked for salt (mind you we don't salt at home and typically ask for low sodium, vinegar and hot sauce) - that made it somewhat ok to eat - again, it was just as bland as the chicken broth noodle soup. I am not kidding. Eggplant in brown sauce. This was a disappointment primarily since the dish came luke warm, again was as bland as the rest of the dished we ordered. Lastly and most noticeable to any Asian food eater, RICE. Cold, old, not something you should service in a mid range restaurant. The icing on the cake was the service or lack thereof. I am ok with service with attitude as long as requests or questions are answered or come back to check on you at least once. I don't fault bad service or waitstaff on the restaurant so will leave out the details on this one. So if you like the sweet fried 80s 90s Chinese food and you only eat Chinese once a season, then this is the place for you. I will rank it lowest even in Midwest scale. Sorry for venting but it was a compete disappointment and happily paid to get out quickly and never return. read more

A disaster. I have been eating Chinese food for over 50 years. This take-out food was the worst food I have ever had. Simple order; Tofu and Broccoli for my wife, no flavor, egg drop soup no flavor, pork spare ribs dry and tasteless, moo shu chicken inedible. We recently moved to the area and have heard that this is a barren wasteland for Chinese food. This restaurant does nothing to change that description. DON'T ORDER HERE OR EAT HERE!!! My order was incorrect, and when I spoke to the manager I was told that they are very busy and can't help me! The food is just so so, but I want what I paid for - the manager thinks this is unreasonable. He told me that I need to be reasonable and that he can't do anything about it, apparently being reasonable is eating something I didn't want or order. I was told, 'I have other customers here that I have to deal with and you need to stop.' It's OKAY. I've had better chinese food. I think Chu's Cafe is better than this place but it's close, fast, and at least I didn't have a major stomachache afterwards. Ling ling as a whole is a great convent place to get sone Chinese food when the mood strikes. The staff is very friendly and always very welcoming as soon as you walk in. There good I'd say is a little better than average which isn't bad. I will say there hot and sour is the best in the area hands down. A huge plus they deliver. read more

Below average in every way. Chicken and broccoli in brown sauce was swimming in grease. Moo Goo Gai Pan was especially bland and the chicken did not taste fresh. Noodle soup with chicken dumplings wasn't too bad but the dumplings looked and tasted like they came out of a box. Service was sub par too. Food here is generally very good. I think the prices are reasonable and the food tastes relatively fresh and healthy compared to other similar restaurants. The menu is very large and I really like the Chef's Specials since these options are not typically available at other chinese restaurants. Lunch menu is also great value! read more

I have been eating the same dishes at this restaurant for the last 14 years and I am sad to say after my last 2 experiences, I won't be back anytime soon. It used to be very good Chinese food with quality ingredients at a premium price. Over the last few months something has changed and they have replaced quality white meat chicken in the sesame chicken with low grade white meat chewy chicken parts. It's has become a low grade Chinese restaurant (with premium prices) that is no different then the other terrible take out Chinese restaurants near by. I am hoping that management reads this, changes their ways, and reverts back to what they did so well for so long. read more

Got take out from them several times. Everything pretty average and sometimes below average. Got cold sesame noodles for take out and a "brick" of cold noodles was in a container w/ a few shards of carrot and onion, plus 2 sauce containers of peanut sauce that was pretty thick and congealed. I pay for food but I have to assemble it and mix the ingredients? No thanks. Go a mile down to Origin Thai for excellent Thai food if one is craving Asian food in that area. read more
