Solid. Is Lisa's the best thin crust ever? No (that would be Wells Brothers), but it's absolutely very good. Pluses: + Really, really, really good Italian sausage + Nice thin, crunchy crust and not greasy (if you are my husband, you'd say that last part is a minus) + Fresh mushrooms, not slimy canned ones + Wonderfully crispy eggplant strips - again, not greasy or oily + Good sauce - not too sweet Minuses: - Wine is fairly overpriced at $8-10 for a teeny glass - They have a jukebox. You don't know "hell" until some jagoff gives a 9-year old a $5 and lets them go on a quest to play the Worst Music Ever. From "Call me maybe" to Peter, Paul and Mary (WTF, man?) they absolutely succeeded. All we were missing was the Eagles. - Service wasn't great despite only half the tables being full. She was super sweet, just a little out of her element. Overall, I liked Lisa's better than the other Eastside stalwart, Zaffiros. Having lived in Brooklyn and also near southern Connecticut, I like to think I've enjoyed some of the best 'zza in the world--yeah, Di Fara (best in the universe?) & Grimaldi's! Been a customer since 1986. There has been a change in the past 6 months or so with the pizza. The crust/cheese/sauce is phenomenal and has the same great flavor that is always has. Years ago they had small, quarter size pepperonis that would curl and hold the grease. This was awesome! I always get a sausage pizza. But lately, at least the past 3 times we have gone in 2 months, the sausage quality has dropped tremendously. Gone is the fennel tasting home made goodness that we are all used to. The sausage now tastes like frozen hamburger meat. I am not sure if this is due to the sale of the business or just a slight change for costs sake. I gave 3 visits to see if the sausage would come back and it has not. Either way, still a classic pizza place and location. Just need to work on the sausage and bring it back to its prime. read more

My FAVORITE Pizza place! I usually get the X lg Pizza Supreme and the combo platter. I love their thin crust and pizza sauce, fresh mushrooms, and great sausage. A group of friends and I went to Lisa's tonight and had a nice get together after not seeing each other for awhile. We ordered several drinks, an XL, a L, and a small pizza, as well as a few pitchers of beer. The bill was close to $300. A double shot cocktail cost $18 per drink. This is NOT Chicago, Las Vegas, or a city that thinks they can charge this amount. I understand restaurants are trying to get back money from their losses from the COVID travesty, but this is a disgusting example of taking advantage of people under the guise of COVID. The pizza was Outstanding this evening, don't get me wrong, but I'm completely disgusted with this overpricing of their drink charges. I will not be visiting their establishment again any time soon. I once thought that Zaffiro's had the best pizza in town. No longer. That title now belongs to Lisa's Fine Foods (which, bizarrely enough, everyone just calls Lisa's Pizza). I've lived in Milwaukee for twenty years and only recently discovered it. For shame. How good is it? Let's just say that I've gone three times over the past week. A few things I've realized in comparing Lisa's to Zaffiro's: 1) I prefer thin crust over cracker crust. 2) A little sweetness in the pizza sauce really makes a difference. 3) Crispy bacon on a pizza, along with sausage and onions, is the greatest thing ever. 4) Lisa's has a better wine list. I heard good things about their other foods, so I look forward to trying their lasagna and ravioli in the future. Being in close proximity to Chicago, Milwaukee gets the bum rap as their pizza establishments are overlooked. But let's be serious, does anyone REALLY like deep dish pizza? It's awful. The crust is barely noticeable, so you're basically eating a hunk of melted cheese with some pizza sauce somewhere in there along with some toppings. No thanks. Ate here this weekend with my boyfriend and his dad. Dining at Lisa's is an experience, and if I were to order food from here again, it would most likely be takeout. Here's why. Our waitress took about ten minutes to greet us after we sat down. I used to be a waitress, and where I worked, this is unacceptable. When she came up to us, she said, "Thanks for waiting for me." Of course we waited, we're freaking hungry! However, she was polite, so I can't give her too hard of a time. So anyway, we got our diet cokes (NO free refills - such a bummer). We ordered kalamari and italian salad for our appetizers. The kalamari was unlike anything I'd seen before. It came out in the shape of onion rings and was very chewy. The salad was doused in oil to the point of no return. I was actually pretty unhappy with the apps, but ate them anyway due to starvation. We ordered an extra large thin crust pizza - the deluxe, I believe. Basically it's a supreme pizza. This was actually delicious. It was warm, crispy, and gooey all at the same time. Everything I look for in a pizza. This is why I would lean towards takeout next time. Overall, the place is a little dingy and outdated, but it is a decent place to go if you find yourself in that area. I probably won't be back to Lisa's anytime soon, but I may call them for delivery during a future hunger meltdown. read more

Admittedly, I have not eaten here but I have done my fair share of take out/ordering from Lisa's Pizza (or Lisa's Fine Foods). Let me start with my critique - it's expensive for pizza. Yes, you could easily get a $12 Large somewhere else, but that's just it, it's somewhere else that is likely a chain, cut half hazardly, and tastes mediocre. This is where the few dollar difference with Lisa's matters. First, always order with a coupon. They have $2.00 off Large and Extra large pizza coupons in your money mailer, East Side Magazine, and even online. You have to have the coupon though, can't just show up without it. Second, get the extra large. If you have two hungry adults, you could easily finish the Large and want an appetizer or dessert. If you get the extra large, it insures a midnight snack or lunch for the next day. I would say 2 people for a Large, 3 people with less than average appetites for an extra Large. I've been going to this place for years and years and it has never disappointed. Whenever I go I always get thin crust loaded with toppings. The pizza comes out as squares, and as it is so full of toppings I have to accept the fact that I'll get a little messy or just eat it with a fork. But it is real-deal pizza with super delicious sauce and perfect sausage. It's a pizza joint where you get an extra-large for hoping for leftovers yet all too often see the whole thing disappear before you can help yourself. If you do have leftovers it saves really well. In fact, it saves so well that I've gotten pizza from there just to let it sit in the fridge and let the great flavor of the sauce soak in so I can enjoy that fantastic cold pizza flavor the next day. They place itself looks like a total dive bar from the outside (normally a good sign for a pizza joint) but the inside looks nothing like a dive bar and is pretty charming with quite a few tables and even a jukebox. read more

When I lived on the East Side, Lisa's always seemed like an underrated gem. When I would mention it to people, it was rare that somebody would know what I was talking about. A co-worker got me thinking about Lisa's again recently, and although it's been awhile since I've been there, I think it's still one of the more enjoyable pizza experiences I've had in Milwaukee. The sauce is really great. I like a heavy, hearty sauce, and that's exactly what Lisa's does well. The crust is some of the best thin-crust I've ever had. The topping options are all classics. I've never done delivery or takeout. I always ate in. It's a weird place, you have to climb a tall flight of stairs, but you settle in quickly. It's always been very home-y in Lisa's, and the staff was always very friendly. The cold pizza you're left with the next day makes for some of the best leftover pizza around, too. I have just finished eating my first and last meal from Lisa's. On a Monday night, I've had a tough day and have a craving for breaded mushrooms. Thinking of Pizza Man first, I find they are closed Mondays and search for an alternative. I remember Lisa's and the good things I had read about it, and decide to take the plunge. One order of breaded mushrooms, one of onion rings, and a large (14") artichoke and black olive pizza. Ready in 20 minutes, they say, and $29. I get there in 25 minutes to pick up the order, drive 5 minutes back home. Open the onion rings. There are seven of them. Take a bite. Stale. Cold. Mushy and hard at the same time. Just... Terrible. Open the mushrooms. Exact same stale, disgusting breading. Dipping sauce is ok. Finally, the pizza. Mush. Lukewarm mush. Mediocre taste at very best. I really, really wanted to love this place. The man who took our order and the waitress were just lovely. Very cozy inside, completely charming. But this food completely ruined my night. I feel robbed. read more

Lisa's was recommended by several coworkers, claiming that it is the best pizza in Milwaukee. The place looks like a house and the decor is very 1980's grandma style. The walls are decorated with a barrage of strange clocks. The dining area is very small... Probably 15 tables. The place was packed with families, and it reminded me of old school Italian restaurants I used to go to as a kid on the east coast. Not a bad vibe, but just maybe like you're dining at your friend's grandma's house on Long Island. Service sucked! Two stressed waitresses dashing about the place is not the way to go. The pizza had a thin cracker crust which was very crispy. If that's your type of pizza, come to Lisa's. I was looking forward to a New York style pizza. Sauce and cheese were very flavorful, but the crust was bland. Wouldn't come here again.. Will go to Zaffiros for their tastier pies. read more

Had a sausage, black olive and onion pizza delivered to the Hilton on Milwaukee River.. It arrived nice and hot and smelled delicious. The ingredients tasted great and the crust was the right balance of thin, crunchy and supportive. The only quirk was that they forgot to cut the pizza! It was still great. Continuing my quest for best Milwaukee pizza we stop in at Lisa's. There is ample seating in this dimly lit pizza joint. There are also plenty of options for your toppings. There is your usual fare of cheese, sausage, mushroom, etc. But I believe i saw items like shrimp and tuna on the menu. That's a nice way to mix it up for others...not me ;) I have a standard I like to order to taste test pizzas for comparison purposes. Cheese, Sausage, Pepperoni and Onion. Because Lisa's offers a bigger x-large pizza we did half with minced garlic. The crust is a little bit thicker then a super thin crust pizza. Don't be confused this is still a thin crust but I have had thinner. The little extra actually goes a long way in offering stability. The sauce, cheese and toppings often times can leave a crust soggy and flimsy. This retained it's crunch and strength only slightly buckling under heavier loaded center pieces. The crust was great. The toppings were good and the garlic wasn't as strong as i anticipated. The sauce kept me thinking throughout the night. It's almost like it needed something for me personally. When i tasted it by itself I could feel something was missing. Don't get me wrong though because the sauce was good but I would have loved a little bit of a bite. I found this to be a bit mellow. I found myself wanting to squirt lemon juice on the sauce. (Don't judge me) The pizza was perfectly finished with a nice slight golden brown beginning on the top. The edges of some pepperoni were crisping up nicely. It was served piping hot at our table. An extra large pizza is a rather large pizza for a table of two. If it hand one of those stands to sit on where we could position other things under it that would solve the problem of the table feeling slightly cluttered. The service was good. I feel the waitress really balanced all the customers well. Granted it wasn't super busy but I noticed that she checked in with people in a timely fashion, had a great personal interaction and really just did a great job. I was pleased about that. I never once had a lull where i was waiting too long for something (drinks, check). The menu was bigger than I anticipated with a variety of other options. Fish Fry, Fried chicken, Lasagna, etc. That easily makes it worth coming back to. We got a good amount for our money and I would definitely recommend this establishment for pizza. read more

I really wish that Pizza Man delivered but I had heard pretty good things about Lisa's so I thought I'd give them a try. I looked at the online menu and the veggie pizza had mushrooms, green peppers and black olives. That combination is a little outdated and a lot of places now have a few combo pizza's that are more unique. But I ordered it and added artichokes for an extra $2.50 (I think). I also knew I had garlic at home, pineapple, and jalapeno slices, oregano, and red chili pepper flakes that I could add when I reheated the slices in the toaster oven. Delivery service was quick and friendly. I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised about the quantity of toppings. Sometimes they are sparse (a disappointment). It seems like the technique that they used was to chop up all of the veggies together and then disperse them in smaller bits ... that meant you got all the flavors in one bite. So, a nice technique. What was also nice is that they insert this mesh square below the pizza which keeps the pizza from sticking to the cardboard which can be an issue because of moisture or steam. I liked the crust which reminded me of a big matzo cracker; both flavor and texture. The sauce was the right amount and had a sweetness to it which I liked. My ONLY problem with Pizza Man is that I don't think they use enough sauce, so I need to remind myself to ask for extra. I have had some stellar pizza's in my life and I would consider Lisa's just average. Pizza Man is still the winner and Classic Slice probably second place in Milwaukee. I've also had one of the best pizza's in my life at a restaurant in Santa Fe, and another in Playa del Carmen. I did not go inside Lisa's because I ordered delivery, but it probably suits the outdatedness of the pizza. Some people might find that that suits them, but I prefer innovative creations, and especially wood fired pies. I can enjoy a dive or someplace old fashion once-and-a-while as a novelty, but not usually for food, just drinks. read more

Lisa's Pizza is about 12 times better than Zaffiro's. That being said, it wasn't the best pizza I've had in the last month, but it's among the best I've had in Milwaukee. The garlic cheese bread could have been better, it seems like one bite pulled the entire shell of cheese off.....but it was light years ahead of Zaffiro's. We ordered a thick crust pepperoni pizza, the crust was really good, the cheese and pepperoni were spot on, but the sauce had a bit of a funk to it. Not sure exactly what it was....but it just tasted off. Later in the day, it turned out to be one of the best cold pizzas I've ever had....so there's that. read more

Ordered pizza for delivery last Friday night. (The ordering process over the phone turned into quite the long ordeal, but that's an entirely different story). Pizza got there within the promised amount of time, which was good. HOWEVER, we don't live that far away from Lisa's & the pizza was definitely not hot when it got to us, which was super disappointing. Also, the "large" is the smallest large I've ever seen in my life. The 2 of us devoured it and were still hungry. The flavor was good, but who wants cold pizza delivered to them? Delivery is awesome and a family tradition but Lisa's Pizza must also be experienced in their homey little dining room. The garlic cheese bread is delicious. I've been craving Lisa's pizza for weeks even though I hadn't had it in a few years. A group of five of us stopped in last night for dinner around 9pm. Here are the pluses: 1. Pizza is as good or even better than I remember: thin crust (not cracker), slightly sweet sauce w/o being too sweet, excellent sausage, lots of toppings) 2. Decent beer and wine lists 3. Crispy, not mushy eggplant fries 4. Reasonable prices ($85 for an extra large pizza, a combo appetizer basket, 7 beers & 2 whiskey drinks) 5. Very nice and personable server 6. Cozy atmosphere Here are the couple of minuses: 1. Our server was very welcoming, but the other servers were clearly cleaning up even though it was still over 1.5 hours until close 2. Pizza is always great. Fries are never good at all but that's fine. It's fries from a pizza place. I use to order them a lot when I lived closed by. That was about 4 years ago. Ordered them again yesterday. The biggest issue I have with them is they make you print their coupon online. I ordered 2 xtra large pizzas with lots of toppings. 40 some dollars worth of pizza and you won't give me the dollar off because you need the coupon printed from their website. Just annoying. Lisa's can still stand out amongst all the pizza places on Oakland Ave. Whether you have dinner in their small but inviting restaurant or ordering delivery, you wont be disappointed. The wait staff is excellent and seems more like a family. When I have dinner there I always go for the lasagna! Comes with bread and a side salad! They baked the lasagna on the dish! Not cut from a large pan and reheated! I Love Lisa's pizza! Perfect thin crust, sauce on point but I would like to have more toppings... We always order extra pepperoni.
