Went to Lisse for a work function on a Thursday night. It was a nice night so we were sat on the top floor, outdoor patio. There is plenty of shade with the umbrellas. It had a fabulous view of Cincinnati. We had a wonderful server, Nichole with an H. She told us the story about the owners having a farm. She was very attentive and kept our drinks refilled. Some of the guys in our party were little obnoxious and she handled it very well. I ordered the Dutch Filet. It was a 6 ounce Filet and was cooked exactly how I ordered it. I would say this is probably in the top three steaks I've ever had. It's set on a bed of Hutsput. Which is mashed potatoes, carrots, and onions all mashed together. Was very good but I added a little salt. For dessert I had the lemon sponge cake which was Holland Farms Blackberry & Lemon Mousse, Vanilla Whipped Cream, Oat Ginger Crumble. I kept hearing great things about Lisse. Finally went for our anniversary dinner and it lived up to, even exceeded expectations. We had impeccable service from the general manager Emily. Inside is beautiful and spacious but broken up into rooms so it feels more intimate. We opted to sit on the rooftop to enjoy the views. The host sat us and there were only 2 other parties in the entire restaurant, so with us, 3 total parties. The other tables received their food and multiple drinks in the 20 mins we sat at our table with no service. Made eye contact with the wait staff- each other table had their own sever- nothing. True Score- 4.56/5 Stars This experience was honestly incredible. The food was excellent, the service was fantastic, and the facilities were great. Interestingly, this is apace where you can either spend a lot of money, or even stay under 100 and have a fantastic meal. We started the evening with the Bitterballen, and honestly, the dish was extremely disappointing. The balls were very small, and for 10 dollars, you only get 5 of them They tasted great enough, but I would strongly advise against ordering them unless they up the quantity. With that, we also each had a Kentucky Sunset, which was a great cocktail. We each ordered the ribeye, and it was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. One of the best steaks I have ever had. We ordered two sides, the hotsput and the Dutch Mac and Cheese. Both were so good, and also served in sharable portions. The hotsput was nothing like anything I have ever had (in a good way) and the Mac and cheese was very creamy but not liquid-y. We finished the night with an order of the boterkoek, which was sweet and delicious. Service was extraordinary. Our server was so personable, easy going, and timely. I believe service can make or break an experience, and frankly every restaurant should aspire to be like Lisse in this regard. I believe John F(?) was our server, and he was great! Cost was great. Many dishes are pretty cheap, however you can also go pretty big here. For everything we got, it was roughly 250 dollars, but you could easily come here and spend under 100 for two people. Very versatile financially which I think is AWESOME! The restaurant had beautiful design inside and out. It felt very clean, modern, and upscale. Pretty casual dress code, and overall a comfortable place. My favorite part was the stained glass on the first floor! I believe there is rooftop seating, but I did not get to go up there. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The appetizer was the only flaw on this beautiful restaurant. I do not like leaving negative reviews especially for a restaurant we used to really like. First the good things. The service was very good. The hostess, waitress and servers were all prompt and very polite. The wine list and the bitterballen were good as well. The issue was with the steak quality and preparation. We both ordered the $60, 12oz "New Amsterdam" (clever name, eh?) strip steak. Both arrived severely charred. Now, I am a midwest guy and nobody loves a steak more than I do and I expect a bit of char from a good grill preparation, but these things were blackened and not in a good way! I mean they were both 90% black charcoal on the outside which is way over done. This amount of char really distracts from the flavor of the steak. The char may well have been overdone in order to cover up the fact that the steaks were of really inferior quality. I brought home the second half of my steak and measured 7/8 to 1 inch of fat on the trim which is really excessive. Not only that, but the marbling was coarse and there was gristle in most every bite. Our second steak was the same. I would have expected a MUCH higher quality cut of beef from this place especially given the price which is more than the strip at the R. C. steakhouse. read more

My friend and I were looking for a pre-show meal before seeing "Into the Woods" at the Carnegie in Covington and Lisse Steakhuis caught my eye when I was searching for places nearby that take reservations. I'm a sucker for a good steak. We were seated immediately in a nearly empty dining room (it was only 5 pm on a Saturday, but I'm shocked it wasn't more crowded) and our server, Loren, brought us water and took our drink order. He was professional and friendly, but also paced things perfectly. I love a server who knows how to explain the menu without overdoing it. Shortly after bringing our Cokes (or Cherry Coke in the case of my friend), we were also treated to complimentary bread service. It was good, but nothing fancy. We both settled on the Van Gogh, an 8 oz. filet. My friend likes hers medium rare; I get mine medium. We both thought that they were just a tad more done than we like them, but that's fine - we'll recalibrate next time we go. We certainly didn't waste any time devouring them regardless. I also had a Caesar salad to start; it was tasty with a nice creamy dressing and just the right amount of cheese. We shared the Dutch Mac and Cheese; this side is worth going to Lisse for alone! It was piping hot and so cheesy, with a nice mixture of flavors. Finally, I had the double chocolate raspberry cheesecake for dessert. My friend had the Boterkoek (or more commonly referred to as "Butter Cake.") She loved it so much. I sampled it and it was good, but I prefer something a little richer. My cheesecake was huge and I couldn't even finish it. I think I'll try Creme Brulee next time, just because I love Creme Brulee! I thought the price was reasonable for the level of service and the quality of food but be advised that this is priced like the luxury steakhouse experience that it is. Much of their menu has Dutch inspiration and some Indonesian flavors. I could taste it in the bitterballen; an appetizer I highly recommend by the way. It's deep fried slow cooked beef on the inside that has hints of curry taste served with some sweet chili sauce and mustard. I felt it paired better with the sweet! We ordered the barrel cut filets, highly recommend the Oscar topping (hollandaise and crab) with a side of hutspot (mashed potatoes and mashed carrot). However, they have some of the better steaks I've had, and yes I've been to The Ruby locations, and most of the higher end steakhouses in the area. The evening started with the host sending us to the third floor where additional staff would be waiting for us. My dish was garnished with a very large human hair that was not from our server or anyone at the table, as visible in the picture, unfortunately captured in my picture. The fish was over cooked, and the steak was only medium rare in the very middle for the 10 oz filet. Our bottle wine for dinner service, ordered well in advance, was presented when the rest of the table had their plates cleared from service. The bill was incorrect for the table, service was slow - you see a theme? Cocktails were nice and the creme brulee was better than most. For the price (less?), we could have gone to a local steak house that has over the top service. Like what they've done with the place since it was Chez Nora. I'm told they have a great deck - thou we didn't go up there (only 1st and 2nd floor). They did have a piano player on 1st floor and she was pretty good. Had the steak salad and shrimp cocktail. Both were good. I did add goat cheese to the salad to spruce it up a bit (otherwise it was just steak, 2 tomato wedges and about 3 grilled onions). My fella had the walleye and he said it was pretty good. He also had Gouda cheese sticks and said they were good but not worth $9. My friends got steaks - and they all looked good. They were the same price as Ruby's or Mortan's or Ruth Chris - while I didn't try a taste - I will say that they have tough completion with the other area steakhouses and better be on their game if they want to stay in business. A group of 6 of us came here prior a concert. We had heard good things and boy were we not disappointed. The location and facility are very convenient and done well. When we arrived we were greeted promptly by the hostess and bartenders (bar is right when you walk in). We were shown out table and the waiter came to introduce himself immediately. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, so I was anxious to have some authentic dishes. The chicken and peanut sauce was great, as were the frites.
