Aw it makes me sad that the first few reviews have such low ratings. I understand everyone's experiences are different. I visited today (a Wednesday, after Election Day, around 4pm). Maybe that'll explain why I gave the restaurant five stars. The moment I saw this restaurant being fixed up, I thought to myself, "this one better freakin' last." I said this because every restaurant that happens in that very spot ends up shutting down for some strange reasons. However, I have high hopes for Little Buddha. The set-up alone is something that catches your attention even as you're passing by. It's dark, it's mysterious, it's romantic, it's nice, and the best part? The waitresses and hostess are so sweet. Everyone knows I love Thai food, I was not going to pass up the opportunity to celebrate picking up my degree here. I was alone, which was kind of sad because I felt like someone should have been there with me to enjoy the deliciousness that was the Sauteed Thai Basil with Brown Rice (I recommend this 100%), as well as the Shrimp Shumai that I got as an appetizer. One thing I love about Thai food is that they give you plate full and it is enough to fill you up and leave you some to take home. You get exactly what you're paying for. Shirley was my waitress, ask for her if you want. She is a sweetheart. They are on the pricey side but not too pricey. They are perfect for groups and they have tables that light up (I'm sure I could have explained this much better). It is just stunning. For my first time coming to Little Buddha. The Lychee Martini actually taste like a lychee martini with a blend of lychees inside. The food was very good and the portions were a good size. I love Hibachi!!! I've never not loved it , until I came here !! The food is subpar and the service is horrendous. You have to chase down waitstaff to get another drink, or anything for that matter. 15% gratuity is included in your bill no matter if it's one person or 10 so be prepared for the to be included on bill. It's probably why the service is as bad as it was because they don't need to work for the tip, either way they get at least that.. The hibachi chef wasn't anything special he made one volcano and that was pretty much the only entertainment. Okay so here's the deal. As of writing this, Little Buddha is 2.5 stars on yelp with 92 reviews. From skimming through the reviews it seems like some talk about lack of service or how bad the service is. From the two times I've been there, both recently, the service has been amazing BUT that's because I sit directly at the sushi bar. I order my sushi directly with the sushi guy and he makes it immediately for me. So one way to bypass the bad or slow service from any of the wait staff is to go to the source if you're getting sushi. In terms of the sushi, DELICIOUS! I've had sushi around Rockland County but now this will be my go to sushi spot. They make it fresh, the crunch of the tempura, the food is hot off the press, the sashimi is fresh and cold. I'm in the industry so when I find good food and good service I'm definitely going to compliment it and become a more frequent customer. In terms of the bad service, we did notice that the people who work in the way front, the hostess and/or the guy server, did not have as friendly a demeanor as one would like in such an establishment, and that is why the best way to go about it is to go right to the back. I'm glad I found this little "hack" for faster service and food and gladly share it with you all. And from both times I've been there, the servers who serve at the back are definitely friendlier in personality, demeanor and are faster and more attentive. The wait to get to our table was very short with the wait for our food was a little long but totally worth it. The Omnivores in the group had a reasonably presented meal. If you're a vegetarian it is the worst the service was terrible. We were starving and the first vegetarian dish that came out was supposed to be spicy Singapore noodles and had no spice at all no taste no vegetables and minimum egg to speak off. The service is was excellent, the staff courteous and friendly. I went for lunch and the place was not crowded. Perhaps that is why I got great service while other reviews complained about it. I however choose to make my own mind up about places I visit and the people I interact with. I was greeted with a couple of cold Stella's followed with a cold crisp really fresh salad. The dressing was so good I drank the remainder of it. Absolutely delicious! Then came the Miso soup and it was the best I ever had. Although many of the reviews complain about the service, most say the food is delicious and it truly is. They also offer a great deal for lunch 15.95 per person for a combo dish. This is much less expensive than most hibachi restaurants. The meal started with fried rice and noodles which were tasty. The chef went on to entertain us while he cooked the steak, chicken and shrimps. All was very fresh and cooked to perfection. The place is pretty large and I think they are known for their Hibachi (like Benihana) which is probably why the seating area was empty. I had the pad Thai and the waiter had the chef add tofu which was really nice of her. My husband opted for the Singapore Mei Fun which is usually a no-no but the waiter had the kitchen remove the non-vegan ingredients... winning! I said no I am still eating. So she stood like 6 feet away from me til I finished just because mostly everyone on the table were done and leaving. I finished and got my check. I paid with debit. On the tip portion. I wrote-in CASH because the only one that truly deserved the tip was the cook and I had already tipped him. As I'm walking out with my family. The ladyhawk that was forcing me to finish comes running up to me and says that I didn't tip. I asked her what was she talking about. I tipped the cook. She then proceeds to call a man in a vest to which I assumed was the manager. And he starts complaining about the tip. I said I gave it to the cook. They were dumbfounded when I told them that. The guy in the vest then proceeded to tell me that 5 dollars is not enough. I told him rarely carry cash, that's all I had. He then said I can finish the tip off with my card. I told him "oh really, so write it in, if you guys really need the money that bad write 6 dollars in the tip section". He nervously did and I left. I called my bank and told them that I just left an establishment and paid 82 dollars with my card and the manager and their staff edited the initial tip from cash to 6 dollars without my signature nor initials. If you guys are having trouble paying your lease and need every penny to pay it, choose a different way to gain money and when the leasing contract is over, look for a less expensive space so moments like these don't happen again. The two stars are for the seafood soup and their tonkotsu ramen, which were quite tasty. Why you shouldn't order any seafood by the pound: The price tag for a pound of king crab legs is close to $50.00. What's inside is two large potatoes, half a corn cob, the garlic sauce which was like half a cup, that looked more like a broth, and 4 skinny, almost meatless crab legs. I weighed the king crab legs bag, because I couldn't believe the 4 stick like crab legs weighed a pound. True enough it didn't reach a pound, not even close. When I took out the 4 legs from the bag and weighed the bag again, it was the same weight. It was the potatoes, garlic "sauce" and corn cob that made up the weight. As you can imagine, I was incensed. $50.00 for 2 big potatoes, half a corn cob, half a cup garlic broth, and 4 skinny "king crab" legs that didn't even add to the weight. But wait, there's more. My boyfriend and I shared the 4 crab legs, 2 a piece. We had a hard time cracking it open, even with a crab cracker, as the shell was more rubbery than anything. It was evident that they gave us a stale batch of crab legs. The inside, when we finally got through, was a few pinchful of meat.
