    Sicilian
    Lou I.

I don't know what happened to this place but I went here today again with my son for lunch and the quality of everything just has gone downhill. The sausage roll was horrible raw and just a mess. The Sicilian pizza was terrible. Tasted like raw dough with Hunts, tomato sauce and flavorless Mozzarella cheese on top. I also saw many new faces, and they didn't seem Italian.... must be new owners.

I have had the regular (which has the perfect cheese:sauce ratio), ala vodka (delicious) and buffalo chicken (a great tang without being overpowering).

Coming back to my hometown is always a treat. Sky was blue, sun was shining, and my Knicks Theo…read morePinson jersey was keeping me safe. Me and my good friend (new character) skittle decided to go to San Marzano before the rest of our friends showed up so we can get some food and chat before it became chaotic. We were greeted by a very kind staff instantly and our bartender Luke (who I definitely do not know) had us seated and comfortable right away. Lemme tell you I felt like royalty there, Luke is very knowledgable about the whole menu and the place and you can tell he is very passionate for his work, and proud that he works there. For an appetizer I got the rice balls, something small and quick before my blood sugar was in the negatives. I was saddened that there was no meat involved because I am growing boy who needs protein but they were extremely good regardless. Very flavorful, and I was really impressed off rip and excited for what was to come. Oh yeah side note skittles has an allergy to literally EVERYTHING. Peanut, treenuts, shellfish, cheese, water, etc. So he literally didn't want anything. Onto the entree! Luke and I discussed what's the most flavorful thing I can obtain with a hefty amount of protein. He looked me dead in my eye and pointed to the Short rib ragu and told me to add a chicken cutlet. He was so confident in that dish I had to get it. I received it and it was really good, it hit the spot. I thought maybe a little more garlic throughout, I thought the salt was overdone a tad, but the pasta was awesome the short rib was a good portion, and the chicken cutlet was your typical long island cutlet. Actually a great dish that I would get again. I then was in need of a sweet treat. That's how you know I was satisfied.. I don't like desserts or I'm not a fan of really any sugary delight, but I was so relaxed I felt like I had to. I got this hardened chocolate shell with three flavors of ice cream inside and it was good! Again I'm not too fond of sweets so after about five bites I was dead, but then Doctor Bs wife spawned out of literal nowhere and ate the rest. Then about 12 more people arrived and watching Luke in action was like watching Jalen brunson drop 45 on the spurs. Total confidence and was extremely efficient. He then made me a fig martini which also was cool! Had a nice color and a perfect starting drink for the knicks game. I have to give my props to the rest of the staff too, including the manager. Everyone worked very well together and it makes me very happy to see a business come together with the same goal to work collectively to run the place as efficient as possible. Great job, will be back.

Better light than too much but good to know for the people that might get freaked out. Pizza is thin so that's a plus! Crust not chewy and fluffy but is smaller than others so I guess that is fine since we get more toppings? It's similar to how we make neapolitan to maximize the middle even though we practiced to master the fluffy chew. My favorite pie is their mushroom. The balance of mushrooms, cheese and flavor is perfect. Pasta was not snapy but that might be because we did take out Brussels sprouts were also taken to go and surprisingly remained crispy! You can tell it's deep fried by the amount of oil immersed in each bite you take. Overall for the surprisingly reasonable price they charge (~$15 a pie), it's worth it to not make it at home.

Craved some non saucy chicken so the chicken noodle soup hit the spot. And hubby's pizza perfected the meal. Excellent service, and they do a decent takeout as well as catering business.

Parking was more readily available in the street. There was plenty of seating in the take out/sit down portion of the restaurant where we were; very casual atmosphere, with the take-out line a bit lengthy. Once we ordered, we were served warm bread with butter for the table - excellent! The food, in general, was equally good and I would come back again. We had veal parmigiana which needed a bit more sauce on the plate and a buffalo chicken pizza, which was very tasty, with blue cheese dressing as a sauce and spicy pieces of buffalo chicken on top. The pizza crust was perfect; I'm definitely going for pizza next time I visit. Where I need to take exception was the service. From the waitress who seated us, to the waiter who took our order and served our food, it was just one of the most impersonal experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. It was sort of like a vending machine: you punch in your order, it falls out underneath, you take it and eat it. This is where this venue loses a star. It wasn't so busy that they (the woman who seated us and the waiter who served us) couldn't make eye contact, or smile, or at least say hello; because they did none of those things. Maybe even pass by during the meal and ask "how's the food tonight" or "is there anything else I can get for you." The bottom line is that the food was good, but the service was cold, impersonal, and transactional.
