Our family went as an outing. The variety of food they have available met the pressures of a large group of folks. Some of us must eat different foods, others just have different preferences. The Little Dipper met all needs and wants. The food was wonderful and the selection was great. There is an old time coke theme and oldies playing in the background with memorabilia hanging on the wall. The orders arrived together. There was no dryness, burned, or cold food. Our annual trek to see three grandkids and also their parents. All three (ages 9 to 17) were in Hockey camps one starting at 5am, so we decided to find "local" breakfast stops, since we were out and about anyway. Well, after 31 years in the US Navy, and 22 moves around this great country, this place is at the top of our list for breakfast. Pancakes, French Toast, reindeer omelette, fried, poached and scrambled eggs cooked right, crispy bacon, the best home fries ever (usually order grits), biscuits and gravy (skinny, picky eater 9-year old ate the entire order), always full coffee cup, and friendly service. On our second visit, I ordered the Reindeer omeltte and Frank, asked if I wanted home fries like last time. The server remembered me after only one visit and also gave us a military discount without asking (I have been retired for almost 30, and do not look very military, but he saw my hat). Ambiance? The folks who run the place originally had a tiny little spot on Spenard next to old Bosco's across from the windmill at Coot's. Now settled into this comfy, semi-quiet spot, they have got their groove on. Everyone that I have talked to who works there is related to the owner by no more than 2 degrees of separation. Uncles, Aunts, BILs, MILs, SILs, and FILs with a kid n cousin tossed in for good measure. The cool thing is...they seem to like each other. They are a happy lot and they let it spill it out on the customers. The place does a hoping business on the weekend (I have not been there on a weekday). I took Mrs. B there for breakfast as it is only a few blocks from our abode. We felt right at home in our Saturday morning casual gear. I had a Reuben, A)It was a great sandwich. B) It was a pretty good Reuben. (Reuben Snobs will understand). Mrs. B went for the Corned Beef Hash (crispy please) & Eggs OE. She gave it 5 stars due to the fact that they took a rather pedestrian dish and prepared it with care and exactly the way that she requested. This place has so many high reviews, but the food was not very good when I went there. The corned beef hash was from a can, pretty gross. The eggs where about the same as a chain restaurant like Denny's. And they don't have hash browns, home fries, which were decent I guess. Basically the food that I tried was average or below average to any small breakfast place in town. Decent service, but not great. I'll have to go back and try more menu items and update my review. Just don't go here if you want some good Corned beef hash or hash browns. I haven't gone back yet but my friend really likes this place... but I think she's delusional =D read more

This morning was our first time here. We have never heard of this diner and if it wasn't for a group of people walking in, it wouldn't have caught our eyes. So glad we found it! The food was delicious and the portion was generous. The home fries were yummy and the omelette was perfect! Their computers were down when it was time for us to pay so they told us our meal was on the house. We felt so bad because we didn't have any cash with us :( We are definitely coming back since it's so close to where we live and the food is great. Atmosphere is nice too. What a gem! Finally found this place. You definitely don't happen upon it - must be looking for it. Portions were out of this world! Service was quaint and super down to earth. We enjoyed the relaxed and private atmosphere of the seating. I ordered the Cajun chicken scramble with gravy on the side. I was craving the creamy factor that day. While my scramble was good, it was a bit on the drier side so I'm glad I ordered the gravy to assist. Would've liked a bit of color to break up the monotony. The amount of egg was super satisfying, while their style of potatoes/home fries under it all were surprising! I just assumed to expect your usual cubed and frozen diner style potato but these were definitely either made locally or in house. The chicken had a little bit of an odd, metally taste, but the spiciness helped mask it a little better. My husband had the country fried steak and eggs with home fries. Again, what a surprise. The steak was tender, not gristley and better than other breakfast themed diners we've visited recently. The potatoes again were a huge win. We will definitely be back. The crab Benedict has my eye! I didn't think we'd ever be able to finalize our order because the options were endless! Diverse selection without being redundant or different combinations of the same thing.
