The "flaky" crust they promised turned out to be a rubbery pizza dough spread over a dish with hardly any crab, shrimp or oysters they said were in it. I saw only 3 tiny popcorn shrimp in mine with maybe a bit of crab but not an oyster to be found. I also found pieces of empty shrimp shells -- very unpleasant. The 3 tiny shrimp were floating alone in a runny white pool of liquid, without even a hint of potato, onion, carrots or peas. I wondered if the chef ever had a pot pie of any kind because this so called "pie" (no bottom crust) didn't resemble any I've ever had. It was pathetic. I felt scammed. All the good we had was pretty good. With the exception of the squid ink and sea urchin pasta. The pasta was just mush and the flavor was bad. Nothing about the dish tasted fresh. I didn't eat it. I sent it back. The biggest problem for me was our server recommended it saying it was her favorite and that, that dish made it worth her drive to work. The service overall I would give it a 6.5/10. The ambiance was as I remember it when it was Sly's. With the exception of the pasta it met my expectations as far as they were considering the people that I spoke to about it said don't get your expectations up but it is worth going! I've been meaning to go to Little Dom's in LA, so it was a good opportunity to stop by here during a mini road trip. We parked a few blocks away in a public parking lot, but there is street parking available too. Uni & Eggs - eggs were nicely scrambled and the uni was good Pizza Margherita with added arugula, mushrooms, and prosciutto - was expecting more from this pizza, but it was decent Squid Ink Mafaldine - favorite of what we ordered! Then came back on Saturday and had phenomenal service by our server Graham. The icing on the cake was when I left my purse in the restroom and hadn't even realized it until an employee named Eddie brought it out to me. We decided to spend a short afternoon in Carpinteria and get a quick and small dinner in a place we hadn't tried before. We noticed that this restaurant wasn't far from the beach, and it had a nice selection of Italian food and seafood, so we'd figured we'd walk in and give it a shot. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we got there at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon; we asked about a table or booth indoors and we're told that a booth was possible as long as we didn't mind leaving before 6:30, when the place would be filled due to reservations. That was fine with us, since we were looking for something small and relatively quick. The restaurant is an offshoot of a similarly named one in Silver Lake in LA, with more of an emphasis on seafood dishes in addition to Italian food. The decor and the general design gave it the vibe of a place that had been around forever a long time. It's not hard to imagine a similar restaurant being on this site 90 years ago! The server was very attentive and was very quick and efficient with our order and any requests we had. My wife had a margherita pizza with Italian sausage; I had a side order of three meatballs and a bowl of seafood gumbo, asking for the meatballs to be delivered first, The meatballs were excellent - hot and flavorful, with a rich marinara sauce. I almost wished I'd ordered a plate of spaghetti and meatballs instead! My wife's pizza was excellent as well; the dough was crisp, almost cracker-like, and the sausage and sauce were delicious. The gumbo then came out, and that was also wonderful; the soup was tasty but not overly spicy, and every spoonful was chock full of seafood. Our portions were big enough that we both had quite a bit of food to take home because we were so full, and we weren't about to leave anything behind! We had no room for dessert, but we're definitely coming back for the cold lemon pie! As a couple of reviews have mentioned, Little Dom's isn't cheap, but the food and service were excellent. One suggestion for them, though - the restaurant should consider ordering some standard pizza boxes for takeout orders and for carrying home leftover pizza. We had so much pizza left and the restaurant had such small to-go boxes that we had to fold the pizza up to get it to fit! In the grand scope of things, that's a minor quibble. In a town where restaurants with indifferent service and average food get rave reviews (*cough* The Spot *cough*), we were really pleased with our choice! read more

You made it all the way up to Carp from LA! Nice to see you here. I can't speak for lunch and dinner as I haven't been, but the breakfast menu is a ROCKSTAR. Choice ingredients for elevated breakfasts that don't skimp on flavor at all. I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon, provolone and eggs on House Stecca bread. ***SO*** good and hard to describe: Their Stecca is like a combination French baguette, biscuit and focaccia all in one. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a dense biscuit on the inside with the firmness of a focaccia. It is LITERALLY my favorite bread in the whole wide world, the best of everything, and it completely elevated this sandwich. I'm going to find it everywhere and make pizza out of it. Ended up eating here two nights in a row it was that good. The first night was the Sunday night special Cioppino with an excellent broth and more than enough for two people to share. That was preceded by the excellent bread service and the arugula salad, lightly dressed, but packed full of flavor. The second night we were headed back specifically for the Monday night clam linguine special, but it was sold out. Turned out to be a good thing because we ended up ordering the fish piccata, which was absolutely outstanding. Lightly floured and fried on a bed of green beans with a butter and caper sauce. A truly stand out dish. We paired that with the cavatelli with a light vodka sauce, also not to be missed... and of course the bread service for a second night in a row. Believe it or not they bring it all the way up from someplace in Los Angeles and even though it's not local, it is incredibly worth it. All in all spectacular service in a fairly new space with plenty of open seating as well as seating at the bar. Excellent cocktail selection and full bar, but the wine list is a can't miss. We liked a northern Italian red that we tried there so much that we ended up buying a case online for our daughters upcoming wedding. We loved this gem. Located in a quaint part of Carp, we were so glad we came. It really felt like a local spot. The staff and the food just made me feel so happy. We were hungry, although it only took us 20 mins to walk here, we probably waited too long to start our journey. To start I had a Syrah rose and my husband had the lavender hard lemonade. We started with the caprese salad and the cold salmon dish with burrata. The salmon dish was my favorite. The flat bread it served with and the fried capers were all to the moon good. My husband had the black squid ink pasta with shrimp and uni butter and I had the fish piccata (halibut) with asparagus. All dishes were just delicious. Great choice for morning brunch after our beach walk in Carpinteria. Located right on the Main Street (Linden Ave) downtown. They have a full bar, it's nice to have cocktail with weekend breakfast. Great service, nice clean open air feeling atmosphere and friendly staff. Our food arrived hot and just as ordered. Although I felt my cauliflower risotto was a little bland lacking any flavorful spice, but I added some hot sauce and it was delicious. Probably would try something else next time. I called and spoke to the manager who said she would look into it and call me back. I NEVER received a phone call. I walked in this evening to TALK to a manager in person. She told me that she was out all week and hadn't had a chance to call me back yet, there was NOTHING they could do. Nothing? I just stared in disbelief. I will take it up with Doordash directly. Our server came out and was very nice and I ordered a happy hour IPA. I ordered a margherita pizza with anchovies and a meatball. The meal came out about 10 minutes later and I ordered another IPA. The pizza was solid and the anchovies were great as always, but I would say the scene stealer was the meatball. Good size and flavorful and in a base of amazing spaghetti sauce. We visit Carpinteria now and again because we love its sleepy, artsy esthetic. We love the "world's safest beach" and walking around downtown admiring its charming bungalows and mom and pop shops. The last time we were here we had a wonderful meal at Palms Steakhouse where we cooked our own steaks and chatted with the locals. Palms unfortunately shuttered due to the pandemic so tonight we decided to try Little Dom's Seafood across the street. This is a sister restaurant to Little Dom's in Los Feliz where we go for Monday Night Suppers featuring 3 courses and a bottle of wine for a nominal price. This Little Dom's has the same thing but on Tuesdays. I was excited to eat until I realize what it consists of. Tonight's special was a green salad, tomato capellini and polenta strawberry dessert. How utterly boring, extremely outdated and tasteless to boot. We also had the Marguerita Pizza which didn't taste bad but the flatbread crust was extremely thin and not satisfying to eat. I had the squid ink pappardelle which sounds great but the pasta was so bland that I did not taste any squid or ink. It touted a spicy uni sauce but again I tasted neither uni nor spice. How can this deeply flavorful dish have no taste here? This was the worst squid ink pasta I've ever had and a ripoff at $30. Better Half had the Wood Fired Oven Snapper with a corn and bell pepper sauce that looks like something I make at home on a Tuesday night. Plating was terribly dated with the fish on the right, corn polenta to the left and bell peppers in the middle. Worst thing is the fish looked and tasted like those frozen fillets from Ralphs and although it's described as being cooked in a wood fired oven, I could not taste its essence of wood or fire at all. This too, was a ripoff at $30. Saving grace was the friendly hostess and our lovely server. An extra star just for them. Come for drinks and the jovial atmosphere perhaps but the food is mediocre at best and way too overpriced. We shall not return. Sorry. read more

We shared an appetizer of chilled creole boiled shrimp (aka shrimp cocktail) and the seasoning and homemade sauce lifted it beyond your run of the mill appetizer. Next was their gumbo. Being a southern boy who loves New Orleans and my Gulf seafood, I wasn't expecting much. Real servings of gumbo are few and far between. To be honest, this was one of the best bowls of gumbo that I've had. It wasn't just the crab legs, crawfish, and fresh fish. You could tell how much care was taken in getting the roux just right. This was a first class gumbo. The only negative, they left the shells on the mudbugs. I hate making a mess while I'm eating. Still, that wasn't enough to detract from the meal. We have been coming to Little Dom's for several years and before that it was Sly's. It has changed. I'm writing this review because if I was the business owner I would want to know. We came two nights in a row and the first night was so so and didn't feel the need to post because everyone has an off night. The second night we ordered the argula salad because they were out of many of the appetizers and we were disappointed. It was old plant arugula tough stems and not even barely chopped. There was oil on the salad but almost no vinegar or lemon. I'm not a chef but arugula salad seems like not much of a challenge. My girlfriend and I both ordered the fish and chips and it was not very good. Thin pieces of over fried black cod on a giant bed of smashes potatoes that were also over done. Hard to imagine if the owners tasted this food that it would have found its way to the table. without some changes I don't see how they can remain competitive with all the other eating places in Carpenteria. This is Labor Day Weekend not a time to provide this kind of food to customers. We had an overall amazing experience: delicious meal, excellent service, and a picturesque atmosphere. All the food looked so good - so per usual I was having a hard time choosing but I have been craving fish lately. Our server (Heather) was invaluable: recommending I order the fish piccata which was a home run!!! I paired that with beautiful veggies and I had to get myself some garlic potatoes. We used to live right next door to the Little Dom's in Los Angeles, and I miss being able to roll out of our house and eat there whenever we wanted. We went to Little Dom's Seafood in Carpinteria a couple months back while visiting Santa Barbara, and it was a really nice spot for an early Sunday dinner with our toddler and his grandparents. I love the vibe of this place. It's charming and nautical in a way that echoes the vintage Italian vibe of the L.A. Little Dom's (both places are decidedly 21st century joints). The atmosphere is relaxed, and service is excellent. I ordered the squid ink mafaldine for my dinner, and this was lovely, a rustic squiggly black pasta with toasted pine nuts and a touch of spicy uni butter (could've used more uni, but when is that not true?). If the kitchen is similar to the L.A. location's, I'd also recommend the chicken parmesan or the fried oyster sandwich, which is a Little Dom's classic. For dessert, I enjoyed a bright, cold slice of Meyer lemon icebox pie. Little Dom's Seafood isn't particularly easy for us to get to, but it's a pleasant restaurant that works well for family outings. I expect we'll keep coming back now and then when we're in Santa Barbara. read more
