I love Little Garden. This is probably my favorite Chinese spot. All their dishes are cheap and come in big portions. The Hunan cold noodle was good. I wanted to try something new, but I probably won't order this again. I enjoyed their other noodles more. I'd recommend their Tan-Tan noodle or spicy beef brisket with yam noodles. I liked the stir-fried cabbage, and holy cow, the huge plate was only for $9!! I think this is enough for 10 people. We ended up only finishing half and took the rest home. The Lamb on Sizzling Hot Plate was just okay--I was really excited when they brought it out and you could hear the sizzling sound, but the meat quality was very average. I was surprised Little Garden has such low ratings, but seemed like most people were only complaining about the wait. This is a popular restaurant, so the wait can be long during busy hours (sometimes even 1.5 hr). They don't take reservations, so make sure you go early and plan for wait time. This restaurant serves big portions for pretty cheap. Our meal (5 dishes) before tip and tax was $56! The food was also pretty good. My favorite dish was the dumplings -- they were juicy and flavorful. The pea vine, fish, and beef chow fun were a tad oily but overall very good. The green onion pancake was fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. This restaurant is a little hidden on the backside of another strip mall area. The restaurant is small and there's limited parking directly out front, but plenty on the backside if you're willing to walk. The menu is large and has a good variety of items. We ordered a couple plates of dumplings, pea vines and the Chinese rice cakes with beef For three of us and it was more than enough. The portion sizes were good, the food came out fast and the food was flavorful. Service is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant (don't expect much), but you don't go to a Chinese restaurant for super attentive service. Will definitely come back! read more

Awful--when the restaurant is supposed to be open for lunch the surly staff woman who is always there barks, "dining no open!" She refuses to seat people though it is almost an hour before her post-lunch break. Someone should tell the owners -- they have lost hundreds and thousands of dollars because the staff does not want to work and refuses to seat people, basically closing down the restaurant almost an hour before the stated closing. Someone should report them for refusal to serve during advertised hours which could be illegal discrimination. This has happened repeatedly always with the same surly woman. read more

If I'd read the reviews I would've come here much earlier in the day so that I wasn't dying of starvation by the time they took our order. When people say slow service they were NOT kidding. We ordered after 6:30 and our first dish landed on the table maybe around 7:30. Make sure you only come here with someone you REALLY enjoy the company of. Or someone you really want to trap for a few hours. To be fair, they did warn us when we came in that it'd take a while. And we were indecisive while ordering so she said "look im going to have to take that other table's order first then" which would've been fair warning that our dishes was gonna be even later on the chef's list but we didn't realize what the wait situation was like. We were joking that it must be one guy in the kitchen and he must be running to asian family market for each individual dish as the order comes in. Another table did it right. The dad and sone walked in and ordered while the mom went grocery shopping and came in later. Ordering was very no nonsense. She kept coming by to hurry us and when we said oh maybe we'll start with one or two then and keep a menu to keep looking she said "nuh uh you don't wanna do that". Very brisk chinese mannerism but not in an unkind way. As we were waiting, she later joked with us (I'd somehow gotten a pack of chopsticks that only had 1 stick in it and she was joking that I should buy a lottery ticket, and later when my boyfriend finally couldn't hold in his hunger and ran to 85 for a bread only to have our first dish arrive seconds after he ran out, she thought the timing was so funny lol). I was confused by the menu though. They have a bunch of sichuan dishes but I feel like their forte is more in the cantonese arena. We ended up getting the 萝卜排骨 (radish and spare ribs), 鱼香茄子 (fish fragrant eggplant), 铁板羊肉 (iron plate lamb), and 湘西炒饭（xiangxi fried rice). The eggplant was a classic and very good, the fried rice was unique because of the sour pickled veggie, the radish and ribs was saucy, and the lamb came out very sizzly. But it's tenderized in that cantonese way that I personally don't like all that much. Overally not bad tasting but I think whatever oil they use isn't great quality and there's a lot of it. I was queasy after eating in the same way I usually only get queasy after eating too much fast food fried chicken. We probably should've gotten some lighter dishes like a soup or something. They may be Little Garden, but they sure dish out large portions! These days, it's rare to find restaurants that serve such generous servings at reasonable prices, but this quaint establishment is one of them. Six of us arrived for dinner right when they opened at 5:00PM and there were already a number of customers picking up their to-go orders. We were the first group seated, but by 6:00PM tables started filling up, especially with their capacity of about 60 people. Throughout the duration of dinner, just one woman handled all customers by herself. She constantly ran back and forth taking orders, setting tables and serving food. I was impressed and she did a great job! When one of us dropped our chopsticks, she must have heard it clang on the ground since she brought over another pair before we even had a chance to ask. Their menu is extensive with sections of "Small Eats", Hunan specials, Sichuan specials and seafood dishes. Outside of the Small Eats, most plates seemed to be around $12-$14 which is pretty reasonable. We ordered six dishes which provided more than enough for all of us. + Eggplant w/ Spicy Garlic Sauce: The eggplant was cooked well, but the sauce wasn't spicy at all and I didn't taste much garlic. Instead, the sauce was on the sweeter side with a gingery flavor. It was tasty, just wasn't what I expected. + Rice Cakes with Pork: This dish was pretty oily, but I loved the chewiness of the rice cakes. With some veggies mixed in and thin pieces of pork, this actually reminded me of rice cakes at Din Tai Fung. It wasn't too salty either, which I appreciated. I'd definitely order again! + Pea Vines w/ Garlic: Now these are garlicky! I wish I captured a photo of how gigantic the serving was... they were piled high! The greens were tender, tasted fresh, and had a slight smokiness from the wok. + Mongolian Beef: This is the first Mongolian Beef I've had that wasn't covered in a syrupy brown sauce. Instead, the thinly-sliced beef seemed to have been marinated and therefore still had plenty of flavor. I could actually taste the beef for itself. + Four Treasures: Tofu, black mushrooms, some shrimp and a type of white fish all in a brown sauce. It wasn't too oily nor salty and was definitely on the healthier side. Compared to the other "treasures", there was barely any fish, so the dish felt a little incomplete. + Mandarin Chicken: Fried nuggets of chicken tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce with a hint of spice. This was one of my favorites of the night! Note: We visited on November 13th. As of October 25, 2021, King County imposed a new policy where restaurants are required to ask diners for proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test if they are dining in. Little Garden has a King County health rating of "Excellent", so we were rather surprised that they did NOT verify vaccine cards before seating customers. Some people walked in without masks which was also not enforced despite having signage on the door stating they're required. I'm disappointed to say I didn't feel the safest here, especially as the restaurant is smaller with little spacing between tables. Worst service I've ever experienced. We were ignored the multiple times we called over our waitress. After 30 minutes of waiting we asked her about how much longer the wait would be. This is Bellevue's hidden gem - ABSOLUTELY delicious and the portions are huge!! Great value and authentic sichuan and hunan flavors! The potstickers (10/10) are BOMB! Crunchy skin and great filling, I was popping them in my mouth so quick because it was so delicious. They even sell their dumplings frozen which is awesome. You just definitely need to get their fried fish (10/10). Fish is battered and decked with sauce - and not to forget how flaky it is inside! We had so much food leftover and it still tasted good the next day. Sizzling beef (7/10) was standard in flavor, not very impressive compared to everything else we ordered. Eggplants (8/10) were delicious as well - only didn't love because I was expecting a more salty and fish sauce flavor, perhaps I ordered the wrong style. They did have 3 eggplant menu options. Im afraid you won't find the picture support or waiter recommendations here. We ordered 6-7 entres which was MORE than enough for our party of 6. We ordered, cauliflower veggies, chili oiled green beans, mapo tofu, pork and veggies, cumin beef, egg plant, and fish in chili oil. I think all of it was pretty good. The Szechuan flavor here (on the mapo tofu) leans slightly higher than what you'd find to be the average level of intensity at other restaurants, so if you like that, definitely give that one a go. All the meals come with hot tea beforehand, but the waters, we had to ask for. So, make sure you ask for water before all the spicy food comes out. It could save you lol. All things considered, this restaurant is an awesome spot to bring friends, break bread, and not feel like you're unwelcome. Overall, these dishes were.. very abysmal. When these dishes come to you, they looked alright; if you try them, nothing is right. I know the price at this place is cheap. They have a couple dishes that deserve some praise and have been approved when we have family friends over: 1. Tea Smoked Duck (rare find in Bellevue where roast duck is very popular and the other place we go to is in seattle) 2. Dan Dan Noodles- I have tried multiple versions of this Sichuan dish at other Chinese restaurants but I still think this place gets the balance of the sauce and spice just right. Okay here's the deal with this place, and this is coming from someone who has been coming here for almost a decade now, and knew the original owner/waitress for 20+ years going back to when she worked at Sichuanese Cuisine in Seattle. First off, a new owner (the lady who sits at the round table) has recently taken over in the last year or two and presumably a new chef too, because the food taste has gradually changed (taste and ingredients have started to drift from the original recipes, and not in a good way). This establishment has never been somewhere to go if you want A+ service, it has always been about the food, and because the food was good many of us were willing to deal with the long wait times and mediocre service. This restaurant has always been run with an extremely bare bones kitchen and wait staff. If I'm not mistaken there was and still currently is only one chef, hence the reason why orders take so long to pump out. As for the new owner, yes she can seem a bit unfriendly, but this is pretty typical at hole in the wall Chinese restaurants, and even other Asian restaurants (Korean, Vietnamese, Thai). To outsiders this can seem standoffish and unfriendly, but it is what it is. Not justifying the behavior, but rather pointing out that this is pretty typical for these types of restaurants (I'm half Asian and grew up going to these types of restaurants). Even us asian customers get treated the same way, and most of us don't even think twice about it. So if you feel offended in any way I'd recommend not to take things too personal. With that being said, I think the new owner is coasting off of the reputation of the old owner/chef. The restaurant used to be packed during lunch and dinner, and it still pretty busy, but traffic has definitely died down. I think the new owner has arrogantly assumed that they could just come in coast off of that reputation. The problem is that the food isn't as good anymore. While the menu remains the same, the flavors are changing ever so slightly with each visit (I've been coming here at least once a month for over a decade). I used to go out of my way to eat here, meaning that the food tasted so good (and was a good value too) it was worth all of the hassle (long wait times, mediocre service, etc.). Not anymore. It went from a 5/5 to maybe a 3.5/5 for me. It's still good, cheap, no frills Sichuan food, but I'm starting to look around for new spots in the area. Haven't found any good replacements yet but yeah, when I do I probably won't be coming back here too often. But yeah, back to the new owner, I think they're used to seeing the restaurant packed and so it gives the that feeling of entitlement, like they're holding the golden goose and you'd better wait your turn, and if you don't, then they could care less. A huge menu, super cheap prices with hefty shareable portions. For example, 20 dumplings is only $6.50! Noodles can be shared among 4 people and it only costs something like $7.50? Everything is amazing here and I wish I could eat here every day honestly. The noodles are sometimes a little bit overcooked for my liking, but good enough. First overtly racist experience in a long time. If you look at my other reviews, you will see that my family and I frequent ethnic restaurants as our normal. We tend to choose places that have more patrons representing the ethnicity of the restaurant, because we actively expose our children to authentic cuisine. We came in, sat, waited for several minutes and then someone came out and informed us that they were closed. The pea vines were strangely oily but in a light way (similar to oil on salads) but the pea vines themselves were very fresh and cooked just right. The pork belly with leek was very fragrant with lots of flavoring and spices. I thought it was a bit too salty though but nothing more rice wouldn't fix. The stewed beef was definitely my favorite! Very generous portion of sliced beef and lots of cabbage that soaked the sauce nicely. If only there was some kind of vermicelli noodle to go with it!! My only disappointment was that it was just barely spicy I also ordered a cup of fresh soya milk that they make in house daily-- it was of great value at only $1.50 but the taste was pretty average. Little Garden - Szechuan Near Me - Bellevue, Washington

Been a rather regular patron with family and friends last 2+ decades till the original owner (husband and wife) were no longer there (~ early 2020?). Still occasionally popped in. Sadly, Little Garden has obviously made a rapid dive since then. Today: *Service - worst. consistently very bad for a while now. day and night contrast to the days when the owner(s) were present. *Servers' mannerism (especially there is a middle-aged woman) - habitually rude and explosive, as though all diners owe her something. *Food - normal - realize there are tons of similar cuisine in Bellevue/Redmond/Seattle today - many are a notch higher - better ambiance and newer, similar price point, significantly faster service, waiters/waitress that eagerly welcome and ready to serve diners, those that professionally treat diners with respect and dignity. * Wait time after order - unbelievably long. (just look up what other reviewers had posted) Even if the food is good, it upset me and ruined my appetite and mood to see how arriving diners and others were harshly treated. I will no longer go there. Many of my eating buddies said the same. There are already many similar cuisines within walking distance, or within 5 mins driving distance, from this crude service place.
