The space is minimally decorated, very small, but the food makes up for the lack of pizazz. There was a lady at the front window hand wrapping dumplings, it was a chive and pork wonton. We ordered that, pan fried wontons. It was good but the highlight of the meal was the Shanghai king dumpling and the braised pork on dry noodles. Wow those are amazing. Definitely worth the hype! This is closer to a 3.5 than a 4, a decent experience. I came here a couple weeks ago for lunch and have been curious about the place since it was in the same area as Zhangliang malatang and had a good amount of people inside. The space is small and a little narrow, so seating can be pretty limited. My parents and I were lucky enough to grab the last table, and we ordered 4 items: the dry noodle with scallion oil and braised pork chop, the secret dumplings, large wonton, and salty soy milk (dumplings and wonton aren't pictured). I was most curious and most disappointed by the scallion noodle and pork chop. The portion size seemed too small to justify its price point, and I felt the pork chop tasted dry. The noodles however, had a great flavor, so if I were to try the place again, I'd only go for the scallion oil noodles. The dumplings were amazing. They were a little pricey but worth the cost, and worth the restaurant name. The dumplings were larger than most dumpling places I've been to, and the meat and soup inside were super flavorful. The wontons were also good, though it can't beat the pan fried dumplings. The salty soy milk was a very unique experience- it was thicker, rich and flavorful than other salty soy milk soups that I'm used to. It almost has an umami, seafood-ish taste to it. Though I'm not a big fan of soy milk, I enjoyed this dish more than expected! After our meal, we got to choose some magnets to take home, which was a creative and sweet gift. For the overall price point, I don't think I'd be coming here regularly for a meal. I may drop by for choice items like the pan fried dumplings! read more

Shanghai dumpling king is located in the Bel-Red area. There's a big parking lot that's never been too full when I've went. It's not super spacious inside but has a good amount of seating. They do offer ordering through a QR code on the table but you'll have to pay up at the front when you're ready. I would definitely say it's a solid spot if you're craving dumplings but not a standout for me, I would go back if I was in the area but not out of the way. Sanitation: 4/5 Staff: 5/5 Dumpling King (5/5) I thought these dumpling were really good, the filing was very unique in the flavor profile. There was a subtle sweetness to the filing. It was big and juicy and had a little bit of soup inside too so make sure to wait before chomping down. Scallion oil Noodles (5/5) These scallion oil noodles were good but nothing to rave about. I would definitely order this again and if you haven't tried but enjoy scallions it would be a good choice. The bok Choi was a good addition but the dish overall left feelings of that it was missing something to make it great. Wontons (3.5/5) I think the wontons were only okay in the soup. It was a seaweed soup that had a nice mild flavor but was my least favorite out of the dishes we tried. This is the definition of a no frills place. Don't expect much in the way of vibes or service, but the food is very flavorful and the wontons are juicy and you can see them hand wrapping them in the front of the restaurant. We got a combo with their pan fried dumplings, wonton soup, and a tea egg (which was SO good), and then a plate of the pan fried wontons which were my favorite. We would both recommend the pan fried wontons way over the pan fried dumplings. There is plenty of parking and you just have to walk in and order with a QR code and then pay at the front when you're done. I didn't try their noodles as they seemed a bit expensive. A-OK restaurant with Chinese eats in the Bridle Trails neighborhood in Bellevue. Shanghai Dumpling King is known for their king dumplings, but they have a good amount of other items on their menu, including soups, noodles and small plates. We visited Shanghai Dumpling King for dinner one night and the place was pretty steady with patrons dining in on a weekday evening. My partner ordered the wonton soup while I had the pork chop noodle soup, and we shared the king dumplings and soy milk. Everything was satisfactory. Nothing outstanding, but nothing terrible. The pork chop noodle soup was fine. Although the pork chop was tender, it was dry, so unfortunately, wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. The king dumplings were a large size, but I found them overly fried. I'm also biased towards steamed dumplings over fried ones, so this wasn't my cup of tea. But my partner really enjoyed them, and he liked his wonton soup a lot as the wontons were plump with its filling of pork and chives. Overall, Shanghai Dumpling King was A-OK. Solid place for dumplings and wonton! Came here a few days ago with my family for lunch. Small restaurant, probably only seats 15 people max. Their dumplings are rolled fresh, and everything tasted made to order. Menu is limited with only a few combo variations like wonton with dumplings or scallion noodles with soy milk. Everything was pretty bland overall. The bok choy might have been my favorite dish. I'm honestly not sure if the food is meant to be subtle in flavor, but most of the dishes felt like they were missing seasoning or depth. We ordered about seven dishes, and unfortunately none of them really stood out in terms of taste. The ambience is very much a hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop style spot, which I usually love. I also noticed that many other reviews mention the food being flavorful, so it's possible the seasoning was just off the day we visited. - avoid braised pork chop - I wanted the pot stickers again, so we visited this place again on a weekday around 5:30 pm. There were 3 empty tables and nobody was waiting when we left around 6:35 pm. We noticed the free water bottles got smaller, and they now serve a complimentary boiled edamame on the house. We ordered the soup noodle with braised pork chop $18.99 and two dumpling kings $11.99 X 2. The noodle soup came first. I didn't like it as much as the dry noodles, and we ordered the braised pork chop even though our friend said it wasn't that good despite it being a signature. The braised pork chop was dry even though it was served in the soup. The noodles were tasty, but not as tasty as the dry noodles. I also found the soup a bit salty, though I drank a ton of soup since it was cold. The pot stickers were still great but I think 6 per person is too much. I think 3 was a better portion since I didn't really enjoy it that much in the end despite it being super juicy as last time. This was a recommendation from more than one foodie on IG, and I just had to try this place out! I went with a friend here on a Friday night around 6:30pm to a full house and a waiting list. I liked how the servers and hosts were very friendly throughout my entire visit here, while conversing with me in my somewhat broken Mandarin, while also getting my friend and me the utensils and water we needed for the very tasty meal. The inside is very brightly lit up but kinda cramped with very limited seating. We got many dishes, so I'll break them down like how I usually do: - The dumpling king was the most recommended from hearsay from friends who've already been here. These were my favorite, mostly because they were crispy and fresh, and had some hot - pretty piping hot - soup inside too. - I don't really like chives, but the ones in the secret stuffing large wonton dish didn't overpower the filling, so I was actually able to eat a lot of the wontons. The soup base was somewhat bland, but that actually helped out a lot since most of the dishes were relatively salty over time. - The stirred dried noodle with scallion oil and a braised pork chop was an odd mix of flavors that somehow worked. The pork chop was somewhat dry, but the noodles more than made up for that. - Not pictured: the curry beef vermicelli soup was all right. It was spicy as I expected. This place only has 8 tables, so be prepared for a tight squeeze but the food is great. The dumpling king (dumplings?) are excellent packed with soup in a crispy satisfying skin. The scallion oil noodles are also standout - but the braised pork chop was a little on the dry side but was still good. We also had some wontons in clear soup which was a bit alright, nothing special. this place seems like it's semi-soft opening, with bottled water for guests and plastic forks but I'd come back again for the noodles and dumplings for sure. It seems like this place is still a bit under the radar so the line wasn't too long on a saturday at 6pm - but once it picks up it might get a bit crazy as the restaurant is tiny. read more

We look everywhere for recommendations! This one came from a YouTube video. We were going to Seattle for the weekend and looking for a restaurant stop in Bellevue. Saw this YouTube video and was intrigued. Interestingly, it is just a few minutes from Bubble Planet which was great! The place is in a plaza and is small with just a few tables. We came at around past 1PM and it was not busy. So we were a little skeptical. We ordered several dishes to share so we could sample a lot. The dumplings were of good size and flavorful. Their dumpling soup reminded me of our Molo soup back in the Philippines. Really good and hits the spot. The noodles were cooked just right, not soggy nor oily. And I'd say they were priced just right. The service was good. May need to listen carefully though as their accent is thick. But very cordial and attentive. It was a good discovery, I may say. Went to look for fried dumplings to eat and find this place. First, walked in, the front has a display of the workers making dumplings which was strange. I thought we went to the back of the restaurant. Ambiance was alright. The food was the main thing, it wasn't entirely bad. We order Pork Chop Noodle, 2 orders of fried dumplings, and dry noodles with braised pork chop. Firstly, the dumplings did not have enough filling. The meat was too little. There was too much dough used for dumpling skin. Way too much soup. Very disappointing. Secondly, the dry noodles with braised pork chop was a disappointment due to the noodles did not have much flavor to it. The pork chop tasted like it was boiled first then drenched in the sauce. Pretty solid spot for Shanghainese food in the Eastside. The wait time is a bit longer and my name got skipped but thankfully they got right back to me after I pointed it out. I ordered the Shanghai dumpling king and the pork chop with scallion oil noodles. The Shanghai dumpling king consisted of pan fried dumplings with soup filling that reminded me of shengjianbao. We've been here 3 times.. we like the food, but the galley style is quite off-putting.. A couple of things I absolutely abhor, and one is cleanliness related and hence my rating 1. What's with the mini plastic water bottles. And they'll only give you one and never a second unless you ask. The food can be spicy and the place is always too hot, so we need extra water and feel embarrassed to ask for another bottle. Weird practice!! I wonder if this is the owners just being cheap. 2. Those disgusting chili oil containers!! The lids are caked with dried oil and chilli flakes gunk, like they've never been cleaned ever.. As mentioned, we been there multiple times and it's always that disgusting. Only a matter of time before someone has major tummy issues. Clean the table containers people!! read more

This is the US branch of Shanghai Dumpling King in BC. I am a fan of their restaurant up north, and we're delighted to learn they opened a branch on the US side. Food is as wonderful with some small differences (portion & price). The restaurant used to be another restaurant called Little Taipei. It's always a gamble when you go to a new restaurant that is named after a city and or a type of food. 99% of the time turned out to be: oh. Another disappointment. I supposed the 1% still exists. I ordered the combo and was surprised by the tea egg and the wonton soup. Shanghainese food in Seattle had been a disappointment.. at least for wonton soup and tea eggs. This place has the best tea eggs in Seattle.. The wonton soup was delicious.. tasted like what you would get in Shanghai. Pot stickers were good as theybwer every juicy.
