I visited Little Matt's on a Saturday night with my wife and our 19-month-old toddler, curious to see why it was named #1 Kid-Friendly Restaurant in the Nation by Yelp for 2025. The restaurant's story is touching. Founded by Bill and Cindy Lillard in memory of their son, Bobby, proceeds benefit Texas Children's Hospital and other local organizations. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed with families and kids of all ages. There's a small outdoor patio with four tables, a back patio with more seating, and inside you order everything at the counter before they bring it to your table. The staff, mostly younger workers, were friendly and playful with my son. Entertainment options are everywhere. There's a mini arcade room, iPad stations, a candy counter, and a photo booth. If you have young toddlers, they have high chairs available as well. [KIDS MENU] +Hamburger for $7.95 - Served with fruit and fries. My son enjoyed it all, and the fruit was grapes. - 5/5 [SALADS] +Caesar Salad for $11.95 - Very basic, with ranch dressing provided on the side. I would skip this. - 2/5 [BURGERS AND SANDWICHES] +Little Matt's Cheeseburger for $11.95 - Cooked medium with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion on a toasted bun, served with seasoned fries. A decent burger, but not particularly memorable. - 3.5/5 Service was friendly and quick, and the whole place felt like a neighborhood hangout where families spend hours. Overall, Little Matt's is about the atmosphere and community more than the food. If you're local, this is the kind of spot your kids will grow up with and never forget. If you're coming from further away, it's worth experiencing once for the family-friendly vibe and cause, but the food for adults is just okay.

The food was amazing, the service is counter service and the ambiance is very very family friendly. Lots of kids and families. It was packed so get there early. They close at 8:00 pm so plan accordingly. Definitely read the about us story on the website. It was such an inspiration and really one of the many reasons we wanted to come here. So this place some love and go enjoy some good food. Fun, happening, casual dress kid friendly spot. Good job Little Matt's

A beloved institution in the West U scene, Little Matt's is often recognized as a comfort food destination that is idea for a casual meal or a family friendly outing. Given their hearty portions, affordable prices, and outstanding customer service, it's not a surprise they're among the highest rated spots in the city. They've done a good job of utilizing the overall space, with lots of seating for both their interior and outdoor courtyard space. Everything from napkins, utensils, condiments, boxes and water are self serve and adults can enjoy the various TVs playing sports and news, while the kids can enjoy the arcade area. The bathrooms are clean and youngins are free to roam around freely. Their claim to fame has been their burgers, which have garnered some acclaim both locally and nationally. They're hefty and plenty filling, but I tend to prefer my patties to be less well done and more on the rare side. The chips and queso + salsa are basic, but I appreciate the amount of chips provided, which is perfect for a group to share. The fries have a strangely salty and addictive quality to it, but I can't put my finger on why. If there was a lowlight, it was going to be for the pastas. The mac and cheese was soft boiled noodles with some cheese sauce and the penne in marina is really aimed at young children looking for a little sustenance before running around the place. The wait staff are all young folks and the management is very good about keeping things efficient and constantly going. They made such a wonderful impression on me that I intend on making Little Matt's a regular stop whenever I'm feeling like burgers and a little bit of food coma.

I don't know what took so long for us to try little Matt's, considering we live in the area, but thankfully we did, because it is now one of our family's usual! Every time we've been, we've felt very taken care of, the food is good, and we absolutely love that it's so kid friendly. Our favorite dish here is hands down the chicken enchiladas. To be honest, my husband and I were not enchiladas fan until we had the one from little Matt's. The chicken wrapped in a warm tortilla covered with delicious green enchilada sauce and cheesy goodness is so so good. Top that with some sour cream, salsa, and lettuce...perfection. Now we come here all the time just for this dish, and we also frequently order enchiladas from other places. Little Matt's has made us enchiladas converts! I also really enjoy the chicken tortilla soup on a cold day or when I'm feeling a little under the weather. I love that the soup is full of veggies (zucchini and yellow squash), and the broth is not overly salted. It's so homey and comforting, and comes in a huge gigantic bowl so you feel nice and satisfied at the end. Also love that you can sub fries for extra fruits in the kids meal, as our 6 year old is part fruit-i-vore. Come check out little Matt's for some homey comfort food with your kids (or friends who have kids). You won't be disappointed!

You know I'm upset that I've been in Houston for 8 years and I just now found this place. The food was amazing! The burger was perfect. Service was great! And ambiance was chill. Can't wait to come back.

Good food and an even better cause! It's one thing to serve tasty food at a decent price but it is another thing to give back to help others in need. Proceeds from their sales are donated to organizations that help children with health issues and that is a wonderful thing to do. With so many options, it was hard to land on the comfort burger. The burger was dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, gauc on the side, and cheese. The buns were pillowy soft and the patty itself was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and flavorful. The options for sides are fries, garlic fries, and sweet potato fries. I opted for garlic fries and they did not disappoint. The fries are doused in actual chunks of garlic and the flavors were fantastic. I will be back for sure.

We stopped at this restaurant to grab to take on a picnic. We ordered the Santa Barbara sourdough burger and some Mac and cheese, chicken tenders with fries for the kids. The food was ok. Nothing special. The fries were mushy and not fresh. Might have been because we did takeout. Maybe it would be better had we eaten at the restaurant. The burger was ok. Again, nothing to rave about. The place was cute though.

To start off with a positive, I thought the falafel patty had a really great taste and was absolutely the highlight of the burger. But outside of that the burger and the toppings I ordered just didn't work as well as I would've liked. I ordered my burger with mushrooms and sauteed onions, both toppings I know I absolutely love from making burgers at home and from other spots, but neither added much. At first I was worried that the falafel was overpowering them both but upon eating them by themselves they just lacked taste. We also got the scallion aioli on the burger and I never got a hint of it at any point. All in all, the burger was very much mediocre outside of the patty. We also got fries with the burger and while they absolutely had some potential they were extremely over seasoned. Any appreciation for the seasonings in a vacuum was immediately overshadowed by how salty they were. We also ordered the Sambal Mayo as a dipping sauce and while it did help subdue the insane salt level and overall tasted quite good, upon writing this review I found out by looking at their online menu that it contained some amount of shrimp. This information is nowhere to be seen on the ordering slip and wasn't mentioned when I handed it over to the person working at the cash register. And while I definitely accept some level of responsibility for not doing my due diligence and asking or letting them know of my dietary restrictions, it's still an extremely frustrating thing to have happen as both a vegetarian and someone with a mild shellfish allergy. If for whatever reason the online menu is out of date or I missed an obvious indication of it containing shrimp somewhere I am more than happy to edit my review.

The interior has an industrial vibe, with the high ceilings and overhead fixtures, but as converted into a solid dining space. The large tilted mirrors in the main area are reminiscent of the now defunct Helen's (#3) and makes for a fun (or perhaps distracting) visual. The spacious layout allows breathing room for all kinds of groups. Service has been good overall, and prompt throughout every visit. The American bistro inspired menu has a decent amount of variety that spans from brunch to a tasty weeknight dinner and a drink. Their starters have a variety of tasty bites that include the white truffle eggs, wicked wings, prosciutto-melon burrata, Mama Pauley's meatballs, and a very addicting chipotle pimento cheese dip. While I appreciate the vegan-friendly hippie chickpea croquettes, it needed just a bit more seasoning. Their bacon double cheeseburger has been deemed "insta-famous" and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's juicy, a little messy, but a lot delicious. It paired well with their large cut fries (consider upgrading to the truffle fries), but the house made chips are also a good light bite. Their salads are equally fabulous from their classic caesar to a hearty cobb salad. I wasn't as impressed with the crunchy Asian salad, but thought their faro salad was a thumbs up. Understandably, the priciest meals are some of their grilled and house specialty meals, such as a prime tenderloin filet ($42), Mediterranean roasted redfish ($36), twelve hour ribs ($29), and rosemary-lemon chicken ($29), all of which are solid. I feel the buttermilk chicken tender platter ($19) is really meant for children, but is great for any tender lover in the bunch.
