My fav dish though was def the fish fillets. They were so crispy and mildly spicy but salty too. The squid was also addicting. If you're looking for a heartwarming meal, you gotta get the stew and soak in all the juices with the baos! My firend's fav part of the whole meal was the cute rabbit shaped tofu pudding at the end. I really enjoyed trying Dongbei (Northeastern Chinese) cuisine here! The dishes were unique and different from the usual Chinese food you see around NYC. Everything we tried was flavorful and definitely worth exploring if you're looking for something new. Some of my favorites were the eggplant salad, rainbow glass noodle salad, Dongbei o-pot stew, Dongbei sweet & sour pork, and Cuimin beef. The sweet & sour pork and beef were especially tasty! Came on a Saturday evening at 7pm for two and were seated immediately. The restaurant is pretty big with more seatings inside, despite what it looks like from the outside. We got- - Braised Pork Bone: the waiter recommended as a Dongbei specialty but it was nothing special, meat was tender though - Boiled Fish: big portion served in a huge bowl. Lots of Sichuan peppercorn but the soup base spicy level is just right paired with rice - Sweet & Sour Pork: must get. Delicious. The pork was fried super thin and crispy and the sauce was just enough to coat and stick on the meat Service was very slow, we waited 20 mins between each dish. The waiter was apologetic as she noted the chef cooks each dish as they come in. They are still relatively new; we were patient and hope they work out the pacing going forward. read more

Also, they have a $13 lunch special, and rice isn't included with entrees Recommendations- Skewers, Guaborou/Sweet and Sour Pork, Tofu Pudding (which is free with a follow on IG,) and Three Treasures/Disanxian were our favorites. One Pot Stew and the Cumin Fish were also good Anyway, this is a new Chinese spot on Division where Gangnam Korean BBQ was. It's a large place, and the food was pricey for the area, but very tasty overall. They are specifically Dongbei, or Northeastern Chinese, and have some dishes you only find in that region, such as spicy chicken cartilage, pork with pickled cabbage stew, and others. The staff was accommodating and friendly. To drink, they have a beer from Dongbei and a surprisingly large cocktail menu for a Chinese place, but I went with a sparkling hawthorn drink for $6, which was tasty. The first plate that arrived was the Rainbow Glass Noodle Salad/五彩拉皮 for $18, with wide glass noodles, shredded pork, shredded veggies, and sesame dressing. The glass noodles had a bit of chew, the fresh veggies had some good crunch, and the dressing had a nice mix of nuttiness, some sourness, and a bit of sweetness. It was tasty and a nice light bite to start. Next to arrive was a signature dish of the region, the Traditional Dongbei Sweet & Sour Pork/锅包肉, listed as crispy pork slices, sherry vinegar glaze, flash fried, for $23. Also known as guaborou, this is not your typical Chinese-American General Tso's with the pork having a very light fry, which still had a good crunch. The sauce was not super sweet with a bit of sourness. This was delicious and one of my recommendations. There were also the various skewers listed on a separate menu, which was listed as one of their specialties outside. As we were a table of six, I ordered five of the Premium Lamb Skewers for $13 and added one extra Red Willow Beef Skewer for $6. As can be guessed from the price, the willow ones are much larger and meatier, and the beef one, as the lamb wasn't available, was delicious with some cumin and chili on the side. The other people loved their skewers as well. Another dish was the $23 Cumin Fish Filet/孜然鱼片, listed as crispy fish filets with cumin and spices. As per the description, they were less numbing than the Szechuan variant without many peppercorns. This led to a stronger cumin flavor, with there also being some dried and fresh chilies on the plate as well. Just like the pork, I was happy that they weren't overly fried, so we could still taste the tender fish. This was also good. Rounding out the main meat dishes was the Dongbei One-Pot Stew/东北一锅出 for $39, listed as a hearty dish of braised pork ribs, vegetables, and beans in an iron pot. This was one of the few dishes that didn't require a side of rice as it came with six steamed mantou. This was easily the largest dish, which makes sense from the price point. The pork was very tender, and the dish as a whole had a mild sweetness. From the flavor, I presume there was some five-spice powder, which also made sense from the star anise on the bottom. The vegetables inside, consisting of corn, potatoes, and carrots, absorbed the flavor well. For vegetables, we ordered two, and they were both good. My preference was the $20 Three Treasures of the Earth/地三鲜, or eggplant, potato, and green pepper stir-fried in garlic and soy. Also known as disanxian, this was a comforting dish with the vegetables braised and soft with both savory and a mild sweet flavor. I liked this a lot, as with the rest of the group. The other vegetable was the simply prepared Garlic Pea Shoots/蒜蓉豆苗 for $20, consisting of lightly sauteed fresh pea shoots and minced garlic. The vegetables were fresh, and the portion was plentiful, but I wish the garlic flavor were a bit stronger. It was still perfectly fine. With an IG follow, they gave us a free dessert, which turned out to be the tofu pudding/douhua, which was topped with a blueberry and a lightly floral syrup. Normally $5, this was an excellent version with a soft, silky texture and a mild vanilla flavor. It reminded me of a slightly better, but plainer version of Fong On nearby, and I would recommend it. The prices might be a bit high, but the restaurant is gigantic and closer to the LES, so it makes sense, unfortunately. Excellent place if we want to try some unique Dongbei dishes. read more

This is a brand new spot and I was very excited to try it, as there are not many restaurants serving dongbei food in NYC. The restaurant itself is very large, clean and well decorated and the service is luxuriously attentive. I was provided with a pitcher of cucumber infused ice water, which had a good amount of cucumber flavor and really elevated the experience for me. I ordered the dongbei stew, which arrived dramatically in a large iron pot which had to be carried by two servers. My server helpfully instructed me that I did not need to order rice with this dish, as it comes with a side of 6 steamed mantou. These were extremely soft and fluffy with a texture that reminded me of kings Hawaiian rolls. The pillowy, pure white little buns offer a mild sweetness and when saturated with the rich liquid of this stew, they provide a perfect juicy bite. The stew contained small juicy pieces of pork which easily fell away from the bones, as well as a variety of vegetables. Sweet, tender pieces of carrot are cooked perfectly and not mushy, alongside creamy potato, soft green beans, and pieces of corn on the cob. I believe this corn is a different kind than I am used to as the kernels seemed slightly larger and had a much less watery texture. They have a rich chew to them and they have absorbed much of the flavorful liquid they were cooked in. The soup is rich and savory with the fragrance of star anise and soy sauce. I really enjoyed my meal here and hope to return soon. read more

I couldn't believe that the "Grandma Braised Pork Belly" cost $32 considering the small portion size, the quality of the meat, and the excessive amount of oil. To make matters worse, it didn't taste good either. The Crispy Milk was also disappointing. I've had this dish at several other restaurants, and those versions were much better, so I wouldn't recommend ordering it here. The staff recommended the Rainbow Glass Noodle Salad. It may appeal to some people, but personally, I didn't enjoy it. The Sweet & Sour Pork was the best dish we tried, but one good dish wasn't enough to make up for the poor value and disappointing quality of the others. Seriously, loved my meal here. Tried a bunch of new dishes. I never have and was blown away by some of them. The eggplant with century egg and garlic sauce is an absolute must try. The conch with scallion oil is so delicious and interesting and unique. The sweet-and-sour pork is unlike any other I've had before. Lamb ribs were cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed this restaurant, the staff are super friendly and hard-working. The space is big, the lighting is nice, comfortable dining experience. The food option is vast, great place to come with a large group of family. I had a nice dining experience here. The one constructive criticism I have for this wonderful place is the chef / cooks are heavy handed on salt and sauces for every dish, I would come more often if they can use their sauces - salt - MSG with more sparingly. Restaurant was rather empty, we ordered a few items off the menu. The server was very rude and would not allow us to order two desserts, which we were confused about. The food itself was also not great, the Dongbei Sweet and Sour Pork was chewy and did not contain much meat. The candied sweet potato came with the rest of our dishes and because it was one of those desserts you had to eat once made, we were rushing to eat it alongside our main dishes. Overall the food and service was not great and we were disappointed by this spot. We will most likely not be returning because of our experience. read more

We came in knowing that we wanted to try the candied sweet potato but were open to trying other dishes on the menu. The place was large (with a back seating area and a small bar at the front). Oddly, once we got seated and were handed menus, we had a very interesting waitress. She seemed as if she wanted us to order exactly what she thought was best. At no point did we ask for her recommendations nor called her out on her odd behavior. She was almost passive aggressive when we said we wanted something else and she made comments on the food we did want to order. We reluctantly tried telling her to give us a couple minutes but then were faced with being relayed that our order had already been placed when it was not fully agreed upon. The food that did arrive was not up to expectations. It was neither clean (in taste) nor flavorful. Again, confused. Additionally, we all had stomach problems afterwards (first meal of the day for all of us so was so unsure why there were issues digesting it). We left this spot frustrated and confused with both the food we ate but mostly the service, that seemed like the waitress was going to eat the food we were ordering (as the customers). read more

Walking into the restaurant, the space seemed quite large, but relatively empty (3 tables filled but over 10 in the front space of the restaurant). We eventually got seated and started to look at the menu. We initially were very excited to come here and to try the candied sweet potatoes, however decided to sit down and order the dongbei sweet and sour pork, rainbow glass noodle salad, and the fried corn pancakes as well. While ordering, our server was extremely pushy and forceful about her suggestions for what we should eat. She stated that we had only one meat dish, and that we should swap the fried corn pancakes for another meat dish (mind you we never asked for any suggestions, even if we did, this would not be the way to communicate them). We told her no, however she continuously insisted on ordering a meat dish instead, and recommended the cumin fish filets again. We told her if we could get five extra minutes to think about what we should get, and she seemed put-off from our ask. When requesting to finalize our order, and stick to our initial one, she had stated she already put in the order for the cumin fish filet. So, instead of our initial order, the corn pancakes ended up being swapped with the cumin fish filet. Upon the arrival of the dishes, we were surprised that we had all of the dishes-including the candied sweet potatoes to come that were listed under dessert on the menu. The timing of the dishes were inconvenient, and we felt as if we were rushed to eat all of the food to get the best experience. The dongbei sweet and sour pork was sickly sweet and overly chewy due to lack of actual protein and a thick coating of batter. The slice of pork was extremely thin that it felt like I had ordered a confused mochi that couldn't decide if it was savory or sweet. This was followed by a noodle salad dish that tasted like it was boiled and thrown on our plates. It came with sesame sauce that lacked of any flavor. Then, the cumin fish filets were dry and oddly, also very empty of any flavor. It felt like I was eating sand and this was the consensus across our party. Lastly, the candied sweet potatoes was hardly edible as it was harder than a rock and this was due to the rushed service (or lack of) and terrible timing. Overall, the food and the service did not meet our expectations, and not one dish was up to par. I would not return to this establishment. It seems as Google closed their reviews as there were a number of overly positive reviews, which contradicted the experience I had. read more
