Short rib bao was fantastic! The bao was pillowy soft and paired fantastic with the very tender short rib and kimchee. Must try! You won't be disappointed. Now on to the mushroom jook which did not live up to the hype for me. There was no depth of flavor and all I tasted was hints of peppercorns and salt. Dont be put off by the bowl size as I was pretty full after eating it. The service was fantastic and one of the best I've had in awhile. Enjoy! read more

Went here to try it out, it isn't a big spot and it looked like reservations were recommended so I used resy to make a reservation. They're tucked inside Manoa Market place by the USPS store and right behind the newly (?) redesigned playground. I really liked the atmosphere that they have going for them. We were greeted right away and sat promptly, it is a little bit on the noisier side but we could still have good conversations! They have a really interesting cocktail menu! I think the sides were where it's at, but we ordered some entrees, i got the Menchi Katsu which was nice and crispy! The service was good, they checked up on us regularly and was helpful with answering any questions we had about the dishes. We ended with dessert, the mochi churro. It was probably the best thing we had all night. One of our servers said getting the pudding and the mochi churro was a thing that she always recommends and that's one of the combos that they're known for, wish the other server said something! read more

As long time supporters of MVT, we're always looking for new dining opportunities near the theater. Not sure why it's taken us this long to notice Little Plum, but we tried it out last Saturday and we're delighted. It is very accessible, with handicap parking right out front. The space is well laid out, if rather noisy. Reservations are a must, as it is quite popular -- for good reasons. The service was excellent. We were well attended to, without being hovered over, and the server was knowledgeable about both the food and wine list. We enjoyed the Kalbi bao, angus skewers (so tender!!) , tempura and corn ribs. It was all delicious, with flavorful sauces and beautifully seasoned. We will definitely be back! Hidden in the Manoa Marketplace next to the Post Office, this was the first time I've been here. Initially I was taken back at how crowded it was. Glad I made reservations. I ordered the mixed tempura teishoku. It was mixed tempura with a local twist using Hawaii veggies. The food was good. It was a bit overrated. Service really fell short as well as the food. Had an interesting menu, but felt a bit empty. The server was nice, but maybe misguided us on the menu. I think I have finally found the perfect restaurant. As a self-proclaimed foodie with two rambunctious kids that are pretty picky eaters, it is rare that my family ends up at a restaurant that everyone loves. Little Plum has done just that. My husband and I had visited Little Plum once before during a special ume tasting menu night and we both had a great time. I always wanted to go back and try out their regular menu, and finally got the chance to do so tonight. If the restaurant was at any other location, I probably would have waited until we had babysitters for the kids before going again, but with Little Plum nestled right behind the new(ish) play structure at Manoa Marketplace, I figured that I could take the kids outside to play in the time period between when we ordered and when the food arrived. However, as soon as we arrived, the waitress handed us an origami instruction book and origami paper. I'm pretty sure it was for the kids but my husband and I definitely got involved as well.... And as soon as the wait staff saw we were on our final papers, they offered to bring over more. When I asked the kids if they wanted to go outside to play on the structure, they declined - fascinated by the origami book! In the midst of all that, a waitress also asked if I wanted a basket to hold my purse in. This restaurant really has thought of everything. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. My five-year-old ordered off the keiki menu while the rest of us got a teishoku dish (ahi tataki, mixed tempura, and fried chicken adobo). We also started with 2 orders of the kalbi shortrib bao and the ume tomato. Everything came out so quickly and was executed perfectly. I could have licked the ume tomato plate clean! I hate asking restaurants to make adjustments to their dishes, but thanks to my picky eater children, I often end up with a laundry list of requests for the servers. They handled all the requests with such ease and grace and even anticipated some of the requests before we even made it. I also thought it was so cute that they had "practice chopsticks" for my kids to use. Open since June, this was our first visit to Little Plum located in Manoa Valley but it won't be our last. An excellent Teishoku style Japanese restaurant with traditional Japanese fare with a modern spin. Service could not be better! Everyone there seemed totally invested in providing an excellent experience. The decor is casual but elegant and my only criticism of the space is that it's a bit loud, but with food this good...I'll gladly ignore my dining partner in crime! Tomato salad with shiso, ume vinaigrette and whipped tofu was a wonderful start to yhe meal. Spicy Miso Eggplant is an umami explosion of creamy goodness. Menchi Katsu (Hamburg Steak Katsu) is crispy and meaty with a delicious mushroom gravy and a perfectly cooked onsen egg over rice. We loved the tsukemono, miso soup and namal that came with the meal. Do NOT leave this restaurant without ordering the mochi churros. Seriously. Pro-tip: you can make any of the bowls into a Teishoku set...just ask. We can't wait to go back! read more

One of the best new restaurants in 2024 in my opinion. Little Plum is tucked inside of Manoa Marketplace and scared me just a bit because of the incredibly comprehensive alcohol menu and very small food menu. I'm so glad we visited despite my reservations, because the food, ambiance, service and overall experience was one of the best I've had this year. The drinks were delicious. I love that they have a non-alcoholic menu and the food menu was so comforting, as it was their take on Asian comfort foods that I grew up with. Something as simple as their Spicy Miso Eggplant was just so mindblowingly incredible with bursts of tangy, spicy, creaminess in each bite. The Mushroom Jook was like my grandma's jook, but better hahaha it warms your body and soul with a variety of textures and umami rich flavors. The Kalbi Short Rib Bao took me by surprise. Not only was the meat unbelievably tender, but the housemade kimchi provided a nice tang that went well with the slightly sweet and savory bao. The service was beyond incredible, with all the servers and host looking out for us at all times and checking in to see how they could make our experience the best. There's lots of shared parking in the lot, and i'd highly suggest making reservations like we did, because it was packed the whole time we were there. read more

The friendliest service I've had from the front to table - was warmly greeted and checked on multiple times but not in an overbearing way but just warm and caring. The space is really nice - very wide open and not crowded with comfy booths and tables and a nice looking bar. Gets a little loud when full. Wanted to dry cocktails but my reflux was acting up so chose to focus on food. All of it was terrific! The tomatoes were so fresh and simple and unique! My favorite dish bc they were a surprise. The daikon and pohole was excellent and acidic and crunchy - reminds me of a dish at mud hen water but this one was more elevated and balanced. Got the miso eggplant as just the entree without the teishoku - that charred flavor on the eggplant was perfect and the miso was not overpowering or too salty. The ribeye skewers also as an entree without the teishoku was excellent - that kimchi relish was a perfect accompaniment. Wanted to get both the churros and pudding for dinner but too full. Got the churros only and super light and chewy mochi - couldn't appreciate the kinako though. Overall really fresh, unique, delicious food and nice space and definitely wanna go back! read more

Our first time trying this spot since it opened in Mānoa and we were so so impressed! Service was great and quick. We had the tomato, cucumber, and bao small plates to start. The tomatoes & bao were amazing and the cucumbers were good! Then for entrees we had the beef skewers, menchi katsu, fried chicken adobo, beef cheek stew, and mushroom jook. Everything was amazing and perfectly cooked! Finally we had the mochi churros for dessert which was the perfect end to our meal. They even gave us white rabbit candies with the check. The only reason we give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was VERY loud inside, almost too loud to hear our party speak to each other. So glad we decided to give Little Plum a try. Had several of the dishes recommended by other Yelpers and they they did not disappoint - the Short ribs Bao, the spicy eggplant, and the menchi katsu. The spicy eggplant was our favorite. For dessert, we had the mochi churros (Yummm!). We will go back to try the other dishes. Food came out in reasonable amount of time. It was a little noisy in the restaurant but that's because they were packed on a cold, rainy, windy night on Oahu. We did not make reservations and were able to walk in. We loved Little Plum! Came for my bf birthday and it was such a nice experience. We had lunch and had booked a reservation in advance since we know it has been popular. Our server, K (I'm sorry i forgot her name but her name was so pretty and started with a K or C) was so attentive and surprised us with samples of the seasonal drink since it was a birthday celebration. We started with a drink with a matcha beer for my partner which we have had before and loved. Extra plus for having a cold beer glass. I got the same same but different drink, Was light flavor of matcha and wonderful umeshu. We then followed with the Rayu Cucumber which reminded me of the din tai fun cucumbers. We also had the kalbi shortrib bao, our favorite of the meal since it was so juicy and flavorful. Would get the bao alone it was so good. For the full meal, I got the Teishoku set of the Ahi Tataki. I loved the mushroom miso soup since i'm a mushroom lover as well as the pickles! The ahi was good with the onion crunch and was surprised to see the sea asparagus (pickle weed). I remember eating it on hikes. My bf got the menchi katsu which was really good. He liked the sauce on top as well as the egg. The inside was cute and had lots of seating. The bar was so pretty and had so many options. I also loved the Japanese ambiance. A delightful little gem of a place located in Manoa Marketplace on first floor where former Bank of Hawaii branch was. Close to Subway, Sushi, and L&L with free parking. Made a rez for 12:00 (I highly recommend) and place was busy but hostess was very friendly and sat us at a table for two by window. There are also large booths raised up a little and a nice sized bar on the other side. Lots of new dishes to choose from but I had to try the Ume Tomato salad which was just the right amount of tart to sweet and very refreshing and tasty! I should have ordered another one to take home! For the main course I had the Teishoku Mixed Tempura which came with large pieces of egg plant, potato, green bean and shrimp. A very delicate panko which was light and airy, not oily and heavy. Our server was delightful and suggested we try the Mochi Churro for dessert - a house favorite- and when it arrived piping hot cut into bite-sized pieces with a creamy sweet dipping sauce we understood why! Perfect way to top off our light but satisfying meal. Since it was lunch we didn't imbibe but looking at the cocktail, beer, wine and spirits they have an awesome selection and not your typical bar labels. We will return at pau hana to try the Echigo Weizen and Matcha IPA also another drink called "Like Cracks" just because of its name! At the end of our meal the server came with little candies - the kind we ate as small kids- so cute! What a nice touch as we said goodbye and they thanked us sincerely for stopping by. We arrived right when the restaurant opened at 11 and were fortunate enough to get a table without a reservation. We were warmly greeted and given a table. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful in explaining all the dishes we were considering to order as well as other dishes that were popular. We ordered the miso eggplant, ahi tataki, and the umi tomato. All of them were so Ono!! We also had their desserts...the lilikoi pudding and mochi churro... Note:Dip the churro into the pudding! Parking in the shopping center can be a challenge, so get there early enough to find a parking spot. IT's WORTH IT!!! read more

I have one regret about Little Plum - waiting so long to come here. The ambiance is pretty chic especially for Manoa. It felt like I was in a hip mainland restaurant with an open kitchen, the decor is pretty cool too. The service is wonderful - very attentive staff who clear dishes promptly, check in, and fill waters constantly. I was very impressed because places can't even find employees, how does Little Plum have so many top of the line staff? The food. I will be super honest here. Our very lovely server explained the top dishes to my husband and I and none of it jumped out at us. But almost everything we ordered was 5 out of 5 stars. Maybe 6 out of 5 stars? -Kalbi Short Rib bao: It was a large bao but lacked flavor. This was the only dish we weren't psyched about. -Ginger scallion rice: This noodle dish blew us away. The flavor was savory and absolutely delicious. I wish I knew what was in it because my husband asked me to make this at home. -Mixed tempura: I didn't think a tempura dish could be so elevated. The batter is smooth (not panko crumb like) but still perfectly crispy. But the miniscule particles of salt made it so good. I took one bite of the shrimp and definitely said, 'wow' and kept staring at it. The shrimp was large, juicy and flavored very well. -Spicy Miso Eggplant: Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavored, my husband said he has never had eggplant that tasted so good. Again...so elevated. Please note the portions are not large, so you may need to order more dishes if you are a large eater. While all other restaurants are making and serving food, Little Plum is on another level, playing on another field, in another universe. And boy is it worth the trip. read more

Our other friends said they asked to have the music system turned off as they were seated in the opposite mauka corner. The spicy eggplant, ribeye skewers and mahi were good. However, timing of serving needs improvement. We ordered rice to go with the entrees, but had to ask for it as our eggplant was almost gone. The amount of oil used in cooking the eggplant and the juicy skewers was a little much. Needed green tea to balance out the meal. Am still ambivalent about dining in such a loud venue. read more
