I had a last minute invite this morning to join a friend's reservation. I have heard great things about this place but hadn't had the opportunity to visit yet. So it was an easy yes, to say the least! When I arrived, I walked around the corner to the entrance on Rochambeau. The waiting area inside is bright, colorful, decorated with some personal tokens, assorted cookbooks and accolades. You can just see into the kitchen and suddenly the chef and owner, Milena Pagán will appear over the cafe style doors to greet you and get you checked in for your reservation. Highly recommend a reservation if you plan to come on the weekend. The place was busy! We were taken to our spots at the bar and greeted by Milena's partner, Darcy. He took care of us from start to finish. I could not resist the brunch prie fixe menu for $45. What a steal. An entree, house made pastry, juice/coffee/tea and one of the house cocktails. I chose the shakshouka, a cardamom knot, the guava-pineapple fizz and the rebujito. I also added an iced horchata latte because I was at brunch after all! We had our drinks and pastries in front of us quickly. My juice was refreshing, tangy and just a hint of sweetness. I love guava and this was exactly what I wanted. The latte was simple but effective, hitting the spiced notes you want from horchata with the depth of good espresso to back it up. The latte in particular was delicious with the cardamom knot, the two harmonizing together for a moment of heaven on this rainy Sunday afternoon. The outside of the knot was caramelized in spots adding this great crunch and the inside was soft like a cinnamon bun. My friend mentioned it was one of her favorites and I can see why! When the shakshouka came out, the smell hit me first. Warm tomatoes, the herbs from the chimichurri, and the tostones fresh from the pan. The presentation is beautiful, inviting you to dig in immediately. I of course opted for the smashed avocado upgrade and they thoughtfully plated it on the side. I like to taste everyone together so I added it to my skillet, and began eating the dish using my tostones as my utensil. It was amazing. All those smells I mentioned before played through beautifully in the tasting. It was one of the best dishes I've ever had. My only wish was for more tostones but I know if I had asked for an additional side, they had that as an option to take. I'll make sure to do that next time! The rebujito cocktail was something I hadn't tried before so I was looking forward to it. It felt like the kind of drink you have on a hot summer day. Similar to a mojito, but with good sherry as the base alcohol instead of rum. As a side note, I think it's an incredibly clever to create a cocktail menu around sherry when you have a beer and wine license. Using a fortified wine? Brilliant. But after my experience here today, I know that brilliance is in every brick of that space. If you were like me and haven't made the trip to this spot on the corner of Hope and Rochambeau, please fix that ASAP! The plantain base (instead of English muffin or other bread type) was yummy especially with the hollandaise sauce, yolk, egg, pork but it did feel a little thick/dry at points. Still would get again. They say they have a 1 hour seating time, so we were a little worried when we got there at 10:30 for our reservation but didn't get seated till 10:40. However we did end up finishing within the hour - I'm not totally sure how strict they are about that rule. Extremely disappointed. I drove all the way from Boston with my family specifically to try this place, but we ended up leaving before even ordering. The issue was when we tried to get clarification on allergy-friendly options. We understood the menu may not accommodate certain dietary restrictions, but we were trying to order for other members of our family while also double-checking in person if anything could work for our child. What made the experience frustrating was how we were handled. We were told to stand outside and order online--in 25-degree weather--with a child, instead of being allowed to step inside briefly to order and ask questions. For a business serving pastries to-go, that felt unreasonable. We were also told the stools were reserved, despite there being only two patrons in the entire establishment. The staff came across as dismissive from the moment we walked in. It's a shame because we were really looking forward to the food, but no meal is worth being treated poorly. Loved it and would highly recommend it! I've been following them on instagram for a long time but hadn't gone. I loved their story, their cultural take on dishes so i knew i had to go; but i also knew reservations might be hard to get; its a small place with limited seating. Finally planned a birthday brunch for a good friend, on a Sunday, for 4 people; luckily there was still one table available at the time we wanted. There was plenty of street parking; it was 9am on Sunday so the street wasn't busy. It can get busy since there are lots of other businesses/restaurants on Hope st. We were the first ones there, sat right away. Our waitress was so nice, patient and informative. The restaurant is small but super cute; loved all the decorations, the references to Puerto Rico, the art, the wine-case/wall. The food was as good as i had imagined! We shared some empanadas to share :chicken and beef. We all got different things: 2 of us got the shrimp and grits, one got the cubano and the other got the brioche egg sandwich. We also shared desert at the end: guava and dulce de leche quesitos; but the star of the shoe was the passion fruit donut! I went to Little Sister for brunch and had their traditional breakfast platter. It was super flavorful and I loved the seasonal jams. The platter came with eggs, bravas potatoes, chorizo, and jam, and everything was tasty and felt like an upgrade to your usual breakfast. I would definitely stop in for a horchata latte again. The portion was decent but the final price was just high for breakfast. The vibe inside was nice and made for a pretty setting on a rainy day. A yummy brunch! The croqueta madame had very good croquettes inside topped with a sunny egg. I like a more traditional croque madam personally, so I'd definitely try something different on the menu if I return. It was also very difficult to cut as it was served in a shallow bowl. On Sunday nights, Chef Milena gathers guests to try wines served alongside a Puerto Rican-inspired food and sides. Reservations can be made through Resy. My friend and I attended a Sunday Wine Tasting at Little Sister on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 6:00 PM. The theme was champagnes and cava (Spanish sparkling wines) made by méthode champenoise. Darcy Coleman, Chef Milena's husband, greeted us and told us to sit anywhere that is setup for 2 people. Unfortunately, there was a water leak at the table we were sitting and the seat was getting wet so we had to move to the counter top seats. Chef Milena welcomed us and we got to sample five tasting pours of thoughtfully selected wines throughout the event. With our first tasting pour, Chef Milena taught us how to taste the wine and in between pours, we learnt about the grapes used, the region where the wine is made, and the winemaking method of each of the wines. We also had the opportunity to serve ourselves vegetarian and meat paella, tostones, and salad. The food was delicious and scrumptious. At the end, all wines we tasted were available for purchase to take home. The wine tasting event lasted two hours and it was really fun. It was casual and just felt like a group of friends hanging out, learning, eating, and drinking wine. read more

Hungry after a trip to the farmer's market we decided hit up Little Sister for brunch . They only had room for 3 at the bar. I find most bar seats uncomfortable (I'm short and am usually left with my legs dangling or sliding off the seat) but these were super comfortable with a bar for your legs to rest and a hook for my purse. The man behind the bar was super friendly with lots of recommendations. We started off sharing a plate of corn ribs basted in guava bbq sauce - a special. Honestly we were all wishing the sold the sauce - it was that good! We ordered the three entrees, shakshuka, tripleta on brioche and a croquetta Madame. Nothing left on anyone's plates by the end of the meal, it was that good. The food was so delicious and well worth the wait. You have to make a reservation, because this restaurant is so eapopular and busy. Only open till 2 on Thursday through Sunday. I'm so darn happy we discovered it. The waitresses are absolutely amazing. Andraea seated us and Natalie was so helpful. We found Little Sister from--of course--looking for brunch options on Yelp after a wedding near Providence. I tried making a reservation online, but we were too close to the booking time, so we showed up anyway and they were able to seat us after a wait, during which time we went down the street to a local shop. It's very cute inside, with an imtimate dining space. They sell local jams and things in there, which was nice, and I bought some of the apricot jam (which is in my fridge right now, and I highly recommend). I enjoyed the chicken chicharrón and waffle, which, contrary to the typical meaning of chicharrón, is not pork. The horchata ice cream was a nice way to finish up the meal. Unfortunate experience on many levels. The restaurant air was burning guests' eyes- like sitting in front of a campfire that's smoking you out. Both myself and the friend I was with had to sit with our eyes closed multiple times while dining to make them hurt less. Then we noticed not one but two other guests rubbing their eyes and wiping away tears.The staff didn't say anything - and I searched reviews on Yelp and Google to see if this was normal or a one-off, and didn't find anything, so it seemed to be a one-off, but then I'd expect the wait staff to say something. Our eyes continued burning painfully for about an hour after we left the restaurant, even after immediately going to CVS and buying eye drops to soothe the burning. The poor cooks and staff dealing with that environment. If only that was the end of it. I also got sick from (presumably) the chorizo - my friend and I shared everything else and she felt fine. Instantly ill for hours after we ate there. I saw another review that said they wouldn't recommend this restaurant to their enemy. I might. But I wouldn't recommend it to a friend (or to you, reader). read more

The food was very good, but the cook and waitstaff were very rude to us, castigating us for being just a few minutes late (we did call ahead) and rushing us out the door after 45 minutes. Everyone has to order a main course and there is a surcharge for ordering sides, even if the sides add up to a main. The total cost was $185 for 5 people for breakfast. Sparkling wine and Cava?! Sign me up! It was a fun experience being able to learn about the region of where the wine came from and how it was made. I loved how It was encouraged to give a good smell before swishing your wine around so you can embrace the taste. The Cava was okay I wish it was a bit more seasoned but they did have homemade hot sauce which added a nice flavor and really the made the meal come together. I fell in love with the pineapple hot sauce so much I'm actually thinking of going back and buying a bottle. This was such a fun experience! I was super looking forwarded to this place as I was headed out of town right after, but one of the kitchen staff verbally berated my daughter causing us to leave. My daughter was brought to tears because of a miscommunication with booking a seat when we had a disabled guest with us. This is the most unprofessional thing I have ever witnessed. Great spot for breakfast or brunch on Hope Street. I recommend visiting on the weekend when they offer a larger menu. They have a prix fixe brunch for $40. I tried an empanada and the Mofongo Benedict, which gained popularity after Jamie Lee Curtis visited. You can have it with pulled pork or mushrooms. It's unique and delicious, but I'm not sure it justifies the $29 price tag. It is quite filling, however. Their hot sauce selection could be improved. Overall, it was a good experience, though a bit pricey. Service can be slow, so it's best to get there early and make a reservation through Resy, especially on weekends. read more

The food is hit or miss, seems to be a little too focused on the aesthetic over the flavor. Very dry cinnamon roll and they actually get pissed and try to guilt you if you just want to order a coffee and pastry. They want you to get a whole sit down meal due to "credit card fees"- but make sure to finish up within an hour and get out or be kicked out!! Like what?? Exorbitant prices (see $25 avocado toast). New cover charge policy is just insane. They say "the vibes aren't free" because their profit margins are so small.. huh?? This is on top of an already unreasonable reservation and cancellation policy. Seems like the owner is a little confused about the fact that owning a restaurant is considered being in the hospitality business. She's always rude and controversial. Definitely money hungry and always has some drama. She attacked a 4 year old customer calling them a "micro aggressor" when the child said the lox smelled funny. She even tracked down the mother's employer to escalate the issue. Really just an insane way to run a business, which has really turned me off from wanting to give them my business. Do not come here if you as a person or a person in your party has a disability. I made a reservation on Rezy for brunch for 4 (one of which included my grandmother who used a walker and has limited mobility). When I got there, I let the one of the women working know, and she said that the reservation I made for a high countertop with backless seating. I explained that my grandmother did not have the physical ability to sit in that type of chair, and she told me sternly that I should have checked the pictures on the website and I would be charged the $100 cancellation fee if we were not to sit there. After this confrontation, she said she'd ask someone else about other possible seating, though she was anything but polite or patient about it. After waiting a few minutes, she came back to tell me that we could sit a table, which I was thankful for, but then continued to cross the line. She lectured me brashly about how I should plan and act having a disabled person in my party (as if this was my first day having somebody close to me disabled. My grandmother had low mobility for years where we have ate at plenty of accommodating, kind restaurants, unlike this one). I was so surprised by the way she demeaned me and her disrespectful tone all I could muster to say back was "great". Able bodied people do not have the issue of not reading the Rezy close enough or not looking at the pictures online enough resulting in this sort of treatment. It was a mistake that I felt the woman working was trying to verbally and financially punish me for. She could have canceled the reservation without a fee due to the misunderstanding, offered for us to come back a different day when they could accommodate us with an appropriate amount of time to plan, or simply sat us at the table like they were able to without purposely trying to make me feel small. I hope that the woman takes this opportunity as a learning experience to not lecture those with disabilities or those assisting people with disabilities how to exist. Next time she is in a situation similar to this one I hope she can handle it with kindness, understanding that mistakes happen and acknowledging how difficult it can be to navigate simple day to day activities like dining at a restaurant when someone in the party can not physically do what others can. read more

(You pay $60 + tax if you cancel the day before, for a party of 4) Called to clarify and the woman said " yeah it's our policy bc we get caught holdin' tha bag on short notice". That's funny bc on their site they encourage reservations because it gets busy and that walk-in space is limited. So, if it's soooo busy, what bag are they holding? I wouldn't be writing this if she was nice, but she wasn't. She was getting shorter as I asked a few more questions. (Like what is short notice etc) I was super nice and said "thx for clarifying, I'll triple check with my party and book then." She said in an annoyed tone, "Yeah. That would be more sensible." "Sensible" ?!? Haha. No restaurant should be saying "be more sensible". Especially when I'm calling to check in on something. That tone and phrase is reserved for a hard conversation you have to have with a loved one. Will try another time bc maybe things/people aren't always perfect (but this rudeness is inline with other stuff I've read online about this place beyond yelp). I heard so many wonderful things about Little Sister and was sadly disappointed by the food and service. I went with a group of 5 and for brunch and each one of our dishes were just warm. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my waffles were cold! The chicken was definitely the star of the dish, but that was it. While seated we had to ask for a glass to drink the glass bottled water that was placed on the table. And when asked it seemed as if it was a bother. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but I don't think we would be visiting again. The food was not flavorful at all. I visit Rhode Island often to spend time with my family who lives there now. This is my first experience in visiting a restaurant that came up short in flavor and service. read more

Over priced, had latte and breakfast sandwich for 33,75$ Very disappointing experience. The staff was rude from the moment I walked in. I asked about a sandwich and wasn't told it had pork, and when it arrived I had to send it back. They replaced it, but the food was still dry and burnt, and definitely not worth the high prices. What made things worse is how they responded to my review on Google Maps -- instead of addressing the issue, they attacked me personally and wrote an unprofessional, defensive reply. Even giving this establishment one star is not justice. I once spoke highly of this establishment to my friends and recommended to so many others until my recent visit. We were treated with such a lack of respect by a server who never even introduced herself. We made a reservation ahead of time for a table of 4 and despite being early and on time, we were required to wait outside in the heat for 20 minutes. Upon being summoned inside, we were seated at the bar directly in front of the kitchen doors and near the AC. After kindly asking to be moved to our originally table reservation we were told there were "no tables available" . When it was time to order, the server poked my friend's arm to ask her for her order. Never once have I ever experienced such disrespect from a server or an establishment. No accountability was taken on behalf of the server nor was an apology issued. I do not enjoy nor ever desire to write a review as poor as this one but I feel like this behavior must be addressed and I hope this never becomes the norm here. read more

Came as a breakfast recommendation from a local Providence-r. Love that there's a cafe with Puerto Rican influence near Hope street, it was so easy to eat then explore the street afterwards. We got the two eggs, potatoes and toast and egg on brioche. Both were amazing and so flavorful! The potatoes were seasoned perfectly and had a good crunch. We had a choice of jam - we picked a guava raspberry I believe and it was probably my favorite part of the dish. I got the egg on brioche and added chorizo for an additional $2, it added a bit of saltiness but could go without next time. Inside was super tiny but we didn't come when it was busy. Happened upon this hidden gem while passing through RI. The ambiance, story, menu and food were great. I have to give a shout out to Andrea the server. She was extremely accommodating with our baby.
