Sometimes I just want some good biscuits and gravy. I opened up yelp to find breakfast nearby and Northern Pacific Beanery was at the top of my list. I was greeted with a very warm smile and sat rather quickly for a busy Sunday morning. The coffee was hot and fresh. I had the biscuits and gravy breakfast, which came with a couple eggs cooked to order, crispy bacon, and hashbrowns that were perfect. The biscuit and gravy definitely hit the spot. The servers were kind, smiling and very efficient. It feels like stepping back into a diner when I was a kid to get breakfast with the family. You are sitting with locals who know where to go to get a good breakfast. It was a casual atmosphere with pick-ups in the parking lot and boots under the tables. I will be back. read more

I came here for brunch on a snowy day while driving through Livingston. Many of the other top rated breakfast spots were closed, so we came here and had a wonderful time! Northern pacific Beanery is cute with strong small town dinner ambiance and no frills. The prices are very reasonable, service was fast and friendly, and excellent food. I had the French toast combo and it really hit the spot. My favorite part was easily the French toast (the Texas toast in general was peppered throughout the menu!), especially with the delicious boysenberry syrup! It was the perfect balance of sweet and rich. The coffee here was also excellent. My suggestions for improvement would be to get higher quality ketchup. The WinCo ketchup they had was full of high fructose corn syrup. My friends had the biscuits and gravy and mentioned that the biscuits were definitely not house made so it could be nice to pair up with a local bakery for that. Same with the ranch- let's get some higher quality! But the syrup is perfect. read more

After meeting up with a friend who lives in town, he recommended we give this spot a try if we were hungry! Just at the end of downtown is Northern Pacific Beanery. They have their own parking lot or street parking, so no stress on finding a spot. Upon walking inside, to the left they have some bar top seating as well as a couple smaller tables, and to the right you'll find a big dining hall basically with bigger tables and more space. When we arrived the bigger dining space was quite busy, we generally shoot for bar tops anyway, so that's where we asked to sit. They instantly took our drink order, we were on a light hustle mode, so black coffee and a water please. :) Beyond that they offer milkshakes, fountain sodas, iced tea, and coffee drinks. For food I ordered the veggie omelette without broccoli, and then you get to chose your side, I went with a single pancake. My partner ordered the traveler's breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and a biscuit with gravy. Everything hit the spot! The pancake was so light and fluffy, hash browns were crisp, and my omelette was cooked to perfection! Overall, service was great and attentive, the food was far better than expected and all for a great price! The Northern Pacific Beanery would be my go to if I were in the area. read more

I love historic locales for dining! Great choices for both breakfast and lunch and homemade pies made daily. Service was spot on, although our server was a bit quiet. I had the chicken and biscuits breakfast. It was quite good but could have used a bit more gravy. My husband had the BLT and wished he had specified sourdough bread. The server lady (who was the only one there since it was Easter Sunday) was very kind and attentive. We both ordered omelettes which came with hash browns and toast, I asked if I could sub "for no charge" fruit instead of toast since the toast is more money a la carte than the fruit and was told "yes you can do that" and then charged I believe $.75-$1 more. Great breakfast spot in Livingston. Passing through on a Sunday and was looking for an open place to eat that had french toast. A lot of places not open on Sunday in the small town, and Pinky's weekly menu for this week had no french toast. Could not find a menu anywhere online for this spot, nor could I find more than one or two reviews from 2020! Took a risk and stopped by, and thankfully they did have french toast. It hit the spot and the service was perfect. I'm pretty sure the owners have changed since 2013 so the old reviews may not be reflective of the restaurant now. read more

A National Historic Landmark business (if there were such a thing in a genuine National Historic Landmark Building. Beaneries were the 19th century equivalent of 7 Elevens - stops along the way that railroad workers and travelers alike could count on 24/7 for warm food and coffee on their travels across the country. Not fancy, just good hearty food, always hot and always ready (and yes, beans, along with stews, roasts, biscuits and other easy to prepare foods were a staple on most menus). The Northern Pacific Beanery in the original NP Beanery building adjacent to the original (and beautifully restored) NP Depot resurrects much of this tradition, albeit with a somewhat more modern focus on the highest quality fresh foods, freshly and expertly prepared. Beautifully restored, with framed posters and pictures from the earlier Beanery days, a lovely high-ceiling space, framed and lit by walls of windows, showing the pride and care of the current owners. The food similarly shows such care. Everything is freshly and impeccably prepared, using top quality, locally sourced ingredients. My yardstick for 'beanery' breakfasts is the American classic, the Chicken Fried Steak. The Northern Pacific Beanery version is simply the best I've ever had. Hand selected, hand cut and individually cubed on the premises before being hand breaded and fried to perfection, the richly flavored breading truly has that 'fried chicken richness' that gave the dish it's name (and is so frequently absent altogether). Topped with a rich, but sublimely balanced gravy, it's easy to almost overlook the intense beefiness of that perfectly cubed sirloin steak at the heart of the meal. Perfect hash browns, succulent with rich potato flavor, perfectly cooked (and not greasy) provide counterpoint to the richness of the chicken fried steak and gravy. What a kick to have a café RIGHT next to a train yard! We stopped here for lunch and, within a few minutes of sitting down, a train rolled by about 10 feet from our window! Too cool. I had the Reuben sandwich because I really wanted to try that Montana Wheat's Marbled Rye bread. The sandwich itself was okay, but a little flat. There was just enough sauerkraut in it to let you know there WAS sauerkraut in the sandwich. The meat, about the same. The bread was great tasting and fresh and was toasted well. Service was a bit slow considering it wasn't all that busy when we got there. But, they were friendly. Yes, I'd come back for the ambience and to try something else on the menu. read more

During a family vacation this summer we managed to catch breakfast at the "Beanery". Looking for decent food in Livingston can be a challenge. This place turned out to be a gem. I'm from New Orleans and we tend to be spoiled with neighborhood breakfast joints. When I'm on the road I try to find the local "place". I tried Pinky's the day before and was disappointed. It's loaded with non-residents and the family left hungry, which is ridiculous. The Beanery, housed in an old train station, felt roomy, tall ceilings, and homey in an non-updated way. Food was great. The owner, or chef, knows the value of quality basics. Non- industrial form. Great breakfast sausage and bacon, pancakes were really great. Eggs of great quality. Bread was good too. I was only disappointed I didn't eat dinner there and had opted for Chinese next to the theater. For breakfast, you couldn't ask for better. read more

Husband had a burger which was hand packed and definitely homemade. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy both were homemade but nothing special. Asian coleslaw was homemade but weird. There were some interesting things on the menu, Hmmm. I would stick to the main fare. Save room for dessert, this was the star of our meal. Omg it was amazing. Huge portion for only $3.75? Would have been $6.50 for half that somewhere else. The crust, oh the heavenly, buttery crust. I would weigh 300lbs. if I lived here. The service tells the story. The menu for breakfast is basic cafe - nothing fancy, eggs, omelets, pancakes, add ons. Prices seemed a bit high given the location, on par with prices in Seattle. It took the kitchen a long time to get my standard breakfast out....poached eggs, grits, bacon, hotcake. The grits were good but suffered in a bath of margarine (real butter please). Eggs and bacon were good, the pancake not so much. Ambience was great, historic railroad depot eatery. Service was small town diner style, prompt and casual. The ice tea tasted old, marginally drinkable. Overall, solid average, thanks to the nice ambience. Next time I find myself in Livingston for bfast I'll try the mexican joint across the street. read more

My friend and I stopped in here after she had picked me up from the Bozeman airport. We were heading to Chico Hot Springs, so this was a decent stop on the way. This place was big, with a large cavernous space, with ceilings close to 20 feet high. Along one wall was a long counter, that had maybe 15 stools, and there must have been seating for another 60 or 70 in the restaurant, and a small area up front with church pew style benches as a waiting area. Either this place is hopping on weekend mornings, or space is just ridiculously cheap in Livingston. In any case, we had a wedding to get to and ordered food to go. I got the Reuben with fries for $10. Nothing special, but the fries and Reuben were both good, and worked out well for road food. read more

This was the first place we stopped at in town when we moved to Livingston. Upon walking in the staff were very rude. I was questioned about my service dog and disability and then as we looked at a menu up front we were told we couldn't park in the lot if we weren't eating there. We ended up walking out as this place seemed rude,unwelcoming, and very unfriendly. Great way to welcome people to your town. Hands down will not recommend this place even if the food is good. read more
