I've been a customer here for a very long time, I come here every time I want to get some banh mi for my family and when i'm around the area. The banh mi here is always freshly made. I guess Thanh Da has finally figured out over the years what a hair net/cap is. That, or they've been really great at concealing someone's shedding problem. I used to come here a lot when I was younger. Every single time, without fail, I would somehow manage to find a strand of hair in my banh mi - sandwiched somewhere between the the fatty BBQ pork and the cucumbers. So I stopped going. Until one day, I just had a craving that I knew only this place could satisfy. So I took a leap of faith and got what I always get - the #1 - BBQ pork and ham, add jalapenos - hold the hair. This time, not a single strand was found! The bread was perfectly toasted, veggies were fresh and crispy and all the flavors from the meat and pickled daikon were perfectly joined together in a holy matrimony. My only gripe - they give less meat than they used to and they've raised the prices. Even so, I still want to start branching out and try some of their other sandwiches. But - baby steps. I can't believe I just discovered this hidden spot, it's slightly off the main road. It was recommended to me and I tried the #1 BBQ and ham. It was really good, the flavors were there, just wish the bbq was a tad sweeter with more filling. It costs $7 for one. I think the prices have risen since the pandemic. You would first order then wait outside. They also include jalapeno if you prefer it spicy. The baguette tastes super fresh and I can see myself coming back for more. read more

As far as a Brooklyn based Banh Mi shop they do a good job. They are friendly but slow. The length of the sandwich is sizable. Probably one of the bigger sandwiches in the 5 boros. The bun is toasted which is a big plus. Since it is only $4.00 and Manhattan Banh Mi is usually $5.00 it is a bargain. Nicky's puts a pate and mayo in the sandwich and this place does not. Manhattan stores are faster too. They do not put that much meat in it as other reviewers have said. But you can't beat the price! I'm disappointed by your performance, Thanh Da. I used to tell everyone that you were the best in town, but I may have to reconsider now. Years ago, I fell in love with you because your sandwiches were cheap ($2.75), large, and tasty. But now you're just one of the three (not cheap and not large). Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to make you feel insecure; your baguette is still a footlong. It's just that you don't have as much girth as you used to. Wait, that came out wrong. Come to this little sandwich shop in Brooklyn's Chinatown of course. Is this place as good as Banh Mi Saigon? No, but it's still pretty damn good and worth the trip if you live in Brooklyn. The baguette is toasted to perfection with a crunchy exterior but soft interior. Once you order it, they toast the sandwich where you could see it behind the counter. When it's done, they fill your now toasty, crunchy baguette with your choice of meat, veggies, and herbs. They ask you if you want hot (with Chile peppers) or not hot (no Chile peppers). Sadly, the with hot is barely spicy at all here. At $3.75, the price is on par with most Banh Mi sandwiches found around the city. This one just happens to be good... and in Brooklyn. Judging by the fact that there is only 8 other Yelp reviews for this place so far besides mine, all 4 to 5 stars ( except one that lowered the score for cleanliness) it's still a hidden gem from most foodies. Really solid banh mi - Thanh Da II is pretty much my go-to place because it's right by 8th Ave (N) and it's better than Ba Xuyen now (my previous favorite). Portions are good - I do remember a time when half a banh mi was enough to satisfy me, but now I just eat the whole thing. (Not sure if I'm a fatty, portions have gone down, or it's just irresistibly delicious. Probably all three). I usually call ahead (when I get off the 8th ave stop) because everything can be ready in 10 minutes. The main update, though, is for the milkshakes - since those aren't in English, I never thought about them. I learned today that they have watermelon, avocado, strawberry and durian. The avocado and durian are both made fresh and are really tasty, though my current durian smoothie is a bit too icy for my taste (not blended enough). Neither is too sweet, and I would definitely get it again. Milkshake for $4 and #1 banh mi for $5 - an amazing meal for under $10. read more

I have never actually set food into this place until this week. I used to eat these sandwiches because my cousins brought them whenever we were driving to jersey. So when i went in, i had no idea which sandwich it was and decided to just go for one. I asked for the BBQ pork sandwich only to find out that there was "no more" at 1:30pm on a Sunday... REALLY? that's weird, BUT they had enough to put into a whole lot of number 1s which included other meats along with the BBQ pork. weird.. I would've given this place 3 stars because it gets ridiculously crowded in this tiny shop and some of the women are just plain rude, but the recommended banh mi was pretty good. So good that i was craving it the next day. So i went back and got another one of those with an in-stock BBQ pork sandwich. My verdict is that i like the variety better in the regular banh mi (#1), but i get it without ham. I'll be going back :) read more

This place is my go-to when it comes to Viet sandwiches. I don't eat Viet sandwiches as often as I did when I was kid and more Vietnamese restaurants were open on 8th Avenue. But when I do get that sudden and strong craving for layers of meat and pate, I come here. The bread is always soft and crunchy at the same time. The people who work here are always super friendly and I like that I can call and order ahead before picking it up. The store front is really small with a tiny counter with 3-4 high stool chairs so it's definitely more of a take-out place. I've noticed that there was a considerably less amount of meat in my sandwich this time than the last few times I brought a sandwich from here (1-2 months ago). I hope they don't continue skimp out too much because I really do love their sandwiches and I'd hate to have to find somewhere else! The banh mi are legit! I wouldn't say it's the best I've had, but definitely crave-worthy. My perfect banh mi has to taste authentic and not muddied with fusion this or gentrified ingredients. My favorite Vietnamese place for Viet bread. The make it FRESH. Their bread is crunchy and toasted. The fillings are so flavorful. I love the number 1 and the number 3. Number is my ultimate favorite. Number 3 usually sells out quick, sometimes even before 4 p.m. It is just so juicy and yummy. The sour carrots and jalapeños compliments the entire sandwich. It is a must have in the sandwich. Over the years number 3 has been the most expensive sandwich and has been on the rise constantly which really blows cause it's so good but pricey. It's a very small and tight spaces store. There are 2 to 3 chairs. The service is fast but the food process is a little time consuming case it takes time to prepare the bread and assemble the sandwich in a specific order. The staffs are friendly and they always know what they are doing. Their coconut, lychee and logan drink is the bomb. Well waited 2 months for renovations to be complete. I really crave banh mi's sometimes and this place has always been my preference rather than #1 store on 60th Street and 7th. Well ordered the number 1 as usual with the Caphe Den Da. Sandwich was a little lighter than normal and the price has risen a tiny bit. But there is no mystery meat, all the fillings was quite distinguishable. Total was $6.75 for sandwich and iced coffee. Plus my coffee is absolutely marvelous darling, marvelous. After reading reviews on fellow Yelpers, I am convinced this is a must try Vietnamese sandwich spot. We stopped by after dinner, determined to get some to go for lunch. We asked for the staff for advice and they strongly recommend #1. It is basically a combo of everything in one sandwich. We went with their recommendation and were eager to try a bite even though we were stuffed from dinner. We all know that Vietnamese sandwich is the best when it is fresh out of the oven. The #1 is truly amazing. It has ham and grilled pork and of course cilantro and pickles all in the toasty baguette. It costs merely $3.75 but is more than enough. I think the bread here is better than Banh Mi Saigon in the city but I am waiting to try the other famous Banh Mi on 8th Ave just to see who truly has the best. You can call the store number ahead of time to place your order. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, I savored every bite . It was nicely toasted and warm. I love how the mayo was slightly melted. There were a lot of flavors going on. The ingredients were very fresh: bbq pork, cilantro, radish, cucumber and carrots. The bbq pork was very tasty and nicely marinated. I asked for a little spicy (they add jalapenos pepper) to add a little kick and it definitely enhanced the flavor of the sandwich. Looking for authentic Vietnamese sandwiches? This is the place to go if you're around the area! They have their other store on 7th avenue between 61st and 62nd street (serves Pho and other Vietnamese food and they have seating there). This specific location is more like a store front rather than a restaurant. They have a few stools where you can eat, but it is mostly occupied by people waiting to get their sandwiches. This place is meant for takeout and by all means it is still delicious. It can get really crowded inside if you are ordering it on the spot during a busy lunch hour. I preferably always call ahead of time and then go pick it up, which makes my experience so much better. With the large amount of rude people in this area, you don't want to sit or stand inside to wait. I always get their classic number 1 and it is always delicious. If you like your coffee STRONG and SWEET, then you have to get their coffee. I'm like a big fan of sweet coffee, so it's not really my type of coffee. They have some really good sandwiches, I came a few days ago looking for something light to eat by 8th ave and this place was hidden behind a corner. It looked good and it didn't disappoint. The employees were very welcoming and recommended some of their stuff to try and I just went with the basic pork sandwich which was very tasty and it has that added kick if you ask for it spicy. I can't believe it took me this long to find out about this place. One of the best banh mi places I've *ever* eaten at, hands down. The shop's extremely small so it might be kind of difficult to find, since it's kind of off to the side. A small fridge holds the regular Asian drinks-- Vitasoy, canned sodas, fruit juices. People behind the counter speak fluent chinese, and prefer that you do too. Onto the sandwich... I ordered the good ol' classic. The bread was light and fluffy on the inside, extremely fresh, with a good crispiness thanks to their little toaster oven in the back. The pate was flavorful. The pickled vegetables was perfectly proportionate to the meat (other places tend to pack on the vegetables to make up for the lack of meat). The meat was tender and deliciously fatty. A sprig or two of cilantro finished the sandwich. It's a pretty big sandwich and filling too ! I love this place to death for not having soggy bread. Even the butt of the bread is enjoyable, which is rare since the liquid from the pickled vegetables usually is soaked in by then. You can never go wrong with their iced Vietnamese coffee! I would choose their coffee over any bakery or American place. It has a different taste - even my boyfriend who doesn't like coffee loves it! They have 2 locations - one here and one on 7th Ave. This location is more of a takeout where the other location can do both sit in and take out. Love both places, friendly staff and clean.
