    a plate of sushi

Little Tokyo on Carson serves up some excellent sushi. The quality for your money is on point. Our server was excellent and very friendly. She was put in the unfortunate position of having to let us know the food was going to be delayed. It was clear the Friday night takeout orders were overwhelming the sushi bar. We waited close to 40 mins for our food which was disappointing. They should look at adding staff for the rush. The restaurant itself is decent but clearly outdated and in need of renovations. The bathrooms desperately need to be updated. Despite some of the shortcomings the food is still excellent so we'll be returning for more. Perhaps we'll stick to takeout next time.

We decided to go here for Valentine's Day. When we walked in, nobody greeted us and there were about 5 or 6 delivery people in the door for door dash or another food delivery service. The lady at the front was taking care of them, but didn't acknowledge us so we walked further back and asked if it was self seating. The woman helped us to a table. We were ordering sushi for take in and had a plan to order hibachi for take out. It took over 30 minutes to get our sushi and when we did, they left one of our rolls off so they had to go back and make it. Watching the process, it seemed as though they were more concerned taking care of all their to-go orders than being worried about taking care of the customers in the restaurant. While we were there, they maybe had 50% capacity. When we did get our food, the food was great. They had our to-go order ready for us as well when we were ready to go. The other downfall was that it was very chilly in the restaurant that we didn't take off our coats. It almost got to the point that we were u comfortably cold and just wanted to get home. It was a very cold day outside so we did not want to be cold inside but we could not get the chill off being that it was so chilly inside.

We've gotten only take out from here. Our orders are on time, correct and packaged well. I'd go back for the sushi rolls though they're on the pricier side. The first date roll was delicious. Makes sense it's a crowd favorite. The shrimp tempura is cooked well, and its crunch complements the spicy tuna. The dragon roll was my favorite - I love eel and the eel stole the show. We got shrimp balls as an appetizer, and will probably do without them next time. They were salty and not crisp like I thought they'd be.

Incredible sushi with a good variety. We got the edamame and miso soup to start. We ordered several specialty rolls and a few nigiri. Everyone was super friendly and the restaurant looked clean. We can't wait to go back!

This was in my wife's udon.

If you like small pieces of metal in your Udon, this is the place for you! I've always loved Udon, but when we went to Japan last month and had it literally every day (three bowls for 1500 yen, that's about $11.50 and you don't tip in Japan) we really missed it when we came back. We've been trying every Japanese restaurant's Udon to see whose most closely resembles that of the restaurant we went to in Chuo-ku and to find our go-to restaurant, and as you've likely guessed by now, this ain't it. We found the pictured metal sliver in my wife's udon, and that concluded our appetites for the evening. I might have withheld the review if the owner wasn't such a cheap bastard; he offered to remake it (not in the mood for more metal slivers, thanks!) or we could have a free one in the future (hard pass.) At the very minimum, you should have refunded what we paid for my wife's, but ideally, when its something like that in your food, you refund the entire order (Unless it's like a $500 order, but this was less than $50.) The search for spectacular Udon continues...

First I have to say the owners and staff are so hospitable. They take good care of their customers, and so genuinely nice! The restaurant's prices are reasonable. You can sit in the main dining room or at the sushi bar - where you can see all the food action! The food is very fresh, and there's a big variety of sushi, hot pot noodles, hot entrees and more. I've picked up meals to-go many times from here but also dine in on the weekends. I'm sure you'll enjoy the food and service as much as I do!

Supreme sushi and sashimi boat! $120
    Margaret G.

I was on a mission to get a sushi boat and by gawd, we made it happen. I first tried making a reservation at a sushi place closer to me that had boats on the menu, but they weren't interested in accommodating a party of 10 people. Instead I called my second choice, Little Tokyo Bistro. They happily made my reservation at 7pm on a Friday. They said they had lots of room and don't usually fill up. It was my first time here, so the fact that they don't fill up made me a little nervous. We showed up, parked off of East Carson street, for free, and walked in. There was an old fishy smell that I was a little put off by, but it faded from my attention after sitting in it for a while. Our table was ready for us. We ordered two beautiful boats of sushi. Gorgeous. Each boat had about 80 pieces of sushi. It took a long time to come out, but we had boba tea and a veggie tempura appetizer to keep us occupied. Delicious! I highly recommend this place for parties, especially for a birthday person who loves sushi! Get a boat! The supreme ones are $120 each. Happy boat day to me!

In Pittsburgh and craving sushi, this place hit the spot! First date roll was amazing and must try!

When I walked in on a rainy night I was greeted at the door by the hostess and sushi chef (I'm guessing the owners), it was early about 6pm. Ordered the Sashimi platter (not sure if that's the actual name) it was a great array of fish and all of it was delicious and skillfully prepared. I enjoyed the nigori house cold unfiltered Sami as well.

Nigiri, tuna roll and first date roll

First time visiting this cute place. We went on Friday night and it was pretty slow so we got seated right away. The setting is a little intimate with softer lighting but they should have played more melody music then trap music so it definitely threw me off a little bit. It was quiet so easy to hear each other. The waitress was super friendly and informative about the menu. We asked her what some of the rolls had in it and she knew them exactly what each contained! They only had 6 specialty rolls but did have tons of nigiri to choose from. They had tons just regular maki rolls to choose from. After reading reviews I decided to get the First Date Roll since that seem like the popular choice. It wasn't to spicy and it was a nice mouthful of spicy tuna. The tempura shrimp that was inside gave it a great crunch and it complimented it nicely. We liked it so much we order a side of shrimp tempura! The regular tuna roll was simple and the nigiri were all pretty fresh except the fatty tuna one. It was still kind of frozen when it came out and it had a grizzly texture. The wine list was big compared to other sushi restaurants I've looked at and wine pour was heavy which was wonderful. I also ordered a Crystal roll (not pictured) to go and it was a good combo of salmon and shrimp with a white sauce and it had cilantro in it. It was good. We also got the edamame and miso. There was also a older Japanese man (main sushi chef?) that was there and greeted us as we came in and when he walked by our talked stopped and asked how everything was and did the traditional bow, which I loved. He was so sweet and so was our waitress. I'm definitely a specialty roll kind of sushi eater so I wished there were more specialty rolls with sauces on it but there was only two with some kind of sauce on top. I will be back to try it again!

Far to near - Dean Roll, Discovery Roll, and 2 sea urchin (uni). Very beautiful!! Loved the flower
    Gina L.

Swung by on a Monday at 5pm when they opened. The lady working was very nice! I ordered food to go. - Sea urchin / uni was ok ($12/2pcs). There was a decent amount, but I felt like it could have been a little creamier and fresher - Dean roll ($12.95) didn't have rice which was pleasantly surprising and very delicious. The filling was like spicy tuna with chunks of fish. It had a nice sesame flavor, and was topped beautifully with avocado. Each piece was like the perfect spoon of poke. - Discovery Roll ($13.95) was good as well. The shrimp tempura in the middle gave a good crunch, and it was topped with salmon/avocado. There were also generous amounts of tobiko (fish eggs) on top. I also got a jasmine green tea bubble tea ($4.23 w tax) while I waited. It was majority milk with some sugar and flavoring - sort of weird but not your typical bubble tea. The bubbles were a mix of normal tapioca, popping bubbles, and the lychee jelly rectangles. Some of the tapioca tasted like they had been soaking a while but interesting mix of textures. In the future I'll pass on the milk tea and uni, but their rolls were really tasty and so beautiful. Wasabi wasn't too strong, so I'd ask more more.

We stopped in on a Thursday evening for an early dinner. We had ordered take-out several times throughout the pandemic, but had never eaten inside before. We were pleasantly surprised how nice and modern the restaurant was inside! We ordered the chicken dumplings as an appetizer to start. They were very tasty and crispy! Then, we ordered a few sushi rolls for dinner. We ordered the scallop roll, shrimp tempura roll, and dragon roll. The sushi was very compact and did not fall apart at all while eating; I have never been impressed by how well sushi was rolled before I came here! The shrimp tempura was rather bland ( the roll contained only fried shrimp), but overall the rolls were all great. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because the service was very slow. We were there for an hour and ordered as soon as we got there. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant, but it looked like the sushi chefs were overrun with take out orders. I will definitely be back for more awesome sushi!

Conch Nigiri Sushi and Scallop Roll
    Christina P.

I was in the area for dinner with some friends and came here since one of them loves this place. We were all beyond hungry so, of course, we ordered more than we could finish. There were no complaints once we tucked in. We ordered nigiri sushi: uni (2 pieces for $12) and conch (2 pieces for $7). We also got an unagi roll (6 pieces for $8), the scallop roll (6 pieces for $8.50) and the salmon roll (6 pieces for $6.50). Finally, to get even more food, we also got yakisoba with chicken and shrimp (for $13.95) to share because why not. Along with all of this we got complimentary salad whose dressing is THE best ginger dressing I have ever had. I would buy it by the bottle. This was my first time eating uni and I wasn't a fan of the taste or texture. The conch was a win both in taste and the stiffer texture. The unagi roll, the scallop roll and the salmon roll were great as well. The yakisoba was so-so and I wouldn't get it again. The interior was nice and the waiter and staff in general were lovely. I definitely want to come back here next time I'm in town to get more of the sushi and weirdly enough, the salad with that great ginger dressing.

I've been generally impressed by the quality of the sushi. We ordered takeout this time, and everything was extremely well packaged and presented. In terms of the food, we focussed on fairly standard maki rolls: a spicy salmon roll and a spicy California roll. Both were very nicely done. We also tried the veg farm roll, and that was a nice vegetable forward option. Not life changing, but nicely done. We also opted for a vegetable poke bowl, and that was also good. Basically the same combination of vegetables as the veg farm roll, but in a bowl format. The bowl was good, but it was lacking some sort of sauce or glaze that might have pulled things together. It was easy enough to toss on some condiments of our own, but the bowl could have been better. Overall, I this is my favorite sushi destination in Squirrel Hill. It's very clear that the owners are invested in turning out a high quality experience, and that's exactly the type of business I like to support.

Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!
