I have been coming here since 20 years ago (crazy how time flies!) whenever I'm at Smith Haven Mall and it hasn't changed other than the name (used to be Sarku I think?) and prices going up haha. I recently stopped by on a weekday because I was craving it and was in the area. They take cash or credit. Service was quick and I usually order the chicken teriyaki with white rice and vegetables except this time I wanted mushrooms added (additional cost $0.79). The teriyaki shrimp is also delicious by the way and the vegetables are just steamed but still very tasteful. By the way, ALWAYS ask for extra sauce at the end...it's that delicious! There is plenty of free parking since it's the mall; just make sure you park by the food court entrance. That way you're not walking through the entire mall just to get food. There are also clean bathrooms right next to the food court if needed. Plenty of seating right in front though I'm sure it can get packed during peak hours. Great place to go for your mall visit. Much better than the shit they serve at Stir Fry 88. You get fresh noodles, a nice little bunch of veggies and some nice just-grilled protein. Always ask for more sauce! I sometimes look forward to mall visits just because of Little Tokyo! read more

Y'all are gonna think I'm crazy but, I have loved this place for years solely for the chicken teriyaki. Service is always quick and the teriyaki is delicious. Chicken is always tender with a bit of a sear. Its doused in this sweet and savory teriyaki sauce. I always opt for veggies and rice and it just all works so well together. Little Tokyo in the Smith haven mall has been here for a long time. I remember this nostalgic spot since I was in high school. This place was awesome back then. Decided to have lunch here one day shopping at the mall. Food wasn't bad, just not nearly what I remember it being. I got the chicken and shrimp combo. The fired rice was under seasoned and overcooked, and there was very little attention given to the vegetables. Chicken cooked well, but the shrimp quality disappointing, frozen little nuggets that wasn't clearly wasn't deveined. Not exactly friendly either, robotic in a way. Listen, it's the food court. An undefeatable classic, the Chicken Teriyaki is food of the Gods and is hard to beat. Try as you may to replicate it at home, it won't taste as good as it does here at Little Tokyo, formerly known as Sarku Japan. This even beats out other malls with similar stores. The beef teriyaki is not as good, but interesting for a change. There can be a bit of a language barrier if you're asking for something odd or in the wrong fashion (I still recall years ago having a manager legit confused and annoyed with me that I referred to "beef" as "steak") But once you know how to order, it's a smooth, systemic process. The new young lady there over the past few years has been pretty solid with the ordering process as well. The secret is asking for that extra dollop of sauce at the end. The pros are that they cook the food in front of you and one combo meal priced around 8 dollars is enough to leave you full. It comes with your choice of fried rice/ noodles and a nice portion of vegetables which is vital for every college student's survival. The con is that it doesn't taste nearly as good as the bourbon chicken in the very first store to its left. If you're unsure which chinese takeout food you want, just sample it all! They have a guy giving samples of the teriyaki chicken, if you want to check it out before buying. The seating is hit or miss depending on when you get there. But if you patient (and quick enough) you'll usually get a table with little trouble. I usually get the teriyaki chicken, white rice and no vegetables. I actually like the food here. Often order chicken with shrimp, as well as beef. Some times order double meat and the portion is really good! Meat comes to be very juicy. You can't miss adding mushroom as a side because the mushroom have great flavor and juicy, crispy at the same time (it's hard to describe just try ; ) ) Their rice also tastes better than most Chinese take-out places. Had lunch here on Feb 4th, 2015 AVOID the Tempura Combo of Chicken & Shrimp. They don't know what the batter is supposed to be. This were two very small pieces of chicken and two very small shrimp dunked in the thickest batter available. It reminded me of pancake batter. The mixed vegies that came with this were raw. Couldn't get my fork into them. Next time I'll go next door to the Chinese place next door in this mall. This was sooooo BAD !!! The cost.....$6.93 and went in the garbage can.
