Waited for twenty minutes and after I notified the waitress and she was aware I still didn't receive service. Terrible customer service.

I recently dined here with another couple and a friend. The following day, I noticed an additional charge of $96.03 from the restaurant on my bank account, on top of my actual bill. When I called to report the issue, I was told that our waitress had mistakenly charged me for another table's bill but that the charge had been voided and should correct itself. I monitored my account daily, but the refund never appeared. When I called back, the manager, Tabitha, reviewed the transactions and explained that while the waitress had processed a refund, she had issued it as cash rather than returning it to my card. By her own admission, it looked as though the waitress had refunded the money to herself. I was assured the matter would be resolved once the owner/bookkeeper returned from vacation and that I would be contacted. A week later, after still hearing nothing, I called again and was told by Tabitha that she was surprised the owner had not reached out, since they had my contact information. At this point, I have disputed the charge with my bank and contacted local authorities about what appears to be a fraudulent transaction. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Beyond the risk of fraudulent charges and mishandling of customer information, the food itself was mediocre at best. What should have been a $30 meal turned into a $96.03 headache--not worth the risk. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

The service was even worse- our food all came out at very different times so we could not eat together, and our drinks were never refilled despite being empty almost the whole time. Once we got our food, it was mediocre at best, and extremely small portions for the exorbitant prices. To top it off, our server (who we hardly saw) helped herself to an 18% built-in tip per the restaurant's gratuity policy. Never again. read more

Nothing is on the site about this. I called to find out what the code was and NO ONE knew what I was talking about. Judging the outside I started to turn around and leave. I wish I would have because I certainly would not have missed out on anything at all. This is a very unique place to eat. We started with dinner, the egg rolls and sushi were killer! Service was a little slow and unorganized but they were very busy being a Friday night. Our waitress was very sweet and apologetic for having to wait for certain things. The manager came around and took photos. The atmosphere and vibe was great. We have been loyal patrons of Little Tokoyo at both locations in Albemarle since they first opened. We typically order 2 take-out Hibachi chicken plates totaling $17.66. They mentioned at our last pickup that they were going up in prices due to the increase in chicken prices. I get it, we're all paying more for chicken in the grocery stores, so it's understandable. Today we picked up our 2 Hibachi chicken plates and the total was $22.45. When we returned home and opened our plates we had substantially less chicken and rice. Unfortunately it appears Little Tokoyo is taking advantage of the dear folks of Stanly County during hard times. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at this place. Been visiting my dad more recently, trying to teach him to use a computer for the first time - and on this day I NEEDED A BREAK...BAD...either that or a) be committed, or b) require police involvement!! Rather than us killing one another I decided a good meal was in order. I remembered him saying something about a Japanese restaurant opening a while back, so we thought we'd give it a shot - plus, when dad's treating, who needs Sonic, right?! :) Considering Albemarle isn't exactly known for its fine, worldly cuisine, expectations were quite low. I have to give them credit though; it was actually pretty tasty, especially for the price. I ordered my usual chicken & shrimp combo ($9.99) with fried rice & carrots. Dad ordered steak & chicken (also only $9.99) with the same sides. Each entrée comes with a "free" side salad or onion soup (dine-in only; doesn't come with to-go orders). We were also given free two-flavor sherbet for desert. I must admit, that was a nice touch. Portion sizes were generous (much more than I was expecting, especially for $10), well cooked, and quite tasty. The side salads were very basic (just lettuce & shredded carrot), yet tasty (nice crisp lettuce, not wilted or brown, or with pieces of lettuce the size of a small animal). The ginger dressing was very good--not too sweet, not too tart, and dad's ranch was, well...ranch. Pretty standard. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very personable & helpful, even aiding pops in determining whether he would like hibachi or Teriyaki the best. He also brought dad a sample of their ginger dressing to see if he would like that. Never had to ask for a drink refill and even offered up a box for my dad's leftovers without him asking. And major kudos to him for putting up with my dad's super corny jokes!! I will say that they need to reeeeally work on their "computer 101 student-designed-style" website (http://littletokyorestaurant.yolasite.com/little-tokyo-website.php). At least you can view the menu & that's the main thing I was looking for anyway. All-in-all Little Tokyo was a pleasant experience, and I'm more than happy to return the next time I'm visiting dad. Good food at very reasonable prices. And as far as I know they're the only Japanese restaurant in Albemarle, so it's a nice break from the norm in that area. Went to eat there at 7 pm on a Monday. The waitress was nice at first. During the course of the time we were there, everything got weird. The restaurant is filthy and in disrepair. It was very dark in there, so it was hard to tell at first. The longer we sat there, the worse it got. The floor was very sticky. There was dust and dirt on the hanging crystal beads beside the table. The table was just sticky and had a residue on it. There was no handsoap in the women's restroom. There were feces on the walls in the restroom too. There was someone screeching from the kitchen; then they cleared their throat very loudly - everyone in the dining room was grossed out. The glasses with our drinks were dirty. We did not say anything to the staff because we wanted to just eat and leave. When I got back from the restroom, the check was on the table. This is the first time I have eaten there. I went to the front to pay the bill. The cashier was on the phone, no problem. He was super nice to me and when he was finished with the phone, he apologized for me having to wait. The waitress then screamed at me from across the dining room, "You cash out at the table!" I apologized and told her I was terribly sorry and gave her my card to pay. She took my card and then returned it. She did wish me a good night. Overall, the facility was very nasty, and the waitress yelled at me because I tried to pay the bill in the wrong place. I know where to never go again. It is disappointing. I know all of this sounds shocking, but it is the truth. I never give reviews, but I had to for that experience. read more

DO NOT, I REPEAT, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT COME HERE! SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE. WE WAITED ONE HOUR AND 15 MINUTES FOR OUR ORDER. Service can definitely make or break your experience and this was definitely a break for a lot of people. We were a larger party of 12 and knew they were closing at 9 asked the waiter to place our order as we came in. People that ordered Hibachi/ Teriyaki that placed their order first at 8:01 got their food at 9:15 and received it last. People at our table who ordered chicken wings at 8:30 something came in last and got their order first around 9:10. Some meals came with soup and salad and we received it after people were receiving their food (still haven't received the entree). PLUS, the food was cold! In addition there were two parties of 6 that came in after us ate, paid, and left before we received anything. I literally watched the waiter cater to every other table. Side note: we were the only people of color in the restaurant. I spoke with the manager about the issue in a calm and cool tone, no disrespect at all. He asked me what I wanted him to do and I said I was just letting you know. He said since everybody was separate he couldn't do a discount. But he stated he would remove the drinks from all of our tickets. I went back to the table and waited for the checks. I thought everything was cool, because that's the least he could have done. But I was satisfied. HOWEVER, WHEN THE WAITER BROUGHT THE TICKETS THE DRINKS WERE STILL ON THE TICKET. We asked why is the drinks still on the ticket. THE WAITER AGGRESSIVELY stated that she waited to put the order in at 8:40, instead of when we came in, so the manager is not going to take it off. But the food was cold, and then she stated "your food was under the lamp for only a couple minutes..... 1. The manager is a liar, and does not keep his word. 2. We directly stated that we don't want to wait to put the orders, so that's not our problem as to why she didn't put it in ... 3. Why didn't he communicate that to us directly, instead of her. In response, he said he didn't know the whole story and said "he couldn't remove the drinks from the ticket, since it has already been printed" WHICH IS A BOLD FACE LIE. I have worked in the food industry and we all knew he can void an item, HE LIED AND CHOSE NOT TO. One of the people at the table asked to go ahead and pay for their food before the issue was resolved and the waiter said " I don't want to run the card if he removes something" , which means he could have done it. HE JUST DIDN'T. Then he continues with excuses and in the midst of his excuses, we ask so why wasn't the message relayed directly to us if you are the manager, he states "well I knew I was going to eventually have to come over here.." LIKE WHAT?!?!?! and never even offered so much as an apology. It's truly sad. However, I will never order another item from Little Tokyo and I encourage you to join me and do the same. Almost everyone in Albemarle has recommended this restaurant...not sure if I went on an off-night, but I 100% don't get the hype. The interior looks like a black light miniature golf course, and there's some sheets of fabric hanging around (for ambience? Partitioning? Not really sure). The walls were bare and everything was kind of out in the open it felt like I was eating in a highschool cafeteria, just a bunch of tables in a big room, maybe that's what the fabric was for? Anyway, I got the "low-carb vegetables"(vegetable stir fry) "hibachi" style which was really salty tasting. All the side sauces were sugar or mayonnaise-based, which depending on personal preference could be considered a positive. In conclusion, I ate there around 6pm, which I wouldn't do again, however I give this place 2 stars because I bet all that neon shit is pretty awesome when I'm just looking to get drunk and it's past 10pm. read more

I was more than a bit disappointed by Little Tokyo. The portions are decent and the prices are ok, but the quality was barely adequate. I'll certainly give them another shot, but our chicken was overcooked (was fought and a couple pieces were burned too.) Our fried rice had no taste at all, and had the consistency it was made a few hours ago too. However, the shrimp was pretty good, although the shrimp sauce was about the consistency of water. The waiter we had seemed to be rushing us and was no help at all. Drink refills were virtually nonexistent. I'm willing to give it another shot, but our initial impression is that you should save your money and go to Nakato's in Charlotte if you want some good Japanese. Saying this is good Japanese is like saying you are the king of the little people. It's a lot better than most Japanese places within 30 minutes of here certainly, but it has a lot of work before I'd call it good Japanese. :( read more

The wait staff are incredibly courteous and accommodating. The ambiance is nice, with the lighting and decor giving off a modern vibe. The food is where the issues are. On the surface, it looked like normal Japanese food, but the soup was far too salty. When the main course arrived at the table, the entire dish tasted overarchingly sweet, as if the juice of the sweet carrots had mixed with everything. The shrimp sauce was far too sweet, and coupled with the already sweet food, it made it as sweet as a dessert. I had to use an inordinate amount of soy sauce to get any savory taste at all. Where do i begin... my friends and I came here because we loved the other location so much. We figured why not try this one out, it's most likely owned by the same people. I switched up and ordered the chicken wings without sauce. My wife ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the mixed California roll my friends ordered tempura and chicken wings as well. My chicken wings where hard fried but without breading and they were extremely bland. Also we ordered an order of crab rangoon. When the crab rangoon came out they were so small they looked like tiny spring rolls. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I had never seen crab rangoon that small and I feel that it takes away from the flavor and what makes crab rangoon crab rangoon. My wife's mix California roll was hard fried it tasted horrible we ended up having this taken from my bill. My friend ordered water and one of the refills tasted like dishwater. All in all, I was very disappointed in this place; I so wanted to like it. I will not be coming back here. read more

Some of these other reviews must be about some other place. My husband ordered flounder and scallops hibachi style and he really enjoyed it. He says the shrimp sauce was thick and good, not at all watery as a different review mentioned. It was a Friday night and busy but they were very efficient and our needs were never left unattended. We sat at the sushi bar and both the sushi chefs were extremely helpful and friendly. I've recently started eating my sushi a little differently and they took the time to help me figure out some great options. The sushi chef also made a roll for my husband after asking a few questions about what he liked. Everyone was very friendly and we will definitely be back. read more

We also ordered some warm saki and I was surprised that they brought it out in waves. They brought out what we could drink warm and left the rest in back until we were ready. Extremely disappointed. First thing I noticed when I walked in was the floor was sticky. So sticky that it had a literal pull on my shoes. I should have left then. Second, the bartender was smoking a vape cigarette behind the bar and blowing plumes of vape. I even saw her walk past tables doing it while people were eating. I realize it's not a cigarette but it does have a smell and no is sure how toxic those things are yet. I ordered a Bloody Mary that was disgusting, it tasted like a bottle of worstsheshire ,and my friend ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri that had chunks of ice too big to suck through a straw or even crunch. Not only that but it was lacking in daiquiri syrup. The staff genuinely acted like they didn't want to be there. The food was cold and to top off the bad experience after my credit card was swiped the waitress asked me to sign the receipt while she waited. I worked as a server for over 10 years and any server worth their salt knows that you don't do that. I wish there was a zero rating because they would have gotten that. I hope the owners read this. Your restaurant needs a serious cleaning, especially floors, you need to fire your bartender and actually train your servers or find some that actually care. read more
