They ruined yet another special day. Last time it was Valentine's. This time my birthday. The sushi was sashimi, and when you are getting Ikura (salmon roe) you don't want it in a cucumber cup when you ask for sushi. The special roll was soggy and covered in mayo rather than the fish eggs described. The Chinese aspects were awful, Crab rangoon right out of the bag to fryer. Not made in-house. Little Wok was a tiny little Chinese place around the corner and I didn't have really high expectations from it. We got here and were promptly seated and given menus and water. The menu was extensive and had plenty of vegetarian options. Our waitress, Kelly, was extremely helpful in helping us figure out what we want to eat. We finally settled on an Avocado Roll, Buddha's Delight and a spicy noodles. We also got a free edamame appetizer courtesy of a Yelp coupon. The appetizers came out soon. The edamame was well seasoned and tasty. Had that been messed up, this would have been a one star post. The sushi was tasty albeit slightly large. The moment I feel like I need more than one bite to eat sushi, it kind of kills it for me. The entrees were delicious. Both were spicy as we asked them, and full of flavor. I'd certainly go back there for a helping of the spicy noodles which were cooked to perfection and burst with tastiness. Went here last week with my visiting family. I'd heard AMAZING reviews of this place and the photos on yelp looked stunning. The food did not disappoint, it was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Unfortunately several of us didn't get to realize this as soon as we'd hoped as it took awhile for our food to finally get there. When it did there was a problem with two of our orders which our waiter let us know he'd remedy immediately. If immediately meant 30 minutes later then yes it was immediately. If I could post zero stars this would be the rating I would assign across the board, a major fail. - 1 hr wait to receive food - both entree orders were input incorrectly which one included a raw egg that appeared more nasal snot than an actual egg in which server replied disgusting in his observation but manager defended it was properly prepared. - the pork belly in my entree the featured protein in the dish was absent for reasons unknown as no request was made to leave it out of the order. - the real kicker was the inept manager who completely mismanaged the situation with poor communication as he also looked to assign sole blame on server but the back of the house screwed up the orders and the manager put little effort in rectifying the situation. The real kimchi to the wound was when the manager brought the bill to us with no discount. After some discussion he brought the check with a 20% discount for a total discount of $6.80. So we accepted the 20% discount while at the same time sharing to Manager we will never to return. I would offer the real failure was Manager in his inability to manage the back and front of the house and is major fail in not satisfying his customers. This is only review I have ever posted but this manager really missed the mark in the big picture in a customer first approach. A total fail as we are local to neighborhood and will never be back and I will make sure to share with all that this place was a real disappointment and we have to many other options worth visiting who appreciate the customer and still it all the other marks that would be expected in quality restaurant with a manager that has half a brain to avoid reviews like this one. Delivery order review: I'm rarely in the mood for Chinese food, so when the mood finally struck, I was excited to try Little Wok. I ordered the Orange Chicken (mild) and Clark got General Tso's Chicken (medium). We also got crab rangoon and potstickers to go with the meal, since I couldn't decide between the two on which I wanted more. I was really jacked about the potstickers...until I bit into one. Now, I try really hard not to get excited about any meal that has been delivered, because I am a snot about consuming meals when they are still HOT as often as I can. I know what I'm getting into when I order delivery, and my expectations are never very high. However, these potstickers were not flavorful at all! The thing I tasted most was the soy sauce they came with. I ate the potsticker still, but didn't touch any of the others. What a bummer. The crab rangoon didn't come with any sauce, so we just ate it with sweet and sour sauce packets (which I think is what you usually eat with them anyway). They were fine, though the extra dough parts that didn't have any filling near them (you know how they're pocket type things, right?) were very tough, just like dough gets when it's microwaved. They were still crispy, so i know they'd been fried, but the tough dough was very strange to me. Orange chicken...tough to mess up, IMO. However, the bits of meat were so dry that I thought I was gnawing on slivers of bone or cartilage in a few of my bites. Maybe it was just overdone breading? Tough like the crab rangoon? I put in the good old college try but after about 7 bites, I couldn't keep going. Clark ate his General Tso's chicken like a champ, but spent the rest of the night not feeling well. I didn't even bother trying it because I was so disheartened by the rest of the meal. What a bummer!! I'm not mad about it at all, because this is generally what I expect in meals that are delivered. I ordered delivery here through Yelp a couple of weeks ago as I was craving Chinese and I have never heard of the place. I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein and Wonton Soup. I thought the Chicken Lo Mein was one of the better Lo Mein's I have had. The noodles were thick and there was a lot of sauce and big pieces of chicken. The order showed up within about 35 minutes and was still hot. I had the Lo Mein with Beef (5/5): tons of flavor, lots of veggies and a lot of large pieces of beef. I also ordered the Tom Kha soup (2/5): it was really watery and had *maybe* 3 slivers of mushroom in it and *maybe* 3 pieces of tofu that tasted funny. My husband and I ordered delivery: the classic fried rice with scallop and shrimp, black pepper chicken on rice and the pad thai. The classic fried rice with scallop and shrimp was very good. The scallops were tiny (which I think is the perfect way to use those small scallops) and the shrimp were whole (I think I'll be cutting the shrimp into thirds or fourths when eating the leftovers). The black pepper chicken on rice was very tasty although not spicy at all like the description said. I cut up the chicken and green bell peppers so I could have a little of both with some rice in each bite and I loved it. I will order again, just think they should update the description. Little Wok is just a few blocks from me in Lakeview and we've been coming here more often lately. The wait staff is always very friendly. This is a great place to come for a quick lunch. I typically have the Sushi for lunch - their sashimi is quite good and the presentation is just beautiful. The maki is decent here. With the cold weather, a nice hot sake hits the spot for dinner. The garlic chicken is usually a good choice for Chinese food. I haven't been too impressed with the Tai here. The atmosphere here is really great. The bar is really nice and a good little place to sit with a few friends. The drinks have always been made perfectly. I recommend stopping in here for lunch or dinner. The seating is a little limited since it's a small space, so we ended up sitting by the bussing station/kitchen door, which is not a great view. The menu is sooo large, there's so much to choose from! They have every asian dish imaginable. We got edamame and crab rangoons for an appetizer - the rangoons were amazing!! I would definitely recommend those. I ordered the Fujiyama roll, which was delicious. We also ordered a curry chicken noodle dish, which was flavorful and amazing. The disappointing dish was the salt and pepper squid - it was just a bowl of calamari with a side of rice. It was very dry and I did not want a $16 bowl of plain calamari as my entree. Ordered from here on the 6th, all I can say is the quality has really changed, not for the better. The curry I raved about previously is now pre packaged and frozen. Upon arrival I could feel the dish was still cold in the middle and warm around the outside of the dish, the chicken was also still cool in the middle. Highly disappointing as I really enjoyed the curry dishes from here which is now reduced to only one curry dish on the menu. I'm guessing it's frozen down due to the time it takes to cook and popularity IMO. The sushi was great, the fire dragon roll is awesome, highly recommend trying if you like cooked rolls. The sushi has been consistent from here however if they are taking to freezing certain meals and microwaving them to order I won't order from there again. We ordered dinner on Christmas, which of course was going to be busy. They estimated an hour wait and dinner came out right on time. The food was some of the best I've had in Chicago. Sesame chicken was light, crispy and flavorful, without being to oily. And the scallion pancakes were so flaky! So, for example, the hot stone bibimbap came out with the right sauce (although pre-sauced with no red bean sauce at the table to add flavor). My go to for Chinese food if I'm around the area. The orange chicken and beef teriyaki are very good, I get them almost every time. I would also recommend the stone bowls, all of them wonderful. Everything is priced really well, and the lunch specials feel like a steal. The only problem I've had with this place is that on Sundays sometimes they didn't open at their advertised hours, simply because the staff were running late. This unfortunately happened twice, on days when my family and I planned to come there for a nice meal together (Mother's day). Little Wok has an extensive menu, with all your favorite Chinese-American classics, but also sushi, thai, and korean dishes.We ordered the sesame chicken (my fav), mongolian beef, and pad thai. The sesame chicken was delicious! Huge chunks of fresh white meat. The mongolian beef was tasty as well. However the pad thai was not thai pad thai. It was made with circular rice noodles, unlike your typical thin, flat style. The flavor was good, but the texture threw me off. Delivery was fast, food arrived hot, and A+ for the nice packaging! You get to choose one roll (unagi always for me), 3 piece of sashimi (smoked salmon, tamago, tuna) and then you also get a seaweed salad and miso soup. Sure, it's a little more than you'd want to spend for lunch, but the rolls are excellent and fresh, so it's worth it! We like the variety of dishes Little Wok offers. You have the typical Chinese popular dishes like sesame chicken, mongolian beef, fried rice, but then there's also ramen, sushi and chap chae, spicy beef soups. BTW, the coconut shrimp and its dipping sauce is awesome. The waitress we've had both times is VERY nice and sweet. The other hostesses have some type of down low attitude, like FYI - we notice it. The food also takes a little while to come out both times we've dined in, so don't come starving (I say this as a first hand experience). Also, the price point is a little higher than you'd expect to pay for Asian food, but the decor/environment is more upscale than other places in the 'hood. read more
