If I could give zero stars I would. I've been coming here on and off for years as it's close by. But no more. Over the years I've been belittled a number of times by the owner. I never feel a good vibe when I come in the store. The employees are clearly miserable. If you can go the extra distance there is a much better liquor store on MLK. The employees here are awesome. Guy who owns it is always upbeat!! I always come here after living right by it for years. Moved a bit further away and still decide to make the quick trip just to support these guys! If you're looking for a wide variety, this may not be your jam. But if you need a quick bottle, quick service..these guys are an awesome option. Parking can be a bit weird..but if you read the signs -- you can actually park right in front of the doors and all along the opposite side of the street as well. This liquor store is great...lots of selection and welcoming staff. When we first arrived it appeared to look little scary due to its location, but don't judge a book by its cover. This is a liquor store. It has a decent selection. Not enormous, but the standards are here plus a good variety of local stuff. It's not huge, not tiny. Everything about it is decent. Folks behind the register were friendly, but not overly so. It was an a-okay experience. Because the selection is so standard, it's definitely not one of the shops I'd travel far to go to, but I happened to need seem bourbon for a recipe and was in the neighborhood. All the liquor is behind the counter. Kind of odd, but I guess that's fine. Don't want people stealing, I'm guessing? Makes sense. It was a little inconvenient because I was just buying bourbon for a recipe and felt compelled to name a brand. I ended up spending way more than I normally would on cooking booze. Parking sucks. I don't think there is any? I parked in what I assume was the lot for the cremation place next door (as I'm writing this I'm really feeling terrible about that; I hope I didn't take the last spot from someone in grief). We walked in and were greeted with smiles. My husband had his prescription sunglasses on and couldn't see due to the bright outdoor to indoor transition. As I made my way around to look for rum, one of the friendly guys behind the counter called out, "Welcome, how are you?" My husband still fumbling around the door replied, "I can't see..I can't see!" As he dug through his pockets searching for his regular glasses, the guys shouted back to him: "It's OK, you are surrounded by booze!" That cracked me up! I love The people of Portland. One of them recommended a great off brand rum that we really enjoyed. He also tipped us off to a great local hangout off the beat & path. Great store, great service! read more

I don't buy liquor enough. I can never remember what the various sizes are called. A pint? A Fifth? A handle? A gallon? Do they sell quarts of alcohol? They should. And what about those little small guys? How do you ask for those? I don't know why I'd get one, but if I wanted to one day? I think they should have a key/legend. So clearly I can't stand the places like this where I have to place an order. I always have to end up pointing at something or picking something on sale so I can say "yeah can I get that bottle of R&R that's on sale?" I've been in twice now and both times I felt like a piece of meat for each of them to comment on as if I wasn't standing right in front of them. Got liquor? Why yes, they do. Little happy bottles all lined up behind the counter on the shelf. You kind of have to know liquor and what to ask for since you can't really browse on the sly. The no nonsense "tell me what you want and show me your ID" sales clerks are not really in the mood to chat or offer advice. In and out. Hard core liquor buyers would appreciate the efficiency. Love this liquor store! Needed a gift for work, $20 to spend, wanted a nice vodka. Employee greeted us right away and asked if he could help. Told him what I was looking for and he recommended a $20 local, great vodka in a matter of seconds. I was in and out within 3 mins. Great service, clean and professional. They must have new staff here, because I had excellent experience at this store. Better than the Pearl or Hollywood or Clackamas. The clerks are funny, engaging and SO VERY helpful if you merely ask. I bought about 6 bottles the other day and the cashier helped me carry them to my car, even insisting on doing so when I said I could just make two quick trips. I think I've had my last experience with this liquor store. As other reviewers have mentioned, you have to place an order. Not only are you not allowed to pick up the bottles to browse, but they have counters set up to keep you a small distance from the actual displays (otherwise expect angry/suspicious looks from the clerks). I've never experienced particularly friendly staff at this store. And today I discovered they don't carry Everclear based on a personal choice made by the owner (fine, but wtf - you're a liquor store?). While they recommended another store out of my way, the were willing to give me the phone number for a closer store, but didn't offer to call to see if they had Everclear in stock. All in all, it's one of the oddest liquor stores I've been in, in Oregon. Not helpful or friendly staff and pretty limited selection. read more

I've been going in there off and on for years, only because of location/convenience. But I almost always try to avoid it, because the people there are the rudest, angriest, most confrontational customer service I've ever seen. Specifically the older gentleman and woman who seem to be the owners. Never a smile or hello, only get to your point and get out of my face and down the road. I've never heard them even say 'thanks' even once. They treat you like a skeezicks no matter how how much you try to 'crack the ice,' or how well dressed your demeanor. If you like feeling bad spending your money in their precious 'distribution channel' to alcohol, by all means... Otherwise go down the road to Hollywood Liquor where they value your business. read more
