It wasn't half bad! My mother and I shared a lobster roll and each got a side salad- it was more than enough for the two of us. My mom noted that she really liked that they didn't go too heavy on the Mayo, which I guess is something that she's experienced with lobster rolls quite a bit. I personally would have preferred that they used a different bread for the roll, but over all I really liked it! The service was just okay- but I have a feeling they were understaffed. Not quite the same Lobsta Land after COVID hit. Prices are still high, parking is still a pain, interior the same woody self, cocktails always a delicious hit. Since the pandemic they've added to outside which is wonderful if you avoid the marsh green heads. Food quality is down a bit compared to before. Makes you wonder why if paying Legal and Turners prices why you came here. Staff good not as great as they used to be. My family and I are long time fans, but a bit frustrated. As a family of 7, how many times do you need to ask for gluten free bread to accommodate 2 people with Celiac before it becomes a statement that ownership is unaware or unwilling? We appreciate the GF options but not having GF bread ($6 from Udis or Gillians that can be charged a premium for) makes going to Lobsta Land a much less frequent dining option for us. We continue to ask, but to no avail. The food and service are really good, but the lack of what is now a widespread accommodation is becoming a negative statement. Delicious!! Stopped here after a whale watching trip. We were seated promptly. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Wedge salad was huge and definitely shareable. Clam chowder was great- one of the best I've ever had. Lobster roll was full of huge chunks of lobster- my son wanted it served hot and they happily obliged. It was served with a ton of French fries and cole slaw. My daughter had a lobster that was served with mashed potatoes. It was also delicious. My husband isn't really into seafood so he had the chicken fingers. He said they were very good. To top it all off, the table shared a slice of key lime pie (homemade). Everyone enjoyed it! I'm sad to say, I was rather disappointed with this place for a few reasons. We had a 5:30 reservation, and seated us quickly after we arrived. We sat outside, which was very nice, as the there was a pleasant breeze out there. The waitress was very nice, but incredibly slow. It took a while for her to take drink orders, then we had to ask about putting in an app order. The flow of the whole process felt like we had to suggest for her to do these things. She also wasn't very conscious of removing appetizer plates before trying to places the entrée plates, as there was literally no room on the table. Also getting water refilled and new cutlery was a challenge as we had to keep asking for these basics. As an appetizer, we ordered the sampler that had 2 coconut shrimp, 2 crab cakes and calamari. Honestly, the calamari was one of the worst I've ever had. The breading was soggy, chewy, and flavorless. It was also not served with lemon, which seems like a basic accompaniment. The crab cakes were small, but tasty, as were the coconut shrimp, though I wish there had been more of those, as the plate was overtaken with bad calamari. Our main dinners took a REALLY long time to come out, which resulted in an almost 2 hour dinner experience. We ordered 2 lobster rolls which were good, along with the salmon special, which was overcooked, and a kids chicken tender plate that was enormous. The fries and chicken weren't salted and were basically flavorless. I was so excited to try this place, as I've been on the hunt for a great fish restaurant on the water. I knew I had to be excited. Why? Because ND did a jig. Why is that significant? Because this kid NEVER dances. Not when he turned 21. Not when he graduated college. Probably not when he got his first job. The only other time I have seen ND voluntarily dance? At his wedding. And even that might have been reluctant. So, in other words, the very presence of this rarest of circumstances sufficiently piqued my interest. The drive was a long one. We got into an elongated discussion concerning subjectivity and objectivity standards for gauging "cold winters" in Boston relative to the rest of the country across a number of variables. In other words, lawyers love the malleability of words and engineers love the mystery of science. While the actual topic was drab, it was interesting to note how each argument relied heavily on the other's lack of understanding of the specialties each individual held. After multiple efforts (spawning yet another discussion concerning the relative merits of a GPS system), we arrived at our destination. Lobsta Land presents like a down home Red Lobster. The customers were decidedly local. The business appeared to be family run. Humble wood panelings paired with framed reviews of the restaurant adorned the space. I loved it. The beer list contained drafts from local breweries. We started with some local brews before delving into the heart of the menu. ND explained the gritty nature of the steamed clams we devoured. We cleaned the clams in a bowl of clam juice, dipped them in drawn butter, and sucked the clams out of their shell. While I will always prefer oysters to clams, these were damn good. Like a number of the reviewers have stated, it might bode well for you to avoid the Maryland crab cakes. Most of the seafood at Lobsta Land is quite fresh, but the crab chunks here were small and almost glutinous relative to the beautiful crab cakes that I take for granted in the DMV. Furthermore, the breading was entirely too thick and the seasoning was boring. Lobsta Land has a number of amazing items; I would skip the crabcakes. The lobsters were fine. They were not as sweet as some lobsters I have eaten, but they were properly cooked. The soft, succulent flesh was complimented with a nice drawn butter. If you go to a place called Lobsta Land, it probably is wise to order the lobsters. Even though we are precariously close to the end of the season, these lobsters were still pretty good. I'd love to come back during the early summer and see what they have to offer at that time. The best part of this meal was a seafood bouillabaisse consisting of clam, shellfish, haddock, shrimp, and lobster cooked in a lobster broth generously flavored with garlic and other spices. While the broth was piping hot, the seafood somehow was not overcooked. Indeed, outside of the Majestic's take on seafood bouillabaisse, I'm not sure I have had a better one. Great job Lobsta Land. Finally, it should be noted that the service was genuinely friendly and came by our table just the right amount of times. Requests were quickly granted. In short, there is a reason people love family run businesses even outside of political principles. Often, it just has to do with the warmth that is obviously present from individuals who have a stake in creating an experience for others. If you are in Gloucester, you absolutely should make a stop by Lobsta Land. I hardly ever display the low conscious energy of envy, but I must admit that I have ever the slightest bit of that emotion when I think about the reasonably priced, amazing seafood that is simply absent in my current city and in apparent abundance on the Eastern Shore. Along with L.A. Burdick's, this is on the repeat list on my next stay in Massachusetts. read more

Based on food alone, Lobsta Land is a 2 star restaurant. I'm giving you 3 stars because service was excellent. We rolled into Lobsta Land as a party of 5 and had to wait 30 minutes on a beautiful Saturday evening. We were excited because, well, anything you have to wait for has to be good right? Here's what we ordered: New England Clam Chowder Ciopinno Crispy Calamari Fish & Chips Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Steak Steamed Hard-Shell Lobsters Char-Grilled Burger We got a LOT of food. And none of the dishes came out good. In fact, the calamari was so bland that I felt like I was chewing erasers. Yelp, you really let us down with this recommendation. TEAM LOBSTER AKA Me, Kelley B, and Stephanie W. (they just joined yelp because of me! ha) I was at the beach, and every time I dozed off, I would wake up dreaming of lobster bisque, lobster tails, scallops, shrimp, chowder....I was destined to get seafood.... And then on the horizon (well or off the highway) we see the sign "Lobsta' Land" and how can you not stop at a place called that?? I mean, it is pretty much a sign saying, "L is for Lobster and Love, so get your butt in here and fall in love!" Well at least that is what it was telling me in my head!! We went, and were seated right away for an early dinner (but the place was packed with a wait later, so go early if you can!!) We started with the sampler platter, and the crab cakes I have to say were not the best I have had....For someone who adores crab cakes, pretty much even more than lobster, I was a little let down....but the coconut shrimp paired with that honey mustard sauce made up for it! I could have eaten 20 more of those!! And then died from choloesterol, but man those were good!! But then back down to mediocrity with the calimari, which I only found myself still eating because they are kind of like pringles, once you pop you can't stop ya know? Especially when waiting for main courses to come? They were just a little bland... But my seafood paella complete with lobster, HUGE scallops, shrimp, sausage, and chicken (but the chicken was way overcooked) was pretty darn tasty. The lobster broth they used for cooking the rice brought out the saffron so nicely, it was pretty much exactly what I had been dreaming of on the beach that day!!! And I even left with leftovers!! Reading the reviews here I don't think Lobsta Land is getting a fair shake. I love this place, because the food is great (straightforward New England seafood) and is very well prepared. What's more is the atmosphere is really enjoyable, and is a place you can relax and have fun, unlike some of the clam shacks which feel like crowded bus stations. I grew up living some in Gloucester and some in Boston, and am now living in SF, and when I come home back East I always make it a point to come to Lobsta Land for dinner. My favorite is the baked stuffed lobster, which is packed with lobster, scallops and shrimp. But I also like the fisherman's platter, which is a mountain of all different kinds of fried seafood. Although, the server was very polite and the atmosphere appealing. The lobster roll meat had the bland taste and limpness of being refrozen or from a can and not fresh. I ordered the fish and chip which were very good, but on back of the menu .they were priced $16.99, the bill came for close to $24. Hmmmm. where do I start???? I went to Lobsta land tonight with my parents and girlfriend. We started with the sampler the coconut shrimp was good but the calamari was over cooked and rubbery. One of the the staples that i get at almost any restaurant is the crab cakes. I love them and usually they are fantastic. unfortunately Lobsta land really dropped the ball here they seemed to me to be deep fried which I was shocked about. Who would ever deep fry a crab cake. Anyways the cake came out very chewy almost like the oil was not up to temp. As for the meal I started with caesar salad which was overpowered with garlic. to the point that I could not eat it. My mom had the same problem but hers was even more powerful with garlic. I had the paella with a variety of seafood and rice in a saffron sauce. Over all the dish was bland and most of the seafood was overcooked again. My father had a special which was sole with mashed potatoes. the Sole was good but the mashed was very gummy. My mom had baked haddock with sweet potatoes. when the dish arrived it looked like a pile of mush and did not seem very appetizing. finally my girlfriend had the lobster pasta with scallops and shrimp All i can say lacking... the biggest surprise came to me when our bill arrived and the total was around 160 with tip and not only was I surprised and shocked but almost ripped off. Well all I can say is that our server was very friendly and attentive and that is why we would not complain and still tipped her very well because its not her fault for the mistakes of the kitchen. Went up to Gloucester with my friends during the heat wave, and of course craved fried clams. My usual spot was a little far from the beach, so I looked on my phone for the closest place to have seafood, and on I went. 5 stars for location, as the drive from Wingaersheek took 5 minutes. The food was another story. I love fried clams, every restaurants that has them, I get a plate. I wouldn't say this place was awful, but the clams were so blend. I almost never use the sauce, but I had to have extra cups for the clams here. I don't know if those clams came out of the freezer? They shouldn't even be naturally this tasteless. read more

I know two stars seems a bit harsh but I have indeed experienced better. The food choices and prep follows the current culinary trends but the quality is mediocre. Considering its location in one of the premier fishing ports of the US this just isn't acceptable. The clientele seems to be mostly barfly locals and tourist. It's a popular spot as witnessed by the fullness of its parking lot but there are better places to go in Rockport and Gloucester. I'm sure it's exposure to 128 and very easy on/off highway access adds to it's allure. The little yelp google map that shows up with this review is wrong by the way. read more

We found Lobsta Land by accident last Sunday when we were out looking for a place that was still serving breakfast after noon. The bad thing about Gloucester is most places that serve breakfast close by noon so if you like to sleep in on the weekends you are pretty much out of luck. After calling another restaurant they recommended Lobsta Land to us. To be honest I drive by Lobsta Land every day and I never noticed it. It's kind of hidden, if you're not looking for it you can easily miss it. Also, I never thought a place called Lobsta Land would serve a good breakfast but they do! We walked in just after 12pm and you could smell breakfast cooking all the way out into the parking lot. Nothing gets your mouth watering like the smell of bacon. We walked in and were told they had just stopped serving breakfast but that they would ask the cook if he would serve two more. Amazingly they came back out and told us we could still order some breakfast. I couldn't make up my mind so I just went with the Fish and Chips special while my wife got the pancake breakfast. My fish and chips were amazing. I'm extremely picky when it comes to fish and I wasn't disappointed at all. My wife let me nibble off her plate and the eggs were perfect, the pancakes were yummy (and huge!) and the bacon was cooked just right. If you get a chance sit next to the window looking out toward the marshes, it's a really nice view while you're eating your breakfast. The server and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is they serve red potatoes for their homefries and I can't stand red potatoes for breakfast. I think this is a Gloucester thing just like the homemade bread that every restaurant here serves. Other than that I'll probably go back. read more

I love this place (it's the Soundbites of Cape Ann, sans the rude host and owner)! A great spot off 133 (I think?) and always packed, but with very nice waitresses and staff. I've only had the breakfast, but it was one of the best eggs Benedict ever and my friend had the carrot cake pancakes with cream cheese frosting on the side, which she raved about. They have a great breakfast menu with everything a fisherman like myself needs for a long day on the water and everyone raves about the seafood, so I have to go back. I think the waitress was hitting on me, which always scores points with me! Has anyone noticed that Cape Ann has like 500 breakfast shops around a 10 mile radius? Is that all they eat? Update: Went back for brunch at 1 PM and they were already serving their lunch/dinner menu...you MUST try their tuna sashimi. Seriously, I joke around a lot and kid, but you will kick yourself if you miss it...think mounds of seaweed salad, fresh crab meat and all of that is topped with slightly seared Tuna Sashimi. We were informed by a local in Rockport that Lobster Land was a must so on our way home from the beach we stopped in for dinner. The place was packed as it was Saturday at 7 but we were able to snag two seats at the bar within a few minutes of arriving. We started with drinks. They have a great tap selection. I had the watermelon special. Drink prices were fair and the pours were generous. We started with the lobster chowder and scallop satay. The chowder was out of this world good. There were HUGE chunks of lobster in a delicious but not overpowering sherry/cream base. The scallops were cooked to perfection over a fresh cucumber salad with an accompanying peanut sauce that worked perfectly. For dinner we decided to split the seafood risotto. We waited a bit longer than most for their meal, but it was well worth the wait. The risotto was cooked to perfection. The dish was FULL of fresh, expertly cooked scallops, shrimp and grilled lobster. The lobster cream base was seasoned perfectly and once again, did not overpower the dish, letting the seafood shine. In looking around, all of the food looked delicious (especially the lobster roll). I cant say enough about what a great dining experience this was. I HIGHLY recommend a day at the beach followed by a meal here. read more

I went to Lobsta Land with a few friends after a day at the beach. I've often driven past Lobsta Land and always wanted to go and that sunny Sunday it all came together! We arrived straight from the beach in our cover-ups and beachy/slightly disheveled hair and were immediately seated at a booth. Stephanie W. and I split a bottle of J. Lohr Chardonnay that was not only tasty, but reasonably priced. Sarah G. and Jason stuck with the water, which was promptly refilled throughout the meal. Our Sampler platter was tasty and plentiful, everything fried seafood should be. I could have gone for a few extra of the coconut shrimp (there were only two on the platter), but they were huge so splitting them wasn't as big of a deal. My Lobsta was delicious and the highlight of the experience. I rocked out with my bib on and enjoyed every savory bite of it! Jason ordered the Fried Scallops and French Fries... the scallops were enormous, he was only able to eat half of the dish! Sarah G's Paella looked amazing! We'll definitely be back! Summer seafood classics perfected! Clam chowdah was phenomenal -- abundant, expertly cooked clams with a light broth and melt-in-your-mouth potatoes. Probably the best I've had in a while, and I live down the street from Island Creek. Haddock was juicy, fall-apart flaky goodness; perfectly fried. Lobster roll was simple with big, chunk meat on a delicious brioche roll. Nothing was greasy or heavy; I strongly recommend everything above. This restaurant is a little gem off the beaten path in Gloucester (it's just at the end of Rte. 128). We have eaten there three times this summer and we will definitely go back for more. The one dish that we ALWAYS order when we're there is the Spicy Littleneck Clams. (You can order them as an appetizer or as a dinner over fettuccini.) This delightful dish is comprised of a bowlful of lusciously plump littlenecks that have been steamed in "a spicy saffron lobster broth with Thai chilies, Taso, garlic, roasted plum tomatoes and white wine." The server brought extra rolls (freshly baked on-premises) to sop up the heavenly broth. This stuff is so good that I get cravings for it! Another dish we've had is the Paella: "Market fish, mussels, littleneck clams, shrimp, scallops and lobster in a saffron-chorizo risotto with scallions, garlic, peas, cilantro and lobster broth." The day I ordered it the market fish was fresh tuna. The flavors in this dish are fabulous and the seasonings are perfect. If you really want a treat check out the Seafood Risotto: "Lobster, shrimp and scallops tossed in our creamy risotto tossed with garlic, shallots, shaved parmesan and baby spinach, topped with grilled lobster tail and lobster cream sauce." Again, you won't believe the amount of seafood you'll get, and the grilled lobster tail is delicious. If you have room for dessert I recommend the Strawberry Shortcake, a delicious confection made with a homemade shortcake that soaks up the yummy strawberry juices and fresh whipped cream. The chef at Lobsta Land really knows his stuff. He conjures up some magically sumptuous flavors with a delicate hand. Do yourself a favor and check out Lobsta Land. Lived in Gloucester for two years but had to move away do to a business change. Laobstaland was one of my favorite spots. Food was always great. in many cases an eclectic mix of people. Well , finally got back over the Columbus day weekend. Stopped in for dinner with friends from New York. Their first time in the area . Hostess greeted us warmly, quickly sat us down. A few minutes later the server shows up... no greeting... no smile... just what do you want to drink. One person in the group did not have an answer at hand. The lady actually said well you not ready and I'll be back. No humor in her tone. So now I have to explain how some New Englanders are just a little remote.( not the case) She did not come back for nearly ten minutes and at 8:30 on a Sunday night the place was not packed. Not wanting to offend her any further, we ordered everything. Once she brought us some food she lightened up. And, actually said now I am paying attention to you?? All in all, the food was fantastic. My friends loved the food, drinks and salads. MY wife and I are Jeff Weaver fans and he did Lobstaland's murals. So, the rating would have been a four verging on a five but our server was not your best representative. The rating would have been lower but she her attitude warmed up as the nite went on. read more
