Pork Roll + Egg + Cheese
    Karen G.

I've always seen how busy Local 44 gets in the evenings and have been wanting to try the place for a while. I think I may have made a mistake to come for brunch instead of dinner as it was quite empty even during peak brunch times on a warm Saturday. I ordered the Pork Roll + Egg + Cheese and the Ghia Spritz. I was very excited to try the food when it came out and I would say that the home fries were perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. The first few bites of the pork roll were also good, the everything bun was a fun experience. However, it quickly became overwhelmingly salty. Between the bun, cheese, egg, and pork, the taste was not very balanced and I was struggling to continue to eat. My friend who ordered the Shrimp & Grits had a similar experience. The initial bites were great but we both felt like our dishes was salt forward with no balance. We chose to sit outside and although the weather was nice, the tables weee not very stable on the concrete and we kept almost letting our drinks slip to the ground. Unsure if I'd come back to try their lunch menu but will likely not come back for their brunch.

This is was me and my friend's first time going to local 44 and it was delicious! Unfortunately we came for a happy hour but they don't really have much of a happy hour. They have some discounted prices on wine and beers and that's all. But fortunately the food was still worth the stay! We all first tried the Brussels sprouts and in unison said "MMMMMM" when we took our first bite. It was absolutely delicious. And thankfully not only were the Brussels sprouts delicious but EVERY single item we ordered was cooked and seasoned beautifully! The sake was also very delicious! It is a bit pricy but you do get to keep the bottle it comes in which can be useful for future use. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the service could have been better. The host and our waiter threw the vibe off a bit. But the food is very worth returning

If you live anywhere near Local 44 and you want a good burger... they DEFINITELY have you covered. In my humble opinion, this burger ranks right up there with the burgers that get all of the attention in the city. It is seasoned perfectly, juicy, cooked just right and classic. Of course the fries here are some of my favorite, so there's that too.. but oh my gosh. This burger is one of my faves. And sometimes, on a Friday night, or any night you just need a burger. You should definitely make your way here.

This vibrant and romantic bar is located in my neighbourhood & really loved it. Went for the outdoor dining, they had outdoor heater too so didn't feel cold. The drinks were also good according to price. The waiter and servers were also cordial. The decor is decent and there's plenty of seating in and out. The food is a crapshoot. I've had the best and worst of every mainstay item. Stay away from specials, idk if the cooks make them up or if they're told what they are but they never have enough time to learn how to make it decent enough that it's worth serving. Some of the servers are absolutely wonderful, some of the servers are there to make a check. I used to be a weekly, sometimes multiple times a week visitor, now I only go if it's late and no other decent local options open.

Get the tofu bahn mi!! Decent outdoor seating and attentive staff. Should be notes that there is a fair amount of street action in this area.

Elevated bar food, friendly wait staff and local beer, that's what you have to look forward to at Local 44. The fries were my favorite part, Belgian style frites. The veggie burger was just okay. The kale salad surprised me, in a good way. A heaping amount of beets, but also subtle touches of heat with slices of fresh jalapeño mixed into the salad. To drink, I tried a local cider and a cocktail with kombucha and tequila. Solid all around!

Ive ended up at local 44 more nights in the past few months then i might have expected. I always loved this place but it kind of out of the blue became a semi-staple spot during my last month in philly. The drinks here are good and i think it's mayb the best spot in ucity/wphilly area for a good dive bar meal that kind of feels elevated cuz they use randomly fancy ingredients ? Idek its just really good and well made. I love the tofu banh mi and the fries with lots of malt vinegar. Initially i wasnt crazy about the veggie burger, but happenstance (i.e., they were out of banhmi) made it so i somehow ended up eating it two nights in a row, and it grew on me. Good spot to catch up w friends or have a lowkey date

Came in on a rainy night with my partner and still found that this place was decently full. Tbh im not sure why there aren't more glowing reviews about the food. I was truly in love with our meal. Although the dishes are simple, they were all very well done. The cauliflower and beet salad was shockingly my favorite thing. I intend to learn how to make this, I thought it so delicious. The jalapeños on our plate were very mild, so I'd be curious to know how this tastes when the jalapeños have more kick to them. My first impression of the lamb burger was that the patty seemed small for the bun, but then I realized the bun is so soft that you end up needing that ratio of bread to meat to have good support of the burger. I believe the onions were pickled, and I enjoyed the gentle acidity they brought to the lamb burger. I thought the cheeseburger would have nothing worth commenting on, but I was wrong. This cheeseburger featured some of the best pickles I've ever had. Crisp, fresh, and lightly pickled. I wondered if they made there in house. And the fries? Mm! Crispy, but soft. Our server was really sweet, and gave me beer recommendations. She didn't bat an eye at me sitting in the booth next to my partner for a little bit even though the table was small and intended to have one person on each edge. This place generally felt very queer friendly, which is no surprise given its in West Philly. We enjoyed the energetic vibe of this place at first, but I will say by the end of it the music was kind of loud for us. Throughout the conversation I felt like I was really having to project my voice to be heard. Still, I enjoyed every other aspect of this place so much that I didn't really mind. Would just keep in mind that it's a loud spot for the future.

The pub that I thought had their things together. I visited this place a few weeks ago, and know for sure I'll never go back, but I don't owe them any favors, so maybe I'll spare at least one more person from an unnecessary experience. I was not alone and my party enjoyed a meal there while I simply ate Brussel sprouts and ordered a burger to go, I didn't check them and this is my error, but I only live 5 minutes walking distance and called them as soon as I got home. To which I was hung up on, therefore I return and explain that I'd asked for no thousand island concoctions on my burger, and that they could please replace it with what I ordered, I was told yes and they eventually borrowed an additional half an hour. After this however, I presume someone assumed dishonesty in me or that I would not wait for my food, so in 30/45 minutes time the gentleman was surprised to still see me, and says, I'll just cancel the whole ticket from earlier. As if that solved my issue, the issue of me paying for food and not eating, I'd made a decision on what I'd eat and paid for it nearly 2 hours prior to him telling me that he wouldn't charge me or provide me with the one thing I ordered. To them I say good luck, cause they'll continue to do it without my support.

Charred broccoli with tofu, peanut sauce, chili crisp, and 6-min egg
    Weijia L.

Their brunch menu, while short, is all vegetarian/vegan dishes. Delicious bloody Mary. Friendly staff. Outdoor seats available. Parking is street only - I felt blessed to find a spot on the same block! I had the charred broccoli topped with a 6-min egg. That peanut sauce plus loads of chili crisp made the dish a flavor bomb. It was a light dish, just filling enough without overbearing your stomach. Highly recommend :)

    Excited to try the apps!

Inviting to all, but very much a safe space for Blackness. It was what I would hope from Philly's first Black brewery. The food system was pretty cool. No Liberty Kitchen that night, but we ordered through an app and were notified when our food serviced from Corio was ready. They leave it on tray for you to pickup. The cocktail I had was very good and the bartender was friendly. The comedy show was 'eh,' I'll give it a pass. Some were funnier than others, and you could tell a few were still working on their craft. Comedy is hard. Overall, I'm excited for all their offerings like their tours, nearby beer garden and themed events.

The first thing that stands out to me about Two Locals is the huge space with all kinds of amenities. Whether its a seat at the bar, grabbing a seat by a barrel, or grabbing a table for a group of any size; it has the perfect seating arrangement for you. While the brewery side only serves libations the space also features the Landing Kitchen serving all kinds of damn good food. Another plus is the huge variety of games that they have to play, including an ice breakers questions game that made for a good second date activity. The service at Two Locals is great and filled with bartenders who provide good brew suggestions. And I love that Two Locals is a brewery that goes beyond pouring IPAs while also pouring some damn good ones.. Favorite beers of mine from here include the Nubian brown ale, the Gaspar dark Mexican lager, the Riots smoked rauchbier, and the Foway farmhouse saison. For events outside of beer Two Locals features events like a comedy showcase, movie screenings, gospel karaoke, and then some. And starting in Apirl 3rd they'll also be partnering with UCity Square to have a pop-up beer garden in The Lawn.

Things to note: you have to "sign in" on your phone before you can enter. This causes a line on some busy nights - such as last night, their opening night at the Azalea garden. My partner had an issue because his phone wasn't loading and they would not let him in! Even after checking his ID. Luckily, he was able to borrow my phone to sign in. If they require sign in for entry, they should at least have an iPad (or paper) for those that are unable to do it on their phones. As far as beer selection, didn't LOVE the choices, they were okay, I thought I remembered some better options last year. I got the 2SP up and out, which is good, but didn't think the other options were great. I personally don't go to Parks on Tap for food, but if you would like food they have it. Our friends ordered the Mexican street corn dip, but they were not a fan of it. However, the atmosphere is wonderful, I love the aspect of getting out in a park in the city and having a few beers and relaxing! It's unique and fun. It's also great that it travels, I'm excited to try some of the other locations. The upstairs area has a chill vibe with some Mario-themed art as well as a TV. It seems that the kitchen is upstairs, so a lot of waiters were flying by out table to the staircase. Our waiter was pretty chill. Apparently an O's fan, he was excited to learn we're from Baltimore. Food was all fantastic. The style of fries isn't my preference, but they were decent. Other than that, I was blown away. Child #1 and Child #2 got some items from the Kids' menu - grilled cheese and cheeseburger. Bread and Butter appetizer. Is it expensive for just being bread and butter? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes. The homemade bread is great, but combine it with honey butter with flaky salt, and it's incredible. Loads of reviews on Yelp talked about the sausage roll. GET IT. It's greasy and filling in all the right ways. Goes great with a beer. My wife got the burger and she found it to be very tasty. I got the Grilled Maitake Mushrooms dish and holy cow; it's perfect. Even if you're not a vegetarian (I'm not), you can appreciate this dish: crispy rice cake (not the dry kind from the store), tender baby bok choy, and of course the well-cooked mushrooms are tied together with black vinegar, garlic-whipped tofu (!), and a peanut sauce. A++ would absolutely get again. The food menu has some staples, but overall it does change nightly, so make sure you check it out before you come. Apparently, on Sundays, they do a different experimental flavor of wings. I was curious, but my stomach has only so much room, so I had to draw the line. There is a respectable drink menu. My wife got the blood orange mezcalita, which she liked, but thought the smoke flavor was more subtle than described. I got the Plum Fizz and would totally get it again. Pleasantly-sour with a nice fizz. It's a nice pub in a nice neighborhood of a major city - be prepared for prices to match. But it is absolutely worth it.
