I had a much better food experience here than the last time I came. Again, I love the hot almond milk drink! Also, you get free soup, garlic bread, and dessert tapioca(?) when you come in during the weekday. I highly recommend #1, which is a pork chop, fried chicken wing, and fried egg over rice and red & white sauce. Great crispy texture on the pork chop and chicken wing! I heard that this place was like Top Cafe - Asian Fusion Food. It was my first time coming to this type of restaurant, and my experience wasn't bad. We went here for brunch on November 21, and there was the breakfast special from 8am to 11am. Prices were extremely cheap for a lot of food. All of the breakfast prices were under $6 and it comes with coffee or hot milk tea. I ordered the mushroom omelet with a choice of toast or hash brown. I chose the hash brown. You get two pieces of hash brown which is great since they taste like the ones at McDonalds! The mushroom omelet was interesting. There was tomato sauce in it which is an interesting twist. My hubby ordered the pork chop cutlet with hash brown and eggs. He enjoyed the pork chop. My other family members ordered porridge, and there were several varieties. I tried some of the porridge with pork and thousand year old eggs which was pretty good. I just avoided the eggs since the flavor is too strong for me. I noticed that the clientele for this restaurant is Chinese people, so this place must be good. In addition, I saw the workers give kids a Capri Sun drink. Cute! Super exceed expectations and a greaaaat deal for afternoon snack and late night eats. Open until midnight, they have a special late night menu (kinda like happy hour!) which is $7 including a drink (milk tea or coffee). Apparently this is true Hong Kong styled food, as I was told by a Chinese friend ... so hey why not? The place was pretty crowded around lunch time and the abundance of Chinese people just told me this place was legit. Truth. I didn't know what to order and noticed they had a similar menu to that of Top Cafe, which is HK styled food as well. Although this place looked more popular and by far way cleaner and welcoming. I opted for the fried chicken curry over rice. The lunch meals come with a sweet tomato, vegetable soup, garlic bread, hot tea and hot or cold milk tea. The portions are on the large side, but that's coming from me who has a stomach about the size of a fist. The curry was delicious, lots of flavor, piping hot and poured over deep fried chicken wings that remind me of 99 chicken or pork rinds. It comes with scoops of rice on the side. I could only get down about a third of my dish and half of the wings, should've saved the teas for last. Also, if you are a caffeine junky you must get the cold milk tea ... it comes with the meal and leaves you bouncing off the walls all day. I'm a regular tea drinker and was wired off this stuff till dinner time, take note I ate here for lunch. The service was good for an Asian establishment, they speak English, refills your drinks and are welcoming. For about 7 dollars+ you get a large amount of food and included appetizers + beverages and the food is not all that bad. Some of the dishes may seem kind of odd, but HK style food is fast, casual and usually based on their take on Western cuisine as well as influences from Japan, parts of China and India. 4 stars because it's cheap and the portions are huge! Venus is definitely going to become a go to place for late night munchies or if we're looking for a quick and budget friendly meal. I ordered a egg & pork porridge and my bf got the guilin noodles, which is basically a beef and peanut noodle soup. We were both pretty happy with our orders and even had to take home leftovers since there was so much food. To top it off, the bill was under $13 (!!) which was awesome. The only downside is that they are cash only, which is pretty convenient. Service is as you would expect at a place like this - nonexistent. Epic portions and great value coupled with delicious food will win my heart and my stomach everytime. :) I've been here twice now and both times I've gorged on the unhealthy but oh-so satisyfing food laid in front of me until there was none left and my stomach had already transformed into a giant, pudgy ball pillow. I've tried their baked pork chop with chicken wing and fried egg along with their baked pork chop with tomato, eggplant, and ground beef and I loved both of them. The baked pork chops are succulent and tender. The chicken wing had a nice crispy skin and was juicy inside. And the sauces, oh the sauces, are just plain awesome. Great sweet and savory flavors. The food isn't anywhere close to being at the level of "you need try this, it's mind-blowing," but it's tasty, comforting, and damn well satisfying. To add to the glorious fattiness, they serve you a complimentary soup coupled with garlic bread to start. I've been served a tomato soup the first time and the second time some kind of corn chowder. I've also gotten a complimentary dessert soup here the first time, but not the second :( So there are some inconsistencies in the dining experience. This place is really good for a couple of good dishes. Personally, I prefer the club sandwiches, and the fish and chips, and the French toast. The reason the French fries in the club sandwiches, fish and chips, is really good is because they are really fat, and are not skinny like a lot of them. The sandwiches may be big, but if you wolf em down good, it'll taste good. The fish and chips are basically fries and and fried fish, but in the shape of chips, and the outside is really good because it is crunchy, and all the bits fall down into your mouth. The French toast is really done well, with the syrup capable of soaking into the toast while at the same time, the toast is crispy on the outside. However, sometimes, the syrup falls onto your hand, but at the same time, is that your fault or not? Also, they pack it really nice in the takeout versions. The takeout is like a hard paper/plastic? box/plate, and is really easy to eat from. Edit: I forgot, yes, the place is pretty clean, and they have outdoor seating, with a little overhang for it. The indoor seating have little cushions on both the seating area and the back. They give you the food in bags, and you interact minimally, as for takeout, you either order from phone, website, or in store, and they put everything into paper/plastic? boxes, and put those into plastic bags, ready for takeout or delivery. I really liked this place! Friends and I were craving rice and we came across this place. Though I'm not super familiar with HK food, the menu is extensive (and can be a bit overwhelming). I opted to get the baked spaghetti bolognese and pork chops over rice. SOO GOOD and inexpensive too!! And the portion size was rather large! I left having only spent $13 (including tip!) and leaving super happy and full. Geez, that baked mini pork is my favorite because its sour&sweet red sauce with baked cheese plus rice. You will feel sauce, pork and rice they all melted together...can't describe how I felt but definitely very delicious. The tofu clay pot was okay, with plenty of tofu, but it needed more vegetables. The pork chow mein was too salty. Much too salty. I returned a few days later to try their peanut butter French toast sandwich. I love peanut butter anything. Maybe my expectations were too high. This seriously disappointed. It's two slices of flimsy white bread spread with a thin layer of peanut butter, dipped in unflavored egg and fried. Save your $6 and make it at home. I also ordered the eggplant and pork rice plate. On to the food--i got the vegetable lo mein. to be honest, it was okay but a little bit lacking in the flavor department. it was DRENCHED in sauce, but it wasn't very good sauce..it was really mild. maybe because i got veggie lo mein? i dont know, but i would not order the same dish again. My friend got lo mein with beef. the lo mein, i should add, is made with thin crispy noodles (maybe that's normal for hong kong style noodles and I'm just a noob...) but i was taken by surprise when i didnt get the thick cooked noodles. it was still good. my friend really enjoyed his dish, which makes me think that the veggie option explains the flavorless mound of food. all in all, this place is okay. i probably won't go back here, but it's nothing against the restaurant, just my personal taste. read more

Local Cafe is similar to fast, casual dining you might find in Hong Kong. Perhaps something like a "Denny's" of Cantonese Food. These places are popular to pop in for a quick, but tasty bite to eat. Including staples like your classic Hong Kong breakfast, macaroni soup, buttered toast, milk tea and sweet pineapple buns, to assorted one person dishes like baked pork chop over rice, wonton noodle soup, and assorted satay curry noodles. The flavors don't quite match what you may find overseas, but for something reminiscent or at least close to your Cantonese fast food, it does the job. There's not a ton of these in the South Bay Area, so this one will do just fine. Try the Portuguese baked chicken over rice with a cup of cold lemon tea, or HK style milk tea. If you're not into particularly heavy food, maybe try the wonton noodles. There's a parking lot outside, but this plaza is quickly becoming all chinese/Taiwanese, save the McDonald's. My review pertains only to the 3 item dinner combo for $23, since that's all I've had here. I ordered the seafood combo hot pot, tofu, shredded pork stir fry, and the mei-gan pork belly. First off, the portions are generous! They do not differ from individually ordered dishes. There was plenty of seafood in the combo clay pot, and the stir fry was a heaping mound of tofu, celery and pork. The pork belly was interesting. The dish is traditional but the presentation was novel. Instead of stewed cubes of belly, it was thick slices of belly with the mei-gan as a sauce on top. Fancy. My mom and I come here very often (at least once a week). The people are fairly nice (especially the bald guy). That girl who wears glasses and has her hair up in buns is rather annoying though... every time we see her, she totally ignores us flailing our hands around and my mom ends up having to yell out "EXCUSE ME!", which garners attention from all the other patrons in the restaurant and is embarrassing. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that while ignoring us, she just stares at the T.V. in the corner the whole time. Who knows? She doesn't seem to look like she cares much about the customers either. The long-haired girl who wears a ponytail and has full bangs is sweet, even though she doesn't seem to notice us sometimes, she tries. I usually get the Baked Spaghetti Bolognese, and my mom gets the Gnow Lam Tong Mien (don't know how to translate that properly). Sometimes I get the Baked Pork Chop w/ Rice instead, and it's surprisingly good and the cut is very moist. We also sometimes order the fried chicken wings, which are very nice and a much better deal than Top Cafe (you get like 8 pieces for around the price you'd pay at TC for 4). The milk tea hasn't always been great, but it's getting better. I remember my friend's mom was giving the owner tips about how to make it better, and the next time she went, he gave her a free milk tea. The prices are pretty nice deals for what you get. Happy hour you can get a slightly smaller version of what you order + a complimentary drink (pay extra if you order a cold drink, just like in HK) for around $1-2 cheaper. I'm not Cantonese so I probably am not one to speak to this, but this place has the feel of a Chinese/Canto Denny's. It's open late and has lots of greasy filling foods in portion sizes that come big enough (and more) for growing boys. I've heard epic lore of the 大哥大, a dish that no longer exists, likely due to the fact that it was gigantic and way too big for any one person to reasonably put away. I like this place for times when you're hungry and want some creamy baked rice late into the night. SO awful. How can it be bland and disgusting at the same time?? It was nearly tasteless but you got a punch of italian herbs. WHY?? It was inedible. The white sauce also is cornstarch based vs. flour/roux based, if you care. We also got the creamy chicken and corn soup and it tasted exactly the same as the white sauce on the pork chop rice. Here's my tip: Don't order anything labeled "cream." You're welcome. We also ordered satay beef pan fried beef noodle-- a favorite of mine previously. On this visit the dish was OK, but again, a little bland. We ordered Scrambled Egg with Shrimp over Ho Fun and the ho fun was hard. Not bland, but strong soy sauce flavor (though not too salty). When we walked in, the first thing I noticed was that all of the people eating inside were Chinese, which is always a good sign for authentic Chinese food! This place was recommended by my Dad's friend whose parents from Hong Kong love this place. We got our table right away, but our booth wasn't very clean and a little weird because the seat had padding surrounding the corners of our seat, which made it very uncomfortable. So this place is a dive, but all the food here is really authentic, and isn't too greasy or salty. We ordered our food, which came out very quickly. The first thing that came out was the pan fried seafood noodle. At some Chinese places, the noodles are covered in soy sauce, which makes them way too salty. However, at this place, there was just a small portion of clear sauce on it, which helped the noodles stay crispy and not too salty. The noodles were also very thin, which made them even crispier. The pan fried seafood noodles were good, yet the highlight of the meal was the Ho Fun. The beef was very soft, and not too salty. The noodles were prepared perfectly, as they were soft, not too salty, and not too oily either. At most places, the Ho Fun is too oily because they use too much oil when frying the noodles. However, the noodles are already oily, so there isn't any need for much more oil to be added. This is a really solid meal because of the variety of dishes they have here, and also because of the price you can eat at for the quality of food that you get. read more
