Service: fast ordering and fast food prep! Food: Good chengdu soups and food, I wish there was a bit more clarity on the menu but there are plenty of options! We usually get the fish soup or beef soup :) both good options and you can make it spicier,.. if you dare. Their takeout seems to also be very consistent in packaging! Ambiance: Casual eats spots.

This is my new favorite Chengdu restaurant! There's plenty of restaurants now in the Bay that serve the spicy soup/dry mix of ingredients that's popular in Chengdu region but many of them are chains and their spice mix is too salty and not balanced enough for me. Too much of Chinese red pepper (Hua jiao) flavor which can be bitter when not in balance with other spices imo. A few of those places are also too oily for my taste. What I love about Local Chengdu is that because it's a mom and pop and the cooking is more intentional and more delicious. Everything tastes different and has their own flavors vs many of the skewer/soup places now where everything taste the same regardless of the ingredients (ahem four sisters for instance). Everything is delicious and also the price for the portions is super generous. There's so much beef and other thing in the dry mix pot (a must get imo) There bentos are also stellar, only 15 for lunch but comes with generous portions of 3 different stir fries that all taste different. This is now my go-to when I want a good Chinese meal that feels like my mom cooked it. Highly recommended!!

Well, the hot bowls with your choice of dishes added is Good concept! Very tasty and nice size portions! Simply put, this place has really good food! Pics included! However, the service sucks and this lady will be out of business I predict within two years.... The inside is like half a cafeteria, half warehouse .... Not attractive, not coz or warm and too dark inside. The restroom is disgustingly grimly folks! Not a date place ..... but again, affordable and great food! You select a base broth then choose the combination fish or beef dish to add. The eggplant was really good cooked in oil and oyster sauce! I may go back but three places in this location evaporated too though the food was good!

We ordered the Happy Family hot bowl; it came out really fast. The broth had the classic Szechuan chili oil soup flavor. It was numbing, but not so much you cannot taste the food. I liked the variety of ingredients. Everything from Spam, beef, quail eggs, Napa cabbage, kamaboko (fish cake) ... there were so many different items to eat. The bowl was very tasty.

AMAZING, DELICIOUS, AUTHENTIC this restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem. Knew it was a good restaurant when our friends said that they dined here weekly (and they're from cheng du so they know what's up) Super clean and stylish restaurant space with prompt service, which complimented the incredible food. We got three dishes, but their fried coated tofu was mouthwateringly delicious. Each bit gave a crisp texture that collapsed into a juicy savory center that oozed into a beautifully umami sauce. The outside was seasoned too for exploding flavor every single bite. Get it for sure (包浆豆腐). I did not exaggerate how good it was. I honestly think their hot bowls could be better seasoning wise but I'm not complaining with the amount of portions they served up. Honestly kind of hard to find a place with such a friendly price. Very reasonable indeed. Overall this restaurant is epic. We're going to be regulars from now on.

This place goes heavy on seasoning IMO which makes everything taste good. Cumin beef: Never seen this in other places but we think the lamb, which they also offer, may have paired better with the cumin. Popcorn chicken: Tasted like Taiwanese popcorn chicken (same seasonings) but surrounded by garlic pieces as well. The batter was thin so it wasn't super crispy like Popeye's chicken or anything but it wasn't at all soggy/too soft either. Fried rice: I wish it contained more than just egg and a few pieces of green onion but it was fairly savory...which I think was because of the MSG. I don't have a problem with MSG but just a warning to those who might be sensitive to it. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while so I immediately turned around after walking in.

This restaurant can seem a bit unassuming, but it is a hidden gem of good food for decent value. First of all, ordering is done through QR code on the table, but my one gripe was that some of the item listings don't give enough details about what's included. Regardless, the server was very friendly, adding a smile to every interaction. The paper menu had a lot of detail into each order. The hot pots come as individual or 2-person combos. For less than 20 dollars per person, the hot pot combo is so worth it, especially for 2 people. Keep in mind that the 2-person combo requires that both people get the same soup base even though the 2-person combo comes with 2 pots, 2 bowls, and 2 drinks. Inside the hot pot is a large variety of hot pot ingredients. There was a good mix of vegetables, meat items, and others. The beef was also plentiful as well as juicy. Overall, service and value was exceptional here. I would gladly be a regular!

蓉城冒菜 The first two characters are a nickname for ChengDu. The second two are the style of cooking this place claims to specialize. It's pre fixe "base" plus protein of your choice (or vegetarian). It simplifies the menu and therefore speed up dishes that otherwise will take long time to prepare. We ordered two single-person hot-bowls to share among 4 adults. Then two dishes. That appeared enough. Overall, the seasoning was intense, but not too much to overshadow the ingredients. I would recommend this place for those above average on the spicy spectrum. The "House Special Dry Mixed" plus beef was appetizing, particularly with some blend starch (steam rice included). The Pickled Fish Fillet Soup Base plus Seafood showed good number of large shrimps. The soup was a bit spicy and good acidity with pickled veggie: quite delicious. Did not detect fish fillet though. From "other popular dishes", we ordered Coated Tofu. It's fried with heavy seasoning tofu. It's a meh. Deep Fried Pork Chop were pork slices (with bones), deep fried and coated with SiChuan style seasoning. Not bad. The bowls came with rice and a drink so common in China that we giggled for nostalgia. It's diluted sweetened plum juice.

I had very fond memories of the spicy beef dry pot from the first time I came here for dinner, but I went to Local Chengdu for early lunch recently and it was unfortunately a letdown. Ingredients didn't seem as fresh as before. I ordered the hot bowl combo which came with a hot bowl, a drink (jasmine green tea, no longer the plum juice they offered), and rice, and here's what I thought: Sliced Beef in House Special Dry Mixed Bowl (3.5/5): well-seasoned and had a good mala flavor. The flavor was numbing but not so strong that my tongue feels like it's dying. Some pieces of the sliced beef were hard to chew and a couple pieces of the napa cabbage were bitter. However, I liked how they were generous with the variety of toppings the bowl came with, including quail eggs, crab sticks, spam, sliced potatoes, fungus, lotus roots, dried bean curd, etc. A small bowl was more than enough to feed 1 hungry person. Jasmine green tea (4.5/5): refreshing paired with the mala bowl.

Food: - fish with spicy soup (4/5) - beef dry pot (4/5) - free side dish with $50 purchase: seaweed (4/5) great taste but like it to be cooked a little more - spicy green beans (5/5) perfect crunch and flavor - free plum drinks (4/5) Service: waitress was nice and told us just to order 2 hot pot for 3 of us. The portion is huge. We had two containers of food to take home. Ambiance: clean and modern We'll come back again to try the other flavors and free quail eggs side dish next time. $70 for above including tips.

Top left is the mushroom soup bowl with beef. The mushroom soup is spicy enough to make your tongue tingle but not enough to make your nose runny. The beef is soft and the variety in the soup is nice. The top right seafood hot bowl with a side of beef ( bottom ). It only contains shrimp but they are juicy and abundant. The side of beef is spicy too. Everything felt very clean to eat with balanced flavors. The soups are deliciously spicy. Will definitely come back here!

As a fan of Chengdu-style food, I was really looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, coming here was a mistake. Starting off, I ordered the Pigs Feet as an appetizer. Long story short, after MULTIPLE inquiries, it finally arrived about 5 minutes AFTER I was done eating and was boxing up my leftovers. I really ordered the appetizer because I arrived hungry, but I'm very flexible. Even if it had arrived with my meal, I would've been fine with it. But after I'm completely done??? Why not just inform me up front that that it would take 50 minutes? The waitress just kept saying it would be ready in 10 minutes ...over and over and over. They ended up offering to comp the pigs feet I ordered and I took it to go (haven't tried yet). Interestingly, the pigs feet that arrived on my table as I was boxing up my food was visibly piping hot. BUT the dish they pulled from the back was almost refrigerator-like cold and definitely smaller than the one they originally brought out. Was this even the same dish????? And if it was cold, why did it take 50 minutes??? I'm not complaining about a comped item, but what's really going on here???? You can choose from one of their soup-based hot bowls or the Dry Mixed (without soup). I got the House Special Dry Mixed combo with meat and seafood. Note that the combo option is written in Chinese only. I like that there's a variety of items, but they're not individually specified. It's broadly stated as "different kinds of vegetables, meatballs, wide tapioca noodles," etc., so be sure you're not allergic to anything. Also, unless you speak fluent Chinese, it's unlikely you'll get an accurate translation. Why not just list the specific meats, seafood and veggies? Even listed items weren't accurate. It stated that it included wide tapioca noodles. Nope. I got instant ramen noodles and a small bundle of vermicelli noodles. It also stated that the combo would come with a cup of plum juice. Nope. It never appeared. I didn't even notice it until I finished paying and was honestly just done with this place. On top of everything else, no one every came even once to check up on anything, even though staff passed my table MANY times. I had to ask MULTIPLE times for everything like water (no refills were made), extra napkins, boxes etc. Oh, I should add too that the beef was very fatty with a lot of gristle. The pluses are that the flavor of the dry pot wasn't bad and I liked the very spicy heat. The interior is pleasant enough, but the table was kind of sticky and had water remains from a glass rim leftover from the previous diners.

What keeps us coming back is how well they balance heat and flavor. The spice here never feels like a stunt -- it builds alongside real depth and seasoning. The Qiao Jiao Niu Rou (跷脚牛肉) is a standout -- a Sichuan-style boiled beef dish served in a rich, aromatic broth that somehow lands the spice-to-savory ratio perfectly every time. The Shui Zhu Yu (水煮鱼) is also worth ordering; the fish is decent quality, silky in texture, and the numbing chili oil broth does its job well. The restaurant ambient environment is ok and does get crowded often, but honestly that's just a symptom of being good - this place has built a real following in the South Bay.
