My wife and I moved to Auburn a little over a year ago and were very pleased once we got around to trying Local Heros. Everything is fresh and was cooked to the way we ordered it. They are certainly more expensive than places like In-n-Out but they are serving a completely different product. So happy to find this place. After realizing that I have a major wheat sensitivity, I can no longer have a traditional burger with a bun. Found out that this place has gluten free buns, so I had to try it, after months of ordering bunless burgers. So good! I ordered the Roper burger with goat cheese and was so happy to "hold" a burger with my hands vs. using a fork and knife! Besides that, it was so good! The bacon was so crisp, not chewy and staying in one piece when biting into it, and the gluten free bun was indistinguishable from a conventional bun. The onion rings were surprisingly crunchy and not greasy...what a great treat! Fries were so obviously fresh, that it brought me back to when I was a kid and had real fries at my family restaurant. Strawberry shake was a double thumbs up for my husband, so that's a plus. The best thing about this place is that it is obviously a local place, not like the "other" place where all the Tahoe bound people eat. Parking was easy and the pricing was great. Currently the County is in a complete lock-down and this diner is operating? I stopped by my usual place for burgers (Max's Diner), saw the notice on the door, County overrun with COVID cases, overwhelming hospitals, healthcare facilities and staff. I drove home and drive pass this location and notice they have their diner in full swing like a super-spreader event. I went to see how they were opened and noticed, they were not suppose to be opened. They had about 30 - 40 people, no mask, no gloves, no sanitizer, no social distancing, food handlers were not even masking up. How horrible! This business cares so little for its patrons that they are putting all of them "at risk". I presume, their philosophy is kill thy customer with a virus. I have purposefully made sure I support local small business during this pandemic, but then you see something like this. Best I can say, "Local Heroes" or "Local Zeros", I will NEVER support this business pandemic or not. Oh, and FYI, $10 hamburger (no sides or drinks) with a side of COVID, not interested. read more

They have a good beer selection and they're the only place I know of that has ghost pepper cheese. They'll also make you deep fried jalapeño rings (not on the menu) as a side. If I add a soda the meal is more food than I can handle. I almost always leave this place completely full. On two visits to local family I have tried their basic single burger with cheese, fries, and chocolate malt shake and came to the same conclusion each time, best ever. Be that as it may, I don't understand the negative reviews. Hell, they'll even let you sample their beers on tap. The burgers are excellent and probably the best in Auburn. It looks like they hire local "kids" which might explain part of the questionable service others have noted. But in my experience, they do a better than credible job, which is ringing praise for millennials. Do yourself a favor and give Local Heroes a try. After a long long day the bad part of my brain wanted burger and the good part of my brain was powerless to stop it. This place is a cool local spot. They have multiple articles on local people and photos of Placer High sports legends. I am a sucker for that stuff. Burger is the specialty of the house. They have about 10 different specialty burgers and I am sorry that I didn't photograph the choices. I selected the "A-Town". It came with Bacon, grilled red onion and a generous amount of American. There was of course LTP. A beautiful Brioche bun cradled the burger. The burger was a bit underseasoned and cooked to well. You are not given a choice on cooking temperature.
