During my 30-minute lunch break, I was able to transfer the title into my name and renew the tags on a truck I purchased through a private-party sale. My office is about a 15-minute round trip away, and I still made it back to work 2 minutes early. The $68 service fee was more than I would have paid at the DMV, but the convenience was absolutely worth it. Went in because I was hearing problems from the breaks on the front end they checked it out. They said it wasn't the front breaks or rotors that it was actually the back brakes and then when I went to pick up my car the technician said that my problem should be solved. I wouldn't hear any more noise. I drove off the lot got home was still hearing the squeaky noise called them back. They told me to drive 150 miles to break them in yeah, that would be true if it was the back brakes but it wasn't. I went ahead and put it in a different shop and they told me yes it is the front brakes and rotors they replaced it haven't heard any noise since I will not be back to the shop. read more

I've been a happy customer of theirs for over 5 years. I go there for DMV services and mechanical issues that arise on my classic truck. Recently I had a standard alternator repair. Much to my surprise a week later it wasn't running right. We all know that can cause anxiety after just paying for a repair however one phone call to them and then an anxiety was gone. So my first visit to Local Heroes was awesome. I took my car in for a check and liquids top off. They provided the service and even did a check on my check engine light, found it was nothing, and got the light off. They also checked my tires and confirmed tread, brakes, etc were all good. All great things. I was happy with the service and the price and decided to take my car here next time because of the positive experience. BIG MISTAKE I took my car in for another similar service, but also noted that the brake pads weren't feeling right and that I thought they may need to be replaced. There was a ton of miscommunication with my scheduling because they have multiple systems/contact points and clearly weren't communicating my rescheduling well. They didn't have someone lined up to check my car when I showed up, so they asked me to leave the car for four hours so they could put someone on it later. Not a huge issue since my schedule was a little more flexible that day. They call me to pick up my car and I do. When I pick it up, they tell me I need new brake pads/shoes all the way around and need rear suspension work. Okay, please give me a quote and I'll follow up. The folks had the AUDACITY to quote me $2,600 for brakes/shoes all the way around and rear struts replacement. They had to order the parts too, so it was going to be a few days before they could even service my car next. ALSO, they didn't even top off my fluids as they did previously. The service was about $65 and all they did was give me a list of what was wrong with my car - nothing actually done to improve my car. So, I ask friends for recommendations around the area. I found Ken at Goodrich Onsite Brakes. He scheduled me for a day and a half later, ordered the parts INCLUDING struts for my front wheels as well, completed the job at a location of my choosing, did the work by himself, and got it all done within 3hrs. The best part? He charged me under $1,200 for brake pads/shoes all the way around and struts all the way around. He did more work in less time for less than half the price I was quoted. It's one thing to upcharge a little if you're at a shop to finance the needs of the shop, but it's a whole other thing to more than double the price for less work. That's unacceptable and a complete scam. So, buyer beware! They will treat you well to get you in again only to try to completely screw you over. If you don't know tons about cars, know they WILL take advantage of you. Glad I've got car people in my life that can point me in the right direction. read more

Just had my car smogged and registered at Local Heroes Auto Care. I had originally called looking for NorCal Car Care. Apparently NorCal has retired and the business was replaced by Local Heroes Auto Care. I decided to go ahead and schedule an appointment with them to give them a try. I WASN'T DISAPOINTED AT ALL. Nice customer service on the phone. It was very easy to make an appointment. Didn't have to wait on the day of my appointment. They got my car in, smogged it, and got it out in less than half an hour. They handle all the DMV paperwork right there in their office. I left with new tags. Friendly service from both the office worker and the mechanic. They have two nice waiting rooms with couches, big screen TVs, coffee. The price was completely reasonable. I will definitely be handling my Smog and registration with them next year as well. read more

My truck broke down not far from this place. Doug got his batteries checker and walked it to my truck. He said its not your battery but your starter. We walked back to the shop and Melissa helped me find a tow truck. This is all happening on New Years day at 4:45 pm when everything is closing early. The people were all so nice and did everything to get us back on the road again. Melissa called the parts store and Toni ran to the store to pick up a starter. It was the wrong one so she went back again to get the correct one. They kept the shop open until Doug finished putting the starter in and we were on our way. I brought my 2006 corvette in for a new clutch master cylinder. I was twice quote 2 1/2 labor for repair. on am I drop off car. I am now told 5 hours labor to do job. 8 hours later they cant start my car because mechanic didn't install properly. I didnt get car back for 3 days. when I get it back I could barley drive car since clutch wasn't adjusted properly. I had to adjust myself to make car driveable. they claimed they are gm certified but im not a mechanic and I was able to fix all problems they couldn't. I will never go to this joke of a repair ever again and you will be smart if you do the same! read more

While they fixed my problem they also charged me for 5 hours of laybor for simple 20 minute tasks they're original diagnosis was incorrect they wanted $800 to replace a gasket that only leaked during coldstart I told them I didn't want to spend that much money for something that wasn't guaranteed to be the problem then a couple hours later after I told them I would be coming to pick the vehicle up they called me back and magically found the real problem they would have charged me over $1000 if I would have done the gasket ($50) and the fuel filter ($22) and a mas air flow censor ($50) read more

The people you talk to are super nice but it must cover up for the fact that they are swindling you. Just like the other review said: I was quoted for brakes and was told that I needed all new brakes. I had just paid them $3,700 for tires, oil pan replacement, timing belt, and leaking head gasket. That seemed legit but what do I know. They then quoted me something like $1,200 for a full brake job. I was visiting my brother over Christmas so I asked him since he is a mechanic. He said he would do it for parts cost. Of course I had him do it but the part that earned Local Heroes 1-star is the fact that the only thing we needed to replace were the back pads. Front rotor and pads looked nearly new and rear rotor still had plenty of wear left. Moreover, when we put the car on the lift, it was pissing fluid from the engine. Found out it was radiator coolant. The coolant was coming from the clamps around the heater core and the clamp to the thermostat housing. They replaced the hoses but didn't tighten the clamps. What's worse is that they obviously didn't bother driving it or even pressure testing it because we noticed it pissing when we pressure tested the system at 17.5 PSI. Shotty work at best and I paid them $3,700!!!. I would take it back and have them give me better clamps but I don't trust them and I live up in Cloverdale now so it flat out isn't worth my time. Don't let the smile at the door fool you. Go somewhere else. read more

We took our new "2010 Used car" to Local Heroes (close to home) to diagnose possible engine needs. They quoted us $3500.00 to fix everything they said we needed. So we took it over to our regular mechanic who also ran a diagnostic and we ended up with a tune up was all he said we needed ~ $487.00 Local Heroes told us our brakes were "glazed" and needed replacement. Our regular mechanic said we had 75% on the front and 40% on the rears. Quite a difference!! An honest mechanic will save you a bundle of money!! read more
