This was a surprisingly delicious and gourmet find! At first I was frustrated with the lack of cocktails (distilled liquor) due to antiquated prohibition liquor laws. However, we had the most delicious wine drinks. Everything was spot on and the portions were not obnoxiously huge. The best part? No tipping. I was in the mood for something new and different, so when my partner asked me where I wanted to go out, I told him the Lodgepole. The Lodgepole is another hip restaurant that reminds me of Seattle. The vibe and food are reminiscent of the Seattle restaurant scene. It makes me feel at home. The food was delicious. The service was a bit disappointing. However, it was rectified by the manager. It was not too much of an issue, but the manager's apology went a long way. I had no idea what to expect from my Gnocchi when I ordered it. The menu states it is seasonal and has no description. I think the server described it but there was noise and distraction, so I missed it. At first, I was not sure. I am used to gnocchi being with red sauce, made some Italian way. This was different. I ate it and fell in love. It was not my usual far but it was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised! My House Salad was really good as well. Loved the dressing and the Cougar Gold cheese! Seafood this far inland is not usually the freshest and not something you order. However, the Lodgepole has fresh oysters. They are receiving shipments multiple times a week to keep their supply fresh. Knowing this, I could not help myself and I ordered two. They were wonderful, just like they are at home! I finished out the night with Bread Pudding. Of course as soon as the server said bread pudding, I told him I did not need to hear the rest of the desserts. Bread pudding has my heart! This one was really good. I liked the little brown sugar on top and the sugary drizzle. I was not too much of a fan of the really strong red sauce (I cannot remember what it was). Accessibility: The restaurant is mostly accessible. There are no steps. All parking is street parking. However, there are a few accessible spots around. The tables are tightly spaced so maneuvering could be difficult. The tables are all low. All chairs except a few have arms. Half the tables are half booths and the other are tables and chairs. There are a couple booths. The washrooms are accessible with grab bars. The restaurant is noisy and it was an issue at times. The lighting is decent and should not be an issue. There is nowhere to sit and wait for a table. There is an outside patio. I am unsure of the seating situation out there. read more

This is a review from our February 11, 2020. We were in town visiting the University of Idaho and we saw this spot. The manager was so gracious and fit us in at the last minute. We are from a foodie town in California and are pretty jaded, and I can say that this spot is as good or better than some of the best spots in LA. The wine selection was also on point. My kid has the restaurants play on hot chicken that had all of the flavor without the pain. I hit the jackpot, though. The pork chop was out of this world. That is saying something since we lean more toward vegetable forward dishes. I still think about that pork chop. It seems a bummer to marginalize the outstanding vegetable appetizer, olives and superb dessert, but the pork chop was the star. If you love good food and have one day, I recommend you visit Moscow Idaho. One of the best menus I've seen in a very long time. Impressive options without being pretentious. Hard to believe this is in Moscow! The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to genuinely enjoy their job. The wine list is great and I seriously enjoyed their seasonal cocktail, Sweater Weather. My fiancé had an extremely hard time selecting what he wanted for dinner because he wanted everything on the menu! The staff was accommodating for food allergies and custom requests. Everything came out hot and well seasoned. Their timing was spot on and the flavor was on point. Cannot say enough amazing things about this menu. My fiancé had the pork chop and said it was cooked perfectly. I had the lemon cream pasta and my dad was obsessed with the steak bites! Caesar salad was also tasty. Worth coming! I'm cool with that. They open at 4. I left work at 345. We were at lodgepole at 415. No one outside. 2 tables inside. I asked for a table for 2. I get. Do you have a reservation. No your phone message clearly says no phone reservation. Your web site Cleary says Monday no reservations walk in only. But I was told well yes but we have old reservations and well this is ending on 23. But there was no one there. No one. But with other stories I hear about people kid. Stumbled upon this little gem in downtown Moscow on a business trip and boy was it a treat. Went to dinner on a Monday evening and the restaurant was practically empty. But the ambience was fantastic - a lightly dimmed, cozy atmosphere with an open kitchen concept that makes the entire restaurant feel like one big room. After starting out with some delicious Bread Baguettes, I chose the Pan Roasted Chicken as my main and I would do it a million times over. The chicken had a crunchy outer skin which locked the juices in the inside. Accompanied with mashed potatoes & asparagus, you cannot go wrong with this meal if you like chicken - trust. *p.s. I wouldn't say the food here was necessarily bad, just extremely mediocre. My family and I tried a good portion of the entries, and not one stuck out to me. When it comes to underwhelming food, I am not usually one to dwell, but paired with this places high price point it's hard to look past. A near 30 dollar plate of pasta shouldn't be so bland that I can't even get through a quarter of it. You can find much better food anywhere else in Moscow for half the cost. I feel like their menu has a LOT of potential. The problem is their bases are great, but the seasoning or sauces just aren't anything to write home about. It's unfortunate, but I do hope to see a turn around. The service was great, I appreciated the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. I am mixed on the ambience, as it has both its pros and cons. Beautiful building and decor, but a little to cold and sterile for my taste. But this is more my personal preference, and not something I would place much weight on. This is a tough one to review. The food is very good. The taste, texture and presentation each is well above average. The prices are a bit higher than they should be for the level of quality and creativity that is being delivered, but not so high as to be outrageous. I enjoyed my meal here and you probably will as well. So why only 3 stars? We arrived in the late afternoon and entered the restaurant. The room was empty. In spite of this they required us to sit outside on the patio. It's a nice patio, and they have some very attractive patio cover structures, so we sat on the patio. Unfortunately the covers do not create shade for the late afternoon sun and we proceeded to get completely cooked in the sun. This could easily have been remedied with some shade cloth or hedges in the planters that surround the patio, but no attempts have been made to accomplish this. A small investment in the patio would yield tremendous results in terms of the quality of the overall experience. The lesson: Ambience and comfort are a huge part of the dining experience. Think twice before committing to their patio. The food was very tasty, but in the end we regretted our decision. read more

Each table has a small vase of real flowers--a simple but nice touch that's hard to find a restaurants these days! We made a reservation for 6PM on a weekday. It wasn't too busy and there were still a few tables open. I don't think I saw anyone needing to wait long to be seated. Our appetizer came a little late but other than that, the service was great. The staff are friendly and personable and they're dressed a little casually but still clean and classy. We ordered the crostini for an appetizer. It came with cream cheese and pepper jelly. The jelly was very interesting! Sweet yet spicy. I would've preferred a little more kick but I love spicy food and my boyfriend thinks my tastebuds are fried because of it. It was still yummy and definitely unique! The cream cheese is a great pair for the jelly too. My boyfriend and I both ordered the chicken entree. It was also delicious. The skin was amazing! I noticed that there weren't any salt and pepper shakers on the tables but you really don't need them. Everything is flavored wonderfully. I'm usually pretty picky about spices and typically find "American" food to be bland but the chicken was sooo good! We were too full for dessert but they do have a few dessert options. The menu doesn't have as large of a selection as other restaurants but I believe Lodgepole focuses on quality over quantity. Every dish is unique and they use fresh, local ingredients when possible. I was starving as I passed through Moscow for business. I looked on Yelp and saw this option. On a Monday night at 5:15, it wasn't busy and they offered me a table at walk-in. The menu is smaller, but we'll done. Having perused the Yelp reviews, I was torn between the rigatoni, the chicken and the pork chops. I chose the rigatoni and I was so happy. The tomato cream sauce infused with the chunks of braised beef was a umami delight. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked and really soaked up the sauce. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive and I was happy from start to finish. I'll literally make time to get dinner here again the next time I'm in the area for business. It took about 5 minutes for anyone to greet me, I sat at the bar near the hostess stand. I wish the bartender would have let me know his name, but oh well. I ordered the clam linguine in a cream sauce. The dish was all right, but seemed a little bland. The pasta was well cooked, though. I would go back for dinner in hopes for a more flavorful plate. After hearing so many good things about Lodgepole my husband and I had to go try it for ourselves! We were pleasantly surprised! The service was great, and quick. We sat outside on the patio, which was a little warm with the sun going down under where the umbrella covered, but still very nice. I ordered the pan seared chicken which I absolutely loved, (especially the mashed potatoes,) and my husband ordered the ribeye which he described as "slightly under seasoned and a poor cut of meat for the price." We also got the mint chip and cookie dough ice cream cake to share for dessert and it was by far our favorite part of the meal. The seafood special was pan seared scallops with butternut squash on a bed of kale with roasted pépites and it was one of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. They were packed with flavor that melted in mouth after each bite! The chowder was good and both drinks were great since they weren't too sweet like most places. Service for the most part was good but when finished server asked if we wanted our change. This threw us as it is stated that tips are included in the price of the food. This place is not bad. In fact it's almost excellent. In a small town where everything is overpriced because your held hostage by the fact that your enrolled in school at the U of I it may very well be the closest damn thing to a 5 star restaurant outside of Seattle. First, the food is really good! It's all hand selected and prepared by the chef and sous chefs on a daily basis so you know your getting fresh, quality, greens and proteins to your table. I will say though, disapprovingly, that bread service while waiting for your meal is at a cost. This was a bit shocking, if you were a French national you might have a heart attack at being asked to pay for bread service at a "5 star" eatery. Lol. Second, the atmosphere is pretty good. They lost a star here because the music is sometimes some sort of weird Russian techno straight out of a dance club in a spy flick set in St Petersburg; and it can be overwhelmingly loud. I think it plays into the chef, who is also the co-owner with his wife, being a bit neurotic with the staff. Plain language, he yells at all the staff a lot. Third, bathrooms are spotless, walkways are a bit crowded around the restaurant because it's a popular place, but the outdoor option is priceless! So I strongly suggest that if you go, get outdoor seating, understand that your a hostage in a small town in the middle of nowhere and as a result this might be your only option at real gourmet food!
