    Chargrilled oysters
    Dana P.

My family visited this restaurant on our last night on our trip to SC. We have been to SC multiple times before, but never have we experienced a Cajun restaurant like this outside of Louisiana. This place felt straight out of New Orleans. My husband and I have spent a few trips there, so we can judge the food in comparison to some of the top dishes in that city. My husband ordered the charbroiled oysters, while good, they didn't match up to the ones we have had in NOLA. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, and they were great. Our kids loved them, including the remoulade. I ordered the shrimp etoufee with dirty rice. It was delicious and spicy in all the right ways. I would recommend checking out this place!

Went for my birthday dinner and they did not disappoint!! Excellent fast service as always! We started with the Cajun angels / - bacon wrapped scallops over street corn, Cajun Alfredo pasta with blackened shrimp, my son did a cheeseburger with mixed veggies w no spice (they were so good), and my husband got the Cajun Alfredo pasta with shrimp and sausage. The food is always consistent, the quality is amazing, service is great and the food comes out super fast! They also have the absolute best beignets and have them flown in from NOLA! Our favorites are the caramel pecan! They're life changing!

Went to Lola for dinner last weekend and it did not disappoint. We got the mussels and jambalaya, which are always go to picks for us. Food is consistently great, service was on point, and it's just one of those spots you can rely on for a solid meal every time. Would definitely recommend.

My date and I came to LoLa for the first time. The Cajun Shrimp PoBoy and Jambalaya were authentic and tasty! Service was top notch. They have a big selection of adult beverages. Very open inside seating, and can be somewhat loud. Highly recommend!

Everything was tasty. We got here right at 7 and it was hopping. Service was a little slow but allowed us to enjoy our meal and company together so it wasn't minded at all. The vibe is definitely NOLA through and through. Down to the swamp water arnie palmer with OJ and beingnets! All the food was delish! Very much enjoyed the tender gator.

A delicious background of LoLA's turtle soup.

LoLA in Mount Pleasant, SC is consistently good. The staff greets you with a smile. The atmosphere is always pretty chill. There a numerous gluten free options and the staff always is knowledgeable about celiac and gluten in intolerance. Furthermore, the employees always treat us well and are kind; and completely care about cross-contamination. I always feel comfortable eating at the North Charleston, SC location amd the Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. location. The only downside is Mt. Pleasant's location lack of a dedicated fryer; however, the North Charleston location has a dedicated fryer. :)

The food and service were excellent. I got the duck fries to start which had seasoned fries topped with duck confit, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and fried jalapeños. Then for my entree I went with the shrimp and grits it was very plentiful of shrimp and the mushroom sauce on it was delicious. It also came with a piece of praline pecan cornbread I could eat a whole pan of it. Not pictured but the boudin balls, crawfish étouffée, and muffuletta were all delicious options as well.

The jambalaya over grits was too good and full of delicious local shrimp. Others in my party had the crawfish etoufee and shrimp po boy. Everyone enjoyed their meal and most of us had leftovers to take home since the portions are huge. Same friendly service as the North Charleston location.

Cajun corn. Not fresh, but tasty.

Note to self. Make reservations for the Fourth of July. I thought everyone would be at the beach so thought a late lunch would be easy peasy. I had a craving ( really an addiction) for fried oysters and I knew this was a new place in Mount Pleasant and since I am new as well, gave it a shot. Every single employee we came in contact with was cheerful and so accommodating. They were booked solid and the bar was also full with people standing. We decided to wait for a bit. We watched them turn away loads of folks. No openings until 7:30 and the closed at 8 pm that day. Long story short, they gave us a table if we promised to be out in an hour. Done! I asked for the fried oysters to be lightly fried because I had seen pics of them here and I was afraid they would be hard. My husband asked for the same. They did not comply with that but I will say that the oysters were delicious and so juicy with great Cajun flavors. I could just have wine and a plate of those bad boys and call it a day. They do go a bit overboard on the same seasoning in EVERY dish. The fries, the corn and the shrimp all have the same spices. The fried shrimp were unusually greasy but the oysters were not. I did see some fish tacos going by as we ate and I'd definitely give them a shot! Server was great! This is a small place with some outdoor seating. Make a reservation if you want to be seated inside. Oh, a lady next to me asked about the praline cornbread. If you like a piece of cake with your dinner, go for it. I do not. Born and bred in the South and this would be served as dessert. It was tasty, just not cornbread.

Sorry I didn't take a picture when it first came out because I had to eat this.

Thank you! Here's an updated version of your review reflecting the Cajun style of the seafood: I had a fantastic meal at Lola in Mount Pleasant. I started with the BBQ shrimp appetizer, which was rich, savory, and full of flavor--an excellent way to kick things off. But the real star of the night was the Seafood Gumbo. Without exaggeration, it was the *best gumbo I've ever eaten. The broth was deep, bold, and authentically Cajun. and the gumbo was packed with generous portions of seafood, including whole pieces of crawfish, a rare and welcome touch. Lola nails the Cajun flavor profile without holding back. If you're craving real Louisiana-style cooking in the Lowcountry, this is the spot. I'll be back just for that gumbo.

Risotto cake with shrimp and red beans and rice and their special cornbread. Delicious!

Lola is one of our favorite places to dine when in the Charleston area. Cajun angel appetizer is 10 out of 10. I always order the Risotto Cake with shrimp appetizer as my meal. Excellent every time!

Our bartender/server was great. He was friendly and professional, yet laid back. We shared two appetizers and loved them both. The Pimento Cheese & crackers had quite a zip to it. They also didn't have their HH menu updated online so there were things we wanted but couldn't get because it was a different menu. We ended up getting a couple dozen oysters, smoked fish dip and crispy tuna rice. Oysters were fresh and nicely chilled, tuna rice was well seasoned and the fish dip was ok, didn't have any smoky flavor or element to it and lacked in flavor. We ended up moving back down with our friends who had dogs so they ordered from the regular menu. The server was very accommodating and friendly. My friend got the burnt ends Mac n cheese and that was delicious! The place itself was huge and I could see it being a great spot for private events. Overall we had a good time.

Instead of cake, our group brought blueberry pies and vanilla ice cream, and the staff graciously took everything to the kitchen, sliced and plated the pie, added generous scoops of ice cream, and even placed birthday candles on each slice. Such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration extra special. The atmosphere along the water made it even better. I was a little worried when the website said call ahead seating was on hold thinking they would be slammed, but forged onward!' It was Sunday afternoon. I have read about nightmare parking but did not experience that at all. Zoomed right in. Yes, it was eleven bucks. I don't mind paying and refuse to get myself worked up over it. Ask for an outside table and no sooner did we sit down, the dolphins showed up!!! I consider myself an expert on dolphin spotting and had to show the table of 5 college age young ladies where they were located. They loved them as well. Who knew they would be so active in the middle of a busy waterway? As a former boat owner, I love watching those huge honkin' boats parallel park in between the baby ones. I do not have that skill , but it's entertaining to watch. Tyler was our server and was nice and attentive. Drinks were cold and quite good. I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was Cambria. Not crazy expensive either! Had shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp. So many steamed ones that I had a full meal the next day. I look forward to trying many more dishes. What I enjoyed the most was being part of a fun atmosphere in a fun place. Not a sad person in the place. That's always my attitude near any body of water. I'll start with the positives. Our server was fantastic. She was personable, attentive, and did a great job throughout our meal. As for the food, it was just okay. I ordered the fish tacos, and unfortunately the mahi was overcooked and very dry. They also came absolutely covered in sour cream. I was expecting a light drizzle, but there was so much that I only managed a few bites before I couldn't finish them. My friend ordered the Cuban and absolutely loved it. He cleaned his plate, so it seems the food can be a bit hit or miss. The biggest downside, though, had nothing to do with the food. There was some type of political or civic meeting taking place in the main dining room. I'm not exactly sure if the speaker was running for mayor or another office, but it wasn't in a private room. It was out in the open where everyone dining had to listen. I don't think it's appropriate to hold an event like that in the middle of a restaurant during regular service regardless of your political affiliation. Some of the things being discussed made me genuinely uncomfortable, and even my male friend commented on it. If the restaurant wants to host political events, I think they should either use a private space or close the restaurant to the general public during the event. The views and service were great, but the atmosphere that day was overshadowed by the speaker, and unfortunately that's what I'll remember most about my visit.
