Whole Crispy Fried Flounder, collard greens
    Anissa A.

Good choice for a casual seafood meal with a pretty extensive menu. Lots of options including all the typical fried offerings, but a whole fried flounder is always the right answer for me, and this was well prepared, seasoned and fried. For dinner we shared that with a side of collard greens, and the bucket of shrimp, two kinds of crab claws and mussels which was a huge amount of seafood for $32. They also had an extensive bar including several local craft beers. A quick lunch later in the week was a dozen raw oysters (medium sized and tasty), and a perfectly portioned lunch fried flounder fillet on cheesy grits and Tasso ham gravy. Side of collards, of course. Wish I lived nearby to take more advantage of the well priced lunch offerings between 11 - 2 weekdays.

This is the place to go if you want fried seafood. Everything was just ok. Calamari and buffalo shrimp were good, but the shrimp on the Caesar salad were heavily over-seasoned. Service was decent, live music outside some nights

The Crab Shacks are a small chain of seafood restaurants that opened in Folly Beach, South Carolina in November 1999. They were founded by business partners Ryan Condon, Dan Doyle and Ron Hill. When an old gas station location became available in Folly Beach, Condon and Doyle called Hill and asked him if he would be interested in running and owning a restaurant on Folly Beach. It was Hill's lifelong dream to own and run his own restaurant, so he happily accepted. The partners wanted to create a laid-back, relaxed, coastal atmosphere that unified overflowing buckets of fresh seafood, great value, and smiling faces. After they received much success at the original Folly Beach location, additional locations opened in Coosaw Creek in 2004 and West Ashley in 2007. My family and I visited the original Folly Beach Crab Shack this past summer while we were visiting family in the area. After spending the morning at the beach, we were hungry for a delicious seafood lunch. Our cousins highly recommended the crab shack. My wife and I wanted some frozen drinks really bad. I had the "Lime Shackaiquiri" (Cruz aged light rum) while my wife had the "Peach Shackarita" (Sauza gold tequila). Both of them really hit the spot. For food, I had the "Double D BBQ Shrimp and Crab Sandwich" (BBQ deviled crab and fried creek shrimp, topped with scallions, bacon, fried onion strings and coleslaw), my wife had the "Mahi Wrap", and we also ordered the "1/2 Pound Peel & Eat Shrimp" for the table to share. Everything was delicious! It was just what we were looking for! We would definitely stop at the Crab Shack again if we found ourselves back in Folly Beach!

We were looking for some low country boil after spending the afternoon at Folly Beach, and The Crab Shack did not disappoint! We were seated right away at an indoor table. The interior had fun nautical decor and a casual ambiance. The restaurant also had a front patio, but I was happy to sit inside to avoid the flies. My boyfriend and I shared the Hot Crab & Artichoke Dip as a starter. This dish exceeded my expectations, and the flavors went together really well. The portion size was perfect too, because we weren't too full to enjoy our other seafood. We decided to share The Charleston Steamed Seafood Bucket, so we could try a bit of everything. They were out of oysters but were able to substitute with mussels, which was great. The best part of the boil was easily the snow crab! Eating it was a lot of work, but totally worth it. The shrimp and mussels were also tasty, but maybe slightly overcooked. Sharing the bucket was definitely enough food for two! Service was friendly and pretty quick. Overall, worth the visit!

Went back to give them another try ... I'm not even going to get into how bad the food was this time. I'm just going to let the pictures do the talking. Photograph #1 is a picture of our visitor Photograph #2is a smear, the waitress simply smashed the coccaroach with a Togo box and let the remains on the wall. Zero, zip, nothing said about it by the staff. They just went on as if it's an hourly thing. Needless to say we'll never go back.

Service was great. Friendly staff. We sat at their covered patio. Nice breeze looking at the streets. Food was amazing. Scallops were tender. Fish and shrimp were fresh and tasty. The mussels were one of the best we ever had. Strong mixed drinks. Highly recommend.

I have always wanted to go to a Crab Shack, and I am glad I finally had an opportunity to try one! Welcoming atmosphere and great service! Our server was great and the food came out fast and fresh. If you are ever in Folly Beach, SC, please give them a try.

Food was alright. Crab legs were super small and dry. Shrimp good and oysters small. Service was exceptional but the cockroaches crawling out of the outlets and falling onto a guest was too much for me. Server smashed the roach and smeared it across the wall and left it there. A guest later told us that one ran across his foot :/

The food was outstanding! We ate at the establishment in Folly Beach S.C. I started with a bowl of she crab soup. Served nice and hot with a creamy broth it was so tasty! We had a large party which ordered a variety of dishes. My spouse had the pulled pork sandwich and fries, earlier in the week he had the scallops. The grilled seafood platter was probably the most popular! No complaints from anyone. The service was outstanding, knowledgeable and polite. The ambiance was pretty much laid back with a ocean motif. Very clean and organized. If you visit Folly I would highly recommend a stop at the crab shack,

We ate outside and had to fend off the birds. We got hush puppies to start- they were nice and hot (temp). Everything came out pretty quickly. My friend got she crab soup and a salad with shrimp. The shrimp was grilled and delicious! Great flavor. I got the shrimp, scallop & fish basket with fries. It seemed lightly breaded and was also good. I don't usually like fried scallops but they were nice and moist. The fish was my least favorite. Lots of food for a not huge price. Good service - I think there may have only been one server but she was attentive. Good spot.

The girlfriend and I had a nice motorcycle ride to Folly Beach and we decided on seafood for dinner. Picked The Crab Shack at random and glad we did! Staff was friendly and attentive! I felt the prices were quite reasonable for the beach, and I was delighted to see steamed and grilled options as well as fried items. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating options too! We started with the calamari which was very on point, not rubbery at all! I had the Charleston Steamed Seafood bucket and it was amazing! The girlfriend's Frogmore Stew was outstanding as well. She had two drinks and liked them both (and so did my wallet at only $7.99 each). Overall a great pick and would love to visit again.

Yikes. I think we ordered the wrong thing!!…read more My husband and I came here for lunch after kayaking next door. We ordered the fish & chips plate to share. We are from the Northeast where ordering a seafood plate of any kind is plenty enough to share with one (or more) people, but NOT this one! The portion size was shockingly small in relation to the price (or it's just not what we're used to) and was not fit for sharing. The fish was flounder, which we've never had before and wanted to try it as we are used to having cod as the fish in "fish & chips." It looked flat and dry, and tasted as such even though it seemed to be fried nicely. After several bites, we decided we didn't like it but I cant figure out if that's because we actually don't like flounder or if maybe we got a bad piece of fish since it was really sad looking?? Anyways, I'm giving two stars as I liked the fries and hushpuppies. Everything seemed to be fried well. The people sitting at the bar next to us got completely different meals and they looked much better than ours. I'd be willing to come back and give this place another try as it was very crowded when we came so I understand any place can be busy and have an off-day!

Nothing bad, but nothing that stood out either. For example, when my mother-in-law asked if they had Riesling, she responded, "No, our wine is very limited, which makes my job easier." It came off a little odd, but not a huge deal. The food and drinks were very good overall. One issue we had was with the tuna nachos. The menu says "blackened ahi tuna," so we expected it to be seared/rare, which is pretty standard. However, it came out fully cooked. When we mentioned it, the server said it's always prepared that way and not sushi-grade, so they don't serve it rare. That's totally fine--but the menu should definitely be clearer, because it was not what we expected. To her credit, she did offer to comp it if we didn't eat it, but we still ate it--it just wasn't what we had in mind. We also ordered lobster tails--five of us got the same entrée but with different sides. She seemed a bit scattered handling that, but everything did come out correctly, and again, the food itself was very good. The biggest issue came at the end. We asked about a military discount after the bill came out, so the check was adjusted. My uncle had already written in a tip on the original total. After the adjustment, the tip was changed, but it still came out to around 15%, which we felt was fair based on the service. After we left, our server actually chased us down the block asking what she did wrong and why we changed the tip. That was very uncomfortable and honestly unprofessional. It came across as if she thought she wasn't tipped at all, which wasn't the case. Because of that experience, we're adjusting our rating from what would have been 4 stars down to 3. Good food, nice atmosphere--but that final interaction left a bad impression.

The quality and freshness is top notch. And they usually have some hard to find fresh catch. What makes CudaCo stand out from other markets is that you can pick your desired catch from the display case and then have them cook it to your liking. Again...it was good...not great. I cook way better salmon at home on a cedar plank over real charcoal, so maybe I'm being unfair here? I dunno. The salad itself was heavy on arugula, which I'm not a huge fan of. Which is odd, because I love the flavor of pepper! Anyway, the menu made it sound like it was more fennel-oriented, so... Ended up capping off the meal with the blackberry key lime pie. It was quite tasty. Not the best key lime pie I've ever had, but good. As to the atmosphere, it's nice. My girlfriend has actually convinced me several times that we shouldn't come here because we weren't dressed well enough. Well, let me just say: I saw several guys here wearing jeans, fishing shirts, and ball caps and they fit right in. So: not stuffy at all! Bottom line, it's a good, not great place to grab a meal.
