Our server heard us refuse the toast, which was supposed to come with our order, and she said, "If you can't eat gluten, we have an option for you!" I was going to another breakfast place in the area on New Year's Day and when I got there to my surprise it was closed.....10:30 am and I'm really really dying of hunger since I'm a Breakfast person all the way; in desperation I got on Yelp asking for breakfast places around that were open and it took to this wonderful diner less than 10 minutes away from where I was and OMG what a pleasant and wonderful surprise! The decor is truly fitting of an 1950s diner, the waitress was super helpful, and the food was to die for; I didn't know what to order I was so hungry and ended up ordering the corned beef hash with hash browns and 2 eggs but they gave me 3 instead! The food was delicious and the portion huge I took half home; I will for sure go back again and I don't live close by I'm a o it 40 minutes away but It is soooo worth it! read more

We ate lunch at Lola's Diner for the first time today. If you like diners, you will love this place. The parking lot was pretty full, but we managed to find a spot in back. The restaurant was busy, and seemed to have a lot of regulars, because they greeted each other as they came in and left. The restaurant is bright and clean, and we loved the glass cases that displayed various antique items. The staff was relaxed and friendly. The menu was large, and seemed to offer every type of breakfast and lunch item from omelets and crepes to gyros, sandwiches, and paninis--also salads. We ordered a gyros, a breaded pork sandwich, and a veggie panini. There was a choice of soup, fries, or chips with our orders, and some items came with a pleasant tasting creamy coleslaw with a pickle. The gyros was a "make-it-yourself" item. We received the sliced meat, pita, veggies, and a bowl of sauce which we assembled by ourselves at the table. The gyro was milder tasting than it's recipient was used to, but still good. The veggie panini consisted of lots of nicely grilled veggies, mostly green peppers, onions, and some asparagus, with some cheese, on large-sized lightly toasted buttered white bread (We took half home). The veggies were cooked, but still had a a nice bite to them. The crinkle fries were unseasoned, but there was a full complement of seasonings on every table. The breaded pork was also satisfactory. We enjoyed all of our orders, and would go back again for that type of comfort food. read more

We attempted to eat breakfast here this morning. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside as there were plenty of open tables. She said we could seat ourselves wherever we like. After 10 minutes, no one came to take our order. I went back inside snd asked if someone could serve us and she said yes, however after 5 more minutes of waiting, no one came outside. First time here and thanks to Yelp! we found it today - this Park Ridge hidden gem! Throwback decor to the 1950s, and really good tasting food for a VERY reasonable price! We enjoyed the surprisingly size bowl of Stuffed Green Pepper Soup, Patty Melt, Olive and Cheddar Burger, fries, cole slaw, and a soda . . . $19.25 for two people! Service: not fast, not friendly, not accurate. Ordered a deluxe sandwich with a side salad requested for the waitress to omit fries or soup or anything else. Took 20 mins for sandwich to come out with a pickle and small side of coleslaw, no salad. No apology when I told the waitress to "cancel" the salad since my food already arrived. Ordered a tea, never offered a refill on hot water. Waitress was no nonsense which is perfectly acceptable when you get the order right. Food was ok but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't upset at the fact that I paid for a deluxe and received a basic sandwich. Also, there was a broken tooth pic in my sandwich. Which is a hazard. Just very disappointed. Came in expecting a 4 star experience and that isn't even close to what occurred. read more

Solid diner. With clean and recently refreshed decor, this is not a dingy roadside "greasy spoon" by any means. Service is up and down, fast and slow, mostly fine but sometimes inattentive. The food comes out quickly, but is always fresh and hot, so clearly made to order. One thing that really bothers me is that the coffee server comes around every few minutes (seriously, back off--there is only a half-inch of space at the top of the cups), but our water glasses go unattended through the entire meal. During one recent visit, my cup was empty for almost the entire time, and I didn't even get a refill after asking for it. I asked again, saying "we" both times to indicate the whole table, but only one glass was delivered. It's summer, it's hot, and people are thirsty. Even in any weather this is such a basic element of restaurant service. And both times I had to ask the coffee girl instead of our waitress, who rushed past the table several times but never stopped to check in after the food was dropped off. So anyway, thank goodness that the food is delicious. The vegetarian omelet is chock-full of vegetables. The Denver omelet is chock-full of vegetables and ham--real ham too. The italian skillet is really good, but the sausage is NOT italian; this made me very sad. The pancakes are fluffy and delightful, plain, wholegrain, and chocolate chip. I love a place that offers pancakes as a starch side to savory dishes. Portions are generous--big omelettes and the stack of pancakes numbers five. I always have enough leftovers for a second meal. Lola's is really a 3.5 (get the water straight and I would go to 4) but I have to round up because the food is reliable and this has become our go-to breakfast spot after living nearby for only a couple of months. read more

My friend ordered a veg. omelette (good) and coffee (ok). My order got messed up and they immediately took care of it and made me another one. I have come to love this little gem of a place in a big way!! The food is awesome with lots of variety, the place is extremely CLEAN!! and there is even an old fashion counter for you to sit at! We were very impressed with Lola's from the start. Their prices are fantastic and the place is clean and very kitchy. We happened upon Lola's after getting caught in a snowstorm after shopping for carpet in the area. I had the blt and chicken dumpling soup. This was definitely an above average blt. There was plenty of bacon without it being overwhelming and the lettuce and tomato were both perfect. My wife ordered the turkey sandwich which she loved, and one of my kids ordered a kid's breakfast meal (which was huge) while the other got potato pancakes, which was a massive order. Like I mentioned earlier, prices are great. The night before we were at Walker Bros in Highland Park where I spent double what I did at Lola's. The wife and I came back for dinner this time and the restaurant was clean & tidy as usual. Service was great and on point. I saw prime rib was a special and ordered that knowing it would be a decent meal and the wife had half a chick meal. All came w soup or salad and choice of starch. Soup was corn chowder w chick broth base and was delish not like the wallpaper glue at Omega on Golf Rd while the wife had a salad which was cold, crisp and asst cucumber & tomatoes not just a head of lettuce that some do. The beef was similar to pot roast in flavor and texture which was good, I have teeth. the wife's dinner was appetizing as well. Yum, yum, YUM!! First time back in years. We used to live down the street from here and loved it then. Love it still now. Great retro feel. The bright blue turquoise building, seats and booths scream the '50's. Nifty diner decor. Terrific food. I loved that my item was called a Nest! That was just a MUST to order for the name alone. Hash browns wrapped around eggs and cheese. Onions for those that like them. Then you get to pick bacon, ham or sausage. To put INTO it. It is not on the side like the menu led me to believe. lol I woulda put ham in if I'd known. My daughter and sister got it that way. So yummy. Bacon did well in it though. My nephew got a sandwich and said it was fantastic. His fries were delicious and hot and meaty. (Thick crinkle cut with potato heft for those that don't understand meaty potatoes. ) My ain't got the crepès and said they were delicious with wonderful crispy edges. Real chocolate milk. Lola's Diner is a fun brunch spot. I love the teal chairs, the checkered floors and the retro table top. It's a great place to go if you want a casual dining experience. Portion sizes here are very generous. For instance, if you were to order the omelette, you'd definitely get a big one (think something like 3-4 eggs used) and they are generous with the ingredients. The meal also comes with potatoes and pancakes (other sides available if you request them). The serving ladies are very prompt with the coffee.The minute you sit down, you'd get a pour and they are constantly checking back to make sure your cup is full. Super cute restaurant. Co-workers like to come here often and sometimes i order over the phone and get carry out. They have nice weekly lunch specials that come with soup, entree, side and soft drink for $6.65. I love me some BLT's! The waitresses are sweet and its usually packed when i come to pick up my order so it must be a neighborhood favorite for sure. I LOVED the decor here. It was a blast from the past. Really felt like I was in the 1950s. I came here for breakfast/brunch and the service was quick, affordable and friendly. I swear, they must have refilled my bottomless coffee like 5-6 times even though it never got below half a cup. The hubby and I split "the Nest" which as they describe on the menu is "A layer of shredded hash browns wrapped around scrambled eggs with cheese and onions. Your choice of bacon, ham or sausage". We ended up splitting this between the two of us and it was more than enough. We still had leftovers by the end of our meal! We also ordered a side of pancakes and fruit. I was impressed by the fruit side dish (blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, honey dew, pineapples, the whole shebang). Had breakfast for the first time since Chickies closed at this restaurant. It was a very pleasant experience. I had the Skirt Steak Skillet, which was delicious. Two of my friends had the Swedish Pancakes and they raved about them. Overall the food was really good, and the service excellent. I did not give this place five stars because I have been there only once. If they demonstrate consistently that their service is good I will up the rating. If you can't find something you like, you don't like breakfast. Of particular note was an apple pancake they had on special once that is worth fighting for. Lola's 50s themed diner has the typical extensive breakfast and lunch menu you'd expect from a diner, which I love but always makes it hard to decide on what to order!
