We arrived At Londel's around 8:00 on a Saturday evening. Parking was extremely difficult as is just about any place in the city. Londel's has several tables to enjoy a meal, a small- medium size area for dancing and a bar (area). I ordered the whiting fingers - delicious! And sipped on several drinks which didn't taste watered down. We were there specifically for Steppin' so that's what we did. We enjoyed the music and danced. NEVER AGAIN! I went to Londel's on a friday night . It was empty besides one table with 4 people . I would've left then but i was with a out of town friend who was looking forward to dinner in harlem with live music . WRONG NO LIVE MUSIC AS ADVERTISED. So now we sitting there in this empty restaurant for about 15 mins before the waitress/bartender came over to tell me repeatedly this was her 2nd day on the job. I ordered a ginger ale what i got was sugar water....the coke was syrup n water...then mr Londel came over himself or should i say stumbled over. Clearly drunk stuttering and embarrassing himself had the nerve to inquire why i wasn't pleased with my soft drink. Not engaging this man I felt it best just to leave.... soooooo disappointing. One of my friend's mother celebrated her 90th birthday here with more than 50 of her friends and family. Their cousin was the DJ, he played everything from old school music, to jazz, then rap! Yes....the 90 year old danced to explicit lyric rap.....so awesome! The food was delicious....fried chicken, fish, ribs, collard greens, peas and rice, a healthy tossed salad with choices of dressings. The food was seasoned well, not at all salty....perfect portions! I didn't have cocktails, but those that did said they were very good. There was a champagne toast, a beautiful 3 layered birthday cake to top the night off! I was just there for a private event following the memorial of someone very special. The ambience is warm and inviting; the staff is friendly and Londel was very kind and courteous. The food was good; I will not say it was great but it was a nice variety and catered to the specific crowd. Ordered the salmon with Mac & cheese and rice, cousin had ribs greens and mac & cheese, friend had fried chicken with baked potato and Mac & cheese. Everyone enjoyed their food. Afterward we ordered dessert (red velvet cake & bread pudding). I was stuffed from my entree but I dug through the cake. So good. Service was great and I loved my drink (limon drop). They've got a decent selection of wines, beers and mixed drinks. I recently went on a Saturday evening with Rusty and his dad. There was no wait, and I was enchanted by the brick walls and rustic, old time charm of this place. A lighted tree outside landmarks the spot. I ordered the chicken with dijon sauce, with sides of spinach and macaroni with cheese. The chicken was good, moist, thick...but the sides were very greasy. The macaroni and cheese wasn't exactly cheesy...the spinach was also almost tasteless. Rusty got the fried shrimp. They were pretty big. Russell Senior got the shrimp scampi. They were also really big looking. Pretty flavorful. We got the red velvet cake for dessert and split it. It left an extremely chalky aftertaste in my mouth. My water glass never got more than half empty...Service was kind of slow, so again, you're going to want a cocktail or something to mull things over. Live jazz music is a plus. It pains me to give harsh criticism to one of my favorite spots i use to frequent in past years. It's been a while since I have dined here. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of flavor in everything ordered. The only thing with flavor was the complimentary cornbread muffins. Make sure you ask for extras bread because they are very small. Londel's needs to reengineer their recipes. Go back to the basics which allowed them to set themselves apart from their competition. The staff was polite and friendly but the cook missed the mark. The salmon was not pan seared and lacked flavor plus, it didn't taste like salmon. I hope this restaurant can get it together and the owner can put his hands back on the steering wheel again. $100 Wasted!!!! Smh read more

Yesterday we went to this restaurant for my aunts birthday celebration... This was by far the worst experience that I have ever had in a restaurant... The customer service was absolutely horrible, the owner did not accommodate any of the issue that happen. We were served raw chicken and cold food from their buffet.. My cousin who was vegan request options they gave her burnt Mac and cheese which was not edible. We were told one thing on the phone and none of those things were correct when we arrived .... We had a party of 20 people with all the mistakes the owner only took off $10 of a bill of $570. I do not recommend anyone going to this place ever. read more

We went to Londel's with great expectations for a group lunch, with a prearranged (two choices for entree) menu. Service was insanely slow (the waitress didn't even take our order for a good 20 minutes; the food took nearly an hour to arrive, and one member of the party (my wife) got her food 20 minutes after the rest of us), and they didn't have the dessert we'd prearranged. I ordered Salmon w/ mash potatoes, when clearly I should have went with the Fried Chicken Wings, Mac n Cheese and candied Yams. This place reminds me of that show about a bar called "Cheers" where everyone is genuinely welcomed, there's lots of good times and great food. This was my first time visiting and it won't be my last. The staff are incredibly helpful (they can read your mind and figure out what you want to order lol). The ambiance is classy yet comfortable. Lastly, the food is so on point! My family is from the south so my big test on how good the soul food is at a restaurant like this is the collard greens and the amount of hot sauce that is requires - the less needed the better it is. We had our repass here for my mom on 2-8-22 and Mr Londel and his staff were accommodating and friendly everyone enjoyed the food and the venue was nicely done; we thought it was perfect to host such an event nearby our funeral home they have an excellent full bar he even let me bring our giant cake the day before which was so convenient to not go back and forth and straight to our event; we ended up ending the service early and luckily he was kind enough to let everyone sit and be comfortable in the meanwhile; I loved how Mr. Londel let us do personal reflections at the event with his microphone and the bartenders and servers were so helpful and provided us with all we needed for this to be as great as possible! It was a wonderful way to honor my amazing mom and was happy everyone enjoyed their food and made this event a positive one; we will always be back! Sunday Brunch? Went here for (what they call) Sunday brunch. This review only addresses the "All you can eat (stomach) buffet menu". This was the worst Sunday brunch buffet I have ever had (and I have even had brunch in a strip joint before). Potato salad, coleslaw, white rice, chili, red hots, rib tips, over cooked string beans and fried apples. Not only were the options limited and looked unappetizing but they did not even taste good. I felt like I was eating picnic leftovers. It should have been served in a old empty Country Crock container (some of you will understand). Dessert was one under cooked pound cake. My family and I went there after my grandfathers funeral and we were treated very poorly. The waitresses gave us a LOT of attitude. After being seated it took us a long time for us to get our food. When i was standing in the line and was getting my food, i had asked for a second scoop of mac and cheese because i didn't want nothing else on my plate to which the waitress replied "uhm.. NO." I was taken by surprise because in what kind of professional setting does someone do that? After that i just brushed it off. After that i spoke with my family members (mind you, it was a lot of us there, maybe like 50 or more.) and they all said the waitresses were very rude and disrespectful to all of us. My date and I joked that you could put Dijon sauce on grilled rubberbands and have the same experience. My date's fried fish "wasn't bad." The candied yams were tasty, but they were hot on the outside and cold on the inside. That made me think they were microwaved (poorly). The sweet potato pie was clearly store bought, but it was tasty. But, like the yams, it wasn't the same temperature throughout. Londel's is in my opinion the youngest member what I call the Harlem's Old Gentry. The other titans being places like the Lenox Lounge and Minton's Playhouse. Londel's was opened in 1994 by former police officer Londel Davis. It was meant to complement the already historic & affluent Striver's Row section of Central Harlem. From its inception it was marketed as an upscale experience sanz the downtown zipcode. And in that sense Londel's managed to instill a sense of community pride in its patrons.If you walk by Londel's on a Thursday or Friday night you can't help but feel that someone or something important is going on inside. Perhaps it's the spaciousness of its tables, the presence of a full-sized piano (not a keyboard), or the focus diners' faces as they eat their food eyes transfixed on the jazz musicians. Londel's cuisine encompasses southern cajun, creole, and american comfort in order to capitalize on the sliding scale of peoples' changing tastes. This especially makes sense when you consider the changing face of harlem's "new" demographic. However, one of the downsides to establishments that acquire cultural tenure like Lenox Lounge, Sylvia's, and now Londels is that with their longevity they become pegged as tourist spots. They rest on their laurels which can sometimes lead to inconsistencies in service and a loss of authenticity in their cuisine. It's why you'll see some long-time harlem natives almost cringe at the thought of Sylvia's being the end all of true soul food. That being said these places still remain quite popular and generally liked by the masses which is just good business sense at the core. As for my personal experience I always have fun when I come to Londels. The bar area is clearly demarcated from the dining area which is awesome. This has recently become a pet peeve of mine as I sample more eateries all over the city. For some reason bars that are too close to eating areas somehow annoy me. I need some kind of free airspace so I don't feel like I'm spitting into someone's gumbo everytime I burst into laughter with my mates. Service at the bar area is always on point. There's a flat-screen tv showing ESPN to keep a gentleman company on days when one is not feeling chatty or flirtatious. The drinks are on point. The live music is always entertaining and always makes the food go down better as with a tasty glass of Savignon. The food at Londel's has fallen into hit-or-miss territory recently.However, there are a couple staples that have remained consistently tasty. Among them are the blackened catfish, mac & cheese, and sweet potatoes. The appetizers are pretty much of the average variety. The ambience and decor are simple with nice artwork lined across the walls. Lighting is comfortable. Nothing distracting. The waiters are friendly and attentive. The prices are a bit steeper only relative to other places in the area. Otherwise Londel's is in step with most 3 star restaurants in the city. Be aware that this is not a hipster hangout like Moca, Billie's Black, Shrine, DEN etc. This is the place you'll have a working dinner/drinks with colleagues, an after church meal with family, pre-show drinks or post-show dinner if you're seeing a Harlem School of the Arts performance,or if you live in the area and need a place to catch a good drink. I'm lucky enough to be just a 5 minute walk away. FYI: The best deal in the house is (still) by far Sunday's Brunch Buffet. All you can eat southern goodness for $20 bucks! read more

This is a note to read and believe some Yelp reviews. I should nave so this is a cautionary tale. I booked Londel's for my mother's 85th birthday celebration. I was told that I could come in and look at the private room and then book my party. I was shown the room by two Londel's employee's, the bartender and part of the wait staff. This was three weeks from the event date which was today March 19th. I booked the date and the time of 5:30 pm- 8:30 pm. I asked several times whether or not i could come earlier to decorate and was told yes, sure you can come early and decorate the room. So today comes and we get there at 5:15 pm and the private room is occupied. That is really strange since I booked it. I was told then that no, I didn't booked the room I booked the lounge area. I was shown a receipt that I had never seen before that had the word "Lounge" written across the top in pen. What!? Wait!? I was never told I'd booked the "Lounge"! I was shown a private room and told this would be my area. Needless to say the staff tried to convince me otherwise and basically just lied to my face, and unfortunately Mr. Londel cosigned this foolishness instead of apologizing and offering any monetary compensation or sensible solution. He actually asked the other party to switch places with us, which made no sense since it was his staff's error. We continued in the "Lounge" space to have my mother's celebration. I ignored this major issued and put on a good face for my mom, family and guests. On the upside the food was good and the servers were pleasant enough. The manager Stephanie who booked the room with me acted like she didn't know there was a problem at the end of the night and neither she nor Mr. Londel offered any apology. So my tale ends with a "DON'T BOOK ANY LARGE PARTIES OR SPECIAL EVENTS BECAUSE THE PRIVATE ROOM IS A CRAP SHOOT!!!!!" I am not the first to warn you and if they don't get their act together I won't be the last. read more

I introduced my cousin to this place because I loved the atmosphere and the food is great. She decided to rent out the private room for a bridal shower dinner which would cost $40pp for 25 people. She left a $200 deposit to secure her space about a month before the event. We call the night before the dinner party to see what time it would be ok to decorate the room and was told by the manager that our room was no longer available and we will be given an area of 5 tables inside the restaurant. No warning, no phone calls to inform us just a sorry but this is what we are giving you now deal with it. So like any other normal person spending money we were highly upset. A contract was breached and there was no remorse. When we arrived we spoke with Mr. Londel himself and after being made to feel like we had no right to be upset he finally came to his senses and tried to make a semi private area by rearranging some furniture however when all the guest arrived this space was clearly inadequate. As the party in the private room was leaving he came to let us know that he will be moving us to the original room we booked. This was a relief but way too much back and forth then it was worth. The end result was beautiful, food was great, guest were happy and the bride to be was glowing while she enjoyed her friends and family. However I will never book another private event in this establishment. The bill after all of this was a mere $400 because we refused to be held to any contract after all the hoopla. Ah, Londell's, a longstanding neighborhood "supper club"...a place you can never count on to be open; a place that's been renovated 4 times in the last 4 years; and probably the only restaurant in NYC that refuses to take your take order over the phone. My favorite way to take in Londell's is at home sitting in my window listening to the sounds of the live jazz waft in from around the corner...eating food from somewhere else. I've given Londell's a lot of chances over the years and it is rare that I am not disappointed. The food is not great, it's hard to mess up fried chicken, gravy, greens or fish, but they do a pretty good job of it. The best thing on the menu are the catfish fingers. The service is solid, folks are friendly but slow. Bonus tip: This place seems to be attracting more and more "Harlem Gospel Tour" goers ie European tourist looking to take in "black culture" who roam the streets with expensive cameras and randomly crowd around your stoop... read more

Had Sunday brunch here with a friend. The venue is has a nice vibe to it. I will admit my initial bias: as a black man I love to support black-owned businesses. Despite that, I can say that it is clear the food is very very good. I had the ribs and meatloaf and I will say that this was definitely some of the best meatloaf I have had. If you are celebrating a special occassion, do let the hostess know when you make your reservation. Londell's is a neighborhood gem with live jazz nights, delicious upscale soul food and all you can eat soul food brunches on the weekends. All. You. Can. Eat. Soul. Food. We arrived starving. We all told eachother we would consume 5 plates of soul food. We filled our plates on round 1 with buttery sweet potatoes, hammy collard greens, sharp and cheesy mac and cheese, Crispy fried chicken and tender ribs. We never got back up. The fare at Londell's is wonderful. but let it be known, all you can eat soul food defeated us. I managed to get up for a 2nd round only to push the food around. There was nice spread of the classics and the customer service here is great. There was a large party brunching when we arrived and we were squeezed in with them. As an avid supporter of African American businesses in my neighborhood, I decided to try Londels restaurant. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and customer service at this restaurant. In light of the fact that the restaurant was virtually empty, the amount of time I spent waiting to be served was inexcusable. I waited 15-20 minutes to be given a menu. I waited an additional 30 minutes after ordering a simple veggie burger. When I inquired about the status of my order, the barista told me that my order was still not ready. I eventually cancelled and left without ever being served with any food. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Sigh. I first visited this restaurant over 10 years ago for my college graduation dinner. I didn't particularly enjoy the food but I chalked that up to the excitement of the day. Fast forward to Easter Sunday 2015. If there was a day for Londel's to be on point that was the day and yet they were below average in every way. First I made reservations for a party of 8. No one told me there would be an issue with this when I made the reservation. Yet when we arrived we were spilt into tables of 6 and 2 without explanation. Then we made our way to the buffet, which was set up more like a buffet you'd see in your church basement than an established restaurant. The presentation of the food did not look particularly appetizing and the pickings were slim. I had some not-so-cheesy mac and cheese and forgettable peas and rice and chicken. The kicker was "dessert": shortbread cookies with rainbow sprinkles. That was it! I couldn't believe it. I wound up going to town on the tiny cornbread muffins since I was so disappointed with my food. Jacobs and Mannas have better tasting food and better selections than this place :/ So when the bill comes we notice that a very large gratuity has been included for a waitress who didn't do much considering it was a buffet. We also noticed that we were charged for our mimosas. Now our waitress specifically stated when we first arrived that the $40 brunch buffet included free mimosas. I remember bc when I ordered a glass of wine the waitress encouraged me to get the mimosa bc it was included in my meal. When we reminded the waitress of her own words she simply said (with somewhat of an attitude) that she had been mistaken and the mimosas were not free....She didn't offer to adjust our bill so we just decided to just pay and get out of there. Although busy with the day to day routine of a successful restaurant, he is fully aware of all faces that enter his establishment. In case you're not aware the Sunday's Buffet Brunch at Harlem's Londel's is worth the trip all the way north of all of Manhattan's hustle and bustle. Called Londel's to make sure they were open and confirm that dinner for two that evening was available. The response was yes. Arrived an hour later with my guest and was told I could not have dinner because they were having an event and then closing. Not nice. read more

I came in around 8pm on a Wednesday, it was a nice ambience inside with the music playing a few TVs on. I ended up ordering the Fried Chicken/Southern Fried Chicken dinner with a side of Green Beans and Mac & Cheese. Also had two glasses of red wine. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, very meaty, juicy, and a nice golden brown crisp to it. The green beans were very good as well as the Mac and cheese.
