After having worked Downtown for a while, I had never been here until my coworker suggested it - I'm a fan of tacos, and Lone Star ain't too bad. I surprisingly went seafood - shrimp and then also fish. Their tacos are on the hefty side, so 2 is usually enough to fill you up. Coincidentally, both had mango on them, which made them refreshing to eat. I also had their queso - it got the job done. If it weren't so far north Downtown (funny I say this because in reality it's not far from where I work...), I think Lone Star would be in my regular rotations. This might be one of the worst places to grab lunch on main st. The only reason I am not giving this restaurant a one star is merely the fact that their chicken honey sauce is pretty decent. Shrimp and beef tacos were absolutely God awful. "Best damn queso" is completely wrong. It came out cold and was decent but nothing to right home about. On a regular day the service is great, but today (Saturday at 2:00PM) I ordered nachos to go so I could pick them up and head back to work. Well, I arrived for my order and was told to proceed to the bar for pickup; the bartender asks for my name and looks confused. She walks to the back to check on something and comes back to enter my order in the system. I asked her, "Ma'am, did they even place my order?!" She replies, "No, I'm sorry. I can order it for you now." I tell her that, "I cannot wait for my order because I am at work, that's why I caleld it in 20 minutes ago and walked out." While I was headed back to work, I called the restaurant and asked to speak with a Manager, but was informed that no Mangers are available on the weekends; they only work during the week -__- So confused on how you can handle everyday downtown business, M-F, but not little to no business on the weekends. In an effort to support downtown businesses who are undoubtedly suffering (COVID + the holidays), we ate here today. Pros: staff was very nice and chatty; chips and queso were the best thing we had. My mom ordered chicken quesadillas and said they were good. Cons: I got the burrito bowl with chicken, and it literally had zero flavor. Nada. None. Zilch. I put as much salsa on it as I could but that didn't help either. My husband got the beef quesadillas and they LOOKED really good. He said the beef tasted like fish, however, so he just couldn't finish them. The salsa was flavorless (and heated just FYI) which would explain why it didn't help my burrito bowl. The tortilla was better than many plus it's hard to go wrong with bacon and eggs. I'd like to go back and try their non-breakfast tacos sometime. I live downtown and this place is a convenient spot to get tacos. The last time I called in an order though it took them about an hour to get my order together, for two people. That is ridiculous. The queso is delicious! The tacos are good but not amazing. I like that they have one of those soda machines that has a ton of flavors. Also when you order chips make sure to check the bags, I've gotten some that were literally 1/3 full. That's nothing if you order queso and salsa. Our hotel was next door to this place so we decided to check it out. I thought it was kind of pricey for what we purchased. I got half a Barbacoa quesadilla and a order of the fajita steak nachos. My experience today was similar to Chris D's. Since it has only been open a few days I expected things to be a bit disorganized, but I had no idea it would be this bad. Food runners are still wandering around aimlessly. I couldn't tell who was in charge. It didn't look like anyone was. My receipt is time stamped 12:28, and I got my food (after inquiring about it twice) at around 1:05. The guy next to me had been waiting 50 minutes!! Oh wait, did I say I got my food? Actually, I got someone else's food. I had ordered "The Greenhorn", which is a fried shrimp taco. What I discovered upon returning to my office (lunch hour's over!) was a flour tortilla with some beef fajita and cheddar cheese. It wasn't a beef fajita taco because it was sans grilled onions and peppers. It also came with a little plastic cup with about two teaspoons of salsa in it. I ate it. It was ok but nothing great. I hope that things improve and that they can make it. We really needed an additional (and interesting) food option in this part of downtown. I'm going to give them another few weeks to get their sea legs and then try again. The dining room was full today and the line at the place across the street was noticeably shorter than usual, so the demand is there. read more

I think this place just opened today. I got here around 1:30 and made my order. My receipt actually says 1:29pm. I was just going to order food to go and run back to the office. It took them 50 minutes from the moment I got my receipt until the moment they put my food in my hand. Maybe it was first day jitters, so I won't hold it against them today. But they were very disorganized, food runners were wandering around the store with lost looks on their faces, searching for the corresponding order numbers. I think they need to learn how to run food a little more efficiently. If you're having problems finding a customer, yell out the order number. Just my two cents. They did serve me tacos with cold tortillas, though, which is always a bitter disappointment. Obviously store bought tortillas. I think restaurants would really take off if they take the time to make tortillas by hand. I ordered a beef fajita taco, a Pecos Bill (which is "Shredded chicken braised in a chipotle tomato sauce and topped with shredded cheese & sliced avocado"), and a Greenhorn ("Hand-battered fried shrimp topped with cooked cabbage slaw, pickled jalapeños & onions, queso fresco & cilantro. Served with a lime wedge & CHIPOTLE SAUCE on your choice of tortilla"). I think the shrimp are frozen with the batter already applied, and then just flash fried onsite. They were also pretty small shrimp, almost salad shrimp sized. Also, my shrimp taco had no cabbage slaw, just the pickled jalapenos and onions, and queso fresco. Actually there was no cilantro on it either. It was a pretty small taco. They asked me what kind of sauce I wanted with my beef fajita taco, I opted for the avocado sauce, which was actually really tasty. Sadly, this little togo container of sauce might have been the best part of the whole experience. The beef fajita taco was nothing special, but the Pecos Bill was pretty good. read more

Initially I was attracted to the reasonable breakfast taco prices and the nice marketing outside. There was a steady stream of people, but not busy by any means. I ordered the chicken fajita taco and the old betsy taco (avacado on a breakfast taco? WIN!). The corn tortillas are those cheap yellow tortillas you buy in the aisle of the grocery store. Basically, they suck. The fajita meat was dried out, and flavourless. I'm not sure what the point is of asking someone what sauce they want on the taco if the chef is just going to leave the sauce off & not put it in as a side. The breakfast taco was cold. Cold eggs and cold tortillas...how appetizing. They also forgot the avacado. If every taco is really "made fresh", then I want to know how they flash freeze the eggs. The cashier was friendly and helpful in explaining their different sauces & my food was fairly quick to come out, but that was the only positive side. There are much better taco options in the area. Seems like the chefs need to learn their own menu and get better at adding in the condiments. This place was a definite NO for me. read more

Surprisingly I love their queso and I don't normally like yellow queso! It was rich and creamy with a scoop of guac and shredded cheese on top. I'm normally a white queso person so I was surprised! Straight copycat of torchy's.. I got the sampler, which featured 5 different tacos. Sadly, all of them tacos tasted the same. Decent, but not great. The best part about this dish was the queso, but there's so little of it. My colleagues ordered the full-fledged tacos, but they were about 60% of the size of Torchy's offerings. They forgot both our orders and had to be reminded several times to get it right. For the price, the tacos weren't very filing nor did they look all that great. Hmmm, it was interesting to read all the negative reviews, because we had a great early lunch there. I had the Maui fish taco. A little salty but got quite a kick of heat. Mango was a nice touch. Also got the fried avocado, it was good. I liked how you are able to get little containers of sauces to add to the already sauced tacos. Because c'mon, we all know the saucer the food, the better it tastes. By the time we got our food, the lunch line was already all the way around the restaurant. I could see how service could slow down rapidly. Hopefully this place gets out of the growing pains of a new restaurant and keep improving on the food. read more

Ok, I get the fact that this place just opened a week or so ago, but waiting 40 minutes for tacos is ridiculous. I ordered the Old Betsy and the Longrider. I looked forward to the "crisp corn tortilla strips" on the Old Betsy but they were missing. Thankfully, the avocado made up it. The Longrider was advertised as having a lime wedge to accompany it and alas, that was missing too. To make matters worse, both tacos were cold. :[ Like the other reviewers, I also observed the food runners as confused and disorganized. I really can't see why this place would ever be below 4 stars. The taco's are in fact great, I would recommend getting the sampler and trying a bunch all at once. It is the only place to go downtown to get a real taco that I know of. Really this place would have gotten the 5th star if they had beer. There are growlers all over the walls and you have no beer! Given how close it is to my loft I've been giving them the benefit of the doubt. The erratic hours have been horrible, but Saturday they posted notices on their doors about their new firm hours. M-F 8-8, Saturdays 11-8 I was glad to see this so on Saturday, the day they posted new hours, I stopped by a little after 5. You guessed it, they were closed up tight. It doesn't seem the owners or management understands that customers will only give you so many disappointments before they won't come back. Came in at 12:30 expecting a long lunch line but only 1 person in front of us. Great start! Ordered 2 chicken fajita tacos and a queso and chips. Total was just under $13. Food came out super fast and I was ready to dig into that tasty looking cheesy goodness. It had a small drop of guacamole and some orange colored sauce. I mixed it in and tried it.. whoa that's good! Very different than your average queso. Beware though, the spice may sneak up on you if you stop eating it! The foodie that I am had to pour the queso on my taco- great idea. Go me!
