I foolishly disregarded the bad reviews I read because there were some good ones as well -- these guys may be good dentists, but their office is so disorganized that I never found out. I made an appointment for a cleaning (as a new patient). I arrived ten minutes early, waited patiently for over an hour, then was taken for a huge x-ray series (presumably because I was a new patient, but I thought it excessive), waited again to see the dentist, who examined me and told me it was too late to get my teeth cleaned because his staff had to go to lunch. I wasted two hours and never got a cleaning, which was the entire purpose of my visit. They weren't even apologetic. read more

Either my teeth did not need much cleaning or they were overlooked, however when the dentist did his cleaning in about under 5 min, it was the fastest cleaning of my life. they polished before the cleaning..which I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. He also did a quick check of my mouth for cavities etc, all looked good and then when I had concerns about gums, I was told just to continue brushing and flossing. no need for anything else. SO basic efficient and also friendly staff. The only con was the x ray machine, that I had to hold myself in my mouth, kind of awkward but I am sure they are improving! I wish the dentist could have been a little more thorough with me, but maybe he didn't need to according to his view. read more

I have Liberty Dental Insurance through my employer, and in the past had terrible experiences with the dentists in Long Beach who accept my plan. I've been to this office twice and have had a preliminary exam, X-rays, a cleaning, and two fillings done. The office is in an old building and some of their equipment is dated. However, the space is clean and welcoming. Carmen and the rest of the staff have consistently been polite, organized, and friendly. The dentist moves quickly from patient to patient but doesn't make me feel as if I'm just a dollar sign. I like that they accept Care Credit, since my dental plan isn't great and I will need a crown done in the future. Their pricing is on par with other offices in the area. I'm quite happy with their service so far and would continue to see them even if my plan didn't require me to. read more

Passable dental work is the nicest thing I can say about this place. I'm sure the dentist studied very hard to learn his trade, but he didn't think much about what is going to make people comfortable in a setting where you are already going to cause them discomfort if not pain. So: Long wait with an appointment (even though there was only one other person waiting). The waiting room TV cranked to whatever chatterbox station they've left it on, which at this time of day was talking head fluff news hour. Not deafening, but loud. They do not so much as bat an eye when a kid comes in with his PSP cranked to the maximum, making the audio background of the waiting room a cross between nightly news talking head spew and some kind of a fighting game. (His mother is simply glad her child is not annoying her and studiously ignoring him.) When I went into the actual room with the dental chair, I was asked if I wanted to watch TV. Not wanting to listen to more nightly news, I said "Only if I can have the remote." They looked for the remote, couldn't find the cable channel one (only the on/.off/volume one), so I asked them to just turn it off. The hygienist comes in moments before I'm about to have a needle stuffed in my face, and turns it on. I tell her, knowing we can't change the channel, that I'd really rather just not have it on. She doesn't quite compute for a moment that TV is not always needed or wanted, mutters something about just wanting to "see what's on", and after puzzling for a moment that she can't change the channel, leaves the TV on while she goes off to do... something. I don't know what. Oh, it gets better though. When they were done with my novocaine, and I had a mouthful of spit and banana dental gel and stray novocaine hanging in my mouth, and I needed to rinse, I looked for the familiar comfort that nearly every dental chair I've ever been in has: the swirly sink. You know, it's the little round sink with a constant jet of water, ready to take up all your nasty backwash and whisk it away. The nice ones have a little cupholder for either water or mouthwash (depending on which button you push), and they stand there, ready to bestow a little comfort in a harsh world where someone has JUST STUFFED A NEEDLE INTO YOUR FACE. Instead of that, I got offered what looked like a funnel attached to a hose. A small, maybe 4" diameter funnel, with a paper cup kind of lining, I'm assuming to get changed out from patient to slobbering patient. I'm totally not kidding. The assistant held it out for me as if that was what I needed and handed me a cup of mouthwash when I asked for plain water. She didn't even seem to understand that I needed water, or why half a pint of mouthwash and a PAPER FUNNEL wasn't really helping me. Then we get onto the fun part, and while I don't expect dental work to be a completely tidy experience, and an occasional backsplash or spray is to be expected, I had to make them stop halfway through because they were letting water/spray/spit dribble down both sides of my neck. It was disgusting. They didn't even think it was a problem until I protested. There's a couple of factors that make this a convenient location for me, but the experience is not worth it. This is my first review in a while...I just feel the need to share my GREAT experience with Dr. Rezkalla and his staff. I am 36 weeks pregnant and it is very hard to get any dental work done this late in a pregnancy, but I really needed a tooth extracted. When I called to make my appointment I was told that all I would need was a written letter from my ob/gyn approving x-rays and local anesthetic. Once I arrived at my appointment I did wait about 15 minutes before being seen but I find that normal with any medical office. Once I met with Dr. Rezkalla he decided to do a single x-ray to minimize risk to the baby, which I appreciated. After looking at the x-ray he determined that the tooth should be extracted but did explain that it could not be done at his office. He then told me that his staff would start immediately working on getting an emergency authorization for so I could have the tooth removed ASAP. I assumed I would be sent home and would receive a call within a few days but he had me wait in the office and I was authorized within 10 minutes. This normally can take up to 4 weeks. Before I left the office Dr. Rezkalla made sure I had copies of my authorization form, my letter from my ob/gyn as well as the actual x-rays (to insure that I wouldn't have to get them done a second time). Having my own copies of all these saved me a lot of time dealing with insurance. Overall I feel that Dr. Rezkalla and his staff went above and beyond, making the entire experience very easy. I should follow my own advice, dang it. Should have read these reviews first. It was an emergency, a split tooth that had a root canal. I needed it pulled ASAP as it hurts like hell. It's right around the corner from my house so I went out of convenience. Carmen got me in that night after work. Xrays were taken, tech was very nice. After about 1 1/2 hours, finally saw the Dentist. Starts talking about how to "save" the tooth. I said "I want it pulled now".. and he starts going on about cleaning, cavities etc... I said "I want my tooth pulled, that's it"... well they referred me off to an oral surgeon, they don't do that there. I was pissed and crying in pain as I stomped out of the place. Staff was nice enough but if I wanted a teeth cleaning etc, I would have asked for it. I hate all the suggestive selling that goes with Dentists. I go tomorrow for my extraction. EDIT: I was a bit ticked off when I wrote this, I didn't get my way and was in mass amounts of pain.... so take it with a grain of salt. Today is my fourth visit in this establishment as I've had some extensive work done after my root canal. I can't help but notice how friendly everyone is in this dental office. The ladies that have taken my X-rays were gentle, Dr. Root Canal( Dr.Shariba) made my recent root canals an amazing and pain-free experience, and Carmen- I can't help but rave about CARMEN! She has been patient and careful as she explained all of the financial details of my extensive dental work. Before my visit here as I shopped for the best prices for my four root canals + crowns, I was at My Family Dentist (Termino and Anaheim). That experience was unfortunately a horrid one. Their tone was condescending and quoted me much more that three other places I visited. Needless to say, I decided to stop here because Carmed and the other young lady who took my X-rays made me feel so comfortable and reassured me I was going to be taken care of. My visit started off ok, didn't have to wait long and with my insurance I only had a $5 copay. After that, the whole experience just become really, really bad. I would NEVER recommend this office to anyone. They took some xrays of my mouth, then left me awkwardly in the xray chair for 20 minutes because they didn't know what room to send me to. Finally I was moved to a tiny, cramped, weird little room where I sat in the dentist chair forced to endure the LOUDEST episode of Spongebob I have ever been subjected to. I tried to turn the TV off but the remote didn't work. A hygienist came in and asked if I wanted her to change the channel (at this point I had been waiting almost an hour) and I asked her to please just turn it off, I didn't go to the dentist to watch cartoons. She started channel surfing, and that's when I really got pissed. I asked her again to turn it off (she did) and she seemed offended and left. The dentist came in and told me I didn't have any cavities, then asked if I wanted my teeth cleaned. Um, yea? Isn't that why I go to the dentist twice a year? Anyway, I did some more waiting, the angry hygienist came back and brushed my teeth with that little whirly thing, then attempted to floss my teeth. I say attempted because she couldn't get the floss between my teeth. I asked her "What exactly are you doing?" And she said "Well, I don't want to hurt your gums." Twice a year lady, you can hurt my gums. Get the floss in there. Do whatever. She left, the dentist came back and told me everything looked good, and I was dismissed. NOT ONCE did the dentist or hygienist pick up a metal tool and scrape any tartar or anything like that. I don't know what the hell they're doing at this office, but it's not dentistry. This place sucks. Seriously. I would give them negative stars if I could. Oh, and I forgot... this is the only dentist I've ever been to where spit was continuously spraying in my eyes. The hygienist even warned me to close my eyes. WTF UPDATE: Found out from new dentist that I actually have some pretty funky gingivitis in my mouth that this Dr. failed to tell me about. So, not only did this place suck a lot, they did not even do their job, that is, letting me know that I desperately need my poor teeth/gums cleaned. read more

I'm gonna start by saying that I disagree with the negative reviews on this place. If at some point in time they were bad, that time has passed. I haven't been to a dentist in at least 5 years. I met with Dr. Rezkalla last week. Meeting him immediately put me at ease, and I knew I was in good care. Unfortunately he told me the news that I anticipated, which was I was going to need some fillings. I scheduled the work for a week later. I just got that work done, and I have to say, he did an outstanding job. I can tell that he knows its uncomfortable being the patient, so he just knocked the work out and did a great job. Probably didnt take more than 5 minutes per filling. Definitely was a positive experience, and I will be happy to go back for my 6 month check up. read more

I was relieved to find this office very clean and comfortable. The whole office has a nice decor. The staff communicated with me every step of the way. I've had multiple visits for a root canal and while sitting in the waiting room, I was greeted by name by the technicians and staff if they walk by. The overall feeling is respectful and pleasant. It's nice to have a big screen TV in the waiting room and lots of magazines. In each patient's room, they give you the controls for your own TV once you're settled in. Two complaints - the reason I gave less than 5 stars... -I really liked Dr. Rezkalla and trusted his opinion, but I found him less than gentle. -During xrays I had to hold a shield in my mouth with my hand - never had to do that before. However, I really liked being able to see the xrays immediately on the same screen they were using and again on the tv in the patient's room - they flip back and forth between the tv and the computer screen! My husband gave me a thumbs up for this office (we just moved in the area and he went in for a cleaning b4 me). When I needed a dentist for an emergency, I found I totally agreed. Dr. Rezkalla was personable and very honest about what I needed and his staff was just great. It would be difficult for me to fully express how grateful I am to have found this dentist. I have been going here for years. I have recently moved two hours away from him, and I still travel to his office for all of my dental work. He is just that good. Let's start with the office staff. Super friendly. Carmen is a gem. Dr. R. Is as professional as it gets. He explains to you absolutely everything. Furthermore, he is not super-aggressive. He explains what is going on in your mouth, and what needs to be treated, and what can be watched. I am a physician. I know that when you find a health care provider that is right for you, you stick with him. I have stuck with Dr. R., because he is phenomenal. I used to travel from West Hollywood to Long Beach (a one hour drive) just to go to this office. I had a very good experience. I made an appointment for a tooth extraction. I didn't have to wait very long before the dentist saw me. They explained what needed to be done, I signed the paper work and paid for the extraction -- and it took place immediately. The dentist and his assistants were extremely professional and kind during the entire procedure. I was asked to return in a week to have the stitches removed. Again, I couldn't have waited more than 5-minutes before being called into a room to have them removed. That took less than 5-minutes and I was out the door. I'm a happy patient! read more

I do not like this place at all! I chose them as a dental provider because I literally lived about three blocks away, but boy did I regret it. Each appointment had about an hour wait even though it was scheduled in advance. The dentist is not unfriendly, and seems to be pretty competent, but has zero bedside manner. The staff is nice, but I wonder about their skills. They keep you on hold on the phone for 10+ minutes at a time, and do everything reeeeeaaallyyyy slowly. Also, this office only does exams, X-rays, and cleaning. I have had to get referrals to oral surgeons and endodontists for procedures. Anytime I have had big procedures done, they have NEVER called me to follow up. I have always had to call and ask what I'm supposed to do next. I moved away from the area this year, and was glad to switch dentists! All I can say is thank goodness my copay for their services was $0! read more

I've been there three times, the office is small old and cramped. The staff was nice enough but not very competent. They told me I needed a procedure but it could wait I assume so they could wait for more insurance money. My tooth started hurting so I went back, and they scheduled me a month from then so I waited with a bad tooth the day of the new scheduled appointment they told me they couldn't do the procedure because they couldn't get my insurance info, even though I had called the day before and had brought in my insurance card. "because they couldn't get the breakdown". I was beside myself. I called a new office they told me they could see me today. I think Long Beach Dental is understaffed and unprofessional. I won't use this dentist again. I don't trust them. After paying a lot for a deep cleaning, another "polish" cleaning was included in the price, to be scheduled later. When I went in for the polish cleaning, they wanted to charge me for the cleaning. I had dropped my insurance in between visits, and they gave that as the reason for changing their story. Instead, they offered a $20 office visit and exam, but no cleaning. The wait in the office for each appointment was also a problem. I didn't have a problem with their dental work, but again, I don't trust them, and won't go back, even though I have some more work to do - you don't get a second chance guys. read more

Had my first visit today. Professional, clean, friendly. They took my insurance (Delta Dental). There's practically a flatscreen TV in every room which is sort of cool if you enjoy a distraction while waiting for your appointment or sitting in the chair. I recently visited Dr. Rezkalla for a cleaning and to get a referral to an oral surgeon for an impacted wisdom tooth. The office was clean and everyone from the front desk to Dr. Rezkalla himself were helpful, friendly, and professional. My insurance company was being difficult but his office took care of them so I didn't have to! I'm not a "scared of the dentist" kind of guy but don't particularly enjoy going either but after visiting here I won't procrastinate my cleanings like I have in the past. read more

I had to sit there choking on that stupid sensor over and over again til she was happy with the images. After going back repeatedly and them wanting to charge me $4000 for extraction and bridge, I went to western dental with same issue and extraction was done on spot and bridge is 3500. I took my family here for two years, without to many complaints. Although my husband was unhappy and wanted to change from his very first visit. I wish I would have listened. I made three attempts before finally getting an appt. The lady at the front desk literally told me she was to busy to check on my insurance. I did her job for her and when I was positive it was active I made an appt. When I went in they kept me waiting for an hour. and a half, only to tell me I wasn't active on my insurance. I am 100% sure I am, in the office I called again and was told again my insurance was good. I really like Dr. Rezkalla, he is very friendly and genuine. I think the office is very nicely decorated and comfortable. The staff is very friendly but at times I have a hard time communicating with the hygienist. I do not like the X-Ray machine but I think it is probably because I have a collapsed jaw not leaving me with much room for the instruments I have to bite down on. Overall I have had a good experience and will continue coming here. Compared to other dental offices I have been to Dr. Rezkalla's is by far the nicest. read more

I like this place, a lot. The receptionist gave me a call the day before the appointment to remind me, and then gave me a call the morning of to proactively let me know about an issue with my insurance. I called the insurance and got it all resolved before the appointment, but the receptionist's forward thinking allowed me to keep my appointment on the day I had set it (having a busy schedule, this means a lot!). The dentist and dental assistants were both quick, friendly, and efficient. Once I got called in, I was in and out of there pretty quick. I don't think you could do better in Long Beach! read more

I have been going to Long Beach Dental, since the previous owner owned the office. Since Dr. Razkalla took over the location, I've seen nothing but improvements. The Doctor is very experienced and knowledgeable as well as friendly. Additionally, his staff is very helpful, easy to talk to and professional. I have been to other dentist offices, over the years, and this is by far one of the best. Their prices are also usually much better than most other dentist offices in the area. I don't live in Long Beach any longer and I now drive about an hour, each way, to see this dentist. He and his staff are worth it! Carmen, the front office manager, is a jewel!! I am extremely disappointed with the treatment of this dental office. First last night they call and try to cancel my appt. I refused bc I had already taken the day off. I would not recommend them under any circumstances. They are disrespectful, unprofessional, and discriminatory. After having me arrange to send over my x-rays they did not give me a cleaning or do anything to start my crown as I expected. Basically wasted my time and had to pay a copay for nothing to get done. They accused me of being disrespectful bc I didn't want to waste my time or money in their office doing an exam I did less than a month ago. When I tried to explain he walked away and called me disrespectful. Said he would not being doing anything for me. Advised his receptionist to call my insurance to have me discharged. It was because I am black they did not want to hear anything I had to say. They did not empathize w my frustration. They did not want to resolve my concerns. They did not care why I was frustrated and did nothing to address my concerns. When I calmly called my insurance to file a grievance they aggressively asked me to leave their facilities while threatening to call the police. It took everything in me not to go all the way off. Pray that God handles them for me because how I feel right now. I was able to get reassigned, my goal is to not have to get charged for another exam and x-ray. All I want is to finish my crown. Also the building and equipment can't be up to code. Their building and equipment looks out dated. They need an inspection ASAP. read more
