I placed a takeout order for my grandmothers last meal as she's in hospice and declining quickly. On the way to her I realized the burger was missing. She always loved long doggers burgers so I knew I had to turn around and let the staff know I was missing the burger. When I arrived, they were very rude and acted like I was just trying to get a free burger. I used to come here all the time and it's gone downhill clearly. We waited about 20 minutes for a table & our waitress was such a sweetheart!! She brought me an extra drink, without me asking, at no charge! I had the veggie tacos & they were piled high with sautéed veggies & avocado. It came with pico & mango salsa! It was delicious! Forgot to take a pic, cuz it looked so yummy, I just dug in!! Our server was so friendly and kind. Can't go wrong with the Summer Salad. (I added blackened shrimp which was perfect!) My kids' dishes were generous portions and it was a very laidback, family-friendly atmosphere. My husband loved the dog (I forget which one). One of our favorite spots in Melbourne was closed so we came here, and we are very glad we did. Service was friendly and quick. Food was served hot and was very good. This is obviously a haunt for locals as well as students from the state college. We had the loaded chips and NE clam chowder for apps. This would be a five star review except for this one thing; we were shorted on our bbq rib amount. On Father's Day, me and my son both ordered the half rack rib special. Our ribs were outstanding, but we each only received 4 rib bones. Our ribs were devoured in about 3 minutes! We each got a quarter of a rack, not a half. Unfortunately, we both left hungry as we were in no mood to complain or argue over quantity. We will most certainly be back and will continue to enjoy the other reasonably priced items on the menu, just not the ribs. read more

A good place to chill out over some drinks and beach food in a relaxed atmosphere, minus the beach since this Long Doggers is located inland across from Brevard Community College. You can dine inside (dark), where there's a bar and booth & table seating OR dine outside (I prefer) under the covered tropical patio with finished picnic tables and seating at the straw covered bar. There are TVs inside and outside too. On Thursday evenings (6PM-9PM), steel drums live! Several drink specials are offered (as of 01/2008) including 2-4-1 drafts on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 8PM and 5 bottles of Bud/Bud Light for $10 everyday. Menus are at each table which offer sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, salads, seafood, BBQ, dinner baskets, appetizers, and desserts. The service here is pretty good and attentive with refills and reorders on drinks and timely delivery of food. The young waitresses work as a team because I had 3 different waitresses bring out my food and drinks on the last visit. My other boss in NH loves this place because it's very close to his wife's parents house. He gets pretty hammered up here and can crawl back to the house. Overall, I would give this place 4 STARS for the good food, relaxed atmosphere, & service, but for my boss, I'll add the extra star for the "stumbling distance" factor between this Long Doggers and his in-laws. read more

Pretty interesting experience at Long Doggers. This is a standard type of "surfer restaurant", and it's really decorated that way. Half of the restaurant is interior while the other half of the restaurant is entirely outdoors. Both sides of the restaurant include a bar area while the restrooms are inside. You seat yourself when you get there, so consider what type of atmosphere you'd like, and just pick a spot. This seems to be a really big "locals" place. Lots of people were called by name by the waitresses, and people seemed to be meeting up here to talk or go out for a walk. Definitely a busy place that's pretty valued by the locals here. Their specialty is clearly the hot dogs. For those without a taste for hot dogs, though, they offer alternatives like chicken tenders. Each platter seemed to get a "decorative" fruit (pineapple) as well as a small cup of coleslaw. My partner ended up getting some of the chicken tenders with their waffle fries. He loves the waffle fries. I ended up getting a hot dog. I wasn't so fond of it. The footlong hot dog definitely gives you QUITE a bit of food, and they aren't kidding about the "foot long" part. However, most of my hot dog was burnt, and the skin was tough and didn't easily chew like I was expecting. The bread was also a bit too cooked, so it was also crunchy. Not at all what I expected from a hot dog. Service was pretty minimal. It was there, but we waited a long time to be waited on and a long time to receive drink refills or a check. It looks like they were stretched a bit thin, but everybody was relatively friendly, so that was a plus. Probably wouldn't come back, but it was neat to experience a local eatery. read more

Long Doggers hits the spot for Florida local fast casual. It's quick and consistent with a hometown feel. The type of local, casual place you feel like you can bring your dog, sit down with an old friend and have some honest comfort food for a while...or just a quick lunch if that's more your speed. . The meal: Starter: fish dip, exactly as expected, tasted like a wahoo based dip, served with fried wonton chips (an neat touch but not for me) and the traditional wrapped cracker. If your into spice it also features a side of pepper sauce that was on point Main dish: shrimp and grits. This was the absolute highlight for me. I don't know if it was the early lunch or a common occurrence but the shrimp were perfectly cooked and grits were very southern style cheddar cheese grits (how I personally like them, but they are rich so you have to be into that.) Dessert: FRIED HAWAIIAN ROLLS?!?! These are unique and adventurous so points for creativity. They taste like dense not too sweet doughnuts and they are a brilliant idea on a menu for a place like this. The rolls do absorb quite a bit of oil, so if your not into fair food, they probably aren't for you. Overall I think the menu is a little much to take all in and wouldn't hurt from a little trimming, but the atmosphere, creativity and price point make Long Doggers a solid lunch or dinner bite if your trying to get a feel of what local FL cuisine is all about. read more
