5 stars - A birthday lunch worth traveling for We stopped into Long Grain for a birthday lunch while vacationing in Camden, and it completely lived up to the hype -- and then some. Everything we ordered was spot-on: the fried tofu was golden and crisp without being greasy, and the tom kha soup was light but layered with flavor, packed with mushrooms (a favorite of ours) and the kind of broth you want to savor slowly. The pad kemao with pork belly was the standout -- reasonably spicy and made with their signature handmade noodles that were simply perfect. Fat, silky, and just the right amount of chewy before they melted in your mouth. The pork belly added just the right hit of richness. We also had the pad see ew with chicken, a gentler, sweeter dish that was deeply comforting and ideal for someone craving classic Thai flavors without the heat. We sipped on green jasmine hot tea throughout, which felt like the ideal companion to the meal -- fragrant, light, and calming. This was a birthday meal to remember -- casual, cozy, and quietly extraordinary. Long Grain is a gem, and we're already dreaming about our next visit.

We have been coming here annually on our trips to the Camden, ME area. It is something we prioritize each year, because, it simply is the best Thai food we have had, and it is in an unexpected location. The quality has not only stayed true over the last years, but at our visit last night I would say it has somehow gotten even better! The flavors are spot on, the dining room is elevated cozy, the staff is kind and down to earth as you would expect in mid coast Maine, and the owners and chefs are always visible and available. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time, as it can be busy during the summer season, but really that is a tribute to how good this place is! Even in a seafood town, this is the place that you need a reservation. I look forward to many more years of coming to Long Grain. Thank you for being part of our family annual tradition!

Returning to Long Grain was nostalgic. While the menu has evolved, the classics remained. Just a block off of the main drag in Camden, this place has some of the best Thai/Asian food that I have ever eaten. While getting a table isn't always easy, it's well worth the wait. I have always found the team to be extremely informed and ready to guide you toward what you might like and your desired spice level. The show stopper for me is absolutely the wide rice noodles that are incorporated into several dishes including the photo of the Chicken Pad Kemao included here. I would also recommend the mussels, coconut soup and larb from the small plates. Hard to honestly go wrong on the entrees. I will certainly be returning soon!

The food here is DELICIOUS. I ordered the Pad Pak and the menu doesn't tell you but it comes with jasmine rice to soak up the delicious almost broth that it comes in. You can also sub the meats easily which is very nice. The service was good, very friendly and accommodating, don't be afraid to ask for changes! The only note I have is that they do not pick up the phone, it wasn't busy when I went but they wouldn't pick up the phone when I tried calling and while I was eating not once did they reach for the phone even when not busy. The interior is comfy and the ambiance is very pleasant and welcoming. The others in my party all loved their dishes as well!

The last time I ate here, I gave it 5 stars. This time was a little disappointing. I still highly recommend it, and make sure to make a reservation. But the curry my friend had, which didn't say spicy, was WAY too spicy and they had to get something else. And the fried tofu app was not exciting or unique. But everything is still cooked perfectly and the pad seuw is still to die for.

We had a delicious dinner at Long Grain! The dessert was surprisingly the best part. The coconut crème brûlée over black sticky rice was heavenly! We enjoyed the green papaya salad and the pork skewers to start. We'd definitely get the skewers again! For entree's, we had the Kao Soi Gai and the Pad Kemao. Both were delicious, but the Pad Kemao, in particular, was amazing! We will definitely be back to get that again. The staff was very attentive, seemed to be working well as a team, and the dishes came out fairly quickly. However, the atmosphere was odd. It was a little cold and we could hear most of the conversation at all tables near us. They might want to consider some sound dampening techniques or an alternative seating layout.

The food was quite good. However the service was slow which took some of the luster off the quality of the food. My second drink never came and just prior to leaving the waitress said "darn, I forgot your drink do you still want it?" I declined. The picture shows them spelling "maticulous" when they meant "meticulous" . Apparently someone wasn't who made the menu.

Freshest greens in Camden! The basil and mint in the spring rolls is perfectly blended. The fresh noodle dishes are such a delight with the abundance of greens and homemade noodles. The coconut flan is divine! Do not attempt to share it with anyone. Also, make reservations no matter what time or day you decide to go. read more

Only 5-star review I've done and it's with some ambivalence. It's a small place and already hard to get reservations, much less walk in. Cramped seating, limited beer menu, and awkward restroom only add to the ambiance. No advertising or website, their marketing department has limited itself to a fb page (consisting of photos of the current menu) and a sign on the door (8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper). Local fish, greens, mushrooms, seaweed, rabbit, etc. are a given. Kao pad pla too (smoked mackerel fried rice) and Pad ke mao (mushroom noodle soup) often appear on the menu and are worth a trip by themselves. Take out is a good option, too. read more

We came to the restaurant because of the outstanding reviews but frankly were disappointed. The staff was not very attentive and although we had a reservation, they ignored us when we arrived and it took awhile after we were seated for them to bring menus. The food was fine but was a bit overly salty and tasted like there was too much soy sauce. Overall, this restaurant was fine but our experience did not live up to the hype. read more

Okay, so we went over a year ago, so this is a very delayed post, but this is a place we talk about all the time, it was that good. We live in Australia and have some amazing Thai restaurants to choose from and Long Grain still stands out as one of the best! We went early May, so it was the off season and not very busy. We received great service and spectacular food. I can't remember what we had, but it was all good. I do remember ordering a dish with house made noodles and enjoying that immensely. I wish I could return here regularly but sadly due to distance, it will be a long time until we can return. read more

Delicious Thai Takeout! I'm too claustrophobic for the tiny dine in experience but the dine out option is amazing. Everything I've tried has been fantastic and the service feels just as friendly as if I was sitting at a table. Also, if you've ever wondered how Long Grain's take out holds up after 3 days in the fridge? Completely edible & enjoyable. read more

Ok food but horribly slow. The waitress was rather ditzy. I placed a togo order (it was a noodle dish & soup) and was told it would be 25 mins. So I went back a half an hour later and the waitress said they "hadn't gotten to it yet and it would be another 45mins! And there were only 3 tables w/ people. I asked for a refund as I was traveling and had to catch a ferry, she balked at that and said it wasn't possible! Luckily I had a friend passing thru that I was meeting later and she was able to pick it up for me. The pork belly soup was so so. read more

Really great Asian food. Unlike many Thai restaurants, it was not overly sweet or greasy. Instead everything tasted fresh and healthy. Lot's of veggies in all the dishes. I can't wait to go back. read more

5 star reviews may be awarded a little too liberally. That having been said, Long Grain's 5 stars from this reviewer is a no brainer. Simply the best Thai I've had, including NYC and SF and one of the better all-around restaurant experiences I've had regardless of price. The place is small and always crowded, but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar, which was a great vantage point for all the culinary activity. Started with pork and seaweed dumplings in a paper thin wrapper and an excellent roasted eggplant salad with ground pork in a cilantro chili-lime dressing. The Chinese yellow noodles with tender roasted pork also included thinly sliced sausage and was an excellent milder foil to the more fiery beef panang curry, like a super tender beef Bourguignon with an incredibly complex sauce that was stunningly good and likely spoiled any future visits to local Thai places in my home state. Beware that the Yelp listing incorrectly states that there is a "full bar", but some items from the eclectic beer list went quite well with the meal (especially the Weyerbacher Verbotten). We had an entertaining chat with the great two servers/bartenders as they wound down from their shifts.....great night. read more

Really good! We ordered the special Thai Wings for an app & Chicken Pad Thai for our entrees. The wings were not greasy at all & had a really tasty & fresh sauce for dipping. The Pad Thai was delicious, I only wished there was a little less sauce, as I thought it was a bit too saturated. We walked in with no reservation & were seated. We weren't greeted right away, however, and weren't sure whether we were supposed to seat ourselves or be seated. The restaurant space is very small, and we were seated very close to other tables. While there, the phone rang a lot & probably 8-10 people came in to pick up take-out...Obviously a popular and tasty place! Next time I think I would call ahead for reservations (just in case because of the limited seating & popularity) or just order take out from there. Also, our bill was fairly cheap, compared to what we were expecting...About $38 for 1 app & 2 entrees. read more

I am sad...not because of the food, but I went there on a bus tour, which brought us to Camden (with lunch on your own) at 3:00, and we had until 4:30 to be back at the bus). The tour group had provided this link to Yelp so we could have an idea of what was available. After reading these great reviews and loving all good Asian foods anyway, I had my heart set on this, as the hours listed here say Sat 11:30 - 9:00. I got off the bus and made a bee-line straight for the restauant...only to see a CLOSED sign...contrary to what the hours listed here are, they actually close from 3-4:30 on Sat. The door hadn't been locked, so I went in, and up to the counter, and asked if there were any other Asian eateries in the downtown (there weren't). But from what I could see and smell of the foods while I was there, I give them a good review just for that. Hopefully I can get back there someday when they are open. read more

The food is delicious, and Ben, Hailey, and the rest of the bar stuff are beyond knowledgeable and welcoming. Long grain has been a staple for us every summer for years... since they had the original location on route 1 and it never disappoints!! I appreciate the fact that while you expect required reservations during the season, they are kind enough to call personally to confirm and were flexible and accommodating when we needed to cancel and push to the following evening. We tried to look at options we hadn't tried before so we grudgingly skipped the amazing wings and mussels that we already know and love, for the fried pork appetizer. It was good but not great... I mean what's not to love about fried pork, and that sauce...smoky, spicy, and stellar! Some pieces were like jerky and others had a bit of fatty chew. A solid app but in hindsight we kinda missed our old faves. We were steered away from the Kao soi as we were trying to avoid too much spice but we looked longingly at the beautiful curry noodles in broth at other tables. We were forewarned about the spice level and noticed two other tables struggling with theirs... one couple was downright sniffling with red noses and Kleenex to get through it!!! Not sure why this dish can't be toned down to accommodate spice preferences because I noticed other reviews say they couldn't take the heat, but it's disappointing you can't order something you'd like to try without it being a three alarm fire. Isn't it possible to use just a little LESS curry paste for those diners who don't want their heads to explode?? Most Thai restaurants happily adjust the level of spice and heat...I dunno just sayin...Having said that, the Pad Thai is the best I've ever had! Slightly tangy with the perfect level of sweetness and heat. A squeeze of lime and it's heavenly. We also tried the smoked trout fried rice which was delicious! Definitely get the fried egg on top, the velvety yolk is a beautiful contrast to the smoky fish. Portions were large, so even sharing 2 entrees for 3 diners was more than enough! We still took some home! Our bellies were full but we still "made room" to try the black sticky rice and bruleed coconut custard. It was warm and not cloyingly sweet. Delish! And we don't typically order desserts!! 10/10!! read more

The food is incredible, as almost everyone has written here. The spices are perfect and the produce fresh and crisp. The Vietnamese salad is not to be missed, nor is their amazing take on homemade wide noodles. Just delicious. However...the service is horrible. I went in on a Saturday and it was not overly busy. The two waitresses acted as if they would rather be anywhere else but working there. Zero personality. One of them had her son running in the restaurant and banging metal chopsticks on the counter. Are you serious?! Also, make sure there are at least two diners in your party or you have NO choice but the bar -- even when it is not busy. If you go in as a party of one, expect to be treated like you are bothering them. So, while the food is outstanding, I would choose to go to Portland's Asian food scene long before this place. Along with good food, you can get treated like the paying customer you are. Such a real shame because this place could easily be 5 stars! To end on a positive note, the adjacent Asian market is lovely. read more

The fresh noodles are amazing. They cater to those with allergies as well. I recommend reservations during tourist season. We would give 5 stars but when we tried to make reservations last time the host put us on "hold" while she spoke to her friend/coworker not on mute about her boyfriend.. then proceeded to chat with other coworkers before speaking to us. We were on hold for 5min or so an endured the entire thing. We would have hung up but we were heading to an appointment and didn't have time to call back. read more

There are many restaurants in Camden... but where do the locals continue to regularly get food?? LONG GRAIN! Why? Because it's so good. My favorite is Pad Ke Mao extra spicy, but there are so many good things on the menu. It's also super affordable for a dinner place and for the quality of food. eating in is great but takeout is the best!~~ (if you're in a large group or even a group of more than 2, DEFINITELY get a reservation, especially during tourist season and on weekends. or just do takeout.) read more

Family owned delicious and healthy foods. Warm friendly smiles from the owners that come directly to your table and ask how everything is. The restaurant is small, but worth the wait for a FRESH meal suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters. Just a block away from my studio, Villa Sati Pilates....Long Grain is my special treat once a week during lunch break!!! YUMMY..I love these folks! read more

Arguably the best Thai place in the Northeast and maybe beyond. Family run, and quaint. We stopped in for dinner though lunch service is also an option. Every dish was authentic, full of flavor, and delicious. Friendly servers in an unpretentious, casual, cozy environment. Highly recommended! read more

Really amazing, the inside was absolutely beautiful with the ambience however, I had gotten takeout. The takeout wasn't eaten right away and still tasted fantastic. It is definitely a little expensive for the portions however I am sure when dining in house it's a little different. read more
