Love me some Long John Silver, one of the few ones left in SD & it's connected to a KFC. I do miss the ones by themselves, seems their menu was bigger too but as long as I can still get some Long John's I'm ok with them being with KFC. Area is kind of sketchy, saw a couple sketchy customers but they do have a DT so you can go through there. Customer service was ok, they were pleasant & place was clean. Long John's can be expensive but food is always fresh & good. The home of the Hush Puppies, they make it right & the best. Love their Fried Fish & don't sleep on their chicken, their Chicken Planks are delicious. Make sure to mix their Tartar Sauce & ketchup together on your food, they have the best tartar sauce besides McDonald's & the good thing is their's are in packets. Tho I do live in Chula Vista I still would go out my way to come here because it's the closest one to me & I love me some Long John's Silver food. Veronica is a very personable person. I gave her the problem, and she immediately came up with a solution. She remind me of the old school approach of customer service. It have been several months since the mix up of my order. But she took the time to listen and not hurried me as I explain. I did not realized how much their delicious hush puppies were. But she assured me if I come back with the receipt. that the would honor my request. I come to this area on Friday before bible study. And the staff is always kind and courteous. So we don't have any LJS around us anymore. We always have to drive and we just happen to be visiting family here in SD. We drove 15 mins to get to this location. We went in & ordered snd had to wait 20 mins for the order which was fine. Staff was polite, restaurant was clean. It's a KFC/LJS location. We got our food, got home & yeah our family pack was fine, but the our (L6?) the fish & Shrimp for my daughter was ruined. Either bad hygiene & Sanitation, or the food they received was also ranted. A hair was fried into the batter of a shrimp tail which completely grossed my daughter out that she could've eat. So that was $54 wasted. You know they fried it together with our other food so cross contamination. We couldn't eat it and didn't bother eating after that. We spent almost an hour round trip to get the food. I kindly requested for unsweetened tea to be refilled, due to the machine being empty and the cashier worker told me she will tell someone to refill it immediately. I then reminded them a second time. Ended up finishing my entire meal to ask again about the refill, just for them to tell me they don't sell unsweetened tea, when it clearly says they do. I normally don't write reviews on big chain restaurants because they should be consistent. You go there knowing what to expect and you should get that great service or food. The other day I went Long Johns Silver because I was craving Fish and Chips. They were conveniently close so why not. It just started off bad. I got there and the cashier tells me the computer is updating. Ok fine I'll wait. 15 minutes later she finally asks ok how can I help you. Cool, I ask for the Fish and Shrimp combo. She then says oh we don't have any coleslaw. I was kinda bummed because that's the standard side I expect. Oh well, I end up getting some fries and corn. After waiting for food that is already cooked and just sitting in the food warmer I finally get my food. The fries are steak fries and not the normal thin fries. The plate was missing the hush puppies and the soda was watered down. I get it, the syrup bib needed to be replaced. It happens, but along with everything else. I was craving for some fried food and I thought to give this place a try as we don't have many of them left around. I used to live back East and they were everywhere but now I only found 2 locations in San Diego so far, and it fixed my hunger instantly, I tried both breaded and unbread fish, chicken, and shrimp, as I tried not overeating myself with oily carbs, and let me tell you their fish and shrimp aren't bad but the chicken would better go to KFC same building. KFC & Long John's came together and what a great idea because we can take care of those who don't want fish & shrimp( I know right, who wouldn't). We showed up kind of late as walk-ups after visiting Home Depot. The food was so good with that expected perfect crunchiness we love! We were able to pick KFC sides which is great cause I love their slaw and mashed potatoes & gravy...score! Strange combo, yes I know but perks of partnered takeout. The place was very clean, the service was great and the manager allowed us to eat inside even though we got there lady, that was great after a long day of work! That being said it was very cold inside so sitting outside would've been an option but there's no seating out there. Went to the drive thru and I was told that they sold the last batch for Long John Silver for the night. They are open for another hour and they don't want to cook what's on their menu?!?! My guess they just don't want to work. Fast food industry been in a major decline since I worked in it during the 90's. It will be a while before I go back to Long John Silver, if they are even still in business. The KFC/LJS located at 155 Marketplace Ave, San Diego, CA 92113 is Dangerous, I.e. they're serving undercooked seafood. I stopped at this location the week prior and ordered a large side of coleslaw. I went again today August 25, 2020 after shopping at Home Depot just after 6pm, I ordered the 8 piece LJS Family Meal, l then paid $26.93 too much, but was happy to feel that my bag of fish was hot, meaning that it was fresh, RIGHT? No! Once I got home, made myself a plate noticing that some pieces of fish were lighter and some were darker; I thought OH NO, (I hope that they hadn't mixed old precooked fish with newly cooked fish). I took a piece of each, 1 darker and one lighter colored pieces of fish, I then took a bite of fish, and it was literally like spitting out mashed runny potatoes, except that it wasn't mashed potatoes, it was fish batter. Both pieces were the same, but it looked like the darker pieces were previously cooked fish that was double dipped in batter, and still undercooked, along with the lighter colored fish.... I Called and called and called and called and called repeatedly, it said the User was busy. I then got in my car and drove back to that gross restaurant, there was one car at the window waiting for their order, so I drove up behind that SUV; not even stopping to explain why I was there, I explained what had been given to me as food, and asked for my money back, and was giving my money back without fuss, nor an apology. I will never ever ever eat at that place again, I give it a 1 star rating because there was no need for me to stress out, just don't order food there, it's kinda disgusting. read more

I've only been to a Long John Silver's once many years ago, so I figured I'd finally revisit them since I remembered they sold hush puppies (which I love). Went through the drive-thru, which wasn't busy at all and ordered a side of hush puppies (2 for $0.39) in addition to a side of mashed potatoes & an iced green tea. Employees were very friendly and patient, and my food/card processing was done quickly. Mashed potatoes were pretty good, while the iced green tea was just okay. Yarrrrrr, how I love thee LJS. This location fills the bill. It's clean and service is friendly. The food is made fast......and boy am I happy about that. I will eat anything on the menu. Is it because I grew up in the midwest and this was the only seafood I knew growing up? Is it the treasure chest meals loaded with chicken planks, fish and more, hushpuppies, tartar sauce, and don't forget the extra crunchies? I could go on for days how the tartar sauce is the best at LJS. I have yet to find a tartar sauce at ANY establishment that matches the taste here. Don't even get me started on the french fries because they are phenomenal. The batter at LJS is heavenly and if i could get that recipe I would be set for life. Tartar sauce, batter fried fish, rice and kimchi. That would be added to my home dinner rotation. I grew up with my Nana and Poppa taking me to Long John Silvers. This one is is 20 miles from my house. I go when I am having a rough day and want to feel better. I went today. Had a man take my order, I get to the window and pay. He asks if I want any sauce. I ask for Vinegar and Cocktail sauce. He tells me they are out of cocktail sauce. I was bummed because I only like to eat my fish with it. A lady bagged my order and goes to hand it to me. She says you just want Vinegar? I said Vinegar and Cocktail sauce. She says sure how many? I say two of each please. She puts them in my bag. I realize that the man originally that took my money completely lied to me about the cocktail sauce!!! Why lie to me? I love Long John Silvers Shrimp, I was upset when the location in Chula Vista just closed suddenly. But today I randomly stopped in , just wanted sharp and ended up getting piece of fish too. First the cashier was so nice , patient and welcoming. I didn't get her name, it was 5pm. But the other two ladies preparing food nearby seemed irritated, their attitude reeked. Lol. I've been craving LJS for a while and so I looked it up in San Diego where I now live. There are exactly 0.5 Long John Silver's restaurants in San Diego, the other half is a KFC. One of those places, yes! The next nearest LJS is located in Escondido, a little ways up the road. On their website they have a couple of coupons, one of which is a $5 off coupon For a family 8 piece meal. ($24.99). Comes with two large sides (Think KFC sides, since it's 50/50 LJS/KFC). Anyways, this particular location does not accept/honor/participate in website or app coupons therefore I had to pay full price. It felt a little "bait and switch'ish" as the address I received was from the same LJS app. The reason I received for not taking coupons was that it was a franchise location. They also don't provide a discount for military members or their family, also another strange thing not to participate in here in Navy/Marines filled sunny San Diego. Probably not the best business practice in this area, especially from such a margin rich business. Seems like this location is too far out of my way for repeat visits. The food was tasty, just the same as LJS used to be, no changes in food from location to location. It felt a little overpriced for the portion size, however. (See paragraph 1.)
