Disgusting place! I was craving LJS after not having it for around 20 years. This location was the closest to my house so naturally we came here. Walked in and immediately I was disappointed seeing that this LJS location is a joint restaurant with KFC. They didn't even have LJS sides. All the sides were KFC's sides. Anyways, I ordered and when searching for a place to sit I was grossed out. The walls were dirty with sauce splatters. The floors were dirty and sticky. I couldn't find a booth to sit in because the booth and tables were dirty. Finally, I wiped down a table myself and ate quickly just to get out of there. So gross, never again! read more

Sometimes you just want some fast seafood without paying the seafood prices, so naturally, the first thing that comes to mind is Long John Silvers, or Captain D's (for you East Coasters). So I finally find this one off Imperial Ave, because that's the closest and because amazingly, there are like only 3 in town... Firstly, service was bad. Lady in the front had an attitude and got my order wrong so I went back to correct it and she acted like I was bothering her... really? And I understand that you aren't going to get quality/fresh seafood at this joint but even that was so so! Worst service ever...ever! Ordered two combos got one and we were told to wait for the other. 15 minutes later we asked about the second combo, and the guy replied "oh shit." Then he said that he was on break! Told the manager that we wanted a refund on the second combo, and got nothing but resistance. Okay, seriously? Every time my fam and I go through the drive thru, something's wrong. One night, there's a fuck up with an order with all fish and no chicken and a lack of vinegar packets. Another night, I was treated to a lack of their yumtastic batter fried chicken planks but was offered KFC dark meat from their KFC menu. With no actual explanation as to how long they've been out or even a raincheck to fix it if I came back. I tried again and got the food I was after tonight but sadly, the chicken and fries were a bit too tough. It only got an extra star because it's right by Mount Hope Cemetery. People, you know you are royally fucked if your redeeming value is being next to a burial ground so get your shit together. Really, you'd do a lot better with the one by Parkway Plaza. I was feeling nestolgic about the crunch and taste of long john silvers mystery fish and chicken. This location is the only one near my home, so I figured...why not? I should have checked reviews first. The location was empty, and we saw only one person in the drive thru, but my order took 15 minutes. Other people came and went long before I saw food. My wife and I noticed we were sticking to the table we were sitting at, however...in an effort to find a clean table...we couldn't. This location is filthy. We were forced to take the most acceptably dirty table. When the food finally arrived it was very greasy. I understand it's deep fried but should fish sweat?? This restaurant lowered my expectations for restaurants a whole bar! I would rather eat my ex wife's cooking then go back here, and golly did she have some issues. It's a shame that there aren't more Long John Silver's around town...I absolutely love fish and there isn't enough fish specialty restaurants (with a fast food flair) around San Diego. I'm on a 30 Day Challenge to lose weight, but I did take one day off (Day 21) to splurge a little on some fish and LJS just so happen to be by one of the gym's I workout at. After doing 2 Turbo Kick Boxing classes and running 3 miles, I was starving so I ordered a 2 piece with fries, shrimp and hush puppies... Boy was my body craving this and it was delicious. I took my time and savored every moment of my fish & chips with shrimp and though I did cheat a little on my diet, I was in a way, listening to my body and my body wanted some fish. I haven't been to LJS in ages since there isn't one near my house anymore. Saturday evening and my friend and I decided our DVD watching would be enhanced by fried white meat and hushpuppies. I figured there must be an LJS somewhere in this city so we found it online and went there. The food is really pretty meh. Kind of greasy, kind of bland. Most of it was reasonably fresh, but the hushpuppies were almost stale. I am not at all picky but if the bill for two meals and a slice of pie out of a drive through is $16, I want it to at least satisfy. Frankly, it costs too much for food of this quality, I'm sure you can get better elsewhere for the same price or less. That's not the worst, though. When they handed us the bag, I checked inside and noticed that they had closed one of the boxes on a fish fillet! Instead of putting it all the way into the box, they just pushed the lid down on it. It was squashed and pulverized and the coating was spilling all over the bag, ruining our napkins. When we got this mess home and went to eat it, my friend realized her meal was supposed to come with cole slaw. She'd paid extra for it and didn't get it. Ya'll, this joint is in Mountain View. We came from Clairemont. You don't just turn back around from Clairemont to get a side of slaw that's waiting for you in Mountain View. That slaw has a long wait. I know there's only one LJS in San Diego city limits, but wherever you are, surely there's a neighborhood fish and chips joint better than this. read more

I think they were having a contest today for who could screw up an order the most and the person who took my order was the Ultimate Champion. I knew not to go here. I went through the drive-thru where Miss I-Hate-My-Job muttered something incoherently through the speaker and when I asked her what she'd said she was clearly irritated with my line of questioning. I ordered the shrimp combo that comes with hush puppies and a side and a drink. For my side I chose green beans and water for my drink. "Bottled water?" she asked. No, just a cup of water please. When I received my food (good thing I checked before I left the parking lot) I did indeed have shrimp (sans cocktail sauce, they didn't offer it and I didn't think to ask), with french fries and a coke. This location is a combo of a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Long John Silvers. Going in knowing it's a fast food joint and have lower expectations then this place is good. If you go in here thinking your getting food like grandma makes, then you will be dissappointed. This place in not that bad. I bought a combo with 2 fish,6 shrimp, hush puppies and 2 sides and a drink for less than 12 bucks. Food came out quick and hot. Food was not great but it was ok. The 2 sides were really good. All you can drink soda and it's a deal. Employee that helped me today was very nice. Minor cleanliness issues but not bad for dinner time. They also have a drive thru here. I ordered the whitefish sandwich combo today and promptly hated myself. While the service was quick and courteous, the fries were soggy, tasteless (no salt, even), and the worst-textured I can ever remember eating. I had to throw these out. The whitefish sandwich had sallow, translucent tartar sauce that was way too sweet; doughy and soggy batter, old-tasting fish, and promptly gave me a stomach ache. None of this was redeemed by the supposedly Hawaiian roll. I guess it was my fault I didn't throw the sandwich away, too. 9$ for the privilege of learning why LJS is going bankrupt! Still only three stars... Have had three visits since the last review in 2017. One has been really great, ordered (1) chicken plank and coleslaw. Imagine my surprise when I opened up my container and found two planks...but they were small and they would have been the equivalent of a full regular size plank. And they were on a bed of crispies. I was totally pleased that some real thought was placed into this order and would have given the extra star, but the subsequent trips were met with receiving a cold plank and my trip tonight was met with one piping hot piece of fish. I ordered one chicken plank! I get a 20 minutes lunch break late at night so it's a quick protein. But I can't eat fish. And imagine my shock when I open up the container and not looking but take a bite and get fish...no lunch tonight. So, I took two stars away for that. While it should have left this as a two star rating, I just can't bring myself to take away that other star. I had to go to the bank to deposit a rent check... I should have known things were not going to get better... How best to describe the ordeal??? Getting behind a person who can't decide what they want... for 4 people. Seeing that same person look surprised when they have to pay for the order. Being behind the next person who has been behind the first person and this one has been staring at the menu and then can't make up their mind either about what to have (ok, not the restauran'ts fault). So, what is the restaurant's fault??? Lunchtime..."we're out of fries" WOW, guess that messes up the special proclaimed on the big poster for fish and fries. Good thing the place is also a KFC, so I can get green beans... they were good as was the coleslaw. The fish, however, is a different matter. The combination of frying their triangular fish (where does that come from) in the same oil as the chicken is not a good thing. My eyes are seeing what is supposed to be fish and the brain is processing the taste of chicken. The "shrimp," well, let's say that if I had not seen the tail with my own eyes, I NEVER would have identified the taste as that of shrimp. The taste was of something hot, gummy and unidentifiable. No tarter sauce, no lemons, (hot peppers available though) no napkins, no salt or pepper... oh you get the point. LJS is another place I will cross off my list of places to go... and I'm talking about places to go when you DON'T care about quality and you are just getting something so you don't pass out from hunger... OH, I forgot the clams... ummm, burned to a crisp. I mean sitting there on the tray browner than I am. And don't even try going to the website to complain, if you can find how to contact them, the odds of getting an answer or any kind of satisfaction is slim at best. Hmm...three stars for the KFC side, but one star for the LJS side. Having experienced acceptable service at the Santee and San Marcos LJS, I finally decided to give the Imperial Avenue location a try, and boy I wish I didn't try. I don't know if I came at a bad time, but everything I got from the LJS part of the menu was horrible. The fish and chicken were overbattered, and the fries were not fresh. Surprisingly, I found the hush puppies to be okay, and at least they didn't cost 5 something dollars. I also gave the 99 cent fish taco a try and it wasn't too bad...basically a fish snack wrap is what came to mind. I could forgive the workers for omitting stuff from the order, and I kindly explained to them the situation, and no apology was given. I'm also unsure if the soda fountain is supposed to be sticky, but having the drain for the fountain also makes for an uncomfortable situation. I was also pissed off that the condiment packets were sticky. Don't they check this stuff? Anyways, if it weren't for the halfway decent KFC food and their 5 dollar combos, this place would've definitely received only 1 star. When I get in the mood for some greasy fish and chips this is my go to place. I have to admit, there are not too many drive thrus that offer this so I'm quite limited in my selections. Anyway.....I went there yesterday and ordered 2 L4's, the two piece fish that comes with two sides. The girl taking the order asked me what kind of drink I wanted with the first one. I got confused because the L4 doesn't come with a drink. I said I ordered the L4 and she argued that I ordered the L9 that came with a drink and that when I was ready, to continue to order. (My partner that was with me said I clearly ordered the L4) I said I was ready and went ahead and continued my order. When I got to the window she took my money and closed the window . I could see my order sitting on the counter and apparently she found something was more important than handing me my order so she disappeared. She came back with a handful of condiment packets and threw them in the bag. She handed me my bag and slammed the window. I got home to find that the dozen packets she had thrown in were tarter sauce and no cocktail sauce. I admit I should have asked for cocktail sauce but I assumed that half of the handful she tossed in the bag would have had some in it. There were no utensils either. What was I supposed to eat my cole slaw with, my hand? Or was I supposed to pour it directly into my mouth from the container. No napkins were provided either. Not a good sign when you have a box of greasy fish sitting in your lap. The only thing I can think of is that this "customer service representative" was used to working the counter where everything is in the dining room versus happily asking the customer if they would like any sauces and providing the basic utensils and napkins. I don't understand how some of these people get and keep jobs with their nasty attitude. Who interviews these individuals and what are the requirements of employment? I also wonder where management is at these places or is this the way the new generation of uneducated services workers treat the people who pay their bills by patronizing their establishments? I guess they don't see the connection. And with that attitude, they'll retire from there. They all complain about their wages but you need to be pleasant when dealing with your customer not like you're doing me a favor by providing me with what I'm paying for. read more
