The guy let me know there was no charge for those. He asked if I wanted sauce. I said KFC sauce and tarter sauce. He brought my order. No DP. I went in and it was sitting back by the drive thru window. I drove home anticipating enjoying my meal. No crispy bits at all. No tarter sauce. Only 2 shrimp. And my chicken plank is about 5 inches long. This food had been sitting under a heat lamp WAY too long! I won't waste my money on this location again. The mix tasted old...wasn't fresh...highly onion flavored. I ordered a side of three shrimp. Don't see it in the basket, so I told the lady at the counter....she said "yes, you got it, I packed it myself" (place wasn't busy, so I bet she did). Very frustrated. LJS is a staple of my childhood. I'm used to crispy fried fish, shrimp, and clams with a light golden crust and white flaky fish inside. However. I ordered 1 fish 4 shrimp and a side of clams. I got 4 clams and no fish. I went back to the drive thru window and no one would come to the window. I rarely give 1 star ratings as I try to find something positive in a business. Not in this case. I rolled up to the drive thru at around 2pm this Wednesday and ordered the fish and shrimp platter (2 fish and 6 shrimp with fries $8.50) and 12 hushpuppies ($3.95). Noone in line so I pulled up and paid. I was immediately handed my order (a whopping 45 seconds from the time I ordered!) I drove about a mile and fished out a fry and as suspected (cold and greasy) Same for the fish and shrimp! The hushpuppies felt warm but not freshly fried (re-fried) as the texture was not right and it was extremely oily. When I got home, there was NO TARTAR SAUCE OR COCKTAIL SAUCE! There is a combination Long John Silver's / A&W Root Beer at the SE corner of I-45 North and West Road. I strongly urge you to avoid this God-awful place at all costs. First of all, the place is filthy. The windows are have a thick coat of grime that looks like it was years in the making. Everything inside is either sticky and/or encased in a thick film of visible neglect. Secondly, it's a Long John Silver's. I've only been to a Long John Silver's twice before in my life. The first time, I thought the food was revolting. The second time, I tried a different Long John Silver's thinking that maybe my first experience at the other location was not representative of the Long John Silver's chain. As soon as I stepped inside, saw the place and smelled the food, I turned around and left. It was every bit as abhorrent as the first Long John Silver's I had tried years before. So I didn't come to this Long John Silver's for their seafood. I'm not that stupid. I came here because it doubles as an A&W Root Beer joint and I wanted to introduce my little boy to the joys of the whole A&W Root Beer float experience I remembered from the days of my youth. I had reservations about the neighborhood and, upon entering the establishment, about the astounding dinginess of the restaurant. But, hoping to enjoy an A&W Root Beer float with my son, we went to the counter and waited ... ... and waited ... and waited ... and waited (even though we were the only people in line). Finally a young lady took our orders. She tried valiantly to prepare two root beer floats but eventually returned empty handed and inquired if we would like to order something else. It turned out, this A&W Root Beer shop was fresh out of root beer! I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. The manager hadn't bothered to train the staff or to clean the windows or the inside of the restaurant, so why bother keeping any root beer in stock? I don't know whether they have A&W Root Beer restaurants in Ethiopia, but if they do, I'll bet they're much cleaner and better run than this one! So far as I have been able to determine, this is the last A&W Root Beer location in Houston.
