    liver and onions
    Lainey N.

The food was pretty good. The fried fish, liver and onions, and chicken fried chicken are our family's go tos. The prices were very affordable. My family enjoyed our lunch very much. We love the variety of choices. The service is always so nice. The restaurant is very family friendly and comforting. We love going here.

The food? Dependably delicious. What makes Luby's special is how it treats everyday dining like an occasion. Service is quick, kind, and unpretentious, exactly what a cafeteria should be, and harder to find than you'd think. If you crave classic comfort without shortcuts, Luby's delivers consistently, generously, and with Texas sized heart.

This Luby's is worse than the last time. My sister and I got liver and onions and both got sick. I talked to her this afternoon and asked if you got sick. She said she thought it was in mind. It wasn't. They were packed, the roast was "null". Never a roast so small in my life. Cabbage is always good, and sweet potatoes. The roll was stale or overcooked a bit too long. I passed on dessert, but hubs got Carrot Cake and Sis and BIL got Coconut Cream Pie. The bottom was sour, top was good. I have bad habit of not looking at past reviews and I was got remember from now on. Service was good at the table.

This location is big and spacious and clean. I was literally asking my boyfriend to take me here to satisfy my liver and onions craving and he FINALLY caved after two weeks. He hates it and thinks it's gross lol. Too bad,so sad,Mr. Man! Anyways, the portion sizes are too big,and I shouldn't have eaten that much. I should have saved it for lunch the next day at work, but liver and onions at Luby's is literally the best. I forgot the name of our server, but he was very friendly and kind of a happy go lucky type of guy. Although the boyfriend and I were happy to talk to him,we both felt like he was telling tall tales and it was annoying and off putting. But he kept our drinks refilled and everything was fine. My boyfriend ended up getting that square fish with the almonds, the cabbage and fried okra. Unfortunately, the boyfriend didn't like his food nearly as much as I liked mine. He said his almond fish was a little cold and chewy and the best thing he had on his plate were the okras because the cabbage was bland? For dessert I had a carrot cake. Tbh,I felt the carrot cake could have been fresher. It kind of tasted stale...but nothing like a pad of bjtter and a few seconds in the microwave couldnt fix! For my boyfriends dessert he had like, some kind of cheesecake, but it was fried i think? It looked like a cannoli, but he loved that,as well, just not the fish!

You can choose to sit either inside or outside. We went with the Houston Restaurant week menu which features some of their most popular dishes. For the appetizer, we tried the sautéed calamari and gumbo. The calamari had a nice creamy garlic sauce which paired well the sautéed bell pepper, onions, and tender calamari. Their gumbo is solid, not too spicy and had nicely cooked rice and a mix of toppings. The rice had a good bite and absorbed the flavor from the gumbo well. I would recommend the sautéed calamari. For entrees, we ordered the wild caught king clip and steak Diane. The very buttery king clip comes with sautéed spinach and is basted in a creamy, slightly lemony sauce which compliments both elements of the dish. The kingclip is garnished with micro greens and comes with an extra lemon for additional acidity, but I felt that it wasn't needed. The steak Diane had a medium cook and was soooo tender to the bite. I would recommend both, but partial towards the king clip if you want to try something unique! Lastly for dessert, I ordered the passion fruit crème brûlée which had such a unique flavor profile! The tartness of the passion fruit goes surprisingly well with the warm vanilla custard. The texture of the creme brûlée toasted sugar top was perfect as well and added a really nice crunch to every bite. My friend ordered their sticky toffee pudding, which was arguably the best one I've had yet. The toffee syrup is incredibly rich and adds a nice caramelized flavor to the ice cream and moist cake base. It's garnished with bits of sugary crumble and fruit. You really can't go wrong with either, but if I had to pick, their sticky toffee pudding is a must try. All in all, such a fun and intimate dining experience!

We were seated in a booth that felt quite cramped for a business meeting. Next time, we'd likely request a more open, well-lit table. We ordered several dishes, but the Chilean sea bass was disappointing. It was dry, lacked the buttery texture it's known for, and was quite bland. We also requested a side of hot sauce, but that request was overlooked. To end the meal, we planned to order coffee and toffee instead of dessert. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, we were told the coffee machine had broken. Unfortunately, by then the server seemed eager to wrap things up and didn't really give us the opportunity to consider any other after-meal options. Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and we can see why it's popular, but the food execution and service fell short of our expectations, especially for a business lunch. We hope these issues were just an off day, as we'd like to give it another chance.

This pancake was bigger than my face, and was one of the best I've had in a long time. It was light and fluffy, and had a nice crisp to the top of it as well. Smothered in melted butter and syrup, every bite was so good. I also had some of their breakfast sausage, which was soooo good, and great to get a two bite in one with the pancake and sausage together!!! I also opted to get the chicken avocado club. The bread was toasted beautifully, there was lots of bread with the meal, so I ended up taking out the middle bread piece. The bacon was perfectly crispy, chicken grilled nicely, the only thing I wanted more of was avocado, didn't seem to be on 2 of my 4 slices. The fries were super hot, fresh, and crispy. Our service was really great, such a sweet woman that took care of us and also checked on us often. This was my first visit ever coming to one of these, and really enjoyed it and the amount of options available at a very reasonable price. I will definitely be returning!

Hostess pointed to an area and said to help myself to a table. It took her 10 mins to bring me a menu. 15 mins after that, my server sat at the counter then looked surprised that I was even here and took my order. It took 30 mins for pot roast and onion rings. Another server dropped off my meal 30+ mins ago and nobody has come back to check up on me. I wonder how long it will take to get the check. The food is pretty average (I am from NJ so I know what diner food should be like) The service might be the worst ever! I have had better service at Burger King. Nice size, generous amount of toppings (eggs, tomatoes, onions) such that I had toppings in every bite with my lettuce. The entire salad, dusted with a cajun seasoning, was a nice touch. Food was served in a metal plate with plasticware & plastic cups. (I'm sure the 'plastic' is helpful for managing the outside dining.) Chef Dee came out to check on us. The self-service fountain drink area smelled strongly of mildew or old sponges, and the counter was very sticky and wet. I understand a mess during a lunch rush, but the lingering odor was a big turn off. I ordered a White Chicken Parm, and the chicken was unpleasantly rubbery in some areas- I regretfully had to spit out a piece, which I genuinely try not to do out of respect. Pasta was also too salty for my taste. The menu description also lists broccolini, but the reality was more of regular broccoli that was also soft to the point of being slightly mushy. I'm hoping the best for this restaurant, and also hope that this may have been an off day since there are recent good reviews; but in the meantime, I'll be exploring other Vintage Park options for lunch. - Ambiance: 2/5 - Food: 2/5 - Service: 4/5

The menu was not very big so it made me think that they would be really good at what they made. That logic proved right. I started with an appetizer of humus and my son ordered the cheese pizza. At first, I wasn't impressed with his pizza based on looks -- then I tasted it. The pizza was really good. The humus was also really solid. For my main, I ordered a burger. I think I was so hungry that I forgot to snap a pic of it. Regardless, it also was a really good burger. The restaurant is an order from the counter concept and then take a seat.
