We were out for some errands and were in between two appointments. It was nearly lunch, so we decided to go to this Longhorn as we had never tried it. We have been to 4 or 5 Longhorn Cafes and found the food to be completely dependent on whoever is doing the cooking. Our favorite, on Blanco is very good but some of the others leave a lot to be desired. This particular location is wide open with plenty of spacing between the tables. We showed up for an early lunch, and this place was nearly empty. However, by the time we left. it was packed. We placed our orders and found a table by the window. It didn't take long for our food to be ready. The food was hot and fresh off the stove, and we started to eat. I tried an onion ring and tasted that great taste that makes them the best in town. Then I took a bite of my burger. It was ok, not bad, but not like their store on Blanco. I guess I would classify it as bland. Will I return? Finally got around to trying this place after driving by it a thousand times! Its a popular place, but there's plenty of parking. Nice homey atmosphere, the service was friendly enough though it's limited (you have to pick up your own food and bus your own table). Onion rings were crispy, burger was decent. Really nothing to set this location aside from the dozens of other joints in this price point; I'm not knocking it, it's exactly average! Worth a stop if you're in the area, especially if you're in the mood for classic Texan cuisine like a chicken-fried steak. Go to any other location in SA Use to come here often with my family but the past few months the service level has not been great. The manager will lock the door before closing hours, see picture with time stamp, and there is always dirty tables everywhere. The manager will turn off the lights at the order counter area 30 mins prior to closing which makes for a poorly lit dining area. Food has always been good other than uncooked fries if you go late. Girl with the pink hair giving attitude after we would tip when ordering (no wait staff, you order, get your drink yourself and pick up yourself when they call your name), and I would then tip the cooks extra. SORRY no more , after attitude and getting-cold fries and smaller portions of fish on the fried fish sandwich along with it being smashed (the bun),and the prices being charged more than the printed sheets sitting on the counter (and being told it was a typo with no refund, we are done at this location. We ordered on their website this evening only to discover, by accident, that one of our main orders was canceled and a refund is due in 3-5 business days. Luckily, I was online checking my email account for something else, otherwise it would have made for an upset (hangry husband) customer discovering at pick up time, that only three out of four meals were available. A phone call informing us of the issue would have been ideal and appreciated. Most of their items are not available on their "website" however my husband discovered while speaking with the Hausman location that they did have one of the items available that isn't on their website. Upon coming home with our order, we realized that we did not receive the drinks that our daughters' added on their orders and were paid for. When calling to request a refund, I was informed that it was impossible as DoorDash operates their website. We will see if we really receive the refund for the canceled order in 3-5 business days. Food wasn't great, customer service lacks and personally, I don't plan to return anytime soon to this location. Orders should be called in rather than using their bogus website and of course, making sure that you receive your entire order before leaving their location is strongly advised. read more

It was a nice and quiet lunch I had with a friend. The people were nice and patient with me when I took a while to figure out what I want to eat. Longhorn Cafe has been in San Antonio for a long time. They have, I believe, four locations and the one I visited was on Hausman Rd. The original, on Blanco Rd. is a typical hole in the wall place with surpisingly good food. They sell some of the juiciest, tastiest hamburgers and fries in San Antonio. Tried this restaurant out. I'm glad I did. It has a friendly homey atmosphere. All the folks there are very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the chicken steak with real mashed potatoes smothered with cream gravy and a side of green beans. The steak was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The mashed potatoes were just like my mother used to make when I was a kid. Plus the strawberry shake isn't to bad either. Definitely a return visit is in the future. Brand new location of this local favorite in the spot that the short lived Lost Cajun recently occupied on Hausman Road. They're famous for their JUICY burgers with fresh toppings on them. Longhorn Cafe is one of my top three burger joints in town and I've never had a bad experience at the other locations. So if you've been waiting for one to open in your neck of the woods and have never been to Longhorn Cafe, get out here and check it out! The only thing I've never been a fan of are their onion rings or their fries, so I ALWAYs opt for the tater tots. In addition to their delicious burgers, they have chicken fried steak, a huge fish sandwich, triple decker club sandwich, chicken options, and even a couple of salads to choose from. This location is extremely noisy inside, just as its predecessor, The Lost Cajun was. Concrete floors and no acoustical ceiling tiles (it's a wide open metal ceiling) are what makes it loud. I didn't know that this restaurant had opened this location but coworkers chose this spot to have this month's birthday lunch. Most everyone had a version of the burger here from the Big Juicy to ones with bacon. I was curious to try their garden burger and I made it a combo with sweet potato fries and unsweetened iced tea. My garden burger was very good and crunchy and the sweet potato fries were good. Most everyone enjoyed their meal and some even started off with the fried pickles. My manager did order the Big Juicy and unfortunately, it was on the dry side and not juicy. For that, I'm giving the 4 stars. This would be a tough option for my husband since he eats on the heart-healthy side. read more

I've been coming to Longhorn Cafe since they opened the original on Blanco. Sadly the quality has gone down quite a bit. On our recent visit for lunch I had the grilled chicken salad and my husband had "the horn". We've both had these meals many times before. My husband enjoyed the hamburger steak but his green beans were rubbery and over cooked. The grilled chicken is always good but the salad itself has gotten significantly smaller and the lettuce was wilted, slimy, and mushy. The last few times we have gone the quality of the food and portion sizes have gone down. I totally understand inflation and supply shortages but I'd rather pay more for a fresh salad than eat slimy lettuce. A few months ago I had the chicken fried chicken for lunch. The oil they fried it in was old, there's a distinctive flavor that once you've tasted it you know they need to change the oil in the fryer. It was also saturated in grease, like when you cut into it oil squirts out. The breading was very dark. I peeled the breading off to eat it which helped. The service is always good and they clear tables quickly. I'm sure we will be back eventually and I'll order something different. Came in for lunch to try the newest Longhorn location which is close to my work office and I'm glad I did. I was a little bit worried at first based on some past reviews but it seems to me that after my meal they have worked out the kinks. I placed my order at the counter, a jalapeno cheese burger with a side of onion rings and a iced tea. It took about ten minutes for my order to be ready for pickup at the window. The burger was a good size and came fully loaded: mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, cheese and jalapenos. The bun was toasted and the beef patty (1/4 lb patty I'm assuming) was cooked just right with a nice char on the outside but juicy on the inside. Each bite was bliss. The onion rings were also very good. They came out a nice golden brown and crispy with no excess oil. The tea was strong and tasted freshly brewed. Overall, this was a really good burger and rings at a good price. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the staff was friendly. It seems that this Longhorn location is now putting our food at the level of the original on Blanco. read more

Tried this place for the first time with the family and it exceeded our expectations. The young lady taking our order explained the menu and combo specials could be modified to burger we liked. Nice! We placed our order and overall a good price for the amount and size of burgers. The burgers were sooooooo delicious as were the sides. The onion rings were phenomenal, tots were crispy and good and our son ordered the Mac n cheese and he said it was creamy and very good. I was very impressed with the 3 cooks putting our food together. They were knocking out quite a bit of orders but taking their time to make sure everything was perfect.
