You order on your phone , so what little interaction you have with the staff they are friendly. More space outside than in. An indoor and outdoor bar with some TVs. But what gets them the 5 stars is the food and the sauces. The whole hog pulled pork tastes good without any sauce on it. The true test of a BBQ place. Too bad they don't have a 2 meat option or I would have tried the brisket too. Well, along with the tasty pulled pork, all the sauces tasted good too. And I've never said that. The wait is over now that Longleaf Swine has opened up their bricks and morter on Edenton Street! Located in the corner lot that used to be the Oakwood Cafe (you will be missed), the building was torn down and a brand new build for a modern barbeque joint commenced. Over the course of a year, the space got built out with counter service and bar inside, a large covered patio and second bar outside. The restaurant is pretty new but right now they are serving up whole-hog barbeque, brisket, ribs and smoked chicken. From what I understand, they will pivot toward smashburgers for dinner and I'm assuming, since they can run out of smoked meats for the day. My first visit was solid but a bit confusing, order online at ToastTab for table service and then your food is brought out to you. For takeout orders, go to a bartender. My food runner could not bring me my beer and I wasn't sure where to get my beer. And I had no details on my order (by email) so I couldn't remember which beer I ordered. The food at Longleaf is solid, I'll need a couple of more visits to decide where they fit in the Triangle barbeque landscape. With BBQ Lab opening in North Hills, we've now got some great options in the area for smoked eats. But congrats to Longleaf on the long trip to getting its space built out during the pandemic. This was SO GOOD. The food here is to die for. The brisket sandwich had the crispiest pickles and the meat was so juicy. The sides were amazing and really fresh. They also had 4 different kinds of BBQ sauces to try. I'd go here again tonight. I came here with family and we ordered a bunch of things family style. I'll start by saying most of the seating is outdoors (and covered), but there is some indoor seating as well. To order, you scan the QR code on the table and basically order via your phone instead of someone taking your order. For a big group, this can be more time-consuming, but that's how it is. In the future, especially in a bigger group, I would probably order online before heading over there, and then if I wanted to eat there, grab a table and eat my "to go" order there. The reason I mentioned that is because our order came out very slowly (it was busy and we had a big order, but there were some people who got there around the same time as us that got their orders a lot quicker), and somehow they missed a dish as well (which they ended up not charging us for). In terms of the food, their side dishes were unique and mostly good. My favorite was the Pimento Mac & Cheese, which was creamy and flavorful - the pimento was not too spicy so my kids enjoyed it too. The French Fries were also pretty solid in terms of crispiness and flavor. The rest of the sides we tried - Slaw, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, and Esquites - all had their unique twists, and were decent. We all shared half a pound of pulled pork BBQ and Pork Spare Ribs. The BBQ was cold by the time it came out to us, but we were so hungry that we didn't want to have to wait for them to bring us a hot tray. The ribs were a little too crusty and burnt on the exterior for my preference, but the inside was tender. I also tried some of their brisket melt sandwich, and the meat had decent (but again, a bit too burnt on the crust) flavor and smokiness but was a little dry. For the fact that you have to mostly serve yourself (we had to get our own drinks, go in to ask for extra silverware, order via our phones), the price point isn't really worth it, in my opinion. I was really disappointed in this place especially after reading all the positive reviews. Maybe I went too late in the day, or a bad night? Regardless the food was terrible! So a place that calls itself a barbecue restaurant should have good barbecue, so that's what I ordered. What I got was completely dried out and had absolutely no smoke flavor at all. Unfortunately, I have to remove Longleaf Swine from one of my top selections for barbecue in the Raleigh area. Today was my 6th visit. Up until today's visit, food, quality, and service have been good, but not great. Today the food quality was remarkably low and the service was nonexistent. We could not track down a waiter to help utensils or other questions about the menu, etc. The baked beans were severely undercooked, the pulled pork lacked any substantial flavor and the brisket was mediocre and dry. There was a menu item special that was not shared at the table or the Toast ordering app and only seen after we went inside to fill our drinks. The location and outdoor seating are fantastic, but with the food quality declining as much as it has, we will not be giving Longleaf anymore business. read more

My first trip to Longleaf Swine was super solid, with thumbs-up across the board. Pulled pork with vinegar sauce was probably the best bite I had. Brisket and ribs both get a B+ from me. We went for lunch on a sunny Saturday and sat outside. Ordered through a QR code, which felt a little impersonal for BBQ, but ultimately the food came out promptly and they got our big order right. I'll definitely come back on a low-key weeknight to compare the dinner menu and more intimate experience. At the risk of sounding basic, the French fries were a must-order side, especially because of their amazing malt vinegar aioli sauce. Mac and cheese was up there, too. The whole-hog BBQ seemed to be their bread and butter to me. Juicy, subtle smoke, nice mix of textures and some great sauces on the table to accent it. My husband had brisket platter. He enjoyed the brisket but the baked beans were under seasoned and the coleslaw was large tasteless hunks in watery mayonnaise. Given all the high star ratings, I'm guessing that Raleigh is, surprisingly, not a barbeque town. This place is such a cool space and so hyped but man, the meat just sucked. I was so excited to get some pulled pork, but the meat was dry. Even after dousing it in half a bottle of the awesome vinegar - it was like eating fiberglass. The brisket was surprising good. Very passable brisket. But I expected a place with swine in the name, in Carolina, to have great pork. Guess not. Now the smash burger is amazing. As are the side dishes. I would come back for the pimento Mac n cheese. As someone has been to over 150 BBQ joints - the sweet potatoes with goat cheese are a top 5 BBQ side in America! Fries are good I would come back but no way in hell would I order that dry-ass pork. Probably best to stick to a burger or maybe a brisket sandwich. The sauce lineup gets a solid B+. Great vinegar. Always impressed by their food and their service. We had a party catered by the restaurant a few months back and we finally got to come and dine in. We had the ribs, pulled pork, brisket melt, brisket sandwich, esquites, fried sweet potato, and cornbread. I love how tender and flavorful the ribs were. I enjoyed all the sauces they had to offer and they all had their own quality I can't pick a favorite. I'm usually biased to the vinegar sauce but I also liked the Carolina gold a lot. I stopped in for a quick take out lunch. The place was packed, which isn't unusual in downtown Raleigh for the new kid on the block. But I think this place has staying power. I went after doing some work downtown. I ordered the half chicken with slaw and hush puppies. They didn't have any baked beans that day unfortunately. The chicken and golden colored bbq sauce was solid. You can taste the smoke but it's not overpowering. The slaw was ok. Not what I'm used to I guess. I'll be back to try the pork. read more
