We finally made it to LongLeaf Swine, they just celebrated their 1 year anniversary in their brick and mortar location. Hands down they have the best sides of any Que restaurant in Raleigh. For sides we had the potato salad, which had a perfect amount of dill, the roasted/deep-fried, sweet, potatoes are now a favorite of mine. We also had the pimento Mac and cheese which we have enjoyed before when they were featured at Wye Hill. The collards had a vinegar base, which was unique tasting and Esquites (corn) side had a little spice and was a hit. The Collard Green Melt Sandwich has just topped my favorite sandwich list!!! My dining partner had the pulled pork sandwich which was served on a union special bun. They have a well stocked bar, especially for a bourbon drinker like me. After driving by and seeing the super cool outdoor patio I wanted to give Longleaf a try. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our visit. You have to order via your phone and they have food runners. The app they used does not give you the opportunity to make comments or requests. I like juicy brisket. I wanted to ask for the juicy, fatty stuff, but could not. For $17 you get 4 slices of brisket and nothing else. Zero. Not a slice of bread even. I got two juicy pieces and two tough as leather pieces. Sides are extra, so this place is expensive. My husband got the ribs, said they were average. Their app is messed up and if you order a pound of ribs it will also double your sides. When I went inside inquire I was told that this always happens in their app, so if your bill looks extra high pull up the order details as you don't get to confirm your order is correct before hitting submit. Terrible system. The fries were the best part of the meal, hot and very good. Both the brisket and ribs came delivered to the table oddly cold. After self servicing our drinks and only having food runners the app suggests a 15%, 20%, or 25% tip. It was a bad experience all around. read more

Best BBQ in Raleigh, hands down. They source locally, which is very important to me I got the bbq sandwich and collard greens and my boyfriend got the smash burger and pimento Mac. The pork was perfectly cooked and the greens were as well. I only had a few bites of the Mac but it tasted wonderful, I loved the little crunchies on top. The sauces they have are really delicious. Wanted to love this place so bad. Unfortunately, our experience was mid, at best. Took 45 minutes to get our food (while tables arriving after us had gotten theirs.) We've both worked in restaurants so we're pretty easygoing, knowing how mistakes happen. The fries were really good. The BLT with extra bacon barely had any bacon on it and the brisket sandwich was dry. There was no sauce, ketchup or other condiments delivered to our table. I'm of two minds using a QR code exclusively. We pré-tipped 20% but had no one looking out for us or checking on us. Too many other good places in Raleigh so no need to go back. read more

The Good: food is fantastic and the portion sizes are good. One young lady on the line was extremely polite and helpful. The Bad: parking is nonexistent unless you want to risk getting towed while parking in the USPS lot, per their sign. They don't "do" call in orders or online orders. Encountered only one friendly worker while there and it wasn't like they were busy. They handed me a to-go cup with Brunswick stew with just a plastic lid on it and not even in a bag. When I went to the bar to grab a couple of sauces for the sandwiches (tangy and gold were both great sauces), I saw a roll of blue food prep tape and asked for a strip to secure the lid. Bartender seemed annoyed by the request...maybe I interrupted his conversation I wasn't aware of? One guy eating at the bar and two tables outside around noon. Ordered two sandwiches, each with a side, and a cup of Brunswick stew...no drinks @ $49 including tip. All said and done, it's a hipster bbq place that treats you like they're doing you a favor by serving you. If Sam Jones was closer, I'd go there, but this place is in my neighborhood so I'll probably give it another shot. read more

Wowwww this place wasn't even on my radar and just blew me away. My smoked chicken and burnt ends (Sunday only) were spot-on with a side of slaw. I tried my friend's kale grilled cheese(?) and pimento Mac and cheese and I'll be back sooooon for both. Mac and cheese is deceptively hard to get right, IMO, and they nailed it. I'm not even sure what the sandwich was, other than delicious. Even the bathroom is thoughtfully appointed with mints, toothpicks, and tampons. Classy touch. Whole hog pork was flavorful, capped by apple slaw that didn't overpower the meaty main attraction. After a tour of the Executive Mansion gardens, I joined a group of friends for lunch here. My pulled pork sandwich, fries and collard greens were excellent, as well as the great selection of sauces. My favorite was the "tangy" sauce. But there's something more that speaks volumes about Longleaf Swine. Though it is a very casual restaurant, offering dining both inside and out, they show a lot of class. The outside patio is well shaded; they provide fresh, cold water for their customers and the restrooms are clean and well appointed. Thank you for a great experience. read more

The ribs looked terrible. My husband and grandson both had them. There was no meat on them just fat. I had the brisket sandwich and my daughter had the smash burger. Two of us had Mac n cheese. We tried all the sauces which weren't great but not bad tasting. ALL of us got sick from the meal even though we ate different things on the menu. I won't be going back. Love love love! My boyfriend and I found them at Foundation Bar on a Sunday afternoon (they are there every Sunday starting at 4pm). We got their pimento cheese burger, elote chowder and whiskey baked beans. Literally some of the best bbq I've had in a really long time, round of applause for because their food is amazing! The picture attached to this post is the smash burger, made up of two patties, caramelized onions, American cheese and pickles. The burger was so amazing I could have easily eaten two more no problem. The whiskey baked beans and elote chowder were finger licking good. I'm excited to try more of their food once I come back to Foundation. They also have a food truck that you can follow around if you do not make out to the bar. Save your $ for better food and service. Way over priced, small portions, no sides included food. If you are expecting the food taste to be good- find somewhere else. Things tried- all were not good or meh: Mac and cheese (poor flavor, texture and cold), baked beans (bland, bushes in a can are better), BLT (fine but not amazing), banana pudding (AWFUL- texture is grainy, flavor is nasty), chocolate pie (tiny and not good), pulled pork sandwich (dry and needed sauce- all of which were not flavorful), brisket (small portion and certainly had better), quarter chicken (small and dry), collards (coworker said they were good), fries (co worker said they were good). The vibe is cool. I like order on the app- HOWEVER- don't tip as you won't have a waiter. They just have runners. You have to get your own fountain drink and no one will check in on you. So if you don't tip at McDonalds for their 'hand you the food' service, you shouldn't tip here. Pass and try a much better BBQ spot in Knightdale if you want to spend $25+ on lunch for 1 person. read more

Tasty BBQ food truck! My only negative was that the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. I tried the pulled pork and the ribs, both I would get again. The meat was tender and flavorful with both items. My favorite side was their Mexican street corn, I surprisingly didn't love the mac and cheese. The cheeses used just weren't my favorite. The burger looks amazing so hopefully I get a chance to try that out next time. We had the brisket, French fries and potato salad and it was all quite good. We especially loved the crispy French fries but there was a LOT of fat on the brisket and that was quite disappointing because the meat was good and we didn't get nearly enough of it. The only thing I greatly disliked about this restaurant was the use of QR codes to order. I hate that we are replacing people (who need paychecks) with technology. Those of us that are older especially despise using QR codes - it causes me a lot of anxiety. I love chatting with wait staff and almost always have questions. And they generally get big tips. But I'm not going to leave a tip if I have to do all the work to order and pay and get my own drinks. Please do away with this ridiculous technology and bring back humans to take orders. read more

I hoped by putting on some sauce things might improve. Nope. The sauces were sub-par. I ordered a side of collards. They were okay. You can't really screw up collards. Long story short... I could have bought a tub of BBQ at Food Lion and been happier. Minced pork sandwich, collards, and a Miller Lite, and a tip and I'm out $25 and underwhelmed. But they do have mints and tampons on a tray in the bathroom. Not sure what's going on there. If the BBQ matched the building/ambiance it'd be some of the best around.
